Vessel does like using a vocoder and sometimes uses auto tune as an effect and not as a crutch.

I didn’t like this song too much when it came out, but a few weeks later I was listening to it on repeat. It’s a great vibe.

Took me a bit too. Album wise it’s a great break from the intense energy.

It's hard for me to listen to just one of their songs without want to just go start the album from the beginning@@josefgordon7712

This is one of my favorite songs by them purely for the uniqueness and the way they slowly build up to the full production. It's so masterfully done.

That is definitely Vessel, heavily processed, vocalizing to make that “instrument” sound you were talking about. I didn’t immediately love this song tbh. I even sort of hated it, skipping it on every playthrough of an otherwise perfect album. Then I looked up the lyrics.
It’s a great song lyrically, and bops enough to be an ear worm. I no longer skip it on playthroughs. This song is a weird dichotomy of meaningful (somewhat dark) lyrics coupled with one of the most pop forward songs. It just took me a little while to appreciate it for what it is.

The syncopation and layering of all the rhythms in this song make it just as special as the rest of their discography. I respect the hell out of them for what they do.

I haven't had my fill of Sleep Token yet.... after I first heard The Summoning, I scoured all of their albums and EPs..I listened to all of them in a row, and I just felt like it was almost hypnotic, like I was kinda floating around while the music was playing. Totally awesome experience to just listen to all of them, song after song and letting it sink in. Truly an amazing experience
All their songs sound different but still signature Sleep Token
After you finish with the reactions to TMBTE I highly recommend listening to all of their stuff in order. It's almost ethereal 🪽❤ 😅
    ❤ WORSHIP ❤

Hi 👋🏼 I’ve been binge-watching your video reactions to ST and I adore your reactions, but more importantly, how you are able to break down all the sounds and explain them so us nonmusical instrumental background people can understand, it’s awesome!
As for the lyrics, I think Ves is a lyrical genius in his word choices to paint the story he is telling. There are plenty of people on YT that break down the lyrics and analyze them. So don't let others' complaints that you are not doing this get to you, I think your perspective is a unique one and dearly needed and appreciated.
I just hope you can go back and take in the lyrics later for your enjoyment.
In looking forward, I see that there are only a couple more ST from you and you have no other post from approximately 10 months ago. I'm hoping all is well and you can return and continue. Meanwhile, I look forward to binge-watching other videos from you of artists I'm familiar with. Thank you so much!!

Back in early spring this year when the band teased out the first 4 singles every few weeks, this song would be the last single they gave us before releasing the entire album. And they made us WAIT THREE WHOLE MONTHS after the other singles came out. Many of us were confused as heck, and i think a week before someone leaked like a 20 second cryptic video of someone's hands playing the first few verses on the piano without lyrics. I truly understood then the meaning of being blue balled. 💙 this song had to grow on me for a bit but i really do love this one. I even made avatar into one of my DnD characters.

Awesome comment as always! Lol they blue balled you guys! That’s terrible! I’ll have to see if I can learn it now I’m intrigued. DnD is something I’ve never got into, but I should!

I always assumed that was his voice the whole time, but it did occur to me while you were talking about it that it almost sounds like heavily processed humming rather than singing. Not sure if that’s a standard technique or not, but I always “sing” that part with him anyway 🤷‍♀️ Great reaction ❤

If you catch some live videos, you can see II playing the trigger pads for songs like this.
Just like there's a subtle yet obvious (?) effect on the main vocal line, most of the other vocal layers are heavily effected where they get used almost like new instruments. Is it like a distorted talk-box on that one part? (9:20) So wild.

i think the effect on his voice is a vocoder or so ive come across. a cool effect without sounding fake.
this song is to himself, speaking of his reflection.

For me i love all of sleep tokens releases, i feel them. But i just cant with this song, while i know its a "pop" song, they have done so many great pop songs in the past (like descending for example) and i just find this is the only track on tmbte i would think of skipping. The lyrics are beautiful and deep but just isnt for me! And thats okay!!

When I first heard them on Chase Reacts he called them “The Masters of Melody” and tracks like this and Fall For Me really hit that home I think with the minimal (or complete absence) instrumentation.

I love the contrast between the seriousness, the introspection and darkness of the lyrics, and musically one of their most uplifting and pop like songs.

It always amazes me how so much can be going on, yet they make it sound so simple. I think the lyrics were meant to be the focal point for this one. Since they use instrumentation and genres to create emotion, if they used the guitars and did a break down, it would make Vessel sound angry, but this way, he’s getting across the self reflection like he’s talking to himself in the mirror, which could also be why there’s the use of his voice as an instrument.

Vessel defo likes vocoder! I wasn’t a fan at first but I love this song now. And yes it’s his voice in the music. Imagine him singing this to himself in the mirror, then the song makes more sense 🖤

That was a voice, it went through a vocoder by the sound of it.

It took a couple listens for me to really get behind this song but when you focus on it lyrically and how this song factors in the with theme of the rest of the album (as well as older albums also) it really takes shape and you can draw the ability to relate to it. The music is chill but supplements the vibe well.
