are you planning on doing the same for the clone wars? While I do realize that TCW is a far longer show and that it would take considerably longer to watch and even longer to rank all episodes of the show. really enjoyed this Video an appreciate the effort it took to make it@@thegoldman25
Totally unrelated but I'd honestly like to hear your views on the new(ish) Velma show. I actually sorta liked it despite popular opinion. I know its not something you would usually do but I'd like to hear from someone who is less biased than many on UA-cam who tend to hate on Velma for a myriad of unrelated reasons.@@thegoldman25
6:48 No, it's not a contradiction to his portrayal in the Clone Wars. During the youngling arc (a season 5 arc) we see Hondo at his most vile, attacking a youngling ship, smoking the younglings out of the vents, and capturing Ahsoka with plans to sell her dead or alive. By the end of the arc he's perfectly capable of escaping but sticks around to help because one of the younglings asked him for help. He definitely grew a heart there and it makes perfect sense for him to keep it into Rebels.
Not to mention, but in Rebels he was older and more mellowed out. In Clone Wars he was a "Hard As Nails Pirate." In Rebels he was the "Old Pirate." Still interested in profit and treasure bit he'd "been there seen that" and saw parts of himself in Ezra.
Honestly I think Zero Hour is generally BETTER than Twilight of the Apprentice, in part because it doesn't rely so heavily on returning characters. Like, yeah, Twilight of the Apprentice is good, but it's mainly because of Maul, Ahsoka, and Vader. Zero Hour really gives the Rebels-original characters a chance to shine, as well as paints the Empire as the ruthless and cunning villain it's intended to be. (imdb scores obviously aren't everything, but it always makes me a bit sad to see that Zero hour is the lowest rated by a decent bit)
I always took Hondo's change in personality as a result of the time that had passed since CW. He lost his crew and likely went through a number of humbling experiences because of the Empire. Maybe by that point he started to have life regrets, like wishing he had had a kid, so Ezra starts to become a surrogate child to him. Was he bad in Clone Wars? Yes, but assuming he can't have changed at least somewhat for the better is like assuming that Anakin was incapable of becoming Vader or that Vader couldn't have been redeemed. People do change with time and experience. Anyway, he's still a con man, just a more mellowed out one.
Same honestly. It was one of the funniest ones, and as someone who loves the family aspect of rebels, it was a great episode. Not to mention Zeb and Ezra didn't really like each other until this episode, quite important for character development.
I still think there was a missed opportunity to make the seventh sister Barris and a interesting rival with Ashoka. She even looks like her and has a valid excuse to become an inquisitor, especially since she would have caught Palpatine’s attention at her trial
Rebels always stood in Clone Wars' shadows thanks to the cancellation, but looking at it alone its quite solid I would say Heck we got incredible scenes such as Mauls last encounter with Kenobi and Thrawn is just great to see back in action
No, not really. Clone Wars with the exception of 7th season was made by a student who was still learning. Rebels was made by a master. The difference in quality of writing is very noticeable. Not to mention that Clone Wars is essentially a bunch of war stories put together with no real connection among them. While Rebels has an actual overall plot with the start and the end. And the actual, very well developed main characters. In contrast Clone Wars has only one main character - Ahsoka, who is not always present on screen. While the others like Anakin and Obi-wan are static. They don't change. There is no character development there. Sure it is not Filoni's fault. They can't be change in the show because of the movies, but it makes them supporting characters and decrease the quality of the show drastically.
@@hint1kYou didnt understand Clone Wars. The shows main character is the war itself, the time period between episode 2 and 3. The shows beginning is set right after episode 2 when the war began and it ends during episode 3 when it ends. What we see during this time is how the war affects the galaxy so stop this „just a bunch of war stories without a connection“ bs. Yes, not every episode features the same characters but this is what makes the show special and why people love it. The makers wanted to TELL STORIES and SHOW us this huge galaxy that George created and what is beyond the movies. We get to see the galaxy like never before, we see so many new and old places, characters and perspectives. The worldbuilding is incredible and makes the galaxy feel huge. Even places that only appear once feel like they could exist, something that you cant say when watching Rebels. Your master/ student metaphor is exactly the other way, we already saw that in the worldbuilding, but also in the character work. CW managed to turn monotone killing machines into complex individuals, a silent henchman into one of the greatest villains of the franchise, created some of its most beloved characters and even managed to turn Jar-Jar Binks into a good character. Rebels has six main characters, out of which 3 are soulless stereotypes that stay heavily underdeveloped. Unlike Ahsoka, Ezra is annoying for half of the show and Sabine is a boring Mary Sue that is so op that other characters feel useless around her, making Kanan the only well written character. The villains are also poorly written and the show is the most interesting, when characters from other media appear. That tells you already everything you need to know about the show: it sucks.
@@GreenNinj4thrawn is poorly written? Vader is shit? The only thing that villain bad is the empire losing, which is the point of the show, that empire is not invisible like people thought
A note on #72 Fighter Flight. I totally get it, it's dumb, its childish. But there is something about it that makes me love it so much! I think it has to do with the storm trooper that goes something like, "Wait, you did all this. For fruit?!" Legit makes me laugh every time! XD
One thing most people overlook in defense of the Ghost crew always beating the empire so easily, is that the entire crew are highly skilled individuals. Kanan is a Jedi who had multiple years of experience leading troops during the clone wars. Hera is an extremely skilled pilot and has spent her whole life around war, especially her father's guerilla style tactics which is what the ghost crew mostly uses. Zeb was the captain of the Lasan honor guard, which is basically the top position in his species' military. Sabine is a tech genius, an above average pilot, a mandalorian, and had spent a fair amount of time as a bounty hunter before even joining the crew. Chopper is one of the oldest and most experienced astromechs in the galaxy, due to never having his memory wiped, and in addition to that he has several custom upgrades. And as for Ezra, he spent most of his childhood surviving on the street providing for himself, which gave him both stealth skills, as well as being very good at deception, and on top of that he later becomes a Jedi. One last thing is Ezra had a good number of failures and mistakes early on which were realistic and he progressively grew out of them in the show.
To quote the OT fanboys „but stormtroopers are highly capable super trained elite soldiers, only picked from the best of the best“ We know that this isnt true of course but the stormtroopers in this show miss a 2 meter guy standing one meter away from him. The Ghost Crew can be as skilled as they want, this is ridicolous.
It's not so much that they do beat the empire, but about how they do it. Rebels would've been significantly better if the Empire was actually competent in the show, and the rebels still managed to beat them from time to time. I still like the show, but because of the relationships between the Ghost crew, not because of how they beat the Empire.

Bro, Idk how you managed to take into consideration every episode's good and bad sides, and to rank them. As one big Rebels fan, I can't imagine how I can pull this off. Respect!
I have nostalgia for this series, I was 7 years old when the series first came out and I think the series is very good (my favorite season was the fourth)
next Round of applause for this man's commitment to ranking all episodes of an entire show! No, it's not a contradiction to his portrayal in the Clone Wars. People do change with time and experience. Anyway, he's still a con man, just a more mellowed out one. Fantastic video. I loved hearing all your thoughts on this masterpiece of a show Also, I’m gonna defend “Warhead” for a sec, and give my reason why it wasn’t filler. Thrawn sent out the probes to find the rebel base, and the droid encounters issues with the spiders. He’s found and brought into the base while AP-5 (all hail) puts him in charge of inventory. As soon as the droid discovers the base, the whole base is inevitably going to be discovered, which is crucial for the S3 finale. While they prevent Thrawn from immediately discovering the base’s location, inadvertently they help Thrawn narrow down a dangerously few planets where the base could be located. Also, the horror elements thrown in with the droid quickly destroying droids and looking disturbing, the banter between Zeb, Chopper, and AP-5 (all hail), and the tension of the warhead’s countdown and their discovery all make a really fun and long-term important episode 13:30 What ALWAYS bugged me about Warhead is that according to the Rebels Recon aftershow, it was originally intended to be about Zeb and REX teaming up, bonding over their experience as military leaders and dealing with grief, but then they decided to make it about Zeb and the droids going on a goofy adventure instead. It annoyed me because Zeb hadn’t had any meaningful character exploration since Legends of the Lasat in season 2 and they threw away an opportunity to have some for forgettable banter / bickering. I did love AP-5, though. WHAT??!! I loved Fight or Flight. The Melurun episode was super fun! Glad to see I’m not alone in thinking the ending of Rebels is one of the greatest things in Star Wars. It’s just unmatched in my opinion. The fact they had the balls to kill off one of the main characters, and have the other sacrifice himself was just insane. I would have never expected they would do that, and I was so happy they did It's fun seeing another person's takes on the series like this! Especially considering we both seemingly enjoy it for different things based on how I would rank the episodes differently Honestly, Stealth Strike is at near top of my list for the sole reason that Chopper is at his most psychotic. He nearly gets everyone killed including himself, and he's perfectly fine with it Rebels is so underrated, although the animation style takes some getting used to (but is not bad) the characters and story were beautifully executed. From the funny episodes to the heartbreaking ones, Rebels is one of the best Star Wars media ever made The dedication, man. Nice work Goldman. Love your content. Happy Rebels fans.🎉7:36 The republic base is on Abafar, which is where the Gregor episode happens in Clone wars season 5, I think it’s episode 13 of season 5 or something like that Ap5 singing In space one of the all time best droid moments There are 74 episodes of Star Wars Rebels… and I appreciate all of them😊To me, the episode "Dume" especially Ezra's scene was a way to tell Ezra that Kanan is not gone, but he is still present in another form. Like the wolf, and of course the memories of the rest of the Ghost crew. This is the best thing I've seen all week The only good thing I can say about Iron Squadron, is that Mart was voiced by the Wimpy Kid himself. Zachary Gordon. This has to be one of the best star wars related videos I have ever watched 👏You gotta give this man a medal just for dedication not for all his amazing content "Children of the Force" isn't the first time Palpatine has been behind the kidnapping of Force-sensitive children. He did so during the Clone Wars as well, but the plot was thwarted by Ahsoka (I can't remember if Anakin helped her on that one or not). While not a new concept, realizing that he was still stealing infants during the time of the Empire was a revelation to be sure. It didn't surprise very much that the Empire would identify older kids in the Academy and then "disappear" them, but going through the extra effort of kidnapping infants was a bit of a surprise. This video made me love Rebels even more (I already did love it). You explained some character moments (in depth) that I hadn’t realized The Gold Man is the greatest Jedi ever. He sacrifices his life to give us great content. Right up there with Star Wars Meg, MetaNerds, The Artorr, Generation Tech, and Star Wars Theory. LOVE IT! 33:07 I'm pretty sure that's the Clone Wars episode where Cad Bane kidnakps force sensitive babies. Future of the Force is the rebels one. Mind blowing levels of commitment to make this video. I love Rebels so much, its my Star Wars comfort show. And this vid was a great way of refreshing my memory on all the episodes Absolute legend for making a whole show ranking. Now for The Clone Wars! Also, I do have 1 criticism that I have to level at the show's best episode, which is that during the ending dialogue, Sabine says that the Empire never returned to Lothal. Even for a minor world, it's utterly ludicrous to say that an Empire built very heavily on its image ("Fear of force rather than force itself") wouldn't try to exact revenge for a humiliation like at the end of Rebels. A world killing the entire Imperial garrison of a planet and destroying 5 Star Destroyers (IIRC anyway) is the kind of news that would spark uprisings everywhere because it shatters the Empire's unbeatable image, especially on a minor world like Lothal. The Empire, almost certainly knowing the Jedi are dead (Kanan being confirmed killed and Ezra missing with Thrawn) shouldn't have any hesitation in sending a task force to bring Lothal into compliance. Yeah, they would be very very concerned (5 star destroyers and THRAWN is a major, major loss). However, there would be more than enough racist admirals to clamour for a revenge operation to prove that they could do what the alien couldn't (and get glory for themselves), and with the Empire cracking down on the Rebellion (Especially between and after ANH and ESB), Lothal would seem a prime target. It's a small thing, but it really bugged me that the rebel victory was so permanent, because the Empire as we know it would've sent another fleet of Star Destroyers to exact revenge and restore their image. Even if they had to wipe the capital city from the map via orbital bombardment, to drive home the messages that the Empire wants to send to its subjects - "Even if you get your independence, it will cost you everything" (or something similar). Jedi Night takes my number 1 and with another small detail on how Kanan gets his sight back right before he dies I personally really like Azmorigan because he is very stupid and I also really like AP-5 and his introduction is incredible. I personally would rank higher world between worlds not because Ahsoka is saved, though that is awesome, because I really like the message that Ezra gets and also the concept in itself is incredible and I'm glad we will see more of it in Ahsoka. When I watched Ahsoka Ep.1, I had no idea what was going on, so I started to watch Rebels, and I watched all 4 season in 3 weeks(kudos to myself) and I loved it, My number 1 fave episode is Jedi Night, followed closely by Kindered. This was so much fun to watch, and I agree that AP-5 is soooo underrated, and I think this is such a good ranking The honorable ones making top ten makes me so happy that’s literally my favorite episode of rebels It’s crazy how every season of rebels is so good Nicely done. I love Rebels its honestly my favorite piece of Star Wars content outside of the films. Honorable ones was definitely my favorite episode. The amount of character development for agent Kallus was incredible, and for Zeb as well. I think S2E5 is extremely underrated. It is probably the scariest episode of Rebels. The tension building up to the end is something I wasn’t expecting out of a Disney XD show. Sure, the inquisitors are incompetent but the sheer horror factor of the episode makes it a very memorable one for me.

Rewatching Clone Wars after Rebels, I had completely forgotten how much of a bad guy Hondo was. I still like to think he softened up a little bit as he aged and no longer had the responsibility of being a leader. A+ tier character imo
I personally love the "Zero Hour" Episodes mostly due to the fact we see Thrawn slowly widdle down where Chopper base is, and in the end Kallus is the one who gave him the final peice of the puzzle
Fighter flight was one of the best episodes, I know a lot of people hate it because its " a pointless filler episode about fruit" but it develops the characters a lot, it's actually a really funny episode, and it's one of the few episodes that is enjoyable on every rewatch because it's the quintessential season 1 episode.
You have pretty detailed list and i like it , Here are my top 5 favourite episodes (i can't rank all of them in a comment) 5 : Jedi Knight 4 : family reunion and farewell 3 : trough Imperial eyes 2 : Twilight of the apprentice ( both parts) 1 : Zero hour (both parts)
Jedi Night is my favorite episode. Although I am a little biased because Kanan is my favorite character, I felt like it was the perfect way for him to go out. I really felt like his sacrifice was the culmination of everything he had done, and when he regains his vision will never fail to destroy me mentally.

To be fair they had no choice bc in the OT luke is the last jedi so they had to get rid of ezra and kanan somehow Awesome show tho (but no balls bc they brought ahsoka back)
It's fun seeing another person's takes on the series like this! Especially considering we both seemingly enjoy it for different things based on how I would rank the episodes differently
01:01:51 Ezra is actually 2 days older than Luke and Leia, they were born 2 days after Empire Day. RotS doesn't do a great job of conveying the passage of time there
@kadegetslaid634 sorry for replying to a year-old comment lol but yeah! Pablo confirms the timeline of events in his Rebels Recon segment for the Empire Day episode.
Rebels is so underrated, although the animation style takes some getting used to (but is not bad) the characters and story were beautifully executed. From the funny episodes to the heartbreaking ones, Rebels is one of the best Star Wars media ever made
For me, what makes Ezra’s Parents’ deaths hit more was that they were alive up to the midpoint of the episode and that Tseebo knew of their whereabouts but Ezra rejected the information. If He had listened to Tseebo, they might’ve had a chance to rescue them. I understood why Ezra didn’t want to know the truth, but i think he should’ve just for closure.
Honestly, Stealth Strike is at near top of my list for the sole reason that Chopper is at his most psychotic. He nearly gets everyone killed including himself, and he's perfectly fine with it
i love how in that episode ezra tells the stormtroopers he wont kill them when he breaks out and then in the end chopper fucking blows the ship up entirely.
@@DaveyTheDuck Ezra might not hurt them, but Chopper certainly will. I love how he almost kills Ezra three times in the span of a few seconds. First, he turns the gravity on when Ezea begs him not to, almost dropping him to his death. Luckily, he lands on the catwalk, but almost snaps his neck in doing so because Chopper drops him on his head. Then he's dangling from the ledge, Chopper runs over his fingers

I was gonna heavily disagree with putting the AP5 episode above Twin suns, until you mentioned how it made you cry. I completely agree. I remember when it first came out I was balling like a baby when he “died.” Dave is so good at giving characters good development in short amounts of time
So much that could be said when the entire series is reviewed, so I'll just make 3 points: 1. It is important to remember when Rebels aired, season 7 of Clone Wars did not exist yet. The last time we saw Ahsoka was when she left the Jedi order in season 5, well before order 66 and Anakins fall. And the last time we had seen Bo Katan was the Season 5 double episode when she was still part of Death Watch and took part in Mauls taking of Mandalore, who subsequently murdered her mentor Pre Vizla and taking the Mandalorian throne for himself. Maul then murdered Bo Katan's sister in front of her and Obi wan. I also think this was the last time was had seen the dark saber. 2. Watching this made me realise Homecoming and In the Name of the Rebellion Part 1 are the inverse of each other. In each, one party wants to capture/infiltrate an imperial asset for the greater good, while the other party wants it destroyed to send a message. Both with different outcomes. 3. That even a verbal description of "Dume" is enough to still make me tear up.
Technically season 7 existed. It was already written, apart from the martez sisters arc (that one was by disney), and we would have gotten the exact same 8 episodes, only less disneyfied.
To me, the episode "Dume" especially Ezra's scene was a way to tell Ezra that Kanan is not gone, but he is still present in another form. Like the wolf, and of course the memories of the rest of the Ghost crew.
Im sorry but Thrawns opening lines after they steal the y-wings as someone who hadnt heard of him before(i have since read every book with thrawn in) gave me chills and hyped me up so much to see more of him. Every scene with him is great.
"Children of the Force" isn't the first time Palpatine has been behind the kidnapping of Force-sensitive children. He did so during the Clone Wars as well, but the plot was thwarted by Ahsoka (I can't remember if Anakin helped her on that one or not). It didn't surprise very much that the Empire would identify older kids in the Academy and then "disappear" them, but going through the extra effort of kidnapping infants was a bit of a surprise.
Eyy man the effort will not go unnoticed great job man honestly all of your videos always make me learn something new I previously didnt know that was going on in a scene as a deeper meaning thank you man and well done on this video 👍
9:18 this episode introduces the Interdictor Cruiser, which, in Legends, is something that was brought to the Chiss and presumably the Empire by Thrawn. It develops Kanan and Rex, as well as introducing the key point of the Finale of S3

I just thought a word between worlds was cool because new lore kinda time travrl i liked the new aspect of the force (and palpatine wanting to find it)
The Gold Man is the greatest Jedi ever. He sacrifices his life to give us great content. Right up there with Star Wars Meg, MetaNerds, The Artorr, Generation Tech, and Star Wars Theory. LOVE IT!
3:37 I think it's a very important episode. Obviously the character development but the incompetence of the Empire at that time! There's no need for intense patrols when they know very little of a threat. I think it's an accurate display of why Thrawn was needed to be brought in. Lothal didn't have a powerful figurehead at first so there's definitely no reason they shouldn't be shown in that state. Hell, I too would go on a journey like this for a hella good fruit, especially if getting to let fascists know their place was involved lmao 1:13:34 honestly my favourite episode because you see in real time Kallus learning how fascism works, how it's cold and cannibalistic. And being stranded on a cold moon but then seeing your supposed enemies take care of each other, and so excitedly. Also that's probably one of the first REAL gifts anybody has ever given him. And the yellow from the rock, it's warm and yellow in spiritual contexts is also interesting, yellow can symbolize: intellect, creativity, optimism, friendliness and the power of persuasion. So seeing the last shot, him sitting in all boxxy gray a glowing yellow rocks, that's given him the warmth he never know he needed. I agree, his redemption is one of favourites I've ever seen and definitely a favourite character of mine. Really well done!
Totally agree about the last shot of The Honorable Ones. It's like that stone is the one tiny bit of color and light in his otherwise grey and desolate room.
Props to you for ranking all the episodes! I haven’t been able to do that, but I can give you my top 10: 10. The Last Battle 9. Path of the Jedi 8. Stealth Strike 7. An Inside Man 6. Family Reunion-and Farewell 5. Fire across the Galaxy 4. Trials of the Darksaber 3. Twin Suns 2. A World between Worlds 1. Twilight of the Apprentice
I'm glad someone is finally giving AP-5 the attention he deserves. He's like a less apathetic Squidward of star wars and I love him so much. By far one of the most underrated droids in canon star wars, along with K-2SO and L3-37.
I wasn't originally going to subscribe, but watching this, and seeing your passion for star wars and other franchises, I'm most certainly going to. You're starting off small now, but I can see a lot of growth in soon time
For me probably best and worst aspects of Rebels are these: +Expands on Star Wars (ex. Introduces the inquisitors which we see in Jedi Fallen Order and the Obi Wan show, tells us what happens to The Clone Wars characters such as Ahsoka, Maul, and Rex, introduces the interdictor cruiser, gives us great characters like Kanan who is one of my favorite jedi, perfectly shows Ahsoka's discovery and confrontation with Vader, introducing AP5 who is one of the funniest characters in Star Wars, etc.) +Banger season finales +Introduced me to Thrawn for the first time which made me check out the canon Thrawn trilogy of books +Great use of animation with using water color, hyperspace colors, the scene with the Loth wolves teleporting the crew, the A World Between Worlds episode, etc. +Deep character writing like with Sabine confronting her past and Ezra's character growth -The background at times looks like it was just drawn by someone (ex. Buttons on the walls of the Ghost don't look like actual buttons or when Kanan fights the temple guards the drawers don't look like actual drawers, etc.) -The Empire isn't intimidating in this show when it comes to the stormtroopers and Gar Saxon who loses to Sabine easily -The Ghost crew and the good guys have thick plot armor (ex. The Ghost's shields are so powerful they can withstand multiple hits from light cruisers and TIE carriers while the Ghost can quickly destroy a TIE carrier in seconds or when getting shot at by a TIE fighter the shots that come near or directly at anyone become blaster shots) -The action isn't big in scale for a lot of the show, aside from the Battle of Atollon (I get the Rebellion is much smaller compared to the Republic but I wish there were bigger fights more often) -A lot of the episodes in a season being stand alone episodes can make the season feel inconsistent Overall I would give this show a rating between a B and an A-.
What I like the most about Rebels is Thrawn. I like Thrawn for his intelligence and ability to predict and read the mind of his enemies. He literally was almost able to destroy the entire rebel cell under the command of Sato. This shows how much intelligent Thrawn is. Thrawn also predicted Sato's move, but Constantine ignored Thrawn for personal glory.
I object. In the Tie Defender episode the rebels stole one, flying towards him and are shooting at him. He does nothing, then pulls out his tiny pistol firing at it. He knows that there is a kill switch, but refuses to use it as he wants to see a combat test. During this test, the rebels destroy a significang amount of ships and kill a lot of his men. And because of his decision, the rebels could steal the ship and use the data from its computer. If he just used the kill switch, his men were still alive, ships still intact and the rebels would have probably died or could be captured. He was a complete idiot here and there are more cases like this.
@@GreenNinj4 True, but he did use the kill switch eventually, which I will assume that you already know. Thrawn does have a point though, with that incident, he can see the test live, but yeah he wasted all those pilots and all those TIE fighters. Although the TIEs are cheap and the pilots expendable, he still wasted those resources. But I'm pretty sure he is aware that they were expendables. The Empire prefers quantities over qualities, so in most space and aerial combat, a lot of imperial pilots were killed.
@@chalkyumKC True, but in the EU at least, Thrawn had two traits that seperated him from other imperials. He valued the life of the men serving him and it was important to him to not waste them and he was not arrogant. He would retreat if the enemy had the upper hand or if the victory would cost too many of his men. The Thrawn in this episode had neither of them, he was arrogant and unnecessarily wasted his resources. Thats why, at least to me, the EU version remains superior.
I really love the appreciation you gave for some relatively underrated episodes. Heroes of Mandalore, especially the second part, as well as Zero Hour are some highlights of the entire series for me, so it's nice to see them get the love they deserve. Heroes of Mandalore is a superb finale to Sabine's story arc with the darksaber, even if it didn't hit the same highs as Trials of the Darksaber and Legacy of Mandalore (however, Sabine is my favorite character, so I'm kind of biased lol). As for Zero Hour, I think it is one of the best season finales of any Star Wars series. I do have to completely disagree with your opinions on Hondo. The way I see it, Hondo's interactions with characters in The Clone Wars helped him "grow a heart," so he's still a slimy con-man but he is much more mellowed out than in CW. Generally, he is one of my favorite characters in the show, (which lowkey bums me out because his appearances often coincide with Azmorigan, who I despise). Here are my own top 5 episodes: 5 - A World Between Worlds 4 - Jedi Night 3 - Zero Hour (imma cheat and put the whole 2-parter here) 2 - Trials of the Darksaber 1 - Family Reunion and Farewell
My favorite thing about Thrawn is that he actually feels like an adequate threat. While the Inquisitiors (minus the Grand one) felt like obstacles, and Vader felt like a boss fight you're supposed to lose in a video game, Thrawn was an actual threat that was consistent in his appearances. You always felt like the Rebels were on the backfoot, amd they usually WERE. They'd achieve minor victories against Thrawn, usually due to some overconfident Imperial officer being stupid, but for the most part he was consistently on top. They didn't even really WIN against him in the finale either, Ezra having to essentially sacrifice himself to just.. move Thrawn an insane distance away. Edit: I massively on the opinion of Filoni's changes to the force lore. It makes feel less like a static thing that the Jedi and Sith make it feel like at times and into something that every being can channel, amd channel differently, teaching others along the way. The Lothwolves use it to get around the planet and survive, humanoids use it to move things they otherwise couldn't, or manipulate minds. The force is constantly described as almost alove and Filoni really makes it feel like that
It wasn't necessarily plot armor that Vader threw Kanan instead of slicing him in half. Vader's goal was never to kill the Ghost crew. His goal was to maneuver them into stealing a specific shuttle and then make their escape so desperate that they wouldn't notice the tracking beacon he had put on the shuttle. Since his target was the larger rebel fleet, he wasn't concerned with killing what at the time were just 2 wannabe Jedi.
Y'know, we never see the city or town on Lothal during the night, only in non-populated areas like savanas. Seeing the town in the night for the first time to me is an indication or a way to tell viewers that Lothal is very different than what it used to be, it has changed in a dark or bad way.
46:52 You can’t just ignore the execution scene! It was something very un-cartoon like. They were killed in a very direct manner, and the S1 animation still does a great job at portraying the way he rules through scare tactics.
@@thegoldman25even though it would take you a month, I’d love to see that one day! This video was stellar and I was hoping you had done a list like this for clone wars. I almost agree with your take on the finale of Rebels, but Victory and Death stands atop for me. The Rebels finale felt very heartfelt and extremely tasteful and gave a nice epilogue to everyone, but I love the feeling of utter defeat and tragedy that Victory and Death gives. It hammers home the feeling that there is no winner to the Clone Wars. It’s also why I love the Kalani episode in Rebels so much too :)

Honestly I pretty much agree with every ranking but for me any episode with featuring Captain Rex would be higher cause he is my GOAT. So many great things in the finale that you didn't get to mention like Gregor's death, a very low key moment overall that always gets me emotional because the clones got the chance to choose to fight for something they believed in. Rebels is a show I have gained a lot more love and appreciation for over the years since I watched the finale. Also seeing Rex's reaction when Ezra and Kanan return without Ashoka is so sad. Seeing Rex's PTSD is also very interesting in The Last Battle is a good touch as he really only seemed to talk more fondly of the War in previous episodes. Would love to see a video like this for the Clone Wars.
Great video, such a ranking looks intimidating to do, well done! My personal favourite is Through Imperial Eyes, I love the premise of a mystery story, where the reveal is already known for the viewer, and it‘s the villain who has to solve this puzzle, making us not exactly root for Thrawn, but we want to see the story progressing because they presented it in such an intriguing manner. Not sure if this is the best comparison, but the same feeling made me kind of root for Sabine to go with Baylan; we know it shoudn‘t be right, but it feels like it is a little. Imo, this is the type of Thrawn closest to the old Thrawn trilogy
Oh, and Trials of the Darksaber is a classic already. Incredible how well it aged with all the live-action content, and it‘s epic so see how well the were able to integrate those hints about Mandalorian Lore into Mando. Sabine is soooo awesome in this
My favorite episode? S3:E18, Secret Cargo. The formation of the Rebellion at the end gave me chills just thinking about the scene when you got to the episode. Also, Mon Mothma is my version of your AP-5. She is my favorite character in the whole sage, possibly ever, which I understand how absurd for a side character as small as her it is. I have a real soft spot for all the politics, so that certainly pays into it as well. I'm excited to see if she gets any conclusions in Ahsoka and I'm excited to see what Andor S2 does with her. In that same vein, the In The Name of the Rebellion two-parter is my favorite of all the two-parters. Seeing Mothma's philosophy on full display, and then the same with Saw, it's beautful.
Might I add, I love the stuctural decisions of S4, wrapping up the Sabine and Death Star storylines, and managing to fit in so many other important character moments, before bringing the focus back to Lothal, it feels so right.
In a way Ezra is older by two days, empire day was in that scene where Bale was summoned to the senate building and Padme had the rebellion looking symbol on her head
I have to say the season 1 finale that low is a crime. it has arguably the best lightsaber fight because throughout you can tell that kanan is worried about Ezra. at the beginning Kanan rushes and begins at the offensive, even though he has lost every fight with the inquisitor, to keep Ezra away from the conflict becuase he is left defenseless. and you can see kanan struggle with not being a fully trained jedi becuase the inquisitor is just showing off. especially kanan facing every fear he had in the season with that beginning rush is wonderful, becuase abov all else he wants to protect Ezra, which gets added on when kanan gets knighted at the temple by the grand inquisitor, I feel like it ties in to the other more important episodes more than any other episode. and it also shows contrast between obi wan and kanan. obi wan fights maul with after qui gon dies with hatred, and anger, only winning after he realizes his mistake. kanan immediatly lets go and keeps his balance, eventually making the grand inquisitor lose his balance, leading to his defeat. there can be so much more said with the episode, but it deserves better, at least top 15-20
I honestly thought I was the only person who liked AP5, it’s nice to know others like droid spuidward, I was very worried that he would be a character that shows up for a single episode like Lando or Leia, but it was nice to see him become a recurring character, him and chopper are some of my favourite star wars
Okay, I will say that Visions of Hope had some serious issues, but the Senator’s betrayal isn’t forgotten about; it’s actually the inciting incident for the broadcast in Call to Action. Without Trayvis, Kanan wouldn’t have had the idea to do the broadcast to combat his misinformation, which would mean that Kanan was never captured, the rescue was never attempted, etc., and it certainly would’ve meant that the Phoenix Squadron wouldn’t have coalesced into an organized fighting force. Say what you will about the episode, but it definitely wasn’t a throwaway episode.
I like, nay, love Fighter Flight for one reason, that is, I’m a massive sucker for “overleveled” characters on “fetch quests” causing mayhem. If two characters go shopping, I want them to leave the supermarket in flames, purely because they can’t come up with a normal and rational way to get them.
Damn all these episodes sound like commercials "blank is captured the ghost crew needs to rescue them" great video though you got me to come around after seeing a few episodes on disney xd and just rewatching the clone wars
Round of applause for this man's commitment to ranking all episodes of an entire show!
It was certainly tedious so I appreciate the comment

No, it's not a contradiction to his portrayal in the Clone Wars.

I love that you gave Zero Hour the credit it deserves. A lot of fans have those two episodes really low, but I love them so much. A great list!
It's so good!
Literally my most rewatched part of rebels, zero hour is the goat
Honestly I think Zero Hour is generally BETTER than Twilight of the Apprentice, in part because it doesn't rely so heavily on returning characters. Like, yeah, Twilight of the Apprentice is good, but it's mainly because of Maul, Ahsoka, and Vader. Zero Hour really gives the Rebels-original characters a chance to shine, as well as paints the Empire as the ruthless and cunning villain it's intended to be.
(imdb scores obviously aren't everything, but it always makes me a bit sad to see that Zero hour is the lowest rated by a decent bit)
My favourite episodes in the show
Ye this is my fave finale
I always took Hondo's change in personality as a result of the time that had passed since CW. He lost his crew and likely went through a number of humbling experiences because of the Empire. Maybe by that point he started to have life regrets, like wishing he had had a kid, so Ezra starts to become a surrogate child to him. Was he bad in Clone Wars? Yes, but assuming he can't have changed at least somewhat for the better is like assuming that Anakin was incapable of becoming Vader or that Vader couldn't have been redeemed. People do change with time and experience. Anyway, he's still a con man, just a more mellowed out one.
fair point

i agree
I still think there was a missed opportunity to make the seventh sister Barris and a interesting rival with Ashoka. She even looks like her and has a valid excuse to become an inquisitor, especially since she would have caught Palpatine’s attention at her trial

Rebels always stood in Clone Wars' shadows thanks to the cancellation, but looking at it alone its quite solid I would say
Heck we got incredible scenes such as Mauls last encounter with Kenobi and Thrawn is just great to see back in action
@@hint1k invalid
@@hint1k both shows are great but cw is clearly better, easily
@@GreenNinj4thrawn is poorly written? Vader is shit? The only thing that villain bad is the empire losing, which is the point of the show, that empire is not invisible like people thought
A note on #72 Fighter Flight. I totally get it, it's dumb, its childish. But there is something about it that makes me love it so much! I think it has to do with the storm trooper that goes something like, "Wait, you did all this. For fruit?!" Legit makes me laugh every time! XD
Fair points!

Also, I’m gonna defend “Warhead” for a sec, and give my reason why it wasn’t filler. Also, the horror elements thrown in with the droid quickly destroying droids and looking disturbing, the banter between Zeb, Chopper, and AP-5 (all hail), and the tension of the warhead’s countdown and their discovery all make a really fun and long-term important episode
13:30 What ALWAYS bugged me about Warhead is that according to the Rebels Recon aftershow, it was originally intended to be about Zeb and REX teaming up, bonding over their experience as military leaders and dealing with grief, but then they decided to make it about Zeb and the droids going on a goofy adventure instead. "Children of the Force" isn't the first time Palpatine has been behind the kidnapping of Force-sensitive children. He did so during the Clone Wars as well, but the plot was thwarted by Ahsoka (I can't remember if Anakin helped her on that one or not). It annoyed me because Zeb hadn’t had any meaningful character exploration since Legends of the Lasat in season 2 and they threw away an opportunity to have some for forgettable banter / bickering. I did love AP-5, though.
Rewatching Clone Wars after Rebels, I had completely forgotten how much of a bad guy Hondo was. I still like to think he softened up a little bit as he aged and no longer had the responsibility of being a leader. A+ tier character imo
WHAT??!! I loved Fight or Flight. The Melurun episode was super fun!
lol glad you loved it
@@thegoldman25 it was the episode that actually go me hooked to rebels. Haha, but I have weird taste
SAME IT WAS SO FUNNY
The one thing I do love from that episode is that one Stormtrooper being baffled by the fact that everything thats happening is all over fruit.
I personally love the "Zero Hour" Episodes mostly due to the fact we see Thrawn slowly widdle down where Chopper base is, and in the end Kallus is the one who gave him the final peice of the puzzle
Underrated show
agreed?
No
Fighter flight was one of the best episodes, I know a lot of people hate it because its " a pointless filler episode about fruit" but it develops the characters a lot, it's actually a really funny episode, and it's one of the few episodes that is enjoyable on every rewatch because it's the quintessential season 1 episode.
I quite enjoy it tbh, it’s just I enjoy 70 other episodes more
The Forgotten droid is so good, you're not the only one to think so.
S Tier rebels
You have pretty detailed list and i like it ,
Here are my top 5 favourite episodes (i can't rank all of them in a comment)
5 : Jedi Knight
4 : family reunion and farewell
3 : trough Imperial eyes
2 : Twilight of the apprentice ( both parts)
1 : Zero hour (both parts)
not a terrible list
Jedi Night is my favorite episode. Although I am a little biased because Kanan is my favorite character, I felt like it was the perfect way for him to go out. I really felt like his sacrifice was the culmination of everything he had done, and when he regains his vision will never fail to destroy me mentally.
Through imperial eyes is so underrated and such a polished episode
Glad to see I’m not alone in thinking the ending of Rebels is one of the greatest things in Star Wars. It’s just unmatched in my opinion.
The fact they had the balls to kill off one of the main characters, and have the other sacrifice himself was just insane. I would have never expected they would do that, and I was so happy they did
To be fair they had no choice bc in the OT luke is the last jedi so they had to get rid of ezra and kanan somehow
Awesome show tho (but no balls bc they brought ahsoka back)
The dedication, man. Nice work Goldman. Love your content. Happy Rebels fans.🎉
Thank you!
It's fun seeing another person's takes on the series like this! Especially considering we both seemingly enjoy it for different things based on how I would rank the episodes differently
As long as we are both rebels fans!
There are 74 episodes of Star Wars Rebels… and I appreciate all of them😊
01:01:51 Ezra is actually 2 days older than Luke and Leia, they were born 2 days after Empire Day. RotS doesn't do a great job of conveying the passage of time there
They were? I was under the impression they were born the day of
@kadegetslaid634 sorry for replying to a year-old comment lol but yeah! Pablo confirms the timeline of events in his Rebels Recon segment for the Empire Day episode.
Rebels is so underrated, although the animation style takes some getting used to (but is not bad) the characters and story were beautifully executed. From the funny episodes to the heartbreaking ones, Rebels is one of the best Star Wars media ever made
Fantastic list for a wonderful show! Your videos are amazing, thank you for this one!
My pleasure! Thank you for giving it a watch meg!
ITS STAR WARS MEG!!! HUTINI!
Ap5 singing In space one of the all time best droid moments
For me, what makes Ezra’s Parents’ deaths hit more was that they were alive up to the midpoint of the episode and that Tseebo knew of their whereabouts but Ezra rejected the information. If He had listened to Tseebo, they might’ve had a chance to rescue them. I understood why Ezra didn’t want to know the truth, but i think he should’ve just for closure.
This video made me love Rebels even more (I already did love it). You explained some character moments (in depth) that I hadn’t realized
Pretty sure he would either be best friends with saw gerrera or his worst nightmare no in between
Mind blowing levels of commitment to make this video. I love Rebels so much, its my Star Wars comfort show. And this vid was a great way of refreshing my memory on all the episodes
7:36
The republic base is on Abafar, which is where the Gregor episode happens in Clone wars season 5, I think it’s episode 13 of season 5 or something like that
33:07 I'm pretty sure that's the Clone Wars episode where Cad Bane kidnakps force sensitive babies. Future of the Force is the rebels one.
Absolute legend for making a whole show ranking.
The only good thing I can say about Iron Squadron, is that Mart was voiced by the Wimpy Kid himself. Zachary Gordon.
I was gonna heavily disagree with putting the AP5 episode above Twin suns, until you mentioned how it made you cry. I completely agree. I remember when it first came out I was balling like a baby when he “died.” Dave is so good at giving characters good development in short amounts of time
So much that could be said when the entire series is reviewed, so I'll just make 3 points:
This has to be one of the best star wars related videos I have ever watched 👏
To me, the episode "Dume" especially Ezra's scene was a way to tell Ezra that Kanan is not gone, but he is still present in another form. Like the wolf, and of course the memories of the rest of the Ghost crew.
Im sorry but Thrawns opening lines after they steal the y-wings as someone who hadnt heard of him before(i have since read every book with thrawn in) gave me chills and hyped me up so much to see more of him. Every scene with him is great.
Jedi Night takes my number 1 and with another small detail on how Kanan gets his sight back right before he dies
You gotta give this man a medal just for dedication not for all his amazing content
Thank you!!!!
"Children of the Force" isn't the first time Palpatine has been behind the kidnapping of Force-sensitive children. He did so during the Clone Wars as well, but the plot was thwarted by Ahsoka (I can't remember if Anakin helped her on that one or not). While not a new concept, realizing that he was still stealing infants during the time of the Empire was a revelation to be sure. It didn't surprise very much that the Empire would identify older kids in the Academy and then "disappear" them, but going through the extra effort of kidnapping infants was a bit of a surprise.
Eyy man the effort will not go unnoticed great job man honestly all of your videos always make me learn something new I previously didnt know that was going on in a scene as a deeper meaning thank you man and well done on this video 👍
This is the best thing I've seen all week
Your videos are something else! Blows my mind that you don’t have more subscribers.
Glad you like them! I’ll get to where I want to be with Subs soon enough
Zero Hour is some of my favorite episodes of Rebels, and one of my favorite space battles in Star Wars to date.
9:18 this episode introduces the Interdictor Cruiser, which, in Legends, is something that was brought to the Chiss and presumably the Empire by Thrawn. It develops Kanan and Rex, as well as introducing the key point of the Finale of S3
When I watched Ahsoka Ep.1, I had no idea what was going on, so I started to watch Rebels, and I watched all 4 season in 3 weeks(kudos to myself) and I loved it, My number 1 fave episode is Jedi Night, followed closely by Kindered. This was so much fun to watch, and I agree that AP-5 is soooo underrated, and I think this is such a good ranking
I personally really like Azmorigan because he is very stupid and I also really like AP-5 and his introduction is incredible.
I personally would rank higher world between worlds not because Ahsoka is saved, though that is awesome, because I really like the message that Ezra gets and also the concept in itself is incredible and I'm glad we will see more of it in Ahsoka.
it's still a solid episode!
I just thought a word between worlds was cool because new lore kinda time travrl i liked the new aspect of the force (and palpatine wanting to find it)
Nicely done. I love Rebels its honestly my favorite piece of Star Wars content outside of the films.
The Gold Man is the greatest Jedi ever. He sacrifices his life to give us great content. Right up there with Star Wars Meg, MetaNerds, The Artorr, Generation Tech, and Star Wars Theory. LOVE IT!
100% agreed, up there with the best
3:37 I think it's a very important episode. Obviously the character development but the incompetence of the Empire at that time!
There's no need for intense patrols when they know very little of a threat. I think it's an accurate display of why Thrawn was needed to be brought in. Lothal didn't have a powerful figurehead at first so there's definitely no reason they shouldn't be shown in that state.
Hell, I too would go on a journey like this for a hella good fruit, especially if getting to let fascists know their place was involved lmao
1:13:34 honestly my favourite episode because you see in real time Kallus learning how fascism works, how it's cold and cannibalistic.
I haven’t been able to do that, but I can give you my top 10:
10. The Last Battle
9. Path of the Jedi
8. Stealth Strike
7. An Inside Man
6. Family Reunion-and Farewell
5. Fire across the Galaxy
4. Trials of the Darksaber
3. Twin Suns
2. A World between Worlds
1. Twilight of the Apprentice
not a terrible list
I'm glad someone is finally giving AP-5 the attention he deserves. He's like a less apathetic Squidward of star wars and I love him so much. By far one of the most underrated droids in canon star wars, along with K-2SO and L3-37.
The honorable ones making top ten makes me so happy that’s literally my favorite episode of rebels
Ashoka vs Vader was so great, s2 Ahsoka was really hunted knowing what her master had turned into.
Absolutely stellar video all props to u man. I love what u said about the Battle of Attalon. Also are u planning on doing this for Clone Wars?
Thank you! Since clone wars is more than twice the length, it would be a very challenging video. I will never say no but not soon
Love your content, Gold man! Can’t imagine how long this took….
Thanks a ton! It took a lot :)
I fell like The mystery of Chopper Base and the Atollon spiders took alot of inspiration for Half-life 2 and the Antlions.
Anyone else thin the same?
I wasn't originally going to subscribe, but watching this, and seeing your passion for star wars and other franchises, I'm most certainly going to. You're starting off small now, but I can see a lot of growth in soon time
Honorable ones was definitely my favorite episode. The amount of character development for agent Kallus was incredible, and for Zeb as well.
For me probably best and worst aspects of Rebels are these:
+Expands on Star Wars (ex. Introduces the inquisitors which we see in Jedi Fallen Order and the Obi Wan show, tells us what happens to The Clone Wars characters such as Ahsoka, Maul, and Rex, introduces the interdictor cruiser, gives us great characters like Kanan who is one of my favorite jedi, perfectly shows Ahsoka's discovery and confrontation with Vader, introducing AP5 who is one of the funniest characters in Star Wars, etc.)
+Banger season finales
+Introduced me to Thrawn for the first time which made me check out the canon Thrawn trilogy of books
+Great use of animation with using water color, hyperspace colors, the scene with the Loth wolves teleporting the crew, the A World Between Worlds episode, etc.
+Deep character writing like with Sabine confronting her past and Ezra's character growth
-The background at times looks like it was just drawn by someone (ex. Buttons on the walls of the Ghost don't look like actual buttons or when Kanan fights the temple guards the drawers don't look like actual drawers, etc.)
-The Empire isn't intimidating in this show when it comes to the stormtroopers and Gar Saxon who loses to Sabine easily
-The Ghost crew and the good guys have thick plot armor (ex. The Ghost's shields are so powerful they can withstand multiple hits from light cruisers and TIE carriers while the Ghost can quickly destroy a TIE carrier in seconds or when getting shot at by a TIE fighter the shots that come near or directly at anyone become blaster shots)
-The action isn't big in scale for a lot of the show, aside from the Battle of Atollon (I get the Rebellion is much smaller compared to the Republic but I wish there were bigger fights more often)
-A lot of the episodes in a season being stand alone episodes can make the season feel inconsistent
Overall I would give this show a rating between a B and an A-.
Very fair points made for both, thanks for watching!
@@thegoldman25 Thank you.
It’s crazy how every season of rebels is so good
STAR WARS Rebels and Avatar The Last Airbender wouldn't like at the beginning but aged like Fine Wine ❤
honestly ur top 5 makes complete sense! your top 3 was also perfect
Here are my own top 5 episodes:
5 - A World Between Worlds
4 - Jedi Night
3 - Zero Hour (imma cheat and put the whole 2-parter here)
2 - Trials of the Darksaber
1 - Family Reunion and Farewell
The force is constantly described as almost alove and Filoni really makes it feel like that
I do agree with you on the top 5, 10, and 20. Well done.
I think the scene would have been better if exra force pushed kanan out of vader’s hands
Does this man dare rank all the clone wars episodes?
This is an awesome ranking. You should rank The Clone Wars Episodes next.
that video would take me a whole month to make, i cant imagine doing that right now hahahah

I appreciate you taking the time to write your own rankings, must've taken a while!
A great, detailed and very enjoyable ranking! Most of my favourite episodes are in your top 10 👍
Thank you for watching!
Iron squadron: we’ve been fighting the empire for so long but didn’t realize how incredibly outgunned we were until the cameras showed up 🤣🤣🤣
hahahahahaha
Episode stealth strike is actually very important because the interdictor is very deadly during zero hour
In a way Ezra is older by two days, empire day was in that scene where Bale was summoned to the senate building and Padme had the rebellion looking symbol on her head
Hondo was the best part of the show for me
I have to say the season 1 finale that low is a crime. it has arguably the best lightsaber fight because throughout you can tell that kanan is worried about Ezra. at the beginning Kanan rushes and begins at the offensive, even though he has lost every fight with the inquisitor, to keep Ezra away from the conflict becuase he is left defenseless. and you can see kanan struggle with not being a fully trained jedi becuase the inquisitor is just showing off. especially kanan facing every fear he had in the season with that beginning rush is wonderful, becuase abov all else he wants to protect Ezra, which gets added on when kanan gets knighted at the temple by the grand inquisitor, I feel like it ties in to the other more important episodes more than any other episode. and it also shows contrast between obi wan and kanan. obi wan fights maul with after qui gon dies with hatred, and anger, only winning after he realizes his mistake. kanan immediatly lets go and keeps his balance, eventually making the grand inquisitor lose his balance, leading to his defeat. there can be so much more said with the episode, but it deserves better, at least top 15-20
Rebels is sooo good!! 2nd favorite show imo
whats 1?
@@thegoldman25 cobra Kai. But barely
Glad to see more love for AP-5.
Really awesome video, do you plan on doing the same with every clone wars episode as well ?
I honestly thought I was the only person who liked AP5, it’s nice to know others like droid spuidward, I was very worried that he would be a character that shows up for a single episode like Lando or Leia, but it was nice to see him become a recurring character, him and chopper are some of my favourite star wars
No, you ain’t him
No, you ain't him
@@sophieprime4669 Oh crap I replied to the wrong comment

Rebels is so underrated but compared to Clone Wars this is just as good as the clone wars droid fight
Rebels is better than clone wars!
Umbara arc on clone wars is better than the entirety of Rebels
Good luck with the inevitable Clone Wars ranking that you have now forced yourself into
I love Rebels! Whilst The Clone Wars is best, the story Rebels told had weight, growth and beautiful arcs.
So lovely!
Rebels is awesome!
using this as my new watch order next rewatch
Damn all these episodes sound like commercials "blank is captured the ghost crew needs to rescue them" great video though you got me to come around after seeing a few episodes on disney xd and just rewatching the clone wars
