  • Last week me and my buddy Mat skied a line i've been looking at for awhile right above town here in Canmore. Its an intimidating looking rocky bowl that ends in a 60m cliff before winding down through a couple other cliff bands down to the dog park. We slogged up the Ha ling trail with 70m of climbing rope each, plenty of rope to rappel the 2 cliffs in the line. We dropped into the line while my parents watched from town and filmed us ski!

This line is also known as the Rice bowl and Big Brother bowl

That’s another serious ski mountaineering feat, superb video. Clearly your are both expert mountaineers because when you rested and set up for the first rappel, 1. Were you two simply standing in your ski boots ? Where did you pop out of your skis and hoist them onto your pack and then down climb to that rock face where you set the anchors for your rope into the wall ? Because you could not have had the time to put on crampons, no anchor to the rock face, and the casual way (appears to the viewer) you placed your poles, your bags having them rest between your legs and the wall, no fear they might slip aside and fall! Seemed very casual to me on a mountain face but maybe there are elements that are not visible. Remarkable viewing. And two rappels , not just one, and the first one was very long, and the second one not a brief one either. Also, whoever filmed you guys coming down that face, from a distance, great idea, gives the viewer perspective !

I always look up at this one when I'm driving past Canmore, but the mandatory rap sketches me out. You guys made it look easy! Have you climbed the Northeast Face?

Overhand knot is preferable to double fisherman, much less likely to get stuck when retrieving the rappel, as it pivots when encountering an obstacle. Great descent guys.
