  • Here's 5 things the Long Life can do that other EQ and filter pedals can't. Settings and timestamps below.

    PRO-TIP #1: BROKEN DISTORTION
    Freq: 40%
    Q: 60%
    Gain: Maximum
    Tilt: Maximum
    Volume: 60%
*Put the Long Life in your amp's FX loop for this one, if possible
    PRO-TIP #2: SPARKLY OVERDRIVE
    Freq: 55%
    Q: 30%
    Gain: 80%
    Tilt: Maximum
    Volume: Maximum
    PRO-TIP #3: MONOPHONIC SYNTH
Increase Q to the point of self-oscillation, then use an expression pedal and a stutter switch to control the Long Life like a synthesizer or tone generator
*SAFETY NOTE: make sure the gain across your entire setup is not too high; the self-oscillation tones produced with this method can cause problems at high volumes
    PRO-TIP #4: INDESCRIBABLE MODULATION EFFECT
    Freq: 45%
    Q: 30%
    Gain: 75%
    Tilt: 5%
    Volume: 60%
Side Step settings: ramp pattern, slow rate
    PRO-TIP #5: RANDOM WAH
    Freq: 40%
    Q: 70%
    Gain: Maximum
    Tilt: Maximum
    Volume: Maximum
Side Step settings: random pattern, slow rate
    TIMESTAMPS:
    0:00 Intro
    0:43 Pro-Tip #1
    1:24 Pro-Tip #2
    3:28 Pro-Tip #3
    4:46 Pro-Tip #4
    5:47 Pro-Tip #5

Thanks, that part took a stupidly long amount of time because playing the melody like that is actually really hard. So I’m glad you enjoyed it.

Thanks. FWIW I use pro-tip #1 in this video a lot when I'm recording stuff. Even if you don't go for full-on broken distortion, settings very similar to those shown in #1 can help focus the tone in a way that sits very distinctly in a mix. So for that alone I'm glad I have this pedal.

Yes! I bought a long life a while ago and then have just ordered a side-step without even having seen your video. You have just confirmed that it was a good idea! Can’t wait to put them together. Have you tried using the cv controls?

That random stepped wah sounded great. The real tip here was the side step. For a less advanced question - how easy is it to dial in a cocked wah sound with this to get into Khruangbin territory?

    • @CyberattackWorld
      @CyberattackWorld  3 роки тому +1

Extremely easy. The only reason I didn't cover that is because of how easy it is-you can do it within 5 seconds of turning the pedal on. And the fact that you have Q and frequency controls means that you can design your own wah in the first place, and then cock it however you want.

@@CyberattackWorld Thanks! I love watching your videos for the weird and out there use cases - a great way to learn a lot about the pedal and get inspired to do things I'd never have thought of.

Where do you prefer to place the Long Life? After the guitar?
After the distortions and before the amp?
or at the end of the chain?
I find this eq more interesting at the beginning of the chain, I think

    • @CyberattackWorld
      @CyberattackWorld  2 роки тому

For the brokenish sound in the first pro-tip, it really needs to go after your amp somehow-the easiest way would be to stick it in an FX loop if your amp has one, otherwise your could settle for putting it after your dirt pedals. It can also create very notched, specific distortion sounds this way like Queens of the Stone Age would use.
For the 2nd pro-tip, it should go before your dirt pedals or into an already driven amp.
For everything else I would say experiment. It’s a really versatile pedal and I’ve come to love it more and more.

I have just bought this eq and I can not achieve a single sound you have made,(following settings precisely) wondering if there is something wrong with my pedal!

    • @CyberattackWorld
      @CyberattackWorld  2 роки тому

For sound number one, make sure the Long Life is in your amp’s FX loop-or if you’re using an amp modeler like the Iridium, put the Long Life after the modeler. A crucial part of this sound is forcing the Long Life to mangle your whole signal, not just your guitar.
For sound number 2, make sure the amp tone you’re starting with is already on the verge of breaking up. If your sound is too clean the Long Life won’t be able to push it over the edge.
For the other sounds, try adjusting the position of the Freq knob above and below how I have it in my diagrams (this goes for sounds 1 and 2 as well). The Freq knob is highly reactive to the specific character of your rig, and so you may need to search a little to find the spot where it starts to do the thing I get it to do in the video, since you and me are starting from different rigs anyway.
Try all that and hopefully it will start to sound closer.
