My wife and I love this game! I watched the "How to play" video a couple of weeks ago and told my wife about it. Then we bumped into it in a gamestore and immediately bought it. It's so addicting, even though I seem to loose a lot.
Hope you like my suggestion Pep: 1. Take the red marble in the middle of the 4th row to cause an explosion taking 2 blue and 3 yellow 2. Use the Abyssal potion to take the black, yellow and red marbles from the inner rows (2nd, 3rd &4th), and ask the professor to take 1 last red marble from anywhere but the bottom 3. That would complete both potions, a tree of a kind (4pts) of Abyssal and leave you with 2 blue and 1 yellow in the flask to easy complete another Abyssal (6pts) also helping you to complete a set of 5 unique in the next turn. Note: also that would make an arrange of 1 marble of every color in the bottom to hopefully take in the next turn with the Abyssal just completed.
If you have a potion to remove one, remove the blue marble all the way to the right 2nd row up. Then, for your turn remove the red marble in the middle of the same row. That will cause explosion for blue, then yellow, then red. Whole row clear!
That'll leave you with 3 blue, 1 red, and 1 yellow. I'm not sure it matters though...isn't the game over after that since you'll have 3 Abyssal Drafts? If you do get more turns, try to keep marbles Rodney doesn't need to make his love-potion worse. Maybe one of each? Your potions give you a set of Abyssal Drafts, and also a set of five different potions. Nice!
You mean the Abyssal Draft. Although that means you have to drink the potion as soon as you make it in order to get enough marbles to complete your last potion, it might be better since you don't have to take -2 points, and if I understand correctly you won't get another turn anyway, since the set finishes the game. If that's right, you should also discard all of your marbles and not put them in your flask so that Rodney doesn't have access to them by drinking his love potion, assuming he gets a final turn.
Pip's collecting a set doesn't complete the game. He just collects a skill token. Until all the skill tokens in the countdown stack have been collected, the game continues.
You guys are so fun! Great episode!! It's been a little while since I've seen Watch It Played and somehow it's gotten even better! (And it was top notch before). Even more smooth and professional!
That's a rule you wouldn't want to implement with rowdy kids. I can see them trying to push or drag each other away from the table to get there first. (Also, the big kids would have a big advantage, what with their longer legs.)
Pep could take a -2 point piece to grab the yellow marble on the top row two second from the bottom. Then he could take the middle black marble from that same row. This would allow him to finish one of his potions, complete a set of 5, and then be ready to fill some of the black spaces on a new potion the next round (picking up the one on the left would be perfect!). He would also be making progress on the second potion as well.
If you take a -2 pts to pick the top blue of second to last row you can then take all the marbles (take the middle red one, which trigger the blues, which triggers the yellow, which triggers the red) so you will end up with 3 of each(blue, yellow, red). With the ones in your reserve you will be able to complete the potion on the left. Then if you really want you can drink you remaining bottle to pick a black and complete the second potion.
Fourth row, take out the blue near the top for -2 points, then grab the red in the middle. You'll end up with 3 blue, 3 yellow and 3 red. Then you'll have the 5 red you need and the 4 yellow you need, leaving 3 blue in your flask.
It was such a delight to watch your video! ^-^ I love the chemistry between you too! And the sound effects was beyond hillarious!! Another thing I loved about this video: the camera angle: despite really enjoying you guys, I really liked the focus on the game- this made it easier to follow the content and you really explained it in an utmost easy way! Hope you have recovered from the diarrhea the potions gave you! Haha
Well, he should start by drinking his Abyssal draft to claim a red, a yellow, and a black from the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd rows. Having 2 reds and 1 yellow in his flask, he's now able to complete his Sands of Time potion. His Sands of Time potion can imitate an Abyssal draft, a potion of Magnetical Attraction, or a potion of Wisdom, but we can wait on that. Moving the two reds over to his remaining potion possible to craft this turn, he now has an empty flask, and a potion that requires 2 more reds and 2 more yellows. He should grab the red between the 2 blues in 4th row, yielding himself 1 more red, 2 blues, and 3 yellows, which means he has a flask with 1 yellow and 2 blues in it. Mimicking the potion of wisdom, he can drink the Sands of Time he got this turn to take a red from the group of 3 reds in the 3rd row. Not reasonable to give Rodney a clear row of 3 reds to take from, and this is just enough to complete his second potion this turn to keep up with the speed that Rodney has been creating potions. Having 2 blues and 1 yellow in his flasks already, Pep should either take the fourth or the fifth potion as a replacement, and then take the first potion, so that he'll have a greater amount of potion types he'll be able to mimick in future turns if he can get more Sands of Time potions.
And, yes, Pep should also collect his skill token for completing a full set of Abyssal Drafts. He cannot collect two skill tokens, because he only brewed 3 different types besides his Drafts. If he can somehow pull off creating both potions in the next turn after this, he will also create a set of 5 different potions, leaving him one Sands of Time potion to complete sets with.
This is why I wish Snape wasn't the Potions teacher in HP, because I think it's potentially the most interesting, fun subject for a wizard school. A lot of that gets lost when Rowling has to use those Potions chapters primarily as a way of characterising Snape as a jerk, and to give the protagonist a hard time. Anyway I'm going off on a weird one here - good vid guys! I have to demonstrate this at UKGE this weekend, so this was extremely helpful :)
Love this game, got so excited I filled up to 5 potions in my turn (I was drinking a lot) ..I didn't listen to the professor when he said I can't complete more than 2 potions per turn, oops, my bad. the instructions were a blur at first. Love the video, really helpful. thanks
I think there's no way we can help Pep. He drank too much ! :D Anyway, loved the gameplay - funny and helpful at the same time! Waiting for the next episode! :D
even though taking the 2nd blue one in 4th row would guarantee him 3 yellow marbles, I would rather go with taking the last yellow one... who knows what comes after that last red marble that with barely see, maybe even a blue one followed by yellow :)
Ah, that explains it. I took a break from... pretty much all of youtube for a long while. I missed pretty much everything for over a years worth of time.
Hey Tylon, I might have been able to (not clear to me by going to that time stamp if I had prismatic joy - been a little while since I recorded this), but two possibilities exist here: 1) I had it, but decided not to use it, and wanted to hold onto it for when it could be put to better use. 2) I forgot I had it :)
The theme seems flimsy... a school where compete at potion making with the availability of the ingredients being random yet limitless... I think the game is cute though.
My wife and I love this game! I watched the "How to play" video a couple of weeks ago and told my wife about it. Then we bumped into it in a gamestore and immediately bought it. It's so addicting, even though I seem to loose a lot.
Glad to hear you're having fun playing together :)
best moment: the far sounding cry after successfully locating the rogue marble! you guys are the best
Thankfully they include extras in the game, in case you have a Pep in your game group.
Hope you like my suggestion Pep:
1. Take the red marble in the middle of the 4th row to cause an explosion taking 2 blue and 3 yellow
2. Use the Abyssal potion to take the black, yellow and red marbles from the inner rows (2nd, 3rd &4th), and ask the professor to take 1 last red marble from anywhere but the bottom
Agree with one change. Instead of asking the professor, use the potion completed in step 2 (Blind Love) to steal the red marble out of Rodney's flask.
Wow, almost my suggestion exactly! Thanks for saving me the typing.
If you have a potion to remove one, remove the blue marble all the way to the right 2nd row up. Then, for your turn remove the red marble in the middle of the same row. That will cause explosion for blue, then yellow, then red. Whole row clear!
You'll need to take -2 points to do it. Then you can use Abyssal Draft to get the black marble you need to finish both potions.

Oh cool! I was wondering about that, thanks for the clarification David.
7:35 That was the most sarcastic drinking sound I've ever heard.
As fun as it is to watch Luke beat Rodney badly, watching these two goofballs never gets old
I suppose we should keep it up then :)
unlike using the word goofball
Agreed. It’s great fun.
You guys are so fun! Great episode!! It's been a little while since I've seen Watch It Played and somehow it's gotten even better! (And it was top notch before). Even more smooth and professional!
Thanks Belle - very nice of you to say - and great to have you back :)
this is so much fun! especially when pep drank the sand potion.haha!
if you are playing with kids, I got an idea for who is first player.
Whoever got to the table first get to go first. They got to class early.
Part of me enjoys creative first player methods in games, but the other part of me just wants to roll a die.
That's a rule you wouldn't want to implement with rowdy kids. I can see them trying to push or drag each other away from the table to get there first.
(Also, the big kids would have a big advantage, what with their longer legs.)
So glad I got to pick this game up at GenCon and see you on panel!
AWESOME WORK as always! Thank you- your videos have definitely helped us understand games better :-D! Keep it up Rodney and Pep!
Thanks John - great to hear they're helpful!
extremely well filmed, top notch gameplay and explanation of rules. Do i have any choices but subscribing?
Glad to have you here :)
Pep could take a -2 point piece to grab the yellow marble on the top row two second from the bottom. Then he could take the middle black marble from that same row. Ha ha you guys are hillarious! So fun to watch :) Thanks for making it.
Glad you enjoyed it Jason!
When you drink so many potions mid exam it's always a good idea to keep your flask empty
Good thinking ;)
Take the red ingredient, 4th row, 5th up. It'll trigger blue & yellow explosions & both Pep's potions need red & yellow.
Fourth row, take out the blue near the top for -2 points, then grab the red in the middle. You'll end up with 3 blue, 3 yellow and 3 red. Then you'll have the 5 red you need and the 4 yellow you need, leaving 3 blue in your flask.
Such a great video. Thanks, guys.

Thanks for having fun along with us Kirrie - glad you enjoyed :)
Pep has clearly lost his marbles in this playthrough.
Agreed!

Have a great time demoing!
Thank you! :D
Don't know exactly how... but I'm tempted to morph this game with Pandemic. Awesome run-through, as always!
Glad you're enjoying it Ryan :)
Thanks! And I think I see what you mean, like the viruses you pull out chain off each other?
Yeah! That would be eeeeevil and I already love it.
Love this game, got so excited I filled up to 5 potions in my turn (I was drinking a lot) ..I didn't listen to the professor when he said I can't complete more than 2 potions per turn, oops, my bad. the instructions were a blur at first. Love the video, really helpful. thanks
Ha! Glad you enjoyed the video :)
I think there's no way we can help Pep.
He drank too much ! :D
Anyway, loved the gameplay - funny and helpful at the same time!
Waiting for the next episode! :D
Glad you enjoyed - I'll try to keep him from drinking so much next time!
He's at a critical point. You COULD keep him from drinking so much, or you could let him drink more. Everything in moderation, even excess.
James Orr
I'd go with your idea. Let Pep drink, and see what happens :D
What was that Pep this is a game for children?? I am no child and I so want this game :-) Really entertaining play through, made me smile.
Pep more meant that it 'could' be played by children, but it's certainly for all ages, to be sure :)
This looks like a fun game!
I think Pep needs to take -2 points for each marble he tosses off the table. ;) Looking for any way to help you, Rodney!
I always liked you Striker!
Another great video, thanks guys!
Thanks for the kind words Jasmine!
Looks like a fun game. I guess it's not being released on Amazon until 9/2 so at the moment you can only pre-order it & it is $50.
Yes, it should be releasing soon. I know they had a soft release at Gen Con.
even though taking the 2nd blue one in 4th row would guarantee him 3 yellow marbles, I would rather go with taking the last yellow one... who knows what comes after that last red marble that with barely see, maybe even a blue one followed by yellow :)
I have an odd question. How do you guys shuffle the potions? It's a pain!!! :P
I mix them around on the table :)
I think the next move is to mix some real alcoholic drinks and chug them whenever you drink a potion in game!
We'd never finish the episode!
*****
Maybe, but my gods would it be fun to watch as the game goes on :P
Pep...first it was the dice that went flying off the table....now marbles, what are we going to do????
There's nothing that can be done.
Lololol
We might need some kind of... marble tray.
im excited for Game Play 2! :)
Out now!
Great video. I was having fun right along with you two. :)
Just what we hope for :) Thanks for joining in!
Glad you got the funding to keep Pep busy! :)
Me too!
Great run through. I'm in!
Glad to have your join us :)
A MUST BUY!
Glad you're enjoying :)
This looks like a great family game - with no minis from CMON - go figure! :)
I thin this is partly why they are going by the shortened CMON now - they're doing a lot more than just minis now :)
Once again a amazing review 💖
Thanks John :)
How is ghe quality of the marbles?
I've had no complaints.
I think this is a game I have to add to my collection.
Glad you enjoyed checking it out :)
Poor Spencer. Kept getting dissed.
Very funny game play lol
Who is the other guy with you Rodney?
That is my friend Pep, he's be on the series pretty regular for the past year.
Ah, that explains it. I took a break from... pretty much all of youtube for a long while. I missed pretty much everything for over a years worth of time.
Welcome back!
next turn: Spread Anarchy.
12:15 you could of finished the other due to prismatic joy
Hey Tylon, I might have been able to (not clear to me by going to that time stamp if I had prismatic joy - been a little while since I recorded this), but two possibilities exist here:
1) I had it, but decided not to use it, and wanted to hold onto it for when it could be put to better use.
2) I forgot I had it :)
Poor Spencer, always getting dissed
Aww, we love Spencer :)
I have never seen anyone use the -2 token.
I'm never sure if it's a good idea, though I do it reluctantly to setup a good turn.
The teacher must be very nice because you can ask for help IN A FINAL EXAM
Not bad, right? :)
Is really sad that this game is so freaking hard to find now :/
Might be between printings right now, but this is one of their popular titles, so it should be back in stock soon!
Dad jokes overload :)
It's my specialty!
Lol never heard of it
The theme seems flimsy... a school where compete at potion making with the availability of the ingredients being random yet limitless... I think the game is cute though.
Glad you enjoyed checking out the videos, even if you found the theme a little weak :)
0:43 Like no one ever was? =P
To mix them is my real test
To brew them is my cause
I will travel across the lab
Searching for some wine!
Is anyone here because of BoardGameArena?
