But in reality, that white glave is also very heavy. The blade weighs 1.1KG. It has heavy metal in the black part of the blade. But the blade made it as flexible and safe as possible for the safety of the opponent. If it was a real 5kg weapon and the blade was 3kg, everyone would have been hurt. But this is a sport for us, not martial arts for murder. Let's settle for testing, simulating. Sometimes you want a hell of a battle reality... we even have a working life in real life hahaha.

Having good armor on makes a big difference. Even if the armor doesn't completely stop an attack, it can turn it from a lethal one into a flesh wound. The Three Kingdoms is full of accounts of warriors bearing many scars on their bodies. So it's not that they never get hit; it's just that the armor saves them in a lot of cases.
From your comment, why it sounds like you assumed that the three kingdoms generals and strategists fight like in Dynasty Warriors, killing people like grass 😂
Remember that most people on war were farmers trained to poke people with pointy sticks barely armored, and not professional soldiers with proper armor and a good pole arm.
Across almost all cultures in history, the more skilled a warrior was with weapons, the less likely he actually went on the battlefield. The most skilled warriors usually stay behind in castle and acted as weapon masters, teaching recruits. This was for three main reasons : 1. skills with a weapon actually barely increased your survival time on an actual battlefield. Even if you were ultra good with a weapon in 1 vs 1, a 2 vs 1 fight against barely trained soldiers could still end you quick. Plus there was arrows, horses, and else on the battlefield that made your survival very random. 2. Training someone to master level skills took a lot of time and ressources, which no right minded lord would gamble by sending them on the battlefield. Better to use them to train recruits. 3. And even more when troups of barely trained peasant with a pointy stick were actually devastating in wars, and cost almost nothing. History wars were not like in manga, they were much more about ressources management.
It seems the story of Romance of the Three Kingdoms is right about Guan Yu's Dragon Glaive. The book said that the Glaive has the weight of 40 kg, and entirely made from metal. And every time we see Guan Yu in action (in every Three Kingdoms drama out there), he always use swinging movement, like what the White Armor Man doing in this sparring. The point of the technique actually use the weight of the weapon to overcome the enemy defense. So when the user swing his Guan Dao, even if the enemy parry it with their weapon, they will still overwhelmed by the weight factor of the Blade. That's why Guan Yu won a lot in battle (at least in Romance of the Three Kingdoms book). He used he muscles and the weight of his weapon to overcome the enemy defense, so whenever he swing his Dao, it doesn't matter if the enemy parry it or not, it will always score a kill for him.
Iirc the "40 kg" was more like a training one for muscle development; you wouldn't be able to wield one that heavy in a combat scenario. A 5-10 kg is more likely its combat weight, and that's still incredibly heavy. Imagine the inertia and force behind that spinning jump strike? That's gotta be intense.
@@hemmydall 40kg would be completely impractical for fighting. Even 5kg would be much heavier than most polearms intended for combat, which are more like 2-3kg. There is that manual by Cheng Zi Yi that says 5.9-11.8kg for this weapon. I'm skeptical a polearm of such weight would be effective.
Thank you for your comment. I am the white armor man. I tried to show actual glenabe skills whenever possible. The 2-on-1 match was difficult. My eyes kept moving and it was crazy. Haha. Although the inner weapon is plastic, it is not light. It's over 2 kilograms. Actually, I have a 5.5 kilogram dragon glaive. It's very heavy and not good for many techniques. Really interesting how a lot of the times the swordsmen are just really scared of that massive weapon. Psychology plays a big part in fights and coming with a fat armor and huge weapon can intimidate the crap out of someone!
Some issues with this video: 1. The swordman should not be able to block the heavy 360 rotation blow. Just like you cannot expect a short sword to fully block the wide swing of a claymore due to the momentum. 2. The Guandao seems to be abit short short. The mounting point of the Dao should be at the top of your head. It seems to be more than a head short.
it is a weapon intended to be used on horseback... also the actual dragon glaive weapon would have been substantially heavier than a sword (and would probably be hard for a swordsman to parry) finally... the guy would have had over 10 years of experience with the weapon.... and would have many more and better moves.

I held a real glaive like that in Vietnamese's dojo (Bình Định province, to be exact). At that time, i have been practicing martial art for 2 and a half years and i still remember the feeling of my arms became so stiff and tired that they refused to lift the weapon, after practice with it for 15 minutes. Against two opponents, your only real option is to use your reach to try to get them to back themselves into a corner, leave a foot open, trip over an obstacle, make some kind of small mistake while keeping out of your reach. And then immediately try to capitalize on that small mistake to rapidly make it 1:1. Which he ALMOST managed to do a few times. Of course, armor rather than "hits" changes things a little bit.
I was expecting more belly and leg cuts. Spinning overhead attacks are easy to block because they are big moves. It is better to be aggressive and keep moving against multiple opponents, otherwise they overwhelm you. The glaive user still did a good job tho.

The pommel of the guan dao could have been used for thrusting instead of holding it just like a handle
This looked super fun. XD
The swordsmen developed a lot in one day! Chughahaeyo!
FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE WHO PLAYS THIS GAME!
Super cool fight simulation
It didnt matter who won to me. Its that they had fun which was nice to see.
This was done really well thanks guys
Все это очень хорошо когда у тебя легкая палочка в руке.Но когда ты возьмешь в руки глеву из стали с толстым ясеневым древком ,все поменяется)
😂😂😂 but serious. Your videos are good, educational. Thanks 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Excellent j'adore !!
"Master of The Dragon Glaive!!"
*Proceeds to kick the glaive the wrong way, almost loses grip and smashes the blade in the ground
I believe the man with the Dragon Glaive needs more training and practice on how to use the guandao before attempting such a feat again.
i think glaive mean for mounted combat. on foot people usually go for lighter and quicker weapon like sword or spear.
i hope you guys had as much fun making the video as i did watching it
I wonder if part of the difficultly was that he wasn’t on horseback. Isn’t the dragon glance a horseback weapon?
It was also a weapon to slay horses 😐
A guan dao is supposed to be so heavy its imossible to block it. You cant fight it like a spear. Its a literal sword on a stick.
Yeah and at least in the novel he fights on the horse, so it's sorta like jousting, with the momentum of the hosrse he'd be unstoppable.
I was thinking a sword could not block the momentum of full weight . This would also break bones if full weight.
Gura-gura no mi is not yet attached to the Glaive
This was really fun!
Is that the war flail man???
Didnt he use this weapon on horseback mostly?
A Guandao, Hell Yeah!!!
Now do 2 Drsgon Glaive vs. 2 Swordsman.
As depicted in movies, the main purpose of the glaive was to lop enemies head clean off while on horse back. Wonder how doable would that be.
