I think he committed suicide. Shows like that Can't run without their main star now can they? Especially if they have nothing to live for now that they know there's no escape.
@@aria5614I doubt that for multiple reasons: 1) this game is psychological horror, where gameplay took a backseat and emphasis was on the writing being an accurate portrayal of how a person would mentally react to this situation in real life. 2) Finding out Julia is alive, they have her captive too and that they won’t let her go (or will kill/cancel her without him) means the last thing he would do is kill himself. He several times put others lives before his own and someone that selfless wouldn’t be able to commit suicide knowing how that could hurt or kill his partner. 3) Julia emphasized how determined a person Matt is, and the producers actions in the game just gave him fuel for that rather than despair. By showing how they manipulated his emotions and that he’d been betrayed by Stacey, rather than responsible for her death - that’s determination fuel part A. By proving to him that Julia is alive and him no longer being uncertain about that would be determination fuel part B. All of that would make someone like him even more driven - not the kind of despair that would make someone give up. So I’m quite certain that Matt caused the disaster leading to the shows cancellation rather than him committing suicide. If he had killed himself they had countless other captives in the show - including Julia who they could have featured/played off of further if he killed himself. It just doesn’t make sense. I think since the psychological aspect of this is so strong, and accurate to reality, that we are supposed to be left with the impression that Matt ultimately did what he said he would do: get the show cancelled and stop them keeping people captive for its purpose. It matches the psychology within the game and the hints dropped throughout.
the fact that all of this everytime just leads to the same ending is like the most terrifying thing in this whole game cuz like no matter what you do, how hard you work, every decision you'll make will not even matter. this game is so unbelivably heartbreaking i would like a continuation (also more endings because a linear story is just interesting for one play and then you know everything that happens in the next playthru so it just gets pretty boring)
Mmmm not every game needs 1000 different endings or a shit ton of reply value. Especially these kinda emotional games you don't really want spoiled or anything, it would take a lot out of the experience if they had multiple endings. Especially if they were planning/expecting to make a sequel from the start, if there were multiple ending there'd just be a lot of things that don't add up or get continued depending on which ending you got. That's always what bothered me the most about the walking dead games for example.
I really love Mark's reaction during the moment where Matt has to choose between who to kill and who to save. Something about it is so genuine. I think it's clearest when he yells "I'm not a slave to you!"
just saw the kickstarter for this game was cancelled. I'm really sad for the whole team but 51,000 is a lot to ask for a game that didn't get a lot of attention from what I've seen. Still sad, hope they open a new one some time.
51000 is very little when it comes to game development budget, it would still mostly be a passion project at that point considering the average hiring costs of visual designers, sound designers, programmers, visual developers, voice actors, writers, etc. For example here in the UK the average salary for a game developer for a year is around 41000£, even taking the lowest margin of 20000£ which is probs around 25000$ thats already half the budget, the problem is this game was not amazing looking even if the writing was pretty good and thus didn't inspire much trust in the development team, it just didn't garner enough attention to reach their goal of 51000 is all, but I wouldn't say it's hoping for too much.
they cant m8. I mean they could, but the devs made a point to follow instructions, and they want you to do a set path, despite the fact the player isn't, the main character, Matt, is scared to disobey so even though you do nothing, you HAVE to do something to portray Matt's fear.
Matt was requiring help, he felt trapped. The show kinda reminds me of the feeling like everybody’s there, but no one helps you, when you’re asking desperately for a hand to grip on. Or even like they’re watching Matt and laughing like depression is no big deal. Julia was his solution, he kind of knew it the whole time, but it was just so hard to get to it. Stacy acted like she was trying to help him, she was a fake friend and in the end, she did not help at all.
It would've been cool if they ended with "And you dear player I hope you enjoyed this. You're no different from us I mean look at you controlling Matt! You've been doing great! Sadly we won't be keeping you because you're in no need to us anymore." or something along those lines
Everyone! You need to rewatch the beginning of the video, with the interview with Harry, AFTER you finished the video!! There are so many things to notice: “Tell us, how that one got away” (did he escape in the end?) “Contacted by the ethics council” (maybe they realised that this dude was being tortured??) “Five seasons before catastrophe stuck” (But the end of the game said there’d be ten???)
For anyone that wants to know if you press the other button, nothing changes its just a different voice line that says hopefully she forgives you, same ending where Stacy is producer and Julia is alive
Makes sense. They wanted to continue the show, and Stacy wouldn't continue the show. They just wanted to motivate Matt more, get him hooked on Revenge.
I thought for sure that the twist at the end was that it was actually gonna be Julie in the chair, bound and gagged, so they trick him into killing her.
How about it turns out that when they were gonna cancel somone they got matt to kill that person with the sledgehammer because he thought it was the producer but it was actually that person. Would be a darker version though
Who kept yelling at him to close the door when he entered a room while trying to escape? The eyeball security thingies cant get in the rooms to get you if you close the door.
You have to wonder: Is Julia really alive? All it showed was a video of someone with their head down. It could have been an imposter, or it could have been an early video they took. I guess if you go by the after-credits scene we have to say that she is, but it seems she's about to get the same thing that Matt did, a fake escape where she finds out he's still alive.
Its probably when they capture her, and make a vid, then, kill her after, that's what the gunshot was probably, killing Julia, but, idk, I'm not the best a theories
true we do hear the end credits scene with julia being called out, but, we dont get any kind of time to go with it, that end scene could have taken place before the game or during the events of the game, and is never explained who the person who was shot was, could have been julia
If devs refine mechanics and then make this game into a series of like 4 games including julias story and future seasons, and them actually breaking free of the system and finding each other in the end of the last one. I will pay good money for that. Amazing story they've got going here.
@@gamejitzu If the game doesn't get a happy ending, then the creators might as well be real life psychopaths who enjoy the endless torturing of others because that's the kind of thing I get from this fucked up game.
This was one of the saddest games I’ve seen that aren’t meant to be inherently sad. Like the feeling of everything you’ve done to save someone and the only person you trusted just being an orchestration is the saddest reality of them all. To learn everything youve worked for didn’t matter in the slightest.
Thief moulded my gameplay even to this day (bars). I always choose the rouge, the thief, the slightly shady, the long range ones who you don't see coming. I LMFAO when that came up hahahahaha. No sht lolz
Are we not gonna talk about the fact that in the beginning they stated the show ended after 5 seasons. The other 5 didn't happen because of "the incident" but we still don't know what that is. What did Matt do afterwards?

The voice acting in this game was simply amazing! Bar none the best voice acting I've ever heard in an indie game and even better than some main stream games as well. The ending line especially gave me chills. SO GOOD!

I love how passionate and dorky Mark can be all at once. He's really thoughtful but also clumsy and I just adore how he played this game. This was a super scary one but playing it together was the best experience.
Pros - Engaging story - Great voice acting - Nice clue finding - Realistic main character - Nice cliffhanger Cons - Horrible visual quality - Incomprehensible voice quality - Framerates are abysmal - Repetitive lines Neutral - Closed world I think this game would've worked better as a book, but what it did do was visually adequate.
either just the same outcome but reversed or the same outcome but with julia confirmed dead in the end. Remember the host made a pause to confirm that she is.... alive. Maybe she woulda been confirmed dead if he chose to cancel Julia. Just guessing though, don't even know if this game actually has complex player decision outcome stuff or not.
I just saw someone who chose to kill Julia. Actually, the ending scene doesn't change one bit, it's the same either way. Stacy is a jerk, Julia is alive, and Matt is dragged back to the room after hearing of the future plans.
This is even scarier to think about from an audience perspective. If you turned on the TV one day and saw a new 'reality' show about a man isolated in a small apartment, even if it became very obvious that he's there against his will and does not want to continue, you'd probably just think that's part of the act. Not a lot of people would become that worried about what's really going on because they'd think it's just part of the mystery. You'd just be watching, thinking, "I mean there's no way that person isn't an actor, right?" without any the wiser that you're watching a man be broken down to his lowest possible state of emotion for your entertainment.
Man when these kinds of endings are done well, I absolutely love them. In a hopeless situation and when you think you finally have some flicker of hope it's just snuffed out at the end, really love that kind of ending when its done well.
I have a theory what if the host, Stacy, and everybody who seems like they were running the TV company were actually STARS and they were being forced to act like the higher ups, if it was all a show then everything else including the people were all fake too. Stacy was never the real producer, the real one is hidden and the host must also be a slave this whole time because think about it no human would ever host in such an evil TV company so it would be easier to just force them to say their lines in a microphone locked away in a small room. And the guards were probably slaves also, you can't tell whats real or not in captive audience, it could all just be layers of lies and deception made by the one *TRUE* CEO of the entire company. but hey thats just a theory. a game theory (see what I did there guys)
I theorize the breeding program is to create new stars that will be more compliant than characters like you, who I assume were abducted. Knowing nothing of the outside world will make the children much easier to control. This host is all kinds of messed up, as is whatever situation you've found yourself in.
Only two? Who are you counting as the other one? Because I can think of at least 2 more. Sully was absolutely a lesbian, despite marrying and having a child. She basically outright said she doesn't like men all that much. Then, there's Heath and the subtle implication that he's actually a she... Not sure if that counts as a lesbian or not.
At the end I was there "screaming" at Matt to use the hammer and kill himself so he doesn't have to go through more of that show. What a great, immersive game.
I couldn't agree more, not that I'm trying to start a argument or anything, I just agree is all. But if she want's to use emoji's she can, it's not like it's hurting anyone.
I'm surprised no one clarified for Markiplier the question he had regarding the leak. He got an achievement for finding the leak because Sandy was the one leaking company information to the public, and that little bug thing was probably the back door she used to funnel information out of their server without the firewall catching her.
Shouldn't have watched this one before going to bed. This concept of being trapped for someone's amusement always makes me feel really angry. I mean, it's just a game and all. But this is so cruel... (Also thank you for the video Mark)
Eripfer Cloverhead Omg, I was just about to watch this video before going to sleep. Thx for the warning!😄 I can engage myself into the video in the day 🙂
I fully agree with what Mark said at the end; the gameplay to this was kinda detrimental to the game itself. I was incredibly captivated and intrigued by the story, and the ending left me feeling chills, but the gameplay was kinda...blah. It was like they had an idea for a fun story, but not real gameplay, so they just put whatever they wanted to try and make it work. But, overall, I really enjoyed that.
There is a sequel to this that is in the making called It will find you, I believe its a continuation of this story just in case you wanted to have a continuation.
The game was honestly great, but it had a sick feeling all around it. *Edit* I realized what the feeling was. It was like being stuck out in space. No one could hear you, you were all alone.
While I really dig this game, its a very fascinating and heart wrenching story that seems to have a lot more to tell in its world; the fact that you can't choose "neither" just really irks me on a game design standpoint. Like, its one thing to present a choice but make it clear that not choosing isn't an option (cue a game over, force a choice, make them think a choice was made) but to just, not have anything, not even a line of dialogue, that's just a really bothersome thing in my opinion. So yeah, story flawless, setting fascinating, characters fun and layered, gameplay needs some polish, and plot flow needs some serious smoothing.
At the end I felt nothing but agony for Matt. I can't imagine going through anything like that and Matt's voice actor holy shit. Whatever he was paid I bet wasn't enough because he did an INCREDIBLE job making everything feel so real. It's like the voice actor actually FELT the emotions and delivered the lines like he's actually in the situation. Kudos to everyone who worked on this game
Milena K yeah every time I heard the host all I could think about was Geoff Ramsey (Grif in Red Vs Blue) and occasionally Bernie Burns (Church from RvB). Amazing VO especially for what they say is a prototype proof of concept project/game.
Honestly I think Stacy is the absolute worst, cuz like the rest of the higher ups are there watching through a screen which does make it less real. But Stacy, Stacy actually TALKED to him first hand, no screen or filter. And yet she still decided to continue the show

I think he committed suicide. Shows like that Can't run without their main star now can they? Especially if they have nothing to live for now that they know there's no escape.
@@aria5614I doubt that for multiple reasons:
1) this game is psychological horror, where gameplay took a backseat and emphasis was on the writing being an accurate portrayal of how a person would mentally react to this situation in real life.
It matches the psychology within the game and the hints dropped throughout.

the fact that all of this everytime just leads to the same ending is like the most terrifying thing in this whole game cuz like no matter what you do, how hard you work, every decision you'll make will not even matter.
this game is so unbelivably heartbreaking i would like a continuation
(also more endings because a linear story is just interesting for one play and then you know everything that happens in the next playthru so it just gets pretty boring)
According to another comment i've seen in the comments section there is a sequel to this game that's called "It Will Find You".
:(
Honestly the most hopeless feeling I've had in a while
"This game is so unbelievably heartbreaking i would like a continuation" most relatable antithesis
This is a really interesting concept, but I must say, I’m also disappointed that the devs didn’t consider the player just refusing to make a decision.
KuraBlue I guess first you’d hear one of their voices then hear gunshots then the other voice then gunshots.
I mean if the player didn't wanna I guess they would kill him and not air it?
Oh so eloquently classy
they cant m8.
Him: Sandy is the girl next door right?!
Me: IT'S STACY DUDE. YOU'RE THINKING OF STACY.
It would've been cool if they ended with "And you dear player I hope you enjoyed this. You're no different from us I mean look at you controlling Matt! You've been doing great! Sadly we won't be keeping you because you're in no need to us anymore." or something along those lines
shitttt
A show within a show within a show.
Damn that would be good
Breaking the fourth wall is always a cool and creepy part of the story
Fuck I’m glad none of you make games because they would be awful.
Everyone! You need to rewatch the beginning of the video, with the interview with Harry, AFTER you finished the video!! There are so many things to notice:
“Tell us, how that one got away” (did he escape in the end?)
“Contacted by the ethics council” (maybe they realised that this dude was being tortured??)
“Five seasons before catastrophe stuck” (But the end of the game said there’d be ten???)
Season 5 was where it ended. He was approved for 5 seasons, and they'd started the same thing with Julia. One of the two escaped.
Sounds like Matt got a voicemail in the intro.
i could be incorrect but i think it was continued on the dark web because the titles screen website has a .onion
And if you're curious what happened we've started up a Kickstarter for more episodes, as well as making a more solid experience :)

For anyone that wants to know if you press the other button, nothing changes its just a different voice line that says hopefully she forgives you, same ending where Stacy is producer and Julia is alive

I thought for sure that the twist at the end was that it was actually gonna be Julie in the chair, bound and gagged, so they trick him into killing her.
That would've been a better twist than what they decided on honestly
Might have been more obvious though, since like I said, that's what I thought was going to happen.
Nah, the point was they wanted Julia Alive to keep motivating Matt. Without Julia, there wouldnt be any reason for Matt to go on for 5 more seasons.
Dang, you're darker than our story writer xD

You have to wonder: Is Julia really alive? All it showed was a video of someone with their head down. It could have been an imposter, or it could have been an early video they took.
I guess if you go by the after-credits scene we have to say that she is, but it seems she's about to get the same thing that Matt did, a fake escape where she finds out he's still alive.
also the video cycles, it just loops the same like 2 poses over and over again, so is it real?
if you paid attention the light live was always flashing. *always.*
i'm alive

So.... What would have happened if he chose to "cancel" Julia...?
Proba just a switch
They just say that Stacy's show will be continued for another season and the ending is still the same.
HmMmMm he will be more depressed
either just the same outcome but reversed or the same outcome but with julia confirmed dead in the end.

I have a theory
what if the host, Stacy, and everybody who seems like
they were running the TV company were actually STARS
and they were being forced to act like the higher ups, if it
was all a show then everything else including the people
were all fake too.
Stacy was never the real producer, the real one is hidden and the host
must also be a slave this whole time because think about it no human
would ever host in such an evil TV company so it would be easier to
just force them to say their lines in a microphone locked away in a
small room.
And the guards were probably slaves also, you can't tell whats real or not
in captive audience, it could all just be layers of lies and deception made
by the one *TRUE* CEO of the entire company.
