It's wild to think we spent 7 seasons with these characters only for everything to end with... Nothing. All that war. All the adventures. All the characters. All for a man to continue his plans and... No one wins. Separatists lose. The Republic loses. All for nothing.
Well, ultimately that IS the message - that war is a tragedy and the there are no winners, besides those in the highest of places who gain power from it - we are just fighting amongst ourselves by arbitrary distinctions and for no real reason.
34:50 actually I think Jesse is trying really hard here to fight the chip here, just like Rex did when he hesitated to shoot Ahsoka. When Rex makes his argument, Jesse lowers his guns and thinks to himself, but just as fast brings them back up, and accuses Rex of treason. I really do think Jesse was trying to stop himself but the chip was just too strong, which just adds even more to the heartbreak
can never forget jesse's helmet being on a spike. almost like they had the republic symbol being on his helmet since the beginning for that very scene to show the death of the republic
One thing I you missed was the weight of Jesse in particular. While he hasn't had as much screen time as Rex, he's been around since the early days of the show, at least as far back as the episode Rex gets injured by a sniper. We've seen Rex change over time but for those who remember, Jesse is a part of the more fun early days of the show, and now he is in command of the darkest and most dreadful battle the series will ever see.
This arc is one of, if not, the greatest piece of Star Wars content ever made. The amount of love and effort put into ending a story and show I grew up with was done perfectly and it never fails to make me happy and give me goosebumps. It is my favorite ending to a TV show by far (I haven't watched a lot of TV shows, so this may change).
@@thegoldman25 I am sorry but I don't see how. I mean have you compared to other stories? Many stories were written better, than this. This season 7 was just about "every jedi even Yoda and Obi-Wan are trash, except Ahsoka, because Ahsoka is perfect." The way as Ahsoka was playing with Maul was ridiculous. Maul never seem weaker than this. And this was not good. Shortly the was like this: Ahsoka chased Maul, then capture him. Then Ahsoka release Maul so she could chase him again!!! This was so dumb, I cant find the words. And remember when Ahsoka had that argument wiht Obi-Wan. "You gonna abandon BO Katan and her people" Ashoka suggested that Obi -Wan doesn't want to stop Maul, his archenemy, and he doesn't want to free his former love, Satin's planet from Maul. Once again: This was so dumb, that I can't find the words. 😒
@@balazsillyes7639 i’m not gonna waste my time dissecting your entire essay here, but i do want to point out one particular thing. maul being “weak” in this arc is just ignorant. if you truly think that then you must have just watched the show in the background while doing something else instead of actually taking in the story. maul is incredibly powerful, maybe one of the most powerful force users in established canon. but he has one huge flaw in his personality that proves to be his downfall consistently. his arrogance is what prevents him from accomplishing his goals, and in typical narcissistic fashion he doesn’t learn from it. phantom menace? his cockiness gets him cut in half. rebels? his cockiness gets him killed by obi wan. there’s other examples too, but the point is this is no different. if you actually pay attention to maul and ahsoka’s duel, you’d notice that maul has the upper hand for most of the fight. at the culmination of the fight in the rafters, he has ahsoka dead to rights, but his arrogance and cockiness lets ahsoka take advantage of him and turn the tables, capturing him. if he took the easy win, ahsoka would be dead and maul would have escaped. but his arrogance gets the best of him and it costs him the fight, as is a consistent and well-executed theme of his character.
lmao no it's not. They completely bastardized the Mandalorians. Filoni and Favro's entire careers are retconning great material and replacing it with worse material.
I love the moment when Rex tells Ahsoka that the clones have been ordered to execute every Jedi Knight. The full phrase "Jedi Knight" is used so rarely in this show and at this point in the timeline in general that it stands out. We are more typically familiar with hearing the Jedi referred to as Masters or Generals in the show. Rex reminds us of their origins as Knights in the same sentence that he foretells their doom.
Imo, they were always knights. They always fit in that architype that lives for, strives for, and fights for something bigger than themselves. They always had the galaxies safety and eventual harmony as their priority, either on an individual level or in a large scale battle. Sure, the clone wars was a distraction, and Palpatine's way of spreading out the Jedi, but they had the best intentions, and did seek/teach truth, (even if they were mortal and weren't perfect), in my opinion. Ahsoka was by no means "calling out" Obi Wan but it was written to look that way. Sorry to pop off, but idk what happened to Ahsoka this season, it just felt like another "be better" session with strong wahman. Obi knew that Coruscant had a big population, and saving lives is not playing politics. Because they're allied with the Republic it only makes sense they didn't want to go on a random crusade on a planet that isn't in present danger. The Jedi were blind and arrogant in Filoni's retelling of these events, not in the prequels. I wish people would pay attention to what is in front of them (Revenge of the Sith, the OT). Whatever Filoni is trying to convey about the Jedi in those last seasons was not what they were meant to be. The Jedi were good, even if they are mere mortals and mistake prone. This explains the intended vision we didn't see in Revenge of the Sith: a novel review with s*** audio ua-cam.com/video/MKgEalHrQj8/v-deo.html
@@ThreadBareHope1234 I was just alluding to the fact that chivalric Knights were essentially lone, medieval peacekeepers just like the Jedi had been. They were seen mostly as Generals in the Clone Wars because now they commanded battle troops, which was really unprecedented for peacekeepers since they hadn't dealt with war for thousands of years. Sorry I wasn't casting moral judgment on the Jedi Order, just pointing out that their role had in practice changed during the Clone Wars.
The title of the finale alone, “Victory and Death” gives me chills every time. It’s such a beautifully concise way to describe the way the war ended. The war resulted in a Republic/Empire victory, and everyone is dead. The way it’s so close to phrases like “victory OR death” or the concept of victory BUT the heroes die, the clone wars were “won” BECAUSE all the heroes died. The genocide of the Jedi and the Republic/Empire defeating its enemies and seizing control over the galaxy aren’t two independent events that happened to occur at the same time. They were the SAME event. Victory AND death.
for me its the description of that very finale that gives me the chills: 'Ahsoka and Rex must use their wit and skills to survive the turbulent end of the Clone Wars'. Whats so amazing about this is the fact that the last part 'end of the clone wars' has two meanings: the fact that in universe the clone wars ends with order 66 and the slaughter of all the seperatist leaders on mustafar AND the fact that this episode is literally the end of the clone wars television series
I really do wish they explained how maul was saved by his followers. Yeah I know it’s in a comic and Dave didn’t want to ret-con it this time but please man, you gotta do it for me I’m begging yeh
I agree. I absolutely hated the martez sisters arc. And I thought the bad batch was decent but was more of a pilot for the actual bad batch show, which is of course, pretty good.
I always like to mention this thought about the Clone Wars Finale: I know a lot of people were surprised with Ahsoka's lightsabers being blue now (changed by Anakin of course), it seemed like such an unnecessary change to make. But I think it was completely worth it just for the fact the last scene of The Clone Wars is Darth Vader holding a blue lightsaber. "It's like poetry, it rhymes"
I don't think it was unnecessary that Anakin changed the colors. Maybe it reflects how much he missed her and tried to pass a part of himself to her. So when he retrieved the lightsabers he was reminded of his humanity again.
Everything about The Siege of Mandalore is pure cinema gold - the dialogue, Maul, the mo-capped fights, the improved animation, Maul, the gorgeous music and DARTH FUCKING MAUL.
My favorite layer added by this arc is how easy all the bad things could've been prevented. Ashoka could've shared info, Obi-Wan could've spoken to Anakin, Windu could've been less of a dick. It really makes Revenge of the Sith more dynamic. To use the analogy in this video, not only does the audience know about the bomb under the table, the characters also get close to finding it, but stop themselves right before.
Honestly, I feel Mauls hallway walk is better than both Vader's, and Lukes. No weapons, just walking, killing as he goes. It's just so epic to see him utilise his surroundings, and it purely shows his power and resourcefulness.
I think you have a point, I think it just doesn't have the same atmosphere. Vader's is terrifying tense moment and Luke's is an epic return, whereas Maul's is just cool, but it doesn't really have the same feel imo
Maul and Ashoka while not even really exploited on in live action are what I believe to be the best written characters besides obi won anakin and palpatine
I have to disagree. Vader's and Luke's hallway walks are perfect because they were unexpected and them bathing the hallway with the colour of their lightsaber makes them some of the best scenes of those characters.
Maul was the ultimate badass, how he literally turned into Force Unleashed mode killing everyone, throwing doors and shit, ripping the hyperdrive off 😂 The only one who knew what was going to happen yet nobody listened. Together with Ashoka, they could've changed everything. He was the Lana Beniko of Clone Wars S7, pragmatic, reasonable, willing to team up with his enemy to end Palps. Sam Witwer delivery and Ray Park motion cap performance deserves every possible award there is ❤❤❤
Sam Witwer did a fantastic job! His voice acting is part of the reason why I think the force unleashed is one of the best star wars games ever made! The only game that slightly beats it for me is jedi fallen order.
I especially love the way tales of Jedi expanded on how ashoka managed to face the clones relentless assault, and just how advanced she was showing just how similar she was to anakin.
That single tales of the jedi episode with Ahsoka destroyed Rey and made us hate her even more. Because with 2 scenes it shows Snips has been practicing for almost 3 years, whereas Rey can just do whatever she wanted without training
@@brennantorretta7749kinda weird how ppl can call themselves Star Wars fans and completely ignore and contradict the main lessons of the whole damn universe lol
@@BallisticTechRight! The American star wars fans don't see how the fall of the republic in star wars happened in a very similar way as it is now. I watched a video called "How liberty dies: the politics of star wars" and it shows how brilliantly George Lucas' writing was.
@@thegoldman25 I would agree. I think clone wars is better than Rebels though. It's way darker in tone whereas rebels is a bit too kid friendly to me to really love it.
And what's great is that Filoni had a hand in creating the first season of TLA and was recruited onto the clone wars while he was working on TLA. Makes sense these 2 shows are S tier.
Rex saying “The entire grand army of the republic has been ordered to hunt down and destroy the Jedi knights” is the same wording as Obi-Wan in a new hope when he told Luke how Darth Vader “helped the empire hunt down and destroy the Jedi knights” and I just love that parallel so much because we subconsciously “recognize” that line and that’s why it hits so hard.
Has it been 3 years already?!?! The goosebumps that this arc gave me the first time I watched it... I just love The Clone Wars, and imho this is the best piece of Star Wars content ever produced. Dave Filoni the GOAT!
I watched it the very night it came out. The entirety of Season 7 I stayed up till midnight watching. After the finale, I went to bed crying because the Clone Wars was literally my childhood. The Siege of Mandalore arc encapsulated everything just perfectly.
The only thing that you missed was when Ahsoka jumps out of the LAAT in the first episode, the music syncs up perfectly with the beginning of the Siege of Coruscant during Revenge of the Sith. It lets you know where the story is in relation to the bigger movie. It's an amazing detail and the only thing I think that was missing from your great love letter to this arc!
That was one of my favorite musical touches too. Along with the altered intro, and the very Return of the Jedi-esque theme that plays when Rex and his men pop out from under the bridge to fight the trade federation droids.
This series is literally my childhood. The video game, the show, the toys from the show. All of it. This show will forever have a special place in my heart.
I just finished tcw a few days ago and I’m still thinking about it. Like this final arc just hit hard and I’m sure when I rewatch it again in the future, it’ll still feel that heavy. This finale is truly on another level of film and ties with rots so well, just making the story even deeper and more heartbreaking
The Clone Wars is always my favorite show and hits home for me, I do think season 7 wraps up the show really well. I actually predicted this before rebels ended. I’m glad they saved the clone wars
There’s one thing I couldn’t stop thinking about in the final episode that just made it 10x more sad for me The clones are children. They’re all about 10-13 years old.
I really think they did such an incredible job. I wish Disney wasn't always so dead set on a happy ending. This finale made me feel so many deep emotions that I would never have felt with the stereotypical "the good guys always win" ending that Disney ALWAYS does. Sometimes the good guys don't win and there is tragedy and that just makes it feel so real and it adds to when the good guys finally obtain the victory.
Agreed, i feel like that's why a lot of Star Wars fans have such high regard for Revenge of the Sith as well. It's not a happy ending, but a complex yet well-told story based on the very real concept that sometimes evil wins
Feels a lot like Rogue One. I was so happy they ended that with a suicidal mission where everything is lost (but still manage to get the famous death star plans out. Not very Disney like where almost no one survives.
I mean, I don't really feel like Clone Wars had a happy ending. One of the final shots was basically a graveyard of helmets with ahsoka's markings on them.
The music when Maul is in the cell, is the same music in ROTS when Anakin and Padme are looking across at each other. Not only does it work perfectly, it lets you know where this story is in relation to that one. It's another example of Filoni showing you the timer on the bomb under the table.
Funny enough this arc also reinforces why the rebellion truly mattered, because we see the lives it destroyed. Ever since 1977 the Empire is characterized by its imposing cruelty, so it’s only fitting the Clone Wars ending with an empty shot illustrating the injustice.
And not just the injustice but how easily anyone can be discarded. The clones were the true reason and means of which Palpatine achieved his goal. They were instrumental in keeping the Jedi and Galaxy mired in busy work and then as executioners and finally as a Galactic wide police force until he could get the Imperial Army and Navy up and running. And for their sacrifice, they are forgotten. And even for those heroic deeds and sacrifices during the clone wars, turning on the jedi and stomping hard on the galaxy is their only legacy. Its heartbreaking.
This video was awesome. You managed to not only sum up all the emotions many Star Wars fans felt during these last few episodes, but you also went to the core of each scene and further cemented those emotions with an overall perfect analysis. Amazing work.
I'm not a huge fan of The Clone Wars as a whole (maybe it's a generational thing). But I consider the Siege of Mandalore "required watching". A true masterpiece.
@@kdusel1991 i don't know if you noticed, but Disney plus has a Mandalorian Culture playlist in the star wars section that makes it so easy. Also works as a guide to know what's going on in mandalorian
@@hcxpl1 the umbara arc is so good!! Keep in mind that I didn't even watch Clone wars when it came out. I watched it during lockdown. It's incredible! I also like the bounty hunter obi wan arc. And anything with Cad Bane is perfect.
Watching this show with my bf was one of the best things we've ever done. It started out as a fun series to watch since he was getting into Star Wars himself, but by the time he saw Vader on-screen where Anakin was supposed to be he was in tears
This was such an incredible finale to one of my favorite shows of all time. I’ve been watching the show since the film came out in theaters back in 08 so seeing it come to an incredible end was both satisfying but also emotional.
@@thegoldman25 thanks for a great breakdown man! Enjoyed your insight on the episodes and would be really interested in seeing you talk about other arcs that stood out to you from the show!
I'd say this ending for The Clone Wars tv show, the ending for Avatar The Last Airbender tv show, the ending for the Harry Potter movies, and the ending for The Lord of the Rings movies are examples of how to end a tv or movie franchise on a perfect note.
i think the idea was, they didn’t believe it could be Palpatine, they’d known him so long and it just didn’t seem like a sith could gain high office and be amongst top Jedi and not be detected. so the suspicion about Palpatine from the Jedi i think was meant to be that someone around him was the Sith rather than him. Part of that seems to have been about where the Jedi had become complacent and sometimes overconfident, most obviously for the padawans who died in the series, but also the council.
Without outside knowledge of who Palpatine is or what he's ben doing, Sidious could have been someone like Mas Amedda. Him being a Jafar-esk figure, possibly using the force to manipulate Palpatine is 100% believable.
This show is so powerful and well made to the point where I was in tears watching the latter half of this video, a video ABOUT the show, not even the show itself. Don't even get me started on the show itself or else I'm not gonna be able to sleep
Whenever anyone asks me what’s my favourite star wars movie I say Rogue One but if I could call this a movie it would be this arc. Every single thing is perfection. I wouldn’t change a single thing. The Maul tempting Ahsoka stuff. The mandalorians. Order 66. And that final scene in the snow. Perfect.
That’s the thing, This arc _feels_ like a movie. If you take away every intro except the first, and every end credits before the last, it essentially _is_ a movie. I feel it was directed like one, which is amazing. In this context, we were introduced to the Clone Wars by a movie, and it ended with a movie. Pretty neat if you ask me.
I can’t believe it’s been 3 years since this masterpiece came out… It only feels like yesterday when I waited til 3 am for the episode to release so I could watch it
everyone saluting ahsoka before order66 gives me fallen order vibes, where every clon cal meets cheers for him, gives him high fives and salutes shortly before trying to kill them
The Siege of Mandalore arc and The Umbara arc are the two best arcs in the show for me and the fact The Siege of Mandalore surpassed The Umbara arc shows how far the studio went with the ending.
That introduction to the videos is soo true! I remember it like it was yesterday and it truly was the first and only time I've seen almost everyone be excited for a Star Wars product without any stupid controversy! Good times..
One thing I feel like I don't hear talked about enough is Anakin in the battle of Yerbana. I love that scene, just because of how nonchalant he acts. To me, it was a way of characterising him, showing his ego, as he looks down on Obi-Wan and Cody huddling. He acts as if he is in control of the situation, even though he really isn't, and honestly, I thought it was a subtle way of implying he thinks himself stronger/more powerful than Obi-Wan (something that certainly plays into their final duel). Also, he completely disregards all the troopers dying around him, and just jokes about finishing their battle first and laughing at Obi-Wan for retreating, despite it being their best option. Idk, I just think it's neat how they took the classic battlefield banter and dynamics and skewed it slightly to the left to show how Anakin has shifted closer to the Dark Side
i’ll admit. i never got into the clone wars when i was younger. it wasn’t until last year where i finally sat down and slogged it out while i was gravely sick. man. i wish i could watch it for the first time all over again. the final episode is beautiful and painful to watch. i grew to love these characters, even the droids. what made it all stand out was seeing the reconstruction of the bodies of the droids towards the conclusion of the episode. i think it beautifully contrasts the mindless nature of the clones turn to order 66 as “droid-like” while the physical droid units have their lives to save ashoka. beautiful
Tales of the Jedi Episode 5 adds so much extra context and weight to the final two episodes and Ahsokas escape. Not sure if this came out before TotJ but all the super cuts of Clone wars and those moments with Anakin brutally teaching Ahsokas... Man
I was in high school in my senior year when we found out about the release of Star Wars Season 7 trailer. I remember us all crowding around one phone and watching the trailer as it was being streamed for the first time. It was a(n) collective experience that I’ll never forget. We call burst into cheering as it played. I’ve never seen that class so collectively happy as I saw on that day. When I got home I ended up rewatching the trailer so many times. All the way up to the shows release. Then me and my dad sat down and watched the show together. It was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. One I’ll never forget. This is one of the best shows and the best finally that I’ve ever watched in my entire life so far. It’s why I still love Star Wars to this day!
I love the siege of mandalore the way it was done to send off the clone wars was perfect. Going from an unfinished episode to rex briefly mentioning the siege in rebels, they really did this arc justice
The ending still gives me heartbreak with Vader picking up Ahsoka’s lightsaber. It’s especially sad because the way Vader moves makes it so similar to Anakin’s movements rather than how Vader usually walks.
Still brings tears to my eyes. I consider the last arc of clone wars to be essential viewing to feel even more of the weight and emotion of this modern Shakespearean tragedy.
For 12:22, I thought it reflected how Ashoka is in a brief state of nostalgic longing considering how both characters at this point are reminded of a crucial figure in their past (Rey to Luke during training, Ashoka to Anakin during battles). Additionally, they both respond with a bittersweet expression as they close one journey (leaving that figure behind) and begin another.
Great video, but one bit I noticed you didn't touch on is the call-back to the clone wars movie: When Ahsoka is telling Rex she technically outranks him and he says experience and respect outranks everything, and then in this episode when Rex (and all the clones really) outranks her and yet he (and all the clones) still address her as Sir & Ma'am, showing respect and seniority. It's a great arc with lots of call-backs the great series. I just wish Jesse got some justice in the end. Seeing his helmet on a stick genuinely made me cry. It's the only show, and one of the only media (shows, movies, books) that has made me cry for a character like that. I have been watching the Clone Wars since it came out in 2008 (when I was 4) and still watch it to this day.
Fun fact, the title of the finale “Victory and Death” is actually a reference to the Darth Maul son of dathomir comic which was supposed to be one of the arcs in the show. In it, the mauldalorians would chant “victory and death” before battle. Pretty neat
Also as far as the clones knowing that they have no say, the episode after the return to Geonosis where there are the brain worms as well as the entire arc where 5's dies and the whole arc with general Pon Krell the clones all keep saying "good soldiers follow orders" and those episodes also contain snippets about the clones knowing how to fight Jedi and the mission that they all run over and over in their nightmares.
I just finished watching the entire clone wars series a few months ago and i must say I was not disappointed. It just makes episode 3 that much more heartbreaking.
It was amazing to see how much Anakin has grown since the Return of the Sith. We see him grow from a meer child that Obiwan basically didn't care for, to a son and father, to a brother.
Regarding your comment at 3:02, I totally agree. For me, it was an interesting predicament as a Star Wars fan who already saw Rebels and knew the eventual fates of Ahsoka, Rex, and Maul; however, I still remember being beyond satisfied when I watched the Seige of Mandalore arc for the first time. It was that missing piece of the story that I always wanted to see. When I introduced my wife to Star Wars last year and we got to the end of the Clone Wars, it was fun to vicariously experience The Siege of Mandalore with her as she didn't know what would happen to these characters. Currently, she is now caught up in watching every movie and show (even had her play Fallen Order), and she stands by the opinion that Clone Wars is the best part of Star Wars, and I believe that viewing it for the first time without seeing Rebels or Mandalorian first really enhanced her first experience of the Star Wars story. Anyway, the only movie series I could think of that has come close to this predicament was in the MCU when the Spiderman No Way Home teaser trailer came out like four months before the theatrical release of Avengers Endgame. Spiderman being blipped away was a huge moment, and to see him totally fine in teaser trailer that came out before Endgame's release was a bit odd to me. I understand that they needed to sell the tickets and advertise for the film, but I knew that Spiderman was going to walk out of Endgame totally fine because of that.
NWH came out way after endgame though. Also Jedi Fallen Order is one of the best star wars games I've ever played. I'd love it if the sequel was ported to the ps4.
This is one of those arcs that i can watch over and over again and never get bored of it, its just peek star wars in my opinion. It combined everyhing we love about the Clone Wars and put it in almost like a movie format on screen. Its just perfect, no other words for it. Also the video is just amazing I watched it like 6 times already and for good reason, keep up the good work man!
It's ironic that you have this video out because I just got done watching the Knight Sisters episode in Clone Wars for the first time. And I understand that that is where the series really takes off and gets better and better. I can not wait to watch this episode
Can't talk for how it was during the Clone Wars, but in the time of the Old Republic, due to the diversity of species, races and genders in Republic Military Command, all superior officers were given the title of Sir. Also, loved the video. The best Star Wars arc for sure!
You missed the part when Maul lunges in and you can hear Palpatine in the background as he takes out Kit Fisto and the other Jedi masters at the same moment Ahsoka and Maul start to fight. Such a cool detail.
I didn’t grow up with the Clone Wars, but I’ve always been a massive Star Wars fan. When I heard S7 was coming out and saw everyone excited about it, I watched the show. It is immaculate. The filling in of time periods is so perfect, because it only serves to bolster the impact of what comes before and after it. I watched Rebels for the first time after finishing The Clone Wars, and it hit me. So. Hard. Rebels is my favorite single Star Wars series because of what it dared to do and accomplished well. And I believe that the impact of so many moments in Rebels would have been greatly diminished without The Clone Wars. Dave Filoni is a genius.
That one scene where Ashoka’s talking to the Jedi council really infuriated me. They knew something was up with Palpatine, and didn’t tell Ashoka anything about it because she wasn’t a Jedi. Ashoka also heard from maul that this Sith was trying to groom Anakin into becoming his apprentice. They could’ve used there minds for once to realize that Palpatine was a sith sooner.
Not without un-writing the events of the movies. I think what we got was what Dave thought was the most reasonable method of writing where Ahsoka's choices ultimately had no impact on what happened in the movie, no matter how hard she tried. There were impacts elsewhere, but the movie cannot be changed.
Great Video! This Is Is My Favorite Show Of All Time. It was literally My Childhood, And It will always hold a special piece in My Heart. The Siege Of Mandalore Is An Absolute Masterpiece. It's My Favorite Star Wars Content Ever Made Alongside The Umbara Arc, And I'm So Happy that They could bring This Incredible Show back for The Perfect Ending It Always Deserved. THANK YOU DAVE FILONI!!!!!!
And after watching Bad Batch, it all falls into place. No words can explain my love for this show. Waiting to see where Bad Batch goes next, and than starting again from the start.
I remember where I was when I first found out. I was just a teenager sitting on my couch when I saw google Advertising the 7th season. I screamed to my brothers, and it was a moment of true bliss. I'll never forget that moment.
Love the video! Just a small note- I believe the first “mind probe” uses were (I believe) in clone wars. Anakin, Windu and Obi wan were doing it on Cad Bane, Nute Gunray and maybe even Poggle. That would’ve been *before* Kylo or Snoke.
I love how Asoka says I’m not going to be the one to kill them then promptly goes and releases Darth Maul to bring down the entire space station killing every clone on board
Landed here as a recommendation from Lore Star’s Ahsoka transformation video. What a great transition. Was watching on my TV which I use signed out, but man I had to come here so I could subscribe and support. A+ video essay. You put to words what makes all of us love the end of season 7 so damn much while giving us awesome visual context. So many great things, from plot and narrative standpoint, as well as the small details like the Episode III tie ins with the dramatic irony, the Easter eggs, Maul’s depth of character, the awesome animation and cinematography and so much more (Ahsoka be fit 😂) All of this whilst adding a personal touch of your own humble opinion and humor which makes it even more fun. Thank you, for taking the time to produce an intelligent, enlightening, entertaining, overall awesome video 🙏🙏🙏 Looking forward to viewing more of your other work! Keep it up 👍
@@thegoldman25 im sure the jedi wouldve kept records in their archives, i mean they knew about force sensitive babies on certain planets that they control. So i think he could definitely have a list of all the jedi.
God, has it really been 3 years already?!!? I can’t believe it, I graduated High School at that time, and now I’m about finish my 3rd year of college, guess time flies even during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The shot of the clones’ graves as the camera pans to rest on Jesse’s helmet is still one of the most emotionally damaging things I’ve ever witnessed in television. It’s like in that moment, he represented every 501st clone who we grew up with, almost all of whom were gone.
I think that because the clones are unique in the sense that their entire military is comprised of, well, clones, and they’re all guys, perhaps they’re so used to saying “sir” that they just refer to everyone that way. But then Rex says “ma’am” because he’s been around Ahsoka so long
The last season of this show came right when I hit adulthood, it hit every emotion this show brought me, times 100. Never thought I’d say something was perfect but this last season and last episode did it.
There were a few commanders that received a special order from Sidous. Rex was one of them because of how important Sidous felt it would be that ahsoka was killed. So when he received that message from sidous much like commander Cody he was talking directly to him and he wasn’t just sent some gif the he recorded
The discussion of layers upon layers being added by this arc to the tragedy of order 66 is so spot on, and I love how EVEN MORE layers are added in Tales of the Jedi when Anakin trains Ahsoka in the move she uses to escape Rex and the clones after they receive the order. I think there are a lot of great stories to be told in the galaxy far far away that have little to do with the core story we know, but I hope they continue to add layers to the narrative we already know in this manner nonetheless.
After watching the clone wars and still watching bad batch it makes vaders sacrifice more impactful to me since not only did he save his son but avenged all of the Jedi, clones and friends that all died by his side when killing palpatine
Siege of Mandalore was a masterpiece!!! Seriously 5/5! The bad batch episode were great too and expanded Anakin and Padme’s relationship. The 4 with Ahsoka and the sisters was not so great, mainly because of the sisters. But hey the last 4! Perfection! 🎉🎉🎉
The music. The action. The symbolism. The everything of the last six minutes of the last episode, not to mention the entire Siege of Mandalore storyline, was just heartbreaking and fantastic at the same time. Not sure it could have been done any better. And to top it off it came at a time when we really needed to take our minds off what was happening it the real world.
I think what I love about Clone Wars and this arc in particular is not only how it enhances the prequel trilogy but how it enhances the original trilogy as well. The OT feels like justice for what happened to the clones and the Jedi. Also I wanted to mention how good Vader looks in the Clone Wars art style. Actually perfect design for his armor to fit that style.
Siege of Mandalore is without question peak television and also Star Wars It is the perfect execution of Hitchcock's bomb theory and makes Revenge of the Sith the best Star Wars movie Especially the montage of Siege of Mandalore and RotS is for me the best I have ever seen
The last 4 episodes are a cinematic experience. That’s honestly what made me such a big Star Wars fan and is, in my opinion, the best Star Wars content period
It's wild to think we spent 7 seasons with these characters only for everything to end with... Nothing. All that war. All the adventures. All the characters. All for a man to continue his plans and... No one wins. Separatists lose. The Republic loses. All for nothing.
wonderfully said
@@thegoldman25 thank you :D
😢 so true
Well, ultimately that IS the message - that war is a tragedy and the there are no winners, besides those in the highest of places who gain power from it - we are just fighting amongst ourselves by arbitrary distinctions and for no real reason.
Yes, the entier show is... bittersweet? Becaude we all know most characters will die painfuly.
Damn bro. Never thought of it that way.
Damnnn, that hits home, man. So much/many sad symbolic metaphors hidden in plain sight.
Great call.
Also his design was sick asf

This arc is one of, if not, the greatest piece of Star Wars content ever made. The amount of love and effort put into ending a story and show I grew up with was done perfectly and it never fails to make me happy and give me goosebumps. It is my favorite ending to a TV show by far (I haven't watched a lot of TV shows, so this may change).
I totally agree!
I agree, this is the best Star Wars media as far as story goes ever.
Seeing Rex crying is something so extremely powerful, I think it is the most powerful moment in all of The Clone Wars
not at all calm down lmaooo 😂
I love the moment when Rex tells Ahsoka that the clones have been ordered to execute every Jedi Knight. The full phrase "Jedi Knight" is used so rarely in this show and at this point in the timeline in general that it stands out. We are more typically familiar with hearing the Jedi referred to as Masters or Generals in the show. Rex reminds us of their origins as Knights in the same sentence that he foretells their doom.
so much weight behind that line

@@1983horizons1 Oh, yeah. I know. Sorry if that sounded accusative. I agree with you and just started rambling.😄
@@ThreadBareHope1234 Ah, no worries. The rant was valid!
Season 7 in a nutshell: a really good arc, a mid /bad arc, and a great arc. That shows in great detail why this show is beloved as it is.

@@vassilyvodka2638 or how he also wants control

Yes, I agree. Maul is the best.
I rewatch the siege of Mandalor so often. It really is perfect.

If you look back at maul this is like the second we have seen him absolutely dominate with out a lightsaber
@@MidnightNachos lol

The clones are children.
I totally agree with you, but I feel like they had no choice not to do a happy ending considering how the prequels end

@@doomawsogaming that's... what they said
The music when Maul is in the cell, is the same music in ROTS when Anakin and Padme are looking across at each other.

God that “ The bomb goes off.” scene is bone chilling and heartbreaking
Idk, I just think it's neat how they took the classic battlefield banter and dynamics and skewed it slightly to the left to show how Anakin has shifted closer to the Dark Side
i’ll admit. i never got into the clone wars when i was younger. it wasn’t until last year where i finally sat down and slogged it out while i was gravely sick.
man. i wish i could watch it for the first time all over again. the final episode is beautiful and painful to watch. i grew to love these characters, even the droids. what made it all stand out was seeing the reconstruction of the bodies of the droids towards the conclusion of the episode. i think it beautifully contrasts the mindless nature of the clones turn to order 66 as “droid-like” while the physical droid units have their lives to save ashoka.
beautiful
so glad you watched the series, it's truly special

It hasn't even been that long and the nostalgia hype I got from watching this was real
I love the siege of mandalore the way it was done to send off the clone wars was perfect. Going from an unfinished episode to rex briefly mentioning the siege in rebels, they really did this arc justice
The ending still gives me heartbreak with Vader picking up Ahsoka’s lightsaber. It’s especially sad because the way Vader moves makes it so similar to Anakin’s movements rather than how Vader usually walks.
something i love about the clone wars is it really shows *how* far anakin fell. even just his brief interactions with ahsoka in s7 really show that.
Still brings tears to my eyes. I consider the last arc of clone wars to be essential viewing to feel even more of the weight and emotion of this modern Shakespearean tragedy.
Amazing video and such a great description of emotion we all felt while watching our childhood show end
The feeling and tone fit so well with Revenge of the Sith and it feels like a movie. Some of the best Star Wars and the best ARC by far.
This video, shows the final season of SWTCL so much justice. Excellently written. Amazing choice of background music and pauses. Great essay.
I'd love it if the sequel was ported to the ps4.
yeah it's a really interesting situation
This is one of those arcs that i can watch over and over again and never get bored of it, its just peek star wars in my opinion. It combined everyhing we love about the Clone Wars and put it in almost like a movie format on screen. Its just perfect, no other words for it.

Wow! Thank you for watching the video that many times, even I couldn't do that and I like listening to myself talk hahaha
But that happens before the battle because you can see windu chatting with ahsoka and the masters after Maul and Ahsoka's fight.
@@Tazytots and still had the effects of making it even more depressing
This is you magnum opus man. I let UA-cam auto play well I work and every time it lands on this video I never skip it. It’s just perfect😤
You are way too kind. Thank you so much for the support!
I love how Asoka says I’m not going to be the one to kill them then promptly goes and releases Darth Maul to bring down the entire space station killing every clone on board
Well, ig technically She wan’t the one to kill them in the end lol.
What a great recap - made me appreciate things so much more. Well done!
Awesome, thank you!
I love how the final arc has peak Clone Wars War Crimes. It took me back to a simpler time.
Keep it up 👍
34:46 personally my head cannon is that order 66 was a hit list that had all the Jedi but anakin on it
would Palpatine realistically have a list of all the jedi
@@thegoldman25 im sure the jedi wouldve kept records in their archives, i mean they knew about force sensitive babies on certain planets that they control. So i think he could definitely have a list of all the jedi.
@@thegoldman25 Well, he certainly would have when the Jedi signed up to become generals and commanders in the GAR.
32:29 for some reason, in the background, it seems like Cal’s theme from the Jedi series is playing. just a weird musical tidbit
So when he received that message from sidous much like commander Cody he was talking directly to him and he wasn’t just sent some gif the he recorded
excellent review for the four final episodes! thanks a lot for your work, it's been a great trip to listen to you! greetings from Chile!
It’s my pleasure! I love seeing that my viewers are from all over the world, thank you!
And 6 months after this video, we get to see the Siege of Mandalore in live-action in Ahsoka Ep 5, needless to say much sooner than expected too.
I’ve cried alot over stories strong emotional beats, writing, shots, but I bawled my eyes out when I first watched that ending shot with Jesses helmet
Siege of Mandalore was a masterpiece!!! Seriously 5/5! The bad batch episode were great too and expanded Anakin and Padme’s relationship. The 4 with Ahsoka and the sisters was not so great, mainly because of the sisters.
But hey the last 4! Perfection! 🎉🎉🎉
So damb good!
The theme at the end of the final episode gets me every time
The music.
For real, I like the editing and the clips which show how some of us could have reacted to the movies and series.
I honestly also noticed they always called Ashoka sir, and I never knew why. I had a stroke when Rex actually called her ma’am for once.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who had that thought
The animation
The music
The characters
The emotion
The plot
The choreography
Everything is perfect 😗🤌
I think what I love about Clone Wars and this arc in particular is not only how it enhances the prequel trilogy but how it enhances the original trilogy as well. The OT feels like justice for what happened to the clones and the Jedi.
Also I wanted to mention how good Vader looks in the Clone Wars art style. Actually perfect design for his armor to fit that style.
I really wish it came out before rebels just to just have the anticipation to see if ahsoka/maul/Rex would survive
That would’ve been great
What a brilliant Video its just so cool the way you explain it. Verry good Video
Thank you so much 😀
Siege of Mandalore is without question peak television and also Star Wars
It is the perfect execution of Hitchcock's bomb theory and makes Revenge of the Sith the best Star Wars movie
Especially the montage of Siege of Mandalore and RotS is for me the best I have ever seen
It’s amazing! Thanks for watching!
The last 4 episodes are a cinematic experience. That’s honestly what made me such a big Star Wars fan and is, in my opinion, the best Star Wars content period
