Don “The Snake” Prudhomme (Apr. 6, 1941) a true legend of the sport, concluded his 47th year in drag racing when he retired in 2009. He spent 32 seasons behind the wheel as one of the sports elite drivers followed by 15 seasons as a successful team owner. He began his career crewing for TV Tommy Ivo but by the age of 20, he scored his 1st professional victory in a dragster. In 1965 he was the first to win both the Winternationals and U.S. Nationals in the same season. He moved from Top fuel to Funny Cars in 1973 and won his 1st Nationals. In 1975 he was first to break the 6 second mark. He went on to set the NHRA Funny Car World Record in 1980, a record he would re-set 2 more times ending in 1988 with a time of 5.305 seconds. Prudhomme did not stop re-writing the NHRA record books despite leaving his role as a driver to become a multi-car team owner. He was inducted into both the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America and the International Motorsports Hall of Fame.
Top Fuel is a type of drag racing whose dragsters are the quickest accelerating racing cars in the world and the fastest sanctioned category of drag racing, with the fastest competitors reaching speeds of 338.94 miles per hour (545.5 km/h) and finishing the 1,000 foot (304.8 m) runs in 3.641 seconds.
A top fuel dragster accelerates from a standstill to 100 mph (160.9 km/h) in as little as 0.8 seconds (less than one third the time required by a production Porsche 911 Turbo to reach 60 mph (96.6 km/h))[1] and can exceed 297 mph (478.0 km/h) in just 660 feet (201.2 m). This subjects the driver to an average acceleration of about 4.0 g0 (39 m/s2) over the duration of the race and with a peak of over 5.6 g0 (55 m/s2).
Because of the speeds, this class races a 1,000 foot (304.8 m) distance, not the traditional drag-race length of one-fourth of a statute mile, or 1,320 feet (402.3 m). The rule was introduced in 2008 by the National Hot Rod Association after the fatal crash of Funny Car driver Scott Kalitta during a qualifying session at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, New Jersey. The shortening of the distance was used by the FIA at some tracks, and as of 2012 is now the standard Top Fuel distance defined by the FIA. The International Hot Rod Association, which at the time sanctioned Top Fuel in Australia, dropped the 1/4-mile distance in September 2017 after a campaign by Santo Rapisarda, a car owner who often runs NHRA races in the United States.

I HOPE that model companies start making the soft plastic engine wiring for their 1/24 engines! It would make life so much easier!! Looks great, Chris! I have little interest in racing vehicles but I am definitely interested in this kit…especially for the wiring!

Kieth Black Hemi Engines beat all the rest. AKA "Father of smokeless cars." From the 40's, into the 60's, cars burned 2 quarts of oil per tank of gas - and smoked like a cigar. Kieth saw his early race engines making less power on the track than on paper. He found the extra metal around the piston pins caused the pistons to go "egg shape" and lose power. He cast new pistons "egg shape" - when they heated up they went round - no leaks. Called Cam Ground - Detroit copied - no more oil loss.
