I remember being in Toronto 1988 visiting a very dear friend who’s now fighting for his life. He took me to the Bruce Cockburn concert and he got so happy when this song was playing. He sang wildly and happily and he told me all about the singer and his songs. It was a great concert and a great visit to Toronto, being with my dear friend and all. I just had to listen to this song again as I’m worried sick about my friend who is struggling for his life with cancer. This song takes me back to happy memories. Love you G.M.
I remeber listening to this tune when I was just a kid, hanging out with my dad. It brings back such good memories. memories of my grandparents, their house, my dad, and his endless string of broken cars. He would jam this song late in the evening while working on one of many broken things.
This tune is about a real Peggy that lived in Toronto. She was eloquent, beautiful and seemed like a movie star from another time. Rest in peace Peggy.
The first Cockburn song I heard (thank you, Mark Zimmerman) other than the radio play of "Wondering Where the Lions Are" and the moment I became a fan.
In a 1990 interview he said: "It's a true story, honest. And it happened in T.O." - from "Rumours of Glory 1980-1990" (songbook), edited by Arthur McGregor, OFC Publications, Ottawa, 1990. Submitted by Rob Caldwell.
I think this song is about a girl and her family from Sturgis SK and I was an eye witness who cannot recall much at all. As it all happened years ago and involved a pedophile ring, now all dead or moved, and former victims that are too old to talk, and all that, who the fuck cares, except you probably made millions on this fucking song?

@il0vey0u2013
That's strange, because his fan website says he wrote the song about a Peggy in Toronto...
Nobody plays like him. Sounds like a whole band and its just him, and to boot this is a shitty recording .
