Very inspiring Nick.. im an unfit 50yr old i first ran a 2.42 400m. Ive only done it 3 more time the last time i did in 1.49. Just seeing improvements is great and motivates me
My husband coached distance runners at many levels and had several former runners who became Olympians later on. Your point about shelf life/borrowed time is important to all runners. I remember one of my husband's best distance runners tore an ACL because another coach asked this runner to try the high jump. He was not happy with that coach. Young runners need to make sure they select a college to get an education as well as further their athletic career.
Hey Nick, not sure if you'll see this but you've really helped in inspiring me to really work hard during the track off-season, even going as far as to do XC as a sprinter. So thank you for doing what you're doing and keep it up. Also hope to make it to the 100m and long jump days.
Sums up a heck of a lot of other professional sports too. Tennis,Golf,Football are just a few that all demand so much from the athlete and time is ticking.
Very similar to what I've experienced in my employment history; 10 jobs in 40 years. Most of the past ones were 'lotteries' in that the places were closed down on a moments notice (bankruptcy, moving to a cheaper location). You learn to live with it and always have a back-up plan. And I'd call it 'aloneliness' , not loneliness. That comes with all the job changes, as your former fellow employees also move on and you loose 'track' of them (pun intended), and you don't form any close friendships or relationships with anyone.
Nick is looking at a checklist each video to mention the following: He’s the ceo of rungum, he’s a two time Olympian, and he’s giving away a free pair of shoes each week.
You’d make a damn good coach Nick! Running life may not be over for u. Get some talent under your wing and help them bring a medal back to USA. I think you’d be a great at starting a super elite running team similar to NN that hyper specializes in middle distances. 😀👍🏼
Hi Nick. I am Masters Track and Field middle distance runner. I love your channels and I really appreciate your candid advice. I live in New Zealand so if you ever make it over here let me know. Would probably be a few years from now I guess? Maybe we can meet up with another famous Nick, Nick Willis who has trained me a few times. Would be nice to crank out a few 200s with you Olympic legends!!! Also, if you need a distributor of your rungum over in NZ, maybe I could help? Cheers
Hey Nick! I am a freshman track runner and my parents won’t let me have instagram, could you put out the times and locations to the meets on this channel? I am in southern Washington so it will be a little bit of a drive but hopefully not too bad. I am looking forward to hopefully running in the 800, mile and 5k!!
Are there negative things? You run for living… I'd kill for that! Edit: the first 2 are literally positive for me bc I want to train alone I don't like talking with people and also since I am lazy I don't want to do a mental job as the 90%+ of the jobs.
