This is a really good review & comparison! I started my HD journey in 1989 on a 1340 Shovelhead, going onto 2006 1450 Wideglide, then an Electroglide & a 2017 Dyna Fat Bob 1690! Now at 75 I want something lighter! Along the way I’ve also had two 1200 Sportster’s which feel top heavy. The Big Twins HD are better on stability but too heavy!! I test rode the Street 750 in Daytona during Bike Week 2015 & yes the gears are iffy with neutral hard to find, other than that I’d say this is a handy, lighter bike, for a Senior to ride or someone who just wants to buy it & ride it! Don’t alter the pipes etc. Just ride it. I think the quirks will become easier as one gets to learn the bike! I like the cheapness of these now!

People knock these bikes hard but I have the 500 and I beat the hell out my bike. Doubt anyone rides their 500 like I do and I've zero issues. 12600 miles and no major issues.just had to replace the thermostat housing and cam chain tensioner. It gets ridden ever day as it's my only vehicle and I do it in 100 degree heat all the way down to the teens..

@@C4vts180 I have a 750 as a second bike. not only is it a very plush beginner bike, it is my forever bike. all the comfort and power and style you would want out of a more expensive bike. I cannot recommend it enough. if you can get into the xg750 or 500 world, then definetly do. only other rec is that the extra money for a 750 over a 500 is well worth it

There's nothing out there that can out Sportster a Sportster. The Sportster is a bulletproof bike with a 5000 RPM powerband. Those EVO engines will be running long after we're all dead and gone. Been riding my Sportster since 98. It starts every time, and runs like a top. Probably the simplest and most reliable bikes ever made. The 5spd transmission is fine, you just change the sprocket if you want more top end. The bike makes more than enough power to drive any gearing you want. You can't really go wrong with a Sporty. Dirt, Highway, City... just a solid and versatile machine.

I def think it's better than an 883, I test rode one at B-Wine HD with Dan & loved the bike. The one I rode was light, loved to be ridden in high or low rpm's, was fast & handled well, only issue for me was my 34 inch inseam, was very cramped, went with an 05 Superglide & love it. I know the 750 is not popular but I think it's an awesome bike!

    • @TheMotoJawn
      @TheMotoJawn  3 роки тому

Yeah I think the 750 engine with 6 speeds is definitely better than the 883.

I’m 6’1 and got on ok on the 750 riding position. The 750 is more of a town bike, & the older 883 is a cruiser hampered by a tiny tank! On my 883’s with a 1.2 gallon tanks you do have to stop whenever you find a filling-station! I bought a spare can of petrol to carry just for peace of mind!
The 750 is great value in the Used market but will never be a real HD in many long-term HD owners’ eyes. Forget heritage & buy it to have fun on.

Love my 2015 XG750. Screamin eagle intake and exhaust with tune changed the bike alot. Had an 883 pull up beside me and ol boy tried to laugh at my "fake harley".... until all he saw was my taillight. Ive owned alot of bikes ive regretted but the 750 isnt one of them. It does have its flaws, especially in the powdercoating and some rust issues ive found on the headlight trim and rear fender, but not a deal breaker for someone like me that tends to like the projects.

At first glance, the Street 500 and 750 with their liquid-cooled Revolution X motors looked like the solution to Harley lacking a city bike that wouldn't melt down in stop and go traffic. I learned early on to shut my engine off when in traffic on hot days.
The bikes never got beyond the perception that they were designed for the Indian (country) market because they were. Reviewers pilloried the build quality and overall "feel". Harley tried to race the bikes to replace the XR750 but from what I've read they weren't very successful. The new Revolution Max improves on these two machines.
It's too bad that they failed.

We had a street 2016 street 750, 2018 iron 1200 and a 2014 streetglide 103ci. And through 1-2nd gears the street was faster than the iron 1200. The sporty was better to cruise on despite being a 5speed. I love that little 750 for some reason. It has 12” mini apes, drag pipes and a set of Viking bags and a trunk.
I’m searching for a better seat and still need to do forward controls but the street isn’t a bad bike by any means.

Some more information on the 1200...I can't say if yours has this, but my 2005 has Buell XB heads and cams. When the bike had about 10,000 miles on it I had it dynoed at a local bike night. It made 57 rear wheel horses.

I actually think the bike with an exhaust sounds pretty good the street 750 that is. It handles good, what I remember riding one, motor was smooth and not bad. The thing I hated it, being 6 foot 1 was the riding triangle, position was horrible, I ended up sitting more on the back of the seat instead of down in the seat. Couldnt get over that for buying one.

The problem with the 500 and the 750 was the resell value. At least with an 883 or 1200 you can get a majority of your investment back. When it comes to first bike and leaping to the next, I think the Sportster is the way to go. Nicely done video though on the highlights and lowlights of it.

In technical aspects the 750 is better than the Sportster, you have not mentioned that the Street 750 has the Revolution engine which takes the cylinders to 60 degrees, which translates into less work and better life for the crankshaft and a better delivery of power versus the 45 degrees of the 883. If the only argument is that you prefer the Sportster because "it's cooler"... meh

The problem that the street had was it unlike the sportster it wasn’t the only choice if you wanted a bike like that . It was pitched against the Japanese bikes like the ER6 ,MT 07 ,SV650 and honda’s rebel all of which are better motorcycles and was aimed at riders who didn’t care about the Harley Davidson badge . The bike is just “OK” not class leading or different enough to stand out there wasn’t a reason to buy it. The engine though was fine and I hope that it is used in another bike maybe a base level “revolution sportster” ( I can’t wait for the howls of protest if they do).

Street 750 is NOT a Harley, in any way, shape, or form. A "Harley" must have a Knucklehead, Panhead, Shovelhead, EVO, or Twin Cam engine. Nothing else is a Harley. I started out on a Bultaco Lobito 100 dirt bike at age 8. My first street bike, at age 16, was a 1972 Suzuki GT380 2 stroke triple. My first new street bike was a 1980 Suzuki GS450L, which is where I fell in love with cruisers. Got my first Harley, a 1989 FXRS Low Rider in 2003. Been hooked on them ever since.
