I’m glad to help Chris!
Loved the tip to sew to the diagonal of the corner. Also the tip about using the needle to create a straight edge. Great instructions. Thanks
I love your method, especially not pre-folding the binding. I love when the lazy way is the better way!
So far my favorite method!! Thank you!!
You are so welcome!
@@SewModernQuilts I used the ladder stitch to sew the label on my quilt and it looks amazing! Thank you again!
Thank you Amy! Excellent video.
Excellent! I needed this! Thank you!
GREAT video, full of precious suggestions! Thank you so much
Great video, Thanks for the tutorial on bindings!
Thanks for a great tutorial!!
Really really helpful. Thankyou so much .
Great tutorial. My sister is just learning to quilt and I'm going to forward this to her. It's difficult to explain how to add a binding to a quilt over the phone. I suggested she UA-cam it and here you are with a video. I've been quilting for 20+ years and I learned a few things from you as well. I've always backed straight out at the corner. I like the idea of angling your stitch off the corner and then starting down the next side 1/4" in from that edge.
Yes, visuals are much better for bindings! I hope she's enjoying quilting :)
Beautiful binding! I’m going to try your technique next time!
Fantastic Grace! You'll have to let me know how it goes.
Fantastic video! So many tips & tricks. How RADICAL to not press the binding in half 🤓 I’ve always wondered when turning a corner if sewing off the edge at a 45• and then starting back sewing a 1/4 inch in really made a difference in the overall appearance of the corner. The tips on hand sewing the corners are brilliant! Only just recently have I realized I’ve been using the ladder stitch all along instead of the whip stitch. I wasn’t aware there was a difference but now I’m enlightened 💡
I have a wall hanging quilt waiting for binding and I’m going to give it a go on all your tricks 😊
I hope it went on easily, and turned out well Heather - thanks for your note!
Great video, thank you! I feel liberated not to press the binding! 😂👍🏻 Could you tell me the needle size you use as I’d prefer a sturdier needle.
Thank you. I usually machine sew binding but like your method for handstitching. I will try it on my next smaller quilt. And I like cutting out the pressing step to fold the binding. Did cut your binding on grain or on the diagonal? Also like the idea if a sew along.
I almost always cut straight of grain bindings. The sew along begins in 2 weeks!
Lot’s of great tips. Thanks for sharing. If you are stitching the binding on with a 3/8” seam allowance, wouldn’t you stop 3/8” away from the end, not 1/4” away?
Great point! I noticed this detail as I was editing the video - yes, looking for the 45-degree angle depending on your seam allowance is ideal.
I have two questions, please. When you do the diagonal end stitch at the end of the row is the diagonal directly to the end at the point of the corner or right before and is that angle off the edge stitch 90 degrees or less? I hope I made myself clear. Thank you for the wonderful tutorial. Binding is my struggle to be sure.
Nevermind just rewatched it and got my answers. lol
Hi Amy. Great video. My only question is this. If you sew your binding on with a 3/8 seam allowance do you always stop at 1/4 inch at the corner? I made a wider binding once and ran into trouble with the 1/4 inch stop at the edge. Does it make a difference how wide the binding is or what the seam allowance is?
I would suggest looking for a 45-degree angle for the best results. It can be 1/4" or 3/8" depending on how wide your seam allowance is.
If you are using a 3/8" seam allowance on the binding do you still stop 1/4" from corner or should it be 3/8" from the corner before you do the stitching diagonally to the point?
Yes! I slow down and check the angle as I approach the corner, for great results every time.
