One of my best friends in the world is a trans lesbian. Her birth family never accepted her. When she came to my state to visit with her wife, I just told her "You are like a sister to me, so my mom is now your mom too." I even introduced her and her wife to my mother. This is a wonderful short film, and I am thankful you made it. :)
@@smair9900 okay this will be me trying to explain. the definition of lesbian is non man loving non man, right? so before a trans woman transitions or realizes she’s trans, she might think she was simply a straight man. because well, she thought she had to be a boy, and she liked girls. but then she realizes what being trans means and is, and connects with it. she realizes she’s trans and comes out, but still likes women. that would then make her a trans lesbian. but then comes into play transphobic lesbians, which we call terfs. they are lesbians that don’t think trans women are women, and that therefore they cant be lesbians. but trans women are women and can totally be lesbians. but not wanting to date or have sex with a trans person doesnt make you transphobic. you can have what’s called a genital preference, where you prefer someone to have either a vagina or a penis. having a genital preference doesn’t make you transphobic as long as you don’t wanna date them purely because they’re trans. that might sound complicated so here’s a simpler version of genital preference vs transphobia: genital preference: not wanting to date someone queer and trans because you don’t wanna have sex with someone with parts you aren’t attracted to, but still respecting their gender identity. an example of genital preference in a sentence: “i don’t feel comfortable dating you because i prefer _____ genitals.” transphobia: refusal to date/have sex with someone purely because they are trans. not seeing that person as their gender identity. an example of transphobia in a sentence: “i dont wanna date you because i only date women, and you’re not a woman because you have a penis.” so that’s kind of it in simple terms,, but if you want me to explain more i can :)
And it’s so sad that rather than be excited that she got a high grade, she was crushed that all she saw was her deadname (and her friend next to her felt that crushing blow with her)

I only noticed this after watching it years later but I appreciate how the only spoken words are a confirmation of Allie's transition Edit: I should rephrase. Those spoken lines represent, to me, the social transition of trans people, unfortunately often starting with hostility and alienation but ending with love and support from those most important. Of course an upsettingly high number of trans people don’t get this ending but the film is aiming to make that ending a reality for every trans person. So while the first line is a deadname, it is necessary to represent that arc.
There’s also a very quiet “no” when the dad goes to hug Allie. Allie sees her dad for the first time since deployment, and immediately cowers in fear and shame, and her dad’s very quiet “no” while running to hug her was a “no” of reassurance, like “no I’m not upset”
I usually just copy paste my complete disdain for people like you but I have energy today so here we go. This is a personal belief that if ur a parent u should always be the first one to be their for ur kid if possible if u can't be the first always u can always support them
I'm a trans girl who's parents are far away. My mother and siblings are extremely religious, and have said outright for over 15 years that they will never accept me for myself. This is a wonderful short film, and I am thankful you made it. :)
As a trans gay man makes my heart happy. You are such a great friend 🥺❤️
I can understand being trans or lesbian. But both of them together is pretty hard for me to understand.
@@smair9900 okay this will be me trying to explain.
the definition of lesbian is non man loving non man, right?
so before a trans woman transitions or realizes she’s trans, she might think she was simply a straight man. because well, she thought she had to be a boy, and she liked girls.
but then she realizes what being trans means and is, and connects with it. she realizes she’s trans and comes out, but still likes women. that would then make her a trans lesbian.
but then comes into play transphobic lesbians, which we call terfs. they are lesbians that don’t think trans women are women, and that therefore they cant be lesbians.
but trans women are women and can totally be lesbians. but not wanting to date or have sex with a trans person doesnt make you transphobic. you can have what’s called a genital preference, where you prefer someone to have either a vagina or a penis. having a genital preference doesn’t make you transphobic as long as you don’t wanna date them purely because they’re trans.
that might sound complicated so here’s a simpler version of genital preference vs transphobia:
genital preference: not wanting to date someone queer and trans because you don’t wanna have sex with someone with parts you aren’t attracted to, but still respecting their gender identity.
an example of genital preference in a sentence: “i don’t feel comfortable dating you because i prefer _____ genitals.”
transphobia: refusal to date/have sex with someone purely because they are trans. not seeing that person as their gender identity.
an example of transphobia in a sentence: “i dont wanna date you because i only date women, and you’re not a woman because you have a penis.”
so that’s kind of it in simple terms,, but if you want me to explain more i can :)

I only noticed this after watching it years later but I appreciate how the only spoken words are a confirmation of Allie's transition
Edit: I should rephrase.
Unfortunately also at the beginning, where she is deadnamed by that teacher. Which is juxtaposition of sorts?
Actually the teacher stopping her from the bathroom says her boy name.
There’s also a very quiet “no” when the dad goes to hug Allie. Allie sees her dad for the first time since deployment, and immediately cowers in fear and shame, and her dad’s very quiet “no” while running to hug her was a “no” of reassurance, like “no I’m not upset”

You're so detached from reality it's unreal. Putting 'a boy' in quotes as if that's not true. I'm honestly curious, how does this work out in real life? I'm sure a good portion of the military can be fairly conservative especially when hyped up on military machismo, but at the same time it's a father coming back to their family after months or years.

That’s exactly how my daddy reacted to me when I transitioned. He loves me like a daughter and I’m now grown and I’m 34. A dad’s love for a daughter is so wholesome and truly precious.
Haven’t seen my abusive dad in 3 years. In those 3 years I’ve come out as trans. My only interaction with him since he just pretended my transition never happened (even though my stepmom, his wife, told him and she supports me). This hits me right in the feelings. Beautiful short-film. I’m thankful for my mom and my friends being supportive 🥺🥺🥺
😞 To hear 👂that 😖 😱 abuse, Father, I'm sorry that you gotta go through it 💔 my 🫀about your story about your life. My brother, use pick on me. You know a bully for long ⏲️ I can't forget and forgive him.
I ❤ you, Ayanith & wish many good friends by your side.
Allie is a beautiful young woman. She is strong to be taking the help from others that helps her, and to be doing what she can to protect herself from those who wish her harm. She is a real woman.

Hello dumbfuck, this is a copy paste I’m sure will apply to you. I send this to every ignorant motherfucker I see being transphobic of homophobic. You are the trash of society, you don’t deserve the life that you have and personally I think you should be locked away just for having opinions like that. Unfortunately freedom of speech gives you the right to say these things, however just know that if given the chance there are those who would take everything from you without hesitation.
With love, someone who hates conservatives, religious extremists, and you personally

First of all, I have a transgender sibling and the film we made is truly touching and meaningful. My wish is that people should not have definitive judgments about the people they know, meet, or give birth to because some things are not lived out by choices.
As a supportive parent, knowing that this reaction is the one keeping our babies alive is guy wrenching. Accepting and loving and respecting our child’s identity is the difference in life or death sometimes.
@@Michael-xr5yx very few surgeons provide surgery to minors. Period. They receive support and therapy and maybe hormone replacement. Second, are you as emphatic about plastic surgery on minors for things like breast implants or nose jobs? Because those are more common than gender reassignment and are done for superficial reasons.
@@Michael-xr5yx no it is not the same, but you failed to read that 99% of surgeons worth a crap don't actually do surgerynon minors. You are so fixated on your misperceptions that you can't see Noone is mutilating children. This is about unconditional love and acceptance.
@@Michael-xr5yx judging someone for doing something to themselves that YOU don't agree with is hate. I do not care what someone else does. Who they love. It isn't my body. If it gives them peace and joy and takes away a desire for suicide.or self harm, more power to them.

I literally bursted out in tears at the end bc I have a trans bf (ftm) and nobody accepts him except me. No matter what I’ll always support him ❤️

The "Hi Allie" at the end gets me EVERY TIME. Her sheer relief and joy at his acceptance just makes me cry right along with her. 😭
its been almost a year since my dad disowned me for being trans. i came out in january of last year and after a couple months of the silent treatment, he disowned me and we havent spoken since. i remember watching this video when it first came out and not fully understanding it, but now watching it i cant help but wish my dad would have said “Hi, Charlie” to me.
Hi Charlie! Hope your day’s going okay
Omg the end though, i love how the dad validated her by saying her correct name
Imagine getting that much support from your dad
My parents are the reason I’m afraid to come out

Even if you come out and things go badly, there are so many people out there who love you for who you are. Sometimes the family you choose is stronger than the family you're born into. Please don't ever forget that and please stay strong and keep moving. You can do this!!
@@vitanyroyale thanks for the encouraging words, but even still. I’m gonna wait until I’m at least 18, because when I hinted at it a little bit, my mom said I was “too young”
@Jango Fett what do you mean by “be your correct gender”?
@@Soup_yRat I feel you on that; plus as a legal adult you'll be able to navigate the world without your folks permission if things go wrong and you have to figure out alternatives. Stay strong though!!
