I got a leather hone the same size as my other wheels from a firm in Australia. Makes it just that much easier, especially with the newer angle setter.

That sounds like a great setup and I am sure it helps.

I have been looking for one in the U S but everyone is out! Since I saw your first video that crossed my mind that I could finally hone a knife correctly! Thanks for the video! I found some in the U K but last time I ordered out of the country half of Europe was using my card!

Thank you for your content! I love the KS-123, it makes it easy hit the same angel between different sized stones. But important for me, was to find out that my Tormek Diamond stones wasn't the exact same size. When i go from course to fine it's ½ a degree up and the ekstra fine is nearly 1 degree down from fine and nearly ½ a degree lower than course. Until i got the new angelfinder i nearly dropped using the DE stone because I could never raise a bur when using it. Now I understand why. I did like you in this video - shifted without checking, but from DC to DF I created a micro bevel - but DF to DE I just hit the edge between the two bevels and did nothing else than more work. And as you also conclude - it makes me use the SJ stone much more for the "show off" knives.

    Thank you Paul!
    Love the KS-123.
We’re using the Slipakniven CBN wheels, which are designed for water use, 250mm leather & felt wheels on spacers, and FVB system. Slipakniven & Schleifjunkies selling similar items, but the exchange rate/shipping from Slipakniven Sweden is incredibly cost effective to SoCal….even compared to woodturners😎

Yes I am familiar with Schleifjunkies I got my front vertical mount from him. I don't like his website at all but his products are good. I find his site very glitchy and hard to navagate

Thanks for your videos 👍 . Your opinion of a digital angle meter compared to the new angle finder ? I struggle with honing as I can't curl hair consistently . The SJ stone I just got improved my results and also reducing the honing angle to less than I think is the sharpening angle . I have had a Tormek since 2005 and have recently gotten 2 Wens and a grizzly 10" wet grinders . The Wens are excellent, especially since reversible . I just seen a reversible variable speed 10"wet grinder for $175 that comes with several tools including a knife holder . I enjoy not having to change stones .

I bring my CBN wheels wet, and dry them in a toaster when done to keep dust at bay.

I think I'll sell my WE and save for a Tormek. Been watching multiple videos daily for years and you all have convinced me. Realizing they are all good sharpeners with each their own characteristics but I sure like what I'm seeing with the Tormek set up.

Do it! You won't regret it I guarantee. You'll forget the price and be left with a machine that'll keep impressing you for decades.

Paul, another excellent video on technique and making sharpening fun and easy. I'm one of us struggling with honing. I just purchased Tormek MB-102 multi-Base. I have the leather and synthetic honing wheels and just am not making progress. I actually switched back to the leather wheel because the synthetic was a struggle. I'll be looking forward to guided honing in the near future 🤓

so Paul, you started with the 360 grit if I’m not mistaken and then went up to the 1200 grit. I noticed she didn’t bother with the 600 in term grit. Would’ve made a difference if you did the middle ground of the 600 grit diamond by Tormek?
Thank you so much again Paul very educational. l enjoyed yr drive to your new house. I’m sure you eager my friend to get things all set up looking forward to see that set up my friend in the future.

If it is hard steal it's faster to make it shiny, if you are using all the grits.
DC leaves a scratched surface which will take a lot of work and time to remove on DE.

I've considered building a leather wheel the same size as the WW CBN wheels to alleviate this issue, haven't put the theory to test yet though.

Tormek has a jig for practically for everything. LOL. For the hobby sharpener looking to move up to side hustle, what would be a good progression of powered sharpeners to use? I currently have a Hapstone M2 and a KME axe sharpener. I'm in Canada, so cost is a factor as the exchange rate between the Canadian and US dollar is quite low at the moment. For any powered sharpener I get, I don't want to out grow it too quickly only have to spend more money on a faster/larger sharpener. Perhaps this a topic for a dedicated video.

I think a Tormek is a must own in a well rounded sharpening shop and its Top quality tool for a lifetime of sharpening. I also believe a good 1x30 is never a bad start. See my list pf what I use here my fav 1x30 is there the Toolcker www.alexandriaknifesharpening.com/sharpening

You can buy 10 inch leather honing wheels for Tormek from Germany and save yourself all this trouble. I take them on and off, so I don’t contaminate the fine grit on the leather. Something to look into.

Really I did not know that I mostly hone on my grinder with a leather flap wheel
