The more I see and hear of Brent Mason, the more-impressed I get. That man has some "big ears," and he's capable of playing a whole ton of different styles of music. Taste galore, too, and the chops to do what he hears. Creative as heck, too. Brent, if you are reading this, just two words: "More, please!"
Man these guys can play! Brent is a killer guitarist and Chuck lays down a sweet solo as well. Dave is as smooth as glass on bass providing a nice fat bottom end. Scotty is an amazing young fellow. Give a young drummer a set of brushes these days and they won't have a clue what to do with them. Scotty plays a tasty solo and keeps rock solid time throughout the entire song with them. This is a great combination of musicians. I really love this tune off of Brent's 'Smokin Section' album!
I lived in Nashville from 96 to 2016..........great city.......great talent........the finest city for anything music.......not great Italian food........but everything else AWESOME
It's a display of how hard he has studied and learned from other jazz guitar players benson, montgomery, Martino, hank Garland et al... I wish he would release a straight ahead jazz album... guy is so good it hurts..
I just saw Brent's "rig rundown" interview today taken back in '06? Same guitar and amp. He mixes string gauges for his best sound. Great technique with an ear to boot!
Brent has that tele making two sounds...open smooth sounds like a hollow body but some hard attacks bring it back to the tele twang. His ricochet, echo solo partner is all tele.
Just goes to show what can be done with a Tele type guitar in the right hands. Never underestimate the importance of the Telecaster, or it's versatility.
Was watching the other vids of this show and thinking, man that bass player is killing it, then the camera angle changes and I see its Dave Roe!! No wonder it sounds so good!!
he other guitar player is very qualified and makes as great duo with Brent , Amazing guitar work great bass playing right in the pocket and drumming...
He's got great ears for jazz changes! I hope Brent does a swing or jazz album sometime; I'm sure it would be killer. Harkens back to the good old days of the 1950s and 1960s when the Nashville cats cut hit country records by day, and jammed on jazz afterhours in the clubs. Hank Garland and all of those greats.
Ive been playing for years and only just discovered Brent.. I really think he’s an amazing player Take ‘virtuoso’ rock players and put them in this setting and they wouldnt have a clue!!
It's the way Nashville cats play jazz. All day, the top players in Nashville do session work playing country and other popular styles, but come the night-time and a chance to hang out together, they often test themselves by playing jazz, western swing and other complex and challenging styles. Back in the day fifty or more years ago, guys like Hank Garland played jazz and country, too, waxing sides in both genres to critical and commercial acclaim and success. Hank could play country & western with the best of them, and then hang up his cowboy hat and become a jazz-man playing smoky clubs in NY City with the cats. Garland could do it all. Just like Brent Mason, whom I am sure could hold his own in a straight-ahead jazz group or role.
@@rasm0225 Thank, man I don't know how I missed it the first time. I did get though, and I called him. We're gonna do some recording in the near future. He's a very nice person too, in addition to being a kick ass drummer!
There is just so much Jimmy Bryant in Brent's playing and that is magnificent!
What a fine display of Western Swing from some of Nashville's greatest, Bob Wills is looking from above smiling.
I came here for Brent because I love his playing, but the RHYTHM SECTION is INSANE as well!!!!

Wow, that is hot playing by everyone! Loved it all, thank you!
These Nashville guys are such killer players.

I hear Kenny Burrell in his playing too.
I could listen to those go back and forth all day and never get bored, just sensational guitar playing.

Not many could hold their own up there with Brent. Well played Chuck!

Let's not forget David Roe. Monster bassist. Fluid AF.
He's killing it isn't he?
@@axeman2638 Indeed he is Axe Man!
Four virtuosos, one of them a guitar genius, making great music.

Wow,I would love to,one day,see Brent Mason play with the french guitarist,Bireli Lagrene,I think it would be a fantastic duo!
Joscho Stephan ;)
Two great guitar players !!!
Brent's tone was great and sick licks!
Real talent in every aspect.
These guys are making it look like Leo had it right back in 1949- the Tele is all you need:)

RIP, Dave Roe... What a remarkable bass player.

0:48, It's Brian Wampler in the background manning the other camera!
I call that jazz
Mr. Wampler cameo @0:40
I hadn't caught that until I saw the comment haha
Remember when music was good!? Kids these days have no clue.
Shit, I’ve turned into my grandpa. Gotta go to bed now, 7pm
Would love to see Brent and Scotty Anderson playing together.
That would be cool! They are both from Ohio too! Must be something in the water up there that producers super Tele' pickers.
Who's the other guy? He's killer! Mr. Happy on bass not too shabby too.
Get outta my shot Brian Wampler. LOL. I see him filming in the back.
Good bass player to.
😮
@ :40 seconds isn't that Wampler Pedals walking on the right of Brent?
Ya, you know your good when Brian Wampler is filming you.
Just a question ...is swing ... jazz or country western. Amazing musicians

What's the drummer's name? Anybody? He's great!
Says Scotty Schultz on title card during his solo.

SHIT. THEY THINK I'M BETTERN' DUSTY!!!!
Is it Brian Wampler at the back as a camera man?
yep
Hot damn, but it's good.
Daaaayum... Not much else to say. :)
DAM, Chuck Ward can smoke that guitar too!!
B
Yummy
I spy Brian Wampler backstage
Bass players no slouch
Do you catch Wampler in the background trying to steal JHS secret info? Yeah, we see what you're doing Brian!
Other guitarist?
He's bad-ass, whoever he is.
Chuck Ward
Sad there isn’t anyone else here who cares... goodbye ..😳
great but they ain't Danny
Why do they all look like they're not having a good time? Relax your mind Brent and your ass will follow. Great player but not enough emotion for me.
