    Do your tiops breed and if they do do you just keep the water? Im trying to figure out why they HAVE to have a dry period just to hatch.

    • @TriassicParkTriops
      @TriassicParkTriops  Рік тому +24

      They are vernal pool inhabitants in nature. It really lies in their nature aswell:
      Triops hatch in pools filled with rainwater, during spring there are sometimes rain storms that cause large puddles to occur. The eggs sense the fresh rainwater and start to hatch as the pool water starts to warm up during a warmer spring day.
      Several weeks / months later the colony has already naturally died or the pool slowly starts to dry out killing the last inhabitants of the tiny bit of water left.
      While they were in these puddles they released tons of eggs, just after two weeks of age. They will do so, on a daily basis and continue to do so till the very end sometimes.
      For this reason, they dont live in lakes or rivers, its a whole different type of " water inhabitant" if you look at it hahahah.
      I hope that sheds some light on the case 🙏

    We had some triops a few years ago. It was our first time and our tank wasn't perfect but one triops lived for a long time, we named him Jerry. He was excellent and his very favourite thing was to be fed pellets with a pipette - my husband used to literally give the pellet to Jerry, and Jerry would get SO excited and then grab onto the pellet and gently sink, upside-down, to the floor. • @TriassicParkTriops
      @TriassicParkTriops  6 місяців тому

      Heyhey,
      Yes we have to dry the eggs prior to Hatching. This is due to the lifestyle of Triops in the wild. Its Aquatic, but season based as they live in temporary rainpools. So basically yes, the full group dies out every year. But when the hole they lived in, fills up with rainwater again, they will hatch and continue the process again.
      This is how they survived for over 200 million years 🙏
