Jay (Mukase Chic) is an amazing woman, so positive and talented, and so much fun to hang out with and eat with! She’s a food personality, a chef, a restauranteur, a blogger - she’s incredible. Check out her Instagram ( / mukasechic ) and UA-cam (www.youtube.co....
Anyway, so Jay took me an ultimate street food tour in Accra, here’s all the amazing food we ate:
Red red (bean stew) and plantain - This was the first stop, a small stall that Jay has been eating at for years. They fry plantain, and then serve the plantain along with beans stewed in palm nut oil, and combine it with gari, which are cassava flakes. The result, is a filling and very satisfying combination of sweet and tangy plantains with salty oily beans. What’s key as Jay explained to me is the palm nut oil, which provides so much oil and fragrance. It was delicious, and a perfect way to begin this Ghanaian street food tour in Accra!
Total price - 4 GHC ($0.90)
Nima Market - Next we caught a taxi to Nima Market, known for its spices. We tried everything we could find, which was quite a lot of snacks here and there. The market was fantastic to walk around, full of action and energy.
Coconut toffee
Tigernuts - 1 GHC ($0.20)
Masa - 1 GHC ($0.20)
Zowey (adaakwa) - 1 GHC ($0.20)
Kulikuli - 1 GHC ($0.20)
Boiled egg - 1 GHC ($0.20)
Fried cheese - 1 GHC ($0.20)
Burkina - 3 GHC ($0.70)
Bofrot - 1 GHC ($0.20)
Peace Chop Bar (Chop Bar - Local Ghanaian restaurant) - Finally, to end this street food tour of Ghana in Accra, we stopped back at the chop bar that we had visited earlier in the morning. Seeing the cooking was sensational, it only made me hungrier for lunch. By the time we arrived back, they had already sold out of a few dishes, but there was still plenty enough to choose from. I tried the banku with goat meat, and it was fantastic.
Total price - 36 GHC ($7.90)
This was an incredible day of eating street food in Accra. Many thanks to Jay!

Mark really knows how to embed himself and let the culture transform him. Using his hands...that's exactly how to do it. He is so humble. He visits villages, instead of high-end pretentious restaurants. He really gets to the authentic nature of how to eat the foods. Very impressive.
it’s beautiful tbh. my dream is to be able to try the street foods of different cultures
honestly for me, if i go to a new country, best way to eat the food at the most national level, eating street food and local places would be the best ways 90% of the time
Tbh it’s not recommended for everyone to do this because street food isn’t almost the most hygienic. Bad case of diahorrea and vomiting or worse can ruin your trip

I spent 5 years in Accra in the 90s.
The food was outstanding.
Nothing like it in the world!
I visited Accra in the 90s myself, and I agree the food was amazing. Kenkey and fish reminded me of a dish we eat in the Caribbean called fish and fungee.
Really good for you and happy you enjoyed the food over there, but you need to come visit my home country Nigeria 🇳🇬 as well and then, tell us what you think.
Lmao... 80% of everything there is found in nigeria
I respect Mark he never said no too any food! Much respect to him & her, she’s awesome 🙏🏻 great job Mark!

I applaud mark for putting a human face to the people of Ghana. to most of us, when we think of going on holiday, Africa is not even a consideration. Mark you've definitely changed my attitude towards that idea. I'm really enjoying this series!
So happy to hear that, that's puts a huge smile on my face. I learned so much on this trip to. Hope you can visit soon!
Bry New York that’s because of the negative portrayal of Africa and other countries that’s not the US in media

I'm black American but seeing all the love come from other African countries like Kenya, Ethiopia and India for Ghana makes me want to cry. It's so sweet.
There's no such thing as black sis. You're African take a DNA test and find out exactly what you are. Black is a American invention. That's why everything here that's negative is black.

How african women seem to balance things on their heads so effordlessly continues to blow my mind

This is what old Indian women's can do
Igorot women here in the Philippines do the same #WomanStrong
As a girl we are expected to run duties as our Mama as early as 4 balancing water pot from the stream and controlling a baby in our backs and to this day I don't trust my baby in a stroller I tie them in a fabric on my back and trust you me I can run with them
I remember a friend telling me that there is a specific posture you have maintain when carring those loads on your head. Otherwise you could injure you neck.

Kwame Nyame the boojie one doesn't even come near how delighted street food is
Mark I've never met anyone even close to how positive you are. You appreciate the small things in life and some people don't learn to do that until they are much older or sometimes not at all. Ive learnt to enjoy and appreciate the small things as well but that's because of the limitations put on me from my bad health. There is always a positive in every situation for example getting through a shower without collapsing or being well enough to visit a friend even though I'm in pain etc etc I take an interest in evrything and I choose to be positive and happy. Your ability to meet people and immediately have a conversation and share a meal or snacks because you are so open to new people and experiences. Im not sure if you know this saying 'you are down to earth' which basically means you are a good guy who treats everyone with respect. Your guide was so lovely and I could tell she was so proud introducing her native food to you. The people that you have interacted with were so nice and welcoming. It was adorable seeing Micah talk with the local children. Adults could learn a lot from watching children. They don't have the prejudices that a lot of us adults have. I've always felt this but I'm not sure if I've ever put it in the comments section so please forgive me if I ever repeat myself. Everytime I watch your videos I feel a strong need to tell you how the video make me feel which brings out my excitement and I want you to know that if I feel this way then thousands of other people do as well. Mark you are a world game changer and you are bringing so many people together both over youtube but also at dinner parties when the topic turns to you and I for one have always been excited to learn about how different cultures live and you have been a great teacher. I feel that Micah will also bring people together because you and Ying are his best role models. Never underestimate how many lives you change just by being you and making everyone come together over a shared love of food. Food is the one thing that can unite many different people. I hope that you are all well and that you are making sure you get plenty of rest because I know how hard you all work. Sorry that I couldn't be a bit more concise to avoid such a long comment. Xx
