Season Edit 2023/24
What a season! 86 days of skiing (70 touring.) Had to deal with a drier snow year and sketchy avalanche conditions until things turned around in May making for a great spring in the steeps at home in the Rockies. I also spent more time exploring in the Selkirk's, Monashee's and Coast range in the early to mid season. Got lots of good footage but many highlights went unrecorded. Big thanks to all my ski partners and friends for the good times this season!

Skiing The Waterman Couloir on Mt Stanley
Переглядів 2,6 тис.3 місяці тому
May 26th, 24. Headed up to the Stanley glacier on a cloudy overcast day to try to find some couloir skiing. We found powder and flat light in the Waterman couloir. Made for tricky but great quality skiing. Still very wintery up high! Follow Bryan and I on instagram Bryan: brybrythewildguy?hl=en Me: bensoneff?hl=en
Skiing the Commonwealth Couloir

Skied the Commonwealth couloir in Kananaskis (May 23.) 2 years ago Geoff and I tried to ski this line from the bottom up and were turned around at the first big step. This time we went back for redemption and summited Commonwealth peak before dropping into the line from the top. Stoked to have finally skied this classic K country big line! Skiing Ha Ling North Bowl
Переглядів 10 тис.4 місяці тому
Last week me and my buddy Mat skied a line i've been looking at for awhile right above town here in Canmore. Its an intimidating looking rocky bowl that ends in a 60m cliff before winding down through a couple other cliff bands down to the dog park. We slogged up the Ha ling trail with 70m of climbing rope each, plenty of rope to rappel the 2 cliffs in the line. We dropped into the line while m...

Hard Skiing in Grizzly Couloir (Raw Footage)

Fun day out skiing the Rogers pass classic Grizzly couloir. Conditions were ok in the top of the line but degraded as we descended into variable crusty hardpack/ice lower in the line. Quick day out under 5hrs car to car! Follow Roko and I on Instagram: @roko.huser @bensoneff Thumbnail photo credit: @fred_carriere
Avalanche NW couloir (almost)
Переглядів 2,5 тис.7 місяців тому
Recent conditions across BC and AB have been brutal. High freezing levels kept us away from the backcountry and now that things have re frozen skiing is rough. We went out anyways hoping to find good skiing up high in Rogers pass. Our optimism was rewarded and we skied most of the NW couloir on Avalanche peak but bailed 100m short of the top out due to windslab concerns. White out conditions ma...

Skiing the Phantom Couloir

Yesterday (Jan 4, 2024) we went to check out the Phantom couloir in Yoho. We were surprised to find a deep snowpack and some fresh snow. So great to finally ski a bigger line in the Rockies after a slow start to the season and an unstable season last year. Hopefully more to come! STS Couloir Early season
Переглядів 2,1 тис.9 місяців тому
Not many options for skiing in Rogers pass this November. Headed up to STS for my buddy Mat's first turns of the year. Variable snow kept us from opening things up but it was a nice start to skiing bigger lines this season. Hopefully more to come! Follow Mat and I on Instagram: zechelmatthew?hl=en bensoneff?hl=en

This season was a rough one. Alberta and British Columbia had very low snow years causing challenging and deadly avalanche conditions. Big lines where out of the question for the entire year and an early summer caused a harsh and abrupt end to the season. It was a good year to step back and learn and thats what I did. I still managed to get some incredible powder skiing largely while tail guidi...

I know it doesn't mean much - but subbed. This is just some of the most insane content you are delivering. You also look quite young - you are so lucky to be this skilled at this age - well done. I am absurdly jealous of you. Please keep posting. And seriously - keep safe. I do not want to hear you have had an accident. Its great to keep going, but its just so hard to say no, this is not right.

Top of that couloir where you entered and the walk along the ridge line in were crazy dangerous. Those first couple of edge slips before you dropped in. Seriously a very big respect to your for this. Absolutely well done.

That was for realsies. Nice climb up. Gnarly Couloir. You're the kinda guys that need to learn to paraglide. Make these sorts of missions into combo days. Easy exit gliding out.

I don't ski, but I really enjoy climbing couloirs and then taking a trail back down. Pure snow climbing. Is there a trail on this mountain that opens up in spring when the snowpack is safe and hardens up?

wow... just a small request, I'd be real curious to know just how steep that bit was when you popped off your skis and climbed down for a bit... would have loved if you gave us a camera shot to the side and up after that bit.. as someone who watches these videos trying to get a sense of if it's within my ability level I would really like to see more of those angles since it's almost impossible to tell otherwise... I can see that this is insanely steep in a lot of spots, but where I can tell looks doable for me ... I also board so these crazy spots are either slam in a couple turns or don't do, I'm not the the type to buttslide half the snow off the chute
