  • Both the new Canon EOS 90D and the M6 Mark II have a new 32.5-megapixel sensor and a Digic 8 processor. Although, they are very similar at the core, they differ greatly in terms of their form factor and overall feature set. Watch as Dave Paul and Evelyn Drake test these cameras at the Rocky Mountain Show Jumping grounds.

Nice to see The Camera Store introducing these 2 cameras...so much talk and speculation and very little hands on videos....I hope this is only an intro. I would like to see more footage taken with the Canon 90D in 4 K in both cropped and uncropped mode and also see the quality of the 1080p footage and compare it to the 80d. And of course I would love to see some low light video testing some time soon pls. Nice review-nice to see new faces (at least to me) and a personal style- but I would love to see more footage taken with the actual cameras...Thanks for posting! Cheers from Toronto!

Ive bought the 90d. Id like a mirrorless maybe. For the ability to shoot silently. But I dont like the small size, and I dont like the small battery. And the screen that doesnt flip sideways is a dealbreaker for me. And so is the missing headphone socket. (no camera has a headphone JACK, by the way).

I bought the 90D. The form factor is very important to me, may be in future I will need to get used to the idea of having a much smaller body. But, right now, I still much prefer the bigger size of the DSLR, I don't have huge hands, still I found the 90D a little small to hold without the battery grip, so like I always do I also bought the battery grip. It is quite a big battery grip and heavy because it is using the LP-E6N battery, still I found it so much nicer to hold with the battery grip if that makes sense. Other than that, you don't need to use any adapter for the lenses which is a major plus. In terms of practicality, it is hard to use live view, what I do is to pull the camera forward to make the camera strap taught around my neck which then makes it much easier to aim. Will be getting a LCD viewfinder. What I found is focusing is more accurate in live view in general as opposed to using the viewfinder. Either way, is safe to say the 90D will most likely be my last DSLR.

6:53 I had a wild horse ride in Yellowstone when a bison decided to charge after the horse I was on. True story (from 2017). If you go on the Cowboy Cookout in Yellowstone since 2017, you've probably heard this story of the tourist being chased by a large male bison. That was me ;-) I thought I was dead...the stirrups kept getting lower and lower and I thought the horse would eventually throw me off because once the stirrups got too low, the saddle was slamming into my rear end and I couldn't hold on much longer. Whew! That was a ride I won't forget.

She actually said "She's the owner of the CameraStore's daughter." The clause "owner of the CameraStore" is a phrasal noun. Then she ends that noun with a possesive form "CameraStore's." Therefore, the sentence "She's the owner of the CameraStore's daughter" is gramatically correct.

I'm so used using the focus points in a DSLR that although I can easily change the focusing on a mirrorless and it can face track, I still feel more comfortable just putting the focus point in the subject. But probably people that will get used otherwise will find DSLR very clunky and rigid, maybe.

@TheCameraStoreTV - "Full sensor readout" does NOT mean it uses the full width of the sensor (i.e. there is no crop). "Full sensor readout" means all of the pixels (in this case 32mp) on the sensor are being used and downsampled to create the final image (resulting in extremely detailed footage). This is clearly not happening with this camera (though it may *possibly* be happening in the 4K crop mode).

Nice review. It's the lack of m glass that puts me off the m6, otherwise would be a nice b cam to my eos r. An adapter to r glass would be great, but according to other sources it's not physically possible. May be the m50 mark 2 could be the perfect bundle 🤔🤔 I use the rx100vii, but Sony menus and ergonomics, no proper touch screen so limiting imo. Despite its does do great photos and videos as an end result. If the m6 binned the flash for a pop up evf, it would have been 👌👌👌

T is a curious situation. Usually a mirrorless camera is better than a DSLR for video, but in this case the M6 M2 is better for stills, and the 90D is better for video.
The battery and headphone jack makes the 90D first choice unless shooting sports stills, but both cameras get big black marks for no 24fps. It might not be used very often, but whenever doing anything artistic and working in a group, the default is almost always 24fps. Plus it is not just amateurs who buy these cameras. Pros also buy cheaper cameras for various reasons and pros often use 24fps. This is an idiot move on Canon’s part. It is as if Canon makes cameras because people expect it, but they are quite happy to see people continue to migrate to Sony just to get basic things like 24fps.

John Doe why? Even on EF-S users still tend to use the EF lenses on the smaller cameras. Canon sells lots of EF-M adapters and have little reason to hurry too fast with releasing M lenses. That said, if the M6 M2 sells as well as the M50 does, we are sure to see more M lenses eventually. Up until the M50 the whole M line was a low seller. The M50 changed that, and the M6 M2 is equally attractive as a purchasing option. I hope it is a hit for Canon.

Canon claims that the 90D offers face tracking through the optical viewfinder -- their website specifically says "The EOS 90D camera also incorporates Canon’s EOS Intelligent Tracking and Recognition system (EOS iTR AF) that detects and tracks your face - even while looking through the optical viewfinder - automatically switching the AF point to optimize face tracking" -- but your video makes it sound as if that feature does not exist. Does it actually offer that feature, and if so, does the feature work well or is it just a bullshit advertising claim?

    • @TheCameraStoreTV
      @TheCameraStoreTV  4 роки тому +3

That's correct. Canon has new iTR AF technology that uses the metering system in the viewfinder to prioritize a face when it detects one in the frame. However, it does not highlight and track a face as obviously and as accurately as dual pixel AF which uses the pixels on the sensor to detect a person in the scene. We should have specified this. But, in our initial test, the iTR did not behave in a way that was obviously tracking a face. I wouldn't call it BS, as it works. But, it is still not as good as the tracking face and eye detection we see in live view or mirrorless cameras.

There is something really sexy and sweet about the female reviewer. She is wife material!
You both gave us a really good idea of what these cameras are like and what separates them.
These small mirrorless cameras quickly lose their advantage over DSLRs once you put on a zoom lens. So are they worth it? Are EVFs better than optical? You can always glance at the screen. What I don't like is having to press a button to go live view. Why can't they just work it off a proximity sensor?

Nothing about video quality, and crop mode in 90d. Nothing about viewfinder AF performance with new ITR system. Just specs and some obvious things, that we know from first wave reviews in day of release... Sorry, but dislike.

No worries. If you are curious, video quality is great on both. No, we didn't mention the crop mode and focused on talking about the full sensor readout. Some reviewers have said the crop mode is slightly sharper. But, when we exported the footage to view it, the difference was negligible.

So the bottom line is that if you want to take advantage of the SENSOR....you must use GOOD GLASS which = The more expensive glass canon lenses. You know the ones with that ridiculous looking red stripe. So at this point you might as well spend an other 2K and get a full frame camera. This way you will have twice the image quality. You just can't fit 15 pounds of Puppy crap into a 10 pound bag. ANd that is what happens when you shoot with APSC sensors. Regardless of the pixels.

Or you can get an adapter, buy the nicer glass, keep the smaller body, and still get double the image quality. There are people who prefer a smaller body and are willing to work around the trade offs. You can get great pictures with APSC sensors and you have to be a fool to think that it can’t. Photography is subjective, but if you know what you are doing you can get a great shot with ANY camera. The photographer is the most important factor and not the camera. The tool is just a tool

@@joshuareveles Every pro that I know. That had shot a APSC we have all concurred. Junk compared to a full frame sensor. I see it in my D7200. And I have good glass. My Cheapo 610 blows it away and the 810 there is no match. I mean guys that are shooting birds fine. But for shooting landscape and people on a 2/3's it is a dog. Full Frame only.

I don't think any camera system will ever be 100% dead. But, are they still relevant/superior to mirrorless in any way? IMO the only true compelling reason to go with a DSLR over mirrorless is battery life. But, there is a solution for that. (buy some extra batteries)

@@TheCameraStoreTV Sorry for the aggressive comment. I do however think mirrorless is the future. Hell, it's even the present. I have owned a dslr and always found it frustrating having to work with two focusing systems and having to guess what the final image would looking look like. I have since switched to mirrorless and very seldom find myself using more than one battery for professional shoots despite owning two batteries.

@@ApertureApex DSLRs are only dead to those who don't enjoy using them. I have nothing against mirrorless cameras and I have used the likes of the EOS M50, EOS R, Sony a7III, and the Nikon Z 6, but I still love and prefer to shoot with my DSLRs and if I were to buy a new camera, it'd be a DSLR. No need to get triggered because a new DSLR was released. If you don't like it, don't buy it, simple.
