For those wondering about the new bunny, I did remove that video, as she displayed symptoms of illness soon after she arrived. She is currently quarantined and being treated with antibiotics for what was likely an illness induced by a combination of immune stress from changing environments AND she had been given a booster dose of BunnyVac just three days prior to pickup (which I was not told before purchasing her). I do not yet know her prognosis.

I hope she’s gonna be okay I’ll be praying for her. That’s what happened to my bun to he was sick and was told that’s normal which wasn’t true. He had sniffles. I let the breeder know so he’s aware of it. But happy and healthy now. So I hope your little girl gets better. Can’t wait to see what you named her

I have absolutely no problem with, and am actually grateful for, ethical and responsible breeders. Without people like you we wouldn't have the wonderful rabbit breeds we have today. Adoption is always my first choice, but sometimes people just want/need a particular breed for whatever reason, and purchasing from a good breeder who knows and cares for their bunnies is always the way to go, rather than buying from a pet shop that may not know/care where the rabbits come from. Responsible breeders also know a TON about caring for rabbits, and are great educators about bunny care - as you so clearly demonstrate :D

When people think of breeding bunnies, they think Wire Cages, 50+ rabbits. No one understands that there are good breeders like you and I. I did a paired breeding recently with a solid black buck, Eden had a daughter I am keeping named Tiana, In honor of Timmy, she’s A broken Black.

If they really wanna hate on something, should go to those that aggressively breed without rest period for the mothers n cramped wire bottom cages with no freeroam time and no hay only cheap pellets.

Tbh I don't understand why you'd get hateful comments about something like this. You're one of the most ethical rabbit breeders I see! All the cages are clean and well-cared for, the rabbits are healthy and clearly in gorgeous condition, they aren't overbred, and the babies are all super cute and obviously loved. Breeding pets when there are an abundance of adoptable animals can be frowned upon, yeah, but there's a vast difference between mass-breeding cats and dogs purely for profit, and ethically breeding critters like rabbits, who have shorter lifespans than cats and dogs and don't tend to flood the shelters the way that cats and dogs do (unfortunately; I love those animals as much as I do with rabbits, but they really shouldn't be bred unless you're looking for a purebred, which is...expensive and often not the best choices, given their health issues)

It depends on what the mom will allow. I held Cora gently on her side on a towel and held the baby to her with my other hand, cupping the baby in case Cora kicked or jolted. Some does are too skittish to make this a feasible option though.

Do you ever have babies that are born outside the nest box that sadly die?

Sometimes, yes, which is why I check frequently when I know they're due and watch the cameras...but if it happens in the middle of the night, sometimes they don't survive. Most mamas do kindle in the nest boxes, but they also can have stillborns or stuck kits on the floor, often I believe because they know the kits aren't viable.

My harlequin rabbit is first time mom expecting. I'm new to this. I made her nest box. Today 3/21/24 she is pulling out fur.. any opinions or suggestions from here will be appreciated.

So I'm getting a bunny that will need alfalfa hay next month and I can't seem to find a place that has a big bag of it. Does anyone know where I can find a large bag of alfalfa hay?

You can find some on Amazon. You can also try petco.com. I buy my hay(American Pet Diner Timothy Gold) and food (Science Selective) for my boys. It is MUCH cheaper to get it via petco.com. If you get repeat delivery (many time order options) they don't charge shipping. The best part is it comes right to your door! Oxbow is a good brand as well, but my boys are super picky! Hope this helps!
