Accra surprised me and made me teary eyed...cause the street and when Mark strolls in the afternoon reminded me of Manila's street atmosphere in the 80's and 90's so calming and a village like amosphere. 😍

      Luke Sal it’s because he’s in Accra. In Accra, Cape Coast , Sekondi Takoradi they eat a lot of fish because they are coastal cities and the people there are traditionally fishermen. If he goes inland towards the forest areas the food will be different

      @DorothyDandridge 5 років тому +11

      As a Jamaican a lot of our cooking culture and techniques originated with our west African ancestors such as: Stew fish, stew chicken, stew peas, escovitch, ackee, plantain, okra, season rice, dumplin.... I did my ancestry DNA and my African ancestry is mostly Ghanaian and Nigerian

    This trip to Ghana and Kenya in Africa has really made me reflect on what at least for me has been a narrow experience. Most geography and social studies for me was in Jr. High School in the first half of the 1970s and the only touch point educationally on Africa. The curricula as I remember it was very North America, Europe, and U.S.S.R. focused. Asia was mostly "we beat Japan in WW-II, and China is a big communist danger!" Africa was "a backward continent that has big predatory animals, Morocco and Egypt." I don't recall even covering anything south of Mexico. Now, this was never satisfying for me, and my whole life I have nurtured any international friend I could make and career-wise I traveled over 2M miles. Everywhere but Africa (it wasn't up to me - my company did little business in Africa, relatively speaking). Certainly my own reading and armchair exploration has been broader, but clearly, there is an enormous amount to see and understand in Africa including the food! This beautiful planet it so big, that no matter where you start, you still miss a whole bunch. The start of a late-life list includes Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Morocco, Tanzania, South Africa, and that's not thinking very hard. Lots to look forward to!

      JacquiMukoowu2012 Thank you Jacqui! I only didn’t mention west Africa because I am so ignorant about the region, I don’t know which areas are best to visit! I’m saying this to show how little many Americans like me know (not to brag about being ignorant on the subject). Perhaps I should as a start add to my summer reading list... All that said, east Africa looks amazing!
