- Flying solo for the first time was a wonderful experience and everything went as planned. But my third solo came with some challenges and I was happy that I was able to keep cool and handle what was being given to me. No GoPro for my second solo which included a Go Around. I felt it was an unstable approach, but that flight I will just commit to memory.
I wanted to practice steep turns, but my G1000 for some reason wasn't cooperating. I need more practice with the G1000, but as the saying goes, fly the airplane.
My videos document my journey to achieving my private pilot's license, a personal achievement goal.

Great job flying the airplane and not panicking when the controller put you in the hold in busy airspace.
Thanks. No choice but to keep your cool. When you are first learning to fly, you may not understand why you are doing all the maneuvers until one day when you need them you have the ah ha moment.
“Whew! That was a rodeo!” Love it!!😅
Awesome! I’m not sure how you understood that guy, sounded like he was half asleep -not very clear-but you got every word! Great to see! Thanks for sharing
Great experience! As most controllers, he knows that a student flying solo is more capable than they believe them self. 🙂
I'm a new pilot in North Florida... These video's, especially the captions / commentary, are SO helpful! Thank you!
Aviate navigate and communicate. all done pretty well for anyone. It was so good to see you maintain your lookout and freda checks :-)
What memories that brought back of my third or 4th solo. Whew!!! Great job!!
Good job keeping calm and under control, well done!
“This will be a full stop.” Lol. I know exactly how that feels.
Just over 15 hours in and I’ve had a similar experience.
Hey just found your channel, enjoying to watch. Few days ago I did my solo, in my way to cross country. Nice video with all ATC and soft music. Fly safe
Well done!
Great job verbalizing your actions/thoughts👍
Awesome skills!!
Excellent radio work for 3rd solo, even for certified pilot. Everyone forgets to flip the stand-by into active, so no worries about that. Busy and tight airspace around there, reminds me of here in Southern California.
Thank you. Radios were not a problem most the time for me but I think we all get tongue twisted sometimes.
Excellent flying
Amazing job. I loved how focused u were. Keep up the good work!
Thanks. It’s such a joy to fly. 😊
Schön gemacht 👍
During my student pilot days whenever I talked to controllers I would indicate I am student pilot. I always felt they are giving extra attention.
We don’t say that here in South Florida. Not sure why. Only on the first solo. Maybe because in the area I fly everyone would be saying student pilot. 😊
Great work, always wanted to get my PPL. Watched your video from beginning to end!
Do it!
You are handling it well Laurie. I think you are much more competent than you think you are.
Sweet that you are flying the DA instead of old Cessnas, my dream some day.
Good job
Great job, Laurie! Brings back fond memories. My first time around the pattern on my first solo, tower extends my downwind and forgot me. I was 4 miles away and asked if I was cleared into the R-airspace ahead of me “Oh God! Turn base NOW!” Second time around was normal, then on the third she had me do a 360 on downwind. Good times!
4 miles away! I have learned to ask questions to ATC. Sounds like you are in a busy airspace too. Cheers!
It was Manassas, VA before the SFRA. Was very busy back in those days.
I fly by a military installation, so I always worry when they extend the downwind. It’s getting easier though with time.
Nice!
Thanks for sharing ;)
My local airport is never that busy (PTI) although Air Force I dose touch and goes here all the time. I did see a pair of F-15s fly out one day, full afterburners!! Just gave you your 100th Like.
Thanks for the 100th like! We do have a busy airspace but not F-15s. Would love to see that.
Very nice job holding altitude on the "hold".
The great thing is that even though you didn't get to practice all the maneuvers you would like, you had a great learning experience. Good job. That was a good controller. Looked like you floated a little on the full stop landing. Not hard to do in a DA40.
Oh they float but you learn to float with them and just be patient. 😊
Good job. I'm flying solo as soon as I get my medical. In an uncontrolled not so busy airport 😁
Good luck. It’s a big accomplishment! I do like towered airports but the only caveat is that they are usually very busy.
Good job flying and radio work.
Thank you Larry 😊
@@LarjoskiFlyingAway You are very welcome. Also watched tonight your 3 touch and Go's with and without your instructor. Excellent job! I am also a private pilot. In addition for 50 years have produced films and video. Please see our new channel 3 Minute Flicks on UA-cam. Subscribe if you wish and share if you care to. 10 titles up. Many to come. PS. Great looking family. My best!!
I have over 750 hours on a DA40. And I would have landed with a bit of a sweat going if I were you that day! Well done!
Thanks. Looking forward to a lot of hours in my DA40.
Hello! May i ask you some questions regarding the DA40 checks? Just started my flying course
@@melvinlim7295 sure
these videos are great! im a few lessons behind you!
Oh you will probably be overtaking me soon. :) Thanks for watching.
Nice video! You look really comfortable in the plane and didn't seem at all nervous that it was your 3rd solo. I fly out of KHWO which is not too far from Pompano, it's in Pembroke Pines
I have more hours than I needed. I think that helps. I am familiar with KHWO but never flew into there. Thanks for watching!
"I think I've had it" I could empathize with this entirely.
I had an experience like this at KORL many years ago on my 3rd solo.
I´m proud of you and i liked the ????????. I was thinking the same, another 360 or not??
So funny how we use landfills, sewer dumps, water treatment plant as VFR points.
Great job. I just started at your school :)
I may have seen you yesterday at the hangar party?
At 7:20 this pilot makes an announcement of being on "Upwind" of her touch-and-go when she is really on the "Departure Leg". This is a common mistake made by many new pilots (and some instructors!). "Upwind" is that section of a standard traffic pattern that is on the OPPOSITE side of the runway from Downwind. Misusing the term "Upwind" could be problematic since some aircraft enter the pattern from Upwind. Just an FYI.
I think you did very well. And you learned how to handle some distractions. Distractions ALWAYS happen when flying an airplane. Expect the unexpected.
In aviation, something happens that will distract you, the pilot. And a lot of accidents happen because the pilot forgets to fly the plane correctly.
Fly the airplane (which you did). Airspeed and G-forces are the only two things an airplane knows. When you have those two things you can do a million 360s and just chill and not worry.
You earned another part of your wings on this flight.
Great job-it takes a lot to hop into an eggbeater and fly around.
Thanks for the positive remarks. 😊 Eggbeater. Never heard that before but it sure is funny and I will definitely steal that term from you!
Imagine that. Something that doesn't work....Is the red button on the joystick for the machine guns?!
It was just on an incorrect configuration from the last flight. This is where you learn to check everything before flight. Didn't need it to fly. Red buttons disengage the autopilot.
How did you come about flying the DA40? Seems somewhat exotic vs. typical trainers such as a Cessna 152, 172, etc. Thanks!
I flew one year in a PA 28 and my instructor had an offer to fly corporate so my lessons stopped. I had a friend with a flight school that uses DA40s for training. Once I started in the Diamond, I loved it.
That was a good video. I'm wondering, why would you turn on fuel pump and flush tanks? Did I hear it correctly?🤔
The electric fuel pump is turned on during the critical phases of flight. Thanks for watching.
I like to count any of my bounces as multiple touch and gos.
diamond star DA40,, MojoGrip favorite plane..
Yes! I subscribed to him years ago and he inspired me with his flight training and experience. ☺️
third solo or third in this plane? you did a great job not getting flustered.
Third solo. I had about 20 hours in that DA40. It was not a huge situation, but scenario that was not practiced and not a typical flight path. One of the reasons I did not mind having more hours clocked before I soloed.
@@LarjoskiFlyingAway You did Great. Instrument scan is important and all but keeping your eyes open and out and your head on a swivel (all the time but especially in busy airspace) is so important: Very impressed. With regards and best wishes in your flying and career.
@@LarjoskiFlyingAway regarding it being "not a huge situation": even more important to remember your basics. dynamics of flight in the pattern especially can be daunting for young pilots but they can also lead to complacency in more mature pilots. Once more and I hope i don't sound like a broken record, but you did great. keep on flying and learn from Every flight you do. :D
10:45 LOLLLL
Neat little aircraft from the interior view. Nose gear or tail dragger? High or low wing?
Have fun and stay safe!
Low wing tricycle gear. Thanks for flying along.
It’s a nose dragger! 😂
Is that KPMP? I fly out of there and just took off runway 6 from spot 5 a few hours ago for my final stage! I'm working on my Instrument rating and I instantly recognized the controllers voice and the shoreline. Keep up the good work and one day let's meet up and fly! I'm at my flight school a lot.
Hi Jonathan, yes KPMP. I was listening to Live ATC this week and probably heard you ☺️ I listen frequently. Keeps me fresh when not flying. Runway 6 all week. Good experience to change from the usual 10 runway. Good luck on your stage check.
@@LarjoskiFlyingAway At night Runway 6 isn't lit so it's 15 or 24 almost all the time, they need to add some lights 😜
What are the reds and whites you call on approach? I'm new to aviation and trying to learn some basics
PAPI or VASI. You can find a lot of informative videos on UA-cam about these.
:))
Did you miss the runway?
What prop filter are you using? Thanks for the videos.
Todd Torres using Nflightcam filter. Would like to have some different prospectives from the cockpit, but right now my focus is to fly the airplane. Maybe in the future I’ll a have wing cam . Glad you are enjoying the videos!
geez, is every yt aviation channel based in florida?
I knew on the approach you would be left of center line.
1:37 dont have a comfort zone :))
Maybe we should never have a comfort zone. That’s complacency ☺️
Is the controller mumbling or is the audio?
All controllers have a different tone. I can understand him, could be the audio.
:)),,, use lights
I'd have put her down and corrected Range, but nice flying. Watch those early flares.
The range knob was not working, that’s why I did decide to come back in. But, I flew for 1 year without a G1000 and there are the backup instruments so good to be able to conform to the different situations that come up. Thanks for watching.
Huh. The DA-40 I flew had a female voice. I wonder if they are different from the year of production.
That's interesting. Not sure about that myself.
Great job! Maybe its my norwegian english - but I would never be able to fly in the US if all your controllers spoke so mumbeling - is he at all mooving his lips? lol
You have to be able to really listen to all different types of dialects.
Can Pilot.
The Diamonds are floaters.
This controller needs to work on diction
This airport sucks
Well done!
