    I can’t believe up until a few years ago I thought ‘if a tree falls’ and ‘wonder where the lions are’ were all he had to offer. Was I ever wrong. Bruce is amazing. Such a great underrated Canadian artist

    Instant magic. Bruce and Rik sound so natural and Bruce keeps eyeing Rik's playing and smiling in amazement. Simply magic.

    There's just something amazing about harmonizing together impromptu. For me, it's like one of those all too rare, firing on all cylinders type conversations that I find myself gleefully entranced within from time to time!

    Bruce is so gracious. Just watch him affirm Emmit with his facial expressions. He's a good man, and a heck of a guitar player.

      You're absolutely right. Playing alongside such a great player can be intimidating - especially while playing one of their original songs. I've watched and listened to several interviews of Bruce where he welcomes other players to play with him. I think that's what music should be about.

  • @ayavner
    @ayavner 17 років тому +2

    Hey John... Deer Dancing is from Bruce's "Circles in the Stream" CD, which I wanna say was from 1977.
    Its only a solo piece when Bruce does it, and its a fair bit more intricate than presented here.
    Its one of those "holy grail" songs wherever Bruce fans gather to play...

    varsitycamplife:
    I don't dissagree that he's a gracious and amazing person, but I was watching for this and took it differently. I saw him intently listening to Rik as he was playing to his slide, and then when Rik got to the point realization in his music, (what the searching was looking for) 2:52? they both found it and Bruce smiled with Rik.

    Bruce Cockburn has been a mainstay for a lot of Canadians who like good music. The lyrics speak of social justice and peace. All of his songs reflect that. He is also a libertarian.."I RIDE AND i SHOOT AND i PLAY GUITAR" He is a severely underrated guitarist and my inspiration to learn guitar came from Bruce Cockburn. I may be mistaken but I think Bruce enjoyed shooting IPSC. Or a similar discipline.

    that tune is on an album called Night Vision...one of my faves! there is a horse running towards a train in the dark on the cover...i'll see if i can find it for you

    • @fingling8
      @fingling8 3 роки тому +1

      No, it's only on the live 1977 album Circles in the Stream. Night Vision, with its famous 1954 Alex Coville painting, does have some amazing instrumentals, such as "islands in a black sky," and "lightstorm," however. Super album.

    Danny Gatton, in my humble opinion was the greatest guitarist ever born, Bruce falls in at a close second to Gatton with one major difference. We can still see Bruce perform his magic. As with most things Bruce does, this song is simply brilliant!

  • @ayavner
    @ayavner 17 років тому

    Of course, in Rik's defense.. this is Bruce's song, and not an easy one to play at that, so I think he did rather nicely complimenting it. Still love the version on CD best. It's only on his live Circles in the Stream album, no studio version :( Hey Bruce, next time you do an instrumental album????

  • @EwolDJ
    @EwolDJ 14 років тому

    Yeah, they're sure enjoying themselves, but I still prefer the 'Circles in the Stream' version, it absolutely shimmers with light and life. Amazing that such a ranking guitarist not only is a fine singer but for my money the finest lyricist ever, bar none, and that includes Waits, Mitchell, Dylan, Janis Ian, Roger Waters, Allan Jay Lerner, and a handful of others - I've heard them all so I'm not just throwing away meaningless superlatives. 'Astonishing' is right, Brian l890..
