Oh...I also have a similar question. My guess is that "honeycomb" blocks pattern is sturdier and is used in lower spot because of it. And also harder to make, so used only where the shape matters. But it is far from my area of expertese, just a guess.
It is explained in the video that the hex blocks are installed in a lower stress area because of material and cost savings. At one end of the project it appears that old, natural stone is left in place. I like its appearance bettern than the cast products but the strength is much lower. @@W4iteFlame
These blocks appear to be light expanded clay aggregate (Leca) ... not so durable as concrete. The cost difference is probably marginal compared to the entire project. But I'm not responsible for the design there... and that's a good thing 🙂 . The beauty of the end result is also in the eyes of the beholder.
Haha, In South Africa, the project was designed and planned in the 1950's. Project has been in progress on and off for 5 years, Payments have been made to corrupt govt official shadow companies to pay for the project completely 3 times over. Currently the the most recent construction company disappeared after the first payment and nobody has been on site for one year. Construction intercepted a main road that has been closed for 2 years with traffic diverted along a single mud road. In some aspects we are the leaders of construction projects.

That looks pretty, is functional, and has enough grip that during a mudslide animals and people can climb up and out even if its full of mud and water.

In Germany too. They would work on 10 different projects at once because your boss has to accept every Project. Too many projects and too few workers.
Wow, that's amazing! Here in Brazil would be lik 3-4 years and definetly over budget and they wouldn't finish it.
Here in Africa they would pocket the money and never start the project.

I don't know how I ended up here, but I like it.
間もなく自分の人生は終わると思うが、街を設計する人や工事の予算を出せる人になりたかった。自分の人生に不満があったわけでない。お城の石垣などが綺麗なところもあるがこのような動画を見せてもらって日本が時代にそった部材で綺麗になっていくさまも見てて楽しい。願わくば次に設計する時は川底の壁面に小魚などが入り込めるような隙間を設けてほしいな。
