Emily Blunt, who I like, doesn’t seem to smile a lot like Julie Andrews. I would miss that part of her character. But we’ve only seem clips, so we’ll see.
first things first Emily Blunt will NEVER BE as good as Julie Andrews. secondly they should have asked Anne Hathaway. She worked closely with Julie back when The Princess Diaries was being filmed so I think she would have made a better choice.
Garber had unknowingly contracted hepatitis while in India in 1976. By the time his father was able to get him home to London several months later, the disease had affected his pancreas. Garber's brother Fergus, who was 13 at the time of Matthew's death, denied any suggestion that Matthew was using drugs and said the hepatitis likely came from eating bad meat. On 13 June 1977, Garber died at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead, London, of haemorrhagic necrotising pancreatitis, aged 21.
Julie Andrews reason for saying "no" for having a cameo is really a class act. I must agree with her too I think Emily Blunt is perfect for the role of Mary Poppins. Yes, Julie Andrews is Mary Poppins and always will be. But for what they are trying to do, it's a perfect casting choice.
Julie Andrews is always a class act. I love her, even if I have to regularly take it down an octave to sing along with her. :P But she seems like a really nice lady off screen as well as on.
I am a an older woman. Mary Poppins was released the year I was born. Do NOT mess with my Mary Poppins. Unfortunately, it looks like it will be wonderful.
Your last comment is contradictory.. {I've capitalized the imoortant words that don't go together..) UNFORTUNATELY, it looks like it will be WONDERFUL?"
Never ages, has a bag that's bigger on the inside, lives on a cloud, wears a bowtie and a crazy scarf, speaks to animals, yep, that's a timelord alright ;D
I haven't watched the original Mary Poppins but I'm still watching it specially my favorite Alexan- I mean Lin -Manuel Miranda is going to be there. Edit: I really want to see him rap.
While it is good to know Dick Van Dyke is returning, I wouldn't hope too much for cameos from other original cast members, because David Tomlinson, Hermione Baddeley, Reta Shaw, Matthew Garber, Ed Wynn, and Reginald Owen have all passed away, while Glynis Johns and Karen Dotrice have retired. We'll have to wait and see in a few months.
I just saw the stage show for the first time, at an excellent local community theater. (Don't underestimate community theaters; the ones in my South Jersey area put on shows that I'd put up against professional ones any day.)
*giggle* This past Christmas, I took my friend Alan to see the light show at the Macy's in Philadelphia (a Christmas tradition for decades, since it was still Wanamaker's). This newer version is narrated by Julie Andrews. When she introduced the show with "I'm Julie Andrews," Alan said she should record a new voice-over track adding, "and I'm Mary Poppins, y'all!"
That you haven't actually seen this iconic film suggests you are not a real person and are either are a bot, or lived your life on a deserted island. :)
Wow, fans from the original film wanting the new film to be a lot like the old one ! Who would ever imagine that ? Well, good luck Mary Poppins fans ( I am also a fan of M.P. ) but, if Disney has proven anything, its that they don’t care what the fans want !
L.Argo30 Argo Me too. I mean I don't personally expect it to be as great as the original. Just something simple enjoyable. My motto is never expect perfection
I believe that I am THE number one Mary Poppins fan (of the Disney film) It came out when I was just age 2. My mother tells me I used to pray for Mary Poppins and Dick Van Dyke every night, and that was the way I said it too.....because I also used to love watching the Dick Van Dyke show as a kid, so he was not just Bert. To this day, Mary Poppins remains my number 1 favorite film of all time. I am skeptical but hopeful for this one. One thing I want to see in the new film is the sweetness and innocence of the original. Few films have ever been innocent without the sap. In other words, most "family films" have way more than a spoonful of sugar. They add several cups, making the film nauseating to watch. Mary Poppins was definitely practically perfect in that way; sweet, but not sappy. I hope this one is not dark, in an effort to be more "realistic". That would be as sad as having to come down from a tea party on the ceiling.
Julie Andrews was chosen by Walt Disney himself and was practically perfect in every way : a totally new actress who had never made a film and made Poppins her signature performance. She was young, fresh, beautiful, gracious, authoritative, charming and had a 4-octave crystal clear voice. Andrews won the Oscar, Golden Globe, Grammy and Bafta for that iconic performance. The songs are amazing : each one is supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Emily Blunt has huge shoes to fill in, at the age of 36 it is quite a challenge.
Mary Poppins is a good witch. Probably pure-blood. She was likely sorted into either Ravenclaw or Gryffindor. Phoebe Figalilly, now there's a different situation. Muggle-born. Huffelpuff FoSho. AND then you have Fran Fine. God help us all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My guess is they're both dead because it's revealed in the plot that Michael Banks is now raising his children in the same home he grew up in. Plus, David Tomlinson, who played Mr. Banks, died in 2000, and Glynis Johns, who played Mrs. Banks, is now in her mid-90s and has been retired for a long time.
Oh my god I really Really love this movie feed the birds still causes a lump in my throat ( I dunno why 😅) I really hope the sequel does it justice can't wait to see it 😄
That was actually Walt Disney's favorite song. And it really just speaks to showing kindness to those who are more vulnerable than yourself, and how one small act can make all the difference. It speaks to the soul, much in the way of an old hymn.
Julian Birch yeah definitely I heard that to well they say on saving mr.banks & I really liked that movie to Tom Hanks was perfect casting in my opinion
It's not a remake--it's a sequel. I'm okay with it because if anyone can pull this off, it's Emily Blunt, who has Dame Julie's full blessing. And from what I understand, it's doing the same thing the first movie did--incorporating characters and incidents from the books into an original storyline.
She actually does kind of look like a young Julia Andrews. I love the original but I think she would do good in the role, she's been great in plenty of other films.
Manuel Orozco they're worth picking up at some point if you're inclined but Mary in the book is different than Mary in the film. I think part of it is we can't help but love Julie Andrews and that softens Mary.
December this year will be crazy of full of blockbusters movies: Bumblebee The Movie, Aquaman, Spider-Man: Into the Verse, Battle Angel: Atilta and Holmes and Watson will be released on 21 December 2018. They must have a bloody hard on, considering that there is no Star Wars movie, coming out on that day.
November/December are going to be top-heavy with movies I want to see. This, Bohemian Rhapsody, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, Mary Queen of Scots, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Wreck-It Ralph 2, Creed 2...
Did you hear something? Because while Bob's no longer with us, his brother Richard is (and has a consulting hand in this year's Pooh-related "Christopher Robin".)
When everyone is talking about how good Emily Blunt is here and most of the Marvel fans are expecting Michael Rooker and Hamilton fans are fangirling over Linnamon
The original MP is one of my favorite Disney movies ever! This sequel may not be able to beat the first film's magic but I do hope Disney doesn't completely disappoint. You also forgot to mention Marc Shaiman & Scott Wittman who did Hairspray are composing the music!
Im probably going to get a lot of weird looks for tuis but if they do a rooftop dance we need a closeup of mary poppins tapping her pink shoes or whatever color they be
Manuel Orozco Julie Andrews, Dick Van Dyke, Glynis Johns, and Karen Dotrice. These cast members played Mary Poppins, Bert, Mrs. Winifred Banks, and Jane Banks.
I'm actually really scared to watch this, i know its not a remake but a sequel but still nothing can top the old Mary Poppins. Its my dear childhood and Julie Andrews & Dick Van Dyke are the most awesome actors 😍💜 Still, Emily Blunt ist quite tallented, Though she'd never top Julie ... 😅 Soeey Emily
INSTEAD of remaking it, why not do a SEQUEL? THE DAUGHter of mary poppins, the mudder in law of mary poppins, mary poppins's third hubby, and so on. just make a aforatune of it all.
I'd love to see them incorporate characters from the musical ex. Mrs.Corry and Mrs.Andrews also seeing as they are bringing back the bankers maybe Northbrook and Vonhussler
Great. P. L. Travers will be revolving in her tomb. The best Mary Poppins for anyone who’s actually read and loved the books is Rachel Griffiths, whom you can actually see in Saving Mr Banks.
"fans have been waiting a long time for this follow up" ... euhm, no.? The 1964 Mary Poppins was practically perfect in every way. Do you need to repaint the Mona Lisa? no
In 20 years, I guess Bert died in poverty not making enough to survive from all the part-time jobs. Or, he passed on because of illness from chimney soot or excessive chalk dust jumping into pictures. Hence, his character did not survive to the movie. Perhaps Uncle Bert after having a lovely time with Bert decided to pack it in after his manic depression came back and no one visited him any longer. Mary, without a single grey hair, is as immaculate and as Dorian Gray-like as ever. Perhaps, she found a new friend Jack to replace Bert. It makes one wonder how many male friends this nanny has made over the decades between assignments. As a sequel and with the children grown up on, it is going to be very interesting to see if there will be animation and/or memorable musical jingles in the Depression era. The early trailer looks spooky like Dementors are ready to swoop down from the sullen sky to suck the happiness from London. And with the backdrop of the Depression, the banks and companies have gone bankrupt. Soup kitchens, unemployment, it should make for an interesting film.
I LOVE EMILY BLUNT AND LIN MANUEL MIRANDA
Completely agree and I can't wait to see the movie
I only watching it for Lin Manuel Miranda and a little bit of Emily blunt
Emily Blunt, who I like, doesn’t seem to smile a lot like Julie Andrews. I would miss that part of her character. But we’ve only seem clips, so we’ll see.
It’s not going to be as good as the old one
Like if you agree
Sharky Marky yt True But might still be enjoyable
first things first Emily Blunt will NEVER BE as good as Julie Andrews. secondly they should have asked Anne Hathaway. She worked closely with Julie back when The Princess Diaries was being filmed so I think she would have made a better choice.
RIP Matthew Garber (25 March 1956 - 13 June 1977).
Kevin Lashley
MY. LITTLE. CINNABON MUFFIN!!!
If he were alive he would have made a cameo even though he wouldn't have been an actor by now if he were alive.
Wait, Lin Manuel Miranda is in this? Now I'm even MORE excited for this movie!!!!
What do you want to see in Mary Poppins?
Well...I just want to see LIN-MANUEL MIRANDA’S face!
Casting can make or break a film. I've seen this time and time again, when perfect casting seals the deal.
Since the making of Mary Poppins, Julie lost her singing voice by a botched operation to remove a polyp on her vocal cords. What a shame.
"I'M MARY POPPINS, Y'ALL!" XD
When i see Lin-Manuel Mirandain a movie i watch it
And its the #1 Reason i wanna see it😁
i do want to see live action/2-D Animation come back
Lmao when your reflection sings better than you, you might be drunk.
Emily Blunt and Lin Manuel Miranda😍😍
I am a an older woman. Mary Poppins was released the year I was born. Do NOT mess with my Mary Poppins. Unfortunately, it looks like it will be wonderful.
What if they made Mary Poppins black you know there gonna throw a few spades in there
Thats OK, even if it is terrible you can still throw the covers over your head and fart.
Your last comment is contradictory.. {I've capitalized the imoortant words that don't go together..) UNFORTUNATELY, it looks like it will be WONDERFUL?"
So they won't be addressing whether or not Mary Poppins is a Time Lord, then?
Never ages, has a bag that's bigger on the inside, lives on a cloud, wears a bowtie and a crazy scarf, speaks to animals, yep, that's a timelord alright ;D
As a timelord does not deal well with an aging companion, Bert was released and Jack was added.
She most certainly is
I hope I fall in love again, as I did with the original.
Well looking at your profile picture I don’t think you’ll be sad *cough* lin *cough* .
Same
Please, include the original Sherman Brothers’ songs. It’s not “Mary Poppins” without their Oscar-winning musical magic.
Michael Kurland yes!!
I can't wait to see this!
I can't wait to see Lin Manuel Miranda in it and Emily Blunt it's gonna be so good!!!!( Hopes)
Elizabeth A I’m also excited for Dick Van Dyke as Mr Dawnes Jr Colin Firth Angela Lansbury as the Balloon Lady And Meryl Streep as Mary’s cousin Topsy
#1 We want Yondu making an appeareance
margareth michelina agreed.
I haven't watched the original Mary Poppins but I'm still watching it specially my favorite Alexan- I mean Lin -Manuel Miranda is going to be there.
Edit: I really want to see him rap.
genelyn vistar You should see the original. It's beautiful fun filled classic entertainment
After turning down Black Widow, Emily Blunt has another chance at playing an iconic character. (One that non-bronies can talk about.)
Emily Blunt only turned down the role of Black Widow because she couldn't get out of filming Gulliver's Travels.
Alex Meyer Never knew that until now
LiN-MaNuEl MiRaNdA 😍😍😍
Seren Ashburner LIN LIN LIN
I'm Mary Poppins y'all!!!
Lin Manuel Miranda!
So after this, we should expect the next 5 movies in the series?
Dominik Kadlec Time will tell and I’ll be a teeny bit surprised
Mary Poppins doesn't age she regenerates everyone knows she a timelord.
My opening night of Mary Poppins is tonight, so this video was perfectly timed! Thanks for your hard work! ❤
What Country are you in
?
Good luck! :)
I'm sure you meant "Break a leg."
I just saw the stage show for the first time, at an excellent local community theater. (Don't underestimate community theaters; the ones in my South Jersey area put on shows that I'd put up against professional ones any day.)
We want Michael Rooker to appear!
steven alvarez who's that?
I don't think he's going to.
David Ray He's Mary Poppins, y'all !
I just want Lin to get a whole song because his voice is that of an Angels
Emma SAME
Emma Most likely
Ale-I mean Lin-Manuel Miranda is going to be awesome.
YES
i’m pretty sure he’s bert so fear no more
I want to see the “Posts Everyone” saga continue lol
That reminds me - I should really watch the original movie first.
Sam Gibbons Say what? It's a classic
That you haven't actually seen this iconic film suggests you are not a real person and are either are a bot, or lived your life on a deserted island. :)
2:41 you do not cut off before the nod
Emily Blunt is a lovely lovely actress.
yes she is :-)
She can sing quite well, too in case you haven’t seen INTO THE WOODS.
How ironic your username is
Envious Green" hahahaha
She's also funny as hell - I didn't plan to love "The Five-Year Engagement" but I did! It's a very charming movie.
I always liked her even in that dismal into the woods.
Wow, fans from the original film wanting the new film to be a lot like the old one ! Who would ever imagine that ? Well, good luck Mary Poppins fans ( I am also a fan of M.P. ) but, if Disney has proven anything, its that they don’t care what the fans want !
L.Argo30 Argo Or do they
Manuel Orozco I sure hope so my friend. I can’t wait to see this one.
L.Argo30 Argo Me too. I mean I don't personally expect it to be as great as the original. Just something simple enjoyable. My motto is never expect perfection

We saw the film on opening day. It was enjoyable...it still has the sweetness that you speak of and a couple of the songs are memorable.
I can't wait to see this one Mary poppins is one of the best movies ever
Thank you a lot for like my comment I can't wait to see this one
It's been one of my favorites for over 30 years. "Mary Poppins" is a delightful experience.
Julie Andrews was chosen by Walt Disney himself and was practically perfect in every way : a totally new actress who had never made a film and made Poppins her signature performance. We need the movie to settle once and for all: is she a ghost, angel, or a good witch?
Mary Poppins is a good witch. Probably pure-blood. She was likely sorted into either Ravenclaw or Gryffindor. Phoebe Figalilly, now there's a different situation. Muggle-born. Huffelpuff FoSho. AND then you have Fran Fine. God help us all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Witch
*#1: Lin Manuel Miranda*
I love the mary poppins film and im so hiped for the new one!!!
I’m mostly excited about Lin, but also Mary Poppins was probably the first movie I ever saw... but.... LIN LIN LIN OMG LIN
I'm really surprised that the PL Travers estate allowed for sequel to be made
ellenkingsley After seeing Saving Mr Banks I do see what you mean.
ellenkingsley I'm guessing they think this one will be truer to the books and have less of Walt's influence
Travers wanted to work on a sequel to the film but in the 1980s Jeffrey Katzenberg took over at Disney and unfortunately he shelved the project.
Am I the only one who hopes there's a chance that Mr and Mrs banks come back?
My guess is they're both dead because it's revealed in the plot that Michael Banks is now raising his children in the same home he grew up in. Plus, David Tomlinson, who played Mr. Banks, died in 2000, and Glynis Johns, who played Mrs. Banks, is now in her mid-90s and has been retired for a long time.
Maybe the actress who played Jane will make a cameo but changing her role to Mrs Banks. Doubt it but she could.
According to IMDB, Karen Dotrice isn't appearing in the movie.
Oh well. It makes sense not to upstage Emily Mortimer
Ikr me 2
Oh my god I really Really love this movie feed the birds still causes a lump in my throat ( I dunno why 😅) I really hope the sequel does it justice can't wait to see it 😄
That was actually Walt Disney's favorite song.
I don't want a remake. I grew up with Julie Andrews as Mary Poppins & no one can touch her.
This isn't a remake. It's a sequel.
Alex Meyer thank you for that i here people saying it’s a remake over and over
Vicki Noeske it’s not a remake tho
It's not a remake--it's a sequel. I'm okay with it because if anyone can pull this off, it's Emily Blunt, who has Dame Julie's full blessing. And from what I understand, it's doing the same thing the first movie did--incorporating characters and incidents from the books into an original storyline.
Alex Meyer kind of a homage sequel
AS LONG AS LIN IS THERE IT’S GONNA BE GREAT
Pary Moppins is better.
Sherry Bobbins.
Im so happy that there making a new one im doing Mary Poppins Jr. Next week and next year we are going on a field trip to see the movie!
777769
She actually does kind of look like a young Julia Andrews. I love the original but I think she would do good in the role, she's been great in plenty of other films.
The only thing that worries me is Emily's characterization of making MP slightly a bit stricter than in the original
Manuel Orozco so more like the books.
Julie not Julia
Jenn Eiland-Cross Exactly. I actually never read them before
Manuel Orozco they're worth picking up at some point if you're inclined but Mary in the book is different than Mary in the film. I think part of it is we can't help but love Julie Andrews and that softens Mary.

Timmy Nguyen IKR. It's too much to handle for me. I'm looking forward to MP Returns, Bumbelbee, Aquaman and Spider Man Spiderverse
Jennifer Schillig I’m excited for Wreck It Ralph 2 and the Grinch
Meryl Streep’s in there too
pbscraze And Angela Lansbury aka the original Mrs Potts
PLEASE GIVE CAMEOS!!!
Well, Dick Van Dyke is returning as a now-much-older Dawes Jr....
and Easter eggs
Jennifer Schillig That’s going to be exciting. Based on the trailer yesterday he still got some dancing feet
So excited for this! I'm such a huge Mary Poppins fan!
The original was the peak of Walt Disney´s work. The sequel has ONE big lack...it´s not from and with Walt himself!
I hope the sequel Will be succesfull as the origonal from 1964,which was the nr. 1 succes movie of 1965!
WE WANT YONDU!!!!
Bob Sherman’s sun to do the music
Did you hear something? Because while Bob's no longer with us, his brother Richard is (and has a consulting hand in this year's Pooh-related "Christopher Robin".)
Emily blunt as Mary popping after 54 year Julie Andrew were as Mary popping.
When everyone is talking about how good Emily Blunt is here and most of the Marvel fans are expecting Michael Rooker and Hamilton fans are fangirling over Linnamon
Harley Laufeyson Some Comments are from Hamilton 😂
Denise_ Divine29,thanks
OMG...1:51..... Hermione Baddley, Glynis Johns and Elsa Lanchester. Old school movie heaven!!!!!
Please if you remake Mary Poppins Just don't make her black For God sakes
I hope that it would be Jane and Michell all grown up with children of them own.
The original MP is one of my favorite Disney movies ever! This sequel may not be able to beat the first film's magic but I do hope Disney doesn't completely disappoint. You also forgot to mention Marc Shaiman & Scott Wittman who did Hairspray are composing the music!
It doesn't necessarily have to beat MP as accent it and give a nod to Andrews, Van Dyke and the precious memories they bestowed.
Stuart Carlston At least Van Dyke will still be in this sequel
Look it's nanny Mcphee.
Lin Manuel Miranda is gonna be in it :)
I’d rather this sequel not exist. But if it has too. This still looks good. & I’ll see it. The cast especially has me excited.
i am open emily i think will be a ace mary bert be older but might be nice if lin is bert the kids will be ok usual posh stage school mob 😁
amy clarke Actually Lin is Jack who was Bert’s apprentice
Oscar bait role
I have wanted to see Julie Andrews again in the sequel so much. WHAT?! She will not be there? 😭😭😟☹😔😖
Apple Chiu She didn't want to upstage Emily Blunt
I dont think anyone cares about politics coming in to the film
Oliver Davis Even I don’t
They have a lot to live up to
Im probably going to get a lot of weird looks for tuis but if they do a rooftop dance we need a closeup of mary poppins tapping her pink shoes or whatever color they be
Step in time!
1. Julie Andrews
It’s going to be the exact same movie all over again.
DISNEY, STOP DESTROYING THE CLASSICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
Are they going to draw on any talent from the stage version that recently ran on Broadway?
Ray Fridley No
Spoonful Of Sugar
“what we want to see in Mary poppins returns” ...... JULIE ANDREWS! JULIE FUCKING ANDREWS 😭😭🙃🙃
tbh i wasnt mad on the film but liked the songs 😋
amy clarke Me neither I loved the movie but not something I would watch often.
There are only 4 members of the original Mary Poppins cast that are still alive today.
Dennis Scanlon And they are?
Manuel Orozco
Julie Andrews, Dick Van Dyke, Glynis Johns, and Karen Dotrice. These cast members played Mary Poppins, Bert, Mrs. Winifred Banks, and Jane Banks.
Dame Angela Lansbury confirmed that she sings the final song in the movie. Btw Dame Angela auditioned for Mary Poppins in the 1960s
Musicalfantastic I didn't know she auditioned until now
Yes. They asked many stars to audition. Bette Davis and Mary Martin did it too
Musicalfantastic No way about Mary Martin
"Never judge things by their appearance, even carpet bags..." The Cover is Not The Book... I love that the director continues promoting this value!
I'm actually really scared to watch this, i know its not a remake but a sequel but still nothing can top the old Mary Poppins. I hope Bert and Mary Poppins finally have a little romance. I don't care that the author said no to it. Mary Poppins×Bert For All Times!!!!!!!!
I ❤ Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke.
I used to be friends with julie andrews's grand daughter, but don't even try to ask me what her name is, OR ELSE!!!
honestly, I was only gonna watch for Lin-Manuel Miranda but like
I'm actually excited now
"fans have been waiting a long time for this follow up" ... euhm, no.? The 1964 Mary Poppins was practically perfect in every way. Do you need to repaint the Mona Lisa? no
Emily Blunt and Julie Andrews are British actresses, I can't imagine they have not an American actress for the role of Mary Poppins
The latest rumor is Mary Poppins was a graduate of Hogwarts. The person wasn't sure why Mary Poppins was allowed to do magic in front of muggles.
You don't redo "Mary Poppins". This will be some feminist bullshit for sure.

Emily Blunt was a fabulous Mary Poppins. I was hesitant at first but after seeing it I think it's a beautiful way for the franchise to end.
No me gustó la película , creo que no debieron hacerla Julie Andrews es demasiado talentosa ...y Emily ....hizo lo que pudo pero no llegó
Julie andrews is so sweet and a genuine person although nothing will beat her as mary poppins Emily Blunt is indeed the perfect pick for this film 😊😊😊
