It doesn’t get much better than this! I played open play today and just focused on one tip - watching the ball through my shot. Oh man!!! I think that actually helped my footwork and it also helped me slow down my backswing. It definitely improved my consistency. This is one of the best videos I have seen, and I’ve watched lots!
I’ve been slow ping that backswing a bit more now and saw that it didn’t take away power. Realizing to get my hip rotation into that serve helped SIGNIFICANTLY!! 🙌🏽
really enjoyed the 5 lessons to better play. Very clear instructions and great drill tips. Easy to understand and follow. I will be using the tips tomorrow...
A great video for those wanting to move from basic skills to the next level. Will be on my "must watch again and again" list. Thanks. Keep up the good work.
Outstanding video. I applied the footwork approach today and played much better than normal. Hips are sore from it but that’s a sign I haven’t been doing this in the past.
Superb, helpful video for an intermediate player like myself who is hoping to improve his game. I can't wait to get out on the court and practice some of these principles. Thanks!
I couldnt agree with you more regarding footwork.I realized this a few months ago and Once I got low I stopped missing shots! not all but I became more consistant. I also find keeping my shoulders and head level and square to the net, I see the ball more accurate .
This was one of your best videos! I must watch again and again. Enjoyed the emphasis on footwork. Soo many players are so focus on hitting the proper stroke, they forget about proper footwork as they approach their shot. Again Thankyou. Your pickleball brother.
Fantastic vid Shea. I have been really focusing on my footwork over the last year and would say it has changed my game. I'm going to incorporate calling the score before I start my serve routine. Best vid yet.
I’ve been playing recreationally for a couple years now and my game is so inconsistent it’s frustrating to play, and as you may guess I’m doing none of these things consciously. I’m gonna start w consistent footwork and go from there. Excited to play my next game. Thanks for the great tips
Just one point of near-confusion: @ 9:49, the PRO TIP is: "STOP calling the score before you serve." HUH? But then, you say that calling the score AS you serve will mess you up - which makes sense. Then, @ 10:15, the SOLUTION is: "[DO] call the score before your serving routine." Sort of a mixed message...but the LATTER advice holds. I call out the score LOUDLY and CLEARLY, BEFORE each serve, and that has never been an issue.
I’m sorry if it wasn’t clear. The advice is to stop calling the score during your serving routine. Instead call the score, then proceed with your normal routine.
This is so well known for tennis players. One thing is missing from the foot work video is that you should always be on your toe when you move. Watch how Carlos Alcaraz or Novak Djokovic move on the tennis court. That's exactly how you should move on the PB court.
The crossover is more difficult and leaves you less well balanced and stable, but it is a faster start for long runs like in tennis at the baseline. Pball is played at the net mostly, and a rapid shuffle allows the quick response critical to pball net play.
@@davidwatkins8016 Interesting. My tennis instructor would often scold me when I did not employ the cross-over at the net for volleys. I felt more comfortable shuffling at the net in tennis. Am new to Pickel ball and I will try watching pro players. But I think you are saying the pro pickelball players will shuffle at net and rarely employ cross-over step for volleys.
@@Better_Call_Raul I’m not sure, but pb volley rallies are so frequent and so close up to the kitchen that fancy footwork may not be the best way to go. Also there is less territory to cover laterally in pball than in tennis so a big crossover step is not required to cover the line.
I come from a tennis background, now mostly pball. Two notable differences are you want to be in a stable defensive position mostly in pickleball. The court is small, you have a partner close by and the shots come quicker at you. Keeping square to your opponent (no crossover unless necessary to reach a wide shot) and keeping a stable footing is key. Tennis involves a lot of sprints in various directions requiring you to be on your toes. Not so much with pickleball.
It’s mostly a matter of recognizing the quality of your shot as you hit it or directly after. If the quality is good, you can move forward, if it’s bad you should move back or stay still. That’s a very oversimplified version of the answer but that’s the gist of it.
So is being short in height an advantage?? I played against girls that were about 5'3" and 5'4" and I noticed their ability compared with players that were a little bit taller, either my height or taller
Kinda sad bc I haven’t found any left handed vids yet, and everyone just assumes that they are talking to a right handed audience (which I get bc most people are right handed) just wish there were vids dedicated to people that are left handed bc I feel like it would help soooo much more and be way easier to understand rather than having to mirror everything.
Im a lefty too...but dont over think it...whatever he is teaching is evenly good for lefty's..pretend that he is left handed..what ever he says to do,just do.. It is mirroring but thats ok..
Telling people to get low is all well and good, but a lot of people simply don't have the muscle and joint structure to do that repeatedly. This includes nearly everyone over 50. I bike about 100 miles/week, have very strong legs, but going into a half squat repeatedly simply hurts. I'm 60+. How about a video for addressing knee problems?
His target audience is probably for people significantly younger. I’m guessing most people who watch his videos are probably age 18-35. Doesn’t hurt to ask though. Also there’s probably tons of videos on UA-cam about how to strengthen your legs. Maybe start there and then come back to this in a few months
There’s a difference between not getting low because you physically can’t and not getting low because of a lack of effort. But you’re in luck because I do have a video on that too! ua-cam.com/video/QhEfsNFvuoo/v-deo.htmlsi=kEMd8XgDrEwdrcWP
Really good but waaaaay to long. Even with your "speed talking".. should have been 2 seperat videos of 8-10 min.. Know your audience. MOST players are going to be 50+ They will struggle with much of what you're saying. Especially, split-steps and the "crossover" at 5:08 .. Also the 3rd shot drop is waaaaay to hard for most "rec" players, save it for intermediate/advanced levels. Getting LOW is GREAT advice!!😊
Sorry I will disagreed with you on locking your wrist to achieve a topspin drive. Locking you wrist will increase wrist injury and pickle ball elbow injury . locking your wrist at the kitchen is a Yes. But in back you will have little power and no control when you are locking your wrist. the more paddle head speed.... the more top spin will naturelly happen. just like you can slap much harder with a relaxed wrist, like throw the your paddle at the ball.
I haven’t seen anyone ever simplify the footwork, contact and serve this well. Incredible. Just watched those three again.

Wow I think I will watch this video over and over again
Superb video covering important topics that many other people don't even mention. Well done. Thank you.
Your instruction is 2nd to none and makes perfect sense ,thanks for breaking down step by step and showing me things that I need to change....
This is 5 videos in 1, thank you for the great tips.
This just completely changed my game. I don't even know how to measure how much this improved my play overall. Thank you!
I’ve been slow ping that backswing a bit more now and saw that it didn’t take away power. Realizing to get my hip rotation into that serve helped SIGNIFICANTLY!! 🙌🏽
Love that it helped you! That’s super cool 🤝

one of the best pickleball vids I've seen, dense/concise - just great info.

Outstanding video. I applied the footwork approach today and played much better than normal. Hips are sore from it but that’s a sign I haven’t been doing this in the past.
He’s absolutely right, I’ve only been playing for 3 months and when I started getting low my game changed dramatically and I’ve gone to 4.0 now

Most players I see are lazy and unprepared. They play the identcal point over and over and over again. The results only vary randomly, regardless...
Ben Johns needs to have his feet watched when he is playing…. Not fair to see this 🤨
What do you mean?
