I remember having these when I was a kid. I remember getting them when I was at Toys R Us and it was the Smithsonian kit. Since I'm starting to get into fish tanking, I want to get these again
I suspect "Tetra Min" fish food would work well. Many channels show that triops love carrots. I've also, when out of "Tetra Min", bought dried fish or cuttle fish and chewed it and put it in the tank.
When I gradually changed the bottled water out for treated dechlorinated tap water a week after hatching the eggs thinking they all should be big and healthy enough to handle the change just fine, the next day all my triops died. So, I'm never doing that again.
What a fantastic set up you have there. I'm hoping on my second attempt that I get some triops. All I got was million little white things that I can only see with my telescope. They look like a really cool pets! I breed lizards very well but I'm in a new territory with water pets but fingers crossed my 2nd attempt will work.. Thanks for sharing
My instructions in the kit i got say to feed them 24 hours after hatching...But I've been feeding spirulina powder and they always die. Do you feed live baby brine at first and then switch to algae powder?
Can they tolerate the agitation of the water filter in the large tank? Are the surviving tap water? I had one grow to 2 inches, but suddenly died (1 month old)😟
These are super cool! I wanna know what kit you got, i saw that you got yours on amazon, but could you tell me the specific kit? Those are really cool and grow fast! Im planning on getting some and i would be more then happy to know the kit! Anyways amazing triops!
the first things I could see swimming was the shrimp, the triops took a day or 2 longer to pick out. maybe on a darker background you could see them earlier.
Cute little buggers. It is difficult to believe these frail little guys survived the K-T extinction event. They survived an impact with the force of 10,000 nuclear weapons with the yield of the czar bomba. A trillion tons of dirt and ash hurdled into the atmosphere creating a suffocating blanket of dust the sun was powerless to penetrate for a thousand years. Yet, these little fellows survived that. Humans could never survive that. I happened before. It will happen again. It's just a question of when. Will these resilient planet-mates survive the next extinction event? Humanity will not be around to know.
you can see the little egg sacks on the side of her, if you look really close you can see the dots inside of it. I read they like to bury them in the sand.
you have you use a very low TDS water. natural spring water is the best! your tap water will have way to many minerals and such in it. they have to think it is a fresh puddle that will not dry up right away before they will hatch.
the longest I have heard is 2 months, they are hard to raise and I didn't get to attempt breeding yet! only got the one. migh try again some other time
Graeme Lastname as long as they also do the Demineralization of the water before it goes in the bottle like the label saz they can poor it from the tap all they want.

They will eat Everything. when they are little, protein is the fastest way to grow. moving things like their smaller siblings and brine shrimp are great at triggering a feeding response
Aw...Good ol My Triops.com (I recognize that food bag!). Not really 'processed' food (most of it is brewers yeast, spirulina, and other powdered goodies. (I actually enjoy allowing them to all grow up--fairy shrimp, daphnia and clam shrimp that are the most added to many triop bags sold by retailers. You have quite enough algae to keep em happy, try shavings of the middle of baby carrots (oh, edit to say that is TOO big, plus TAP WATER AND PRIMER!?? Gah. Rainwater, Evian Mineral..never chemicals!), Spirulina infusions, cauliflower..you must remember that triops develop largest and much stronger in desert mud puddles, letting chaos rule, and rainwater make what they eat. Not how 'good' they look. BTW? I know the 12 yr olds are loving the 'Blue Nuit Special' vibe, but afterall...It's science. Oh yeah, it is also pronounced TRY-ops.
@@DowntheWormHole I was wondering if they are more a danger to each other or better of around more passive fish. Looks like only living in a puddle for very brief time in nature makes them not care if eating each other or food flakes
probably one of the best examples of how evolution is a fairytale. These creatures were already given the ability to survive in a long stasis hibernation period.

I remember Toys-R-Us had super sea monkeys. Could that have been what you are mentioning? I could not find the triops in the Toys-R-Us website.
Isn't nature amazing? Every day I see cool stuff like that and I'm reminded of it.
it is! I just love all the things you can find and even experience in your own home!
Yep
I want to grow some of these, I love them! Thank you for showing how they grew over time.
so glad you like them! be all ready first, they went thew 2 tanks in a week. thanks for watching!
They did grow very fast@@DowntheWormHole

I love the lil black fish sticking close to you as you set up the tank x3
They are cool, I love the final setup for them
thank you so much Aqua!

Can you make a video of how to take care of Triops? I am thinking about getting one.
I bought a kit yesterday and do you have any tips to be able to see them as babies?
How amazing to learn about these cool little creatures. Thanks for sharing them with us, Dea.
Love and channel support.
👍💕👍
they are very neat! glad you liked them!
Awesome! this helped me a ton. Can't wait to hatch my own! You just got a new subscriber because you are awesome!
Think I just found my new covid project
that is great! best of luck!
Can I raise them without a heater?

Can you use devil ivy in a tank with triops in the tank
Black diamond blasting sand is what I use
They were saying that tap water was a no go, but I was figuring that was because of chlorine, and they're doing alright with well water
When it had been 24 hours since you had put the eggs in the tank how long did it take you to be able to see the triops swimming around
the first things I could see swimming was the shrimp, the triops took a day or 2 longer to pick out. maybe on a darker background you could see them earlier.
Could you put triops in aquarium with freshwater?
Can i use aquarium water from my community tank to hatch them?
I just got mine yesterday, and I'm waiting for them to grow :)
Wait, what kit did you get? I'm planning on getting some.
Thanks for watching! it was on amazon.
@@DowntheWormHole does the Smithsonian one work?
Derpy Flareon I would check the individual ratings on products. I have only ever tried the one package.

Wow these are really amazing. Loved seeing them😀
thanks for checking them out! so much fun!
Hello do you like traps to I have one but I don't know if it's close to lay eggs
you can see the little egg sacks on the side of her, if you look really close you can see the dots inside of it. I read they like to bury them in the sand.
Wait, why do these got bigger tank than the betta in the background?
Is that carrots they are eating? Are they omnivores?
yes! you got it, keep food available as they really seem to like to eat each other the most
@@DowntheWormHole oh my, they are cannibals!
I hate hatching out brine shrimp it's one of the most tedious things I have to do in the fish room
lol, I cant believe I failed that hard core lol, not one!
thanks, did they lay eggs? :D
she had eggs but she also ate the male! I know to feed more and use normal sand for next time. thanks for asking!
Can I use tap water that has sat 24 hours to hatch triops??

Oki
Crushed lava rock.
Could you use rainwater? :)
I have heard of some people trying that for sure. that is what they use in the wild. if you do let me know how it works :)
AWWWW THEY TURNED OUT SO CUTE!!!!!
thanks lisa!
OH GOD THAT WATER IS CLEAR

Sand only they can’t dig in gravel

Until you said that was a piece of carrot, I thought it was a strawberry
They are super duper active..
they are! very hard to get a good picture! lol
So cool!! Fingers crossed for some breeding :)
Thanks Cassie! wish I had gotten the normal sand!
😮 they do grow fast .
yep! have to be ready for them. 2 tanks in a week!

I came home to see one of my triops dead and my only other one chomping on its dead corpse :|
they are defiantly carnivores! I was hoping to get a few more, I am sure they ate eachother if I Was not on top of the food.
Don’t clean their sheds! They need it.
