From playing tennis for a long time before pickleball, these exact drills are mandatory to practice softening a player’s hands. Touch is vital in pickleball and you see a ton of instruction on UA-cam talk about needing soft hands but less really showing how to get soft hands. So big props on that

At first when I saw that topspin pro contraption I was very confused.. but as soon as I saw you swing at it once, I knew I needed something like it... I probably won't buy one... I really like your hand to eye coordination training drills and the Topspin Pro looks like it helps with drilling a topspin stroke. I use that same stroke for a drive, but I do want to point out that at 13:35 in the video you mention using it for a serve. I had to adjust my serve to lower my paddle face so that it's below my wrist when I contact the ball to make it a legal serve. If you slow down your video it looks like your paddle is above your wrist. You might want to check that out.

I follow you video's as a new player, but the grip you demonstrated with the last knuckle of your hand being on the 3rd bevel of the handle for a RH or 7th bevel for the paddle for a LH of the paddle handle is the Eastern Grip. If you want the continenental grip, the last knuckle needs to be on the second bevel from the top to the right for RH (2) and left for a LH (7). If you had a true continental grip, the paddle would tip to the back slightly, with the face of the paddle on a forehand facing up by about 10 to 20 degrees depending on your hand size and finger length and strength.

I am five feet tall and about 100 pounds. Am I too light and too short for pickle ball? Is it a disadvantage playing w taller people? I am just starting 2.0. I also found the paddle heavy 😢 Are ther such a thing as an extra light paddle?
I was taught the same ping pong grip, however you shouldn’t be limited. You just twist your wrist and you have an insane forehand and a very quick and nasty backhand. A friend who taught it to me won back to back state championships for ping pong. I always wondered how it would translate to pickleball, especially at the kitchen. 🤔
Actually rolling over the ball for topspin reduces topspin. The motion of your swing brushing up is faster than the motion of rolling over. So the roll over is slowing down the spin. It also is changing the direction of the ball off the paddle.

7:14 This is not a fair comparison at all. When holding the grip tightly, you kept your arm very stiff and even moved the paddle *upwards* towards the ball before contacting it. When holding the grip softly, you were moving the paddle *downwards* with your arm, following the ball, naturally softening its landing onto the paddle and reducing its bounce. Of course the ball will bounce higher with a tight grip when this is the method used for comparison. Just for fun, I've tried this myself just now, and (surprise!) I was able to reduce the bounce to nothing even while holding the paddle very tightly but adding a short downwards motion when catching the ball (as you did on during the "soft grip" example). Oppositely, I was able to make the ball bounce much higher while holding the grip softly and adding a bit of an upwards motion before contact (as you did in the "tight grip" example). Funny how that works. Now to not get the wrong idea: I understand the reasons why a softer grip can help reduce the bounce. I just think the methods used were poorly demonstrated.
I’m new to this. And struggle with the fact that if I play, or the opponent plays a ball that was over the line it can be called and the point is over. How is it not that once you played it the ball is still live? I guess it just seems contradictory that you played the bad ball and now you get to say it was bad and not have to play out the point..
According to the rules, a person calling the out has until the ball is hit back by the opponent to call the out. In other words they can hit it and then call out but can't wait until it gets back over and the opponent hits it back towards them to call.... my guess is that factors in some "brain processing time" because lots of times it's hard to know if it's going to be in or out until the last second if it's close to the line, so you can't wait until then to realize it's in and initiate a swing so you go ahead and swing but notice it's out as you're mid swing and have time to call it. The "until the opponent hits it" time limit prevents the possibility of being sneaky and calling it after you think they're hitting a winner back haha
One concern…. i have a squash and racketball background and i never never never use a two handed backhand. to me that is a weakness. The only people is see using it are tennis players. Just saying
The catching of the ball doesn’t matter on the grip it’s on you catch the energy of the ball. Like when they throw a baseball int your glove your catching. If you see he starts to drop his paddle slowly to catch the energy nothing to do with grip imo. Good stuff though.

One concern…. i have a squash and racketball background and i never never never use a two handed backhand. to me that is a weakness. The only people is see using it are tennis players. Just saying

The catching of the ball doesn’t matter on the grip it’s on you catch the energy of the ball. Like when they throw a baseball int your glove your catching. If you see he starts to drop his paddle slowly to catch the energy nothing to do with grip imo. Good stuff though.
