      @@user-xs1yx9tc9m hmm i heavily doubt it. around the 2:30 mark, while she's running back up the stairs, you can hear how it affects her voice. also around the ending, you can tell she was out of breath and i think its obvious 😭😭 she still sounds amazing of course, i actually don't think i've found a performance of theirs where she's blatantly lip-signing. she rocks 🤘

      Thanks for that ! I know that some performers have done a pre-recorded 'live' track to get that 'authentic' sound. Also, I look for how far the microphone is from the mouth. The sound of the voice will only be picked up if the mike is near.( I like it whatever !) @@revclsion

      @@revclsion Yeah, you can hear her straining as well and her tone doesn’t sound exactly the same as the studio recording. I’ve watched her perform this song more recently and she sounds a lot better. She doesn’t sound out of breath or strained despite still moving on stage a lot while she sings, but you can still tell she’s singing live. Her technique has really improved since the early 2000s.

      I was thinking the same thing. If she was concentrating more on singing and not on running around 'performing' she'd have given a much better vocal performance. It is all about balance. Putting on a good visual show is important, but it is not as important as being able to play/sing well. A little less running around would have made this much better. Finding that perfect mix between having enough air to sing well and still being visually dynamic is key.

      FugalFive4790:
      ~ Yeah - , on all of these circa 2013 "live" performance videos of the song "Going Under", the band is apparently playing along with a "backing track". The piano, orchestral strings, and multi-part additional vocals for those performances are all provided by that playback. That kind of augmenting of "'live" shows has become commonplace on TV-shows, etc., as-of the 2010s - , but it was probably not-so-common during the early 20-aughts.

    • @GothicElf68
      @GothicElf68 5 років тому +18

      @@charliebe28 That really depends upon the band. Groups in the Symphonic Metal genre do it all the time, in addition to having many of their symphonic components being played by the keyboardist. If it is done right- meaning well rehearsed and by very skilled technicians who work with the band- it blends in seamlessly. If you want a really good example of this, watch pretty much any live performance by Nightwish. I recommend Wacken 2013 or the Wembley 2015 performances. Or you can go back even farther, and check out the End of an Era concert. I don't know the exact year, but it was with their original vocalist, who left the band in 2005. They had the backing tracks even back then; the band's genre has always been Symphonic Metal/Symphonic Power Metal.

    • @charliebe28
      @charliebe28 5 років тому +3

      @@GothicElf68:
      ~ Yeah - , as I implied in my original comment here to FugalFive4789, the use of backing-tracks for "live" performances probably was beginning to become commonplace circa the early 20-aughts. (As an example, who can forget the infamous Oct. 2004 incident when the singer Ashley Simpson had a career-altering mishap with her backing-track, during her {mimed} performance on Saturday Night Live.) That all coincided with the first professional "flash memory"-based solid-state audio play-back devices becoming available.
      ~ By-the-way, if you want to get "historic" about the use of baking-tracks being used for "live" performances - , I know that the band Emerson, Lake, & Palmer used tape play-back for some of their more difficult-to-recreate synthesizer effects as early as that band's 1973-`74 world-tour. (I personally _saw_ such a tape-deck at their mixing station, when I attended an E.L.P. concert in 1977.) The band Queen also used backing-tracks at-least as early as their 1977 tour, to provide the multi-overdubbed vocals on some of their songs. Do understand that back then that required lugging-around an analog-tape "mastering deck" plugged into their mixing console, to provide an adequately high-fidelity signal.

    • @GothicElf68
      @GothicElf68 5 років тому +3

      @@charliebe28 Yes, I do. I saw ELP live in San Diego as a teen ager. Mixing in general was a lot more complicated back then, as they did not have the digital computerized equipment techs have today.
      I get your point. I was saying that it was not commonplace for the other genres, but symphonic metal bands have been doing it at least since the genre's inception. I am not sure exactly when it was, but I know Nightwish started in 1995, so a little before they 2ks and they were not the first to emerge.
      Combined with what you said about ELP and Queen, the technology has been around for a while. My statement about it being viable- IF a band has practised and IF they have a good technician that has rehearsed with the band to get the timing down and the mix right- is still a valid one. The tech doing the mixing for this show (or at least for this song) flubbed this up.

    Fifty thousand tears I've cried
    Screaming deceiving and bleeding for you
    And you still won't hear me
    Don't want your hand this time I'll save myself
    Maybe I'll wake up for once
    Not tormented daily defeated by you
    Just when I thought I'd reached the bottom
    I'm dying again
    I'm going under, (going under)
    Drowning in you, (drowning in you)
    I'm falling forever, (falling forever)

    So I don't know what's real and what's not
    Always confusing the thoughts in my head
    So I can't trust myself anymore
    I'm dying again
    I'm going under, (going under)
    Drowning in you, (drowning in you)
    I'm falling forever, (falling forever)
    I've got to break through, I'm
    So go on and scream
    Scream at me I'm so far away
    I won't be broken again
    I've got to breathe I can't keep going under
    I'm dying again
    I'm going under, (going under)

That being said, it's quite impressive she can still sing today, because while songs like this sound amazing, singing like that is not easy on a persons chords. Similar to most Journey songs originally sung by Steve Perry, even Arnel is having a harder time singing them today.

      Simon Heerze
      Yes. Singing certain types of music can be hard on one's voice over the course of a show- no doubt. After more than an hour or two, your cords wear out just like your arms when you're doing pushups. But similar to doing pushups, if you're doing them in a correct and healthy manner, that fatigue (or "damage" if you will) should *never* be permanent.
      If using proper technique and healthy singing habits, one should not "lose" one's voice over the course of their career. That's all I meant to say.

    • @claudioeduardomendoza1445
      @claudioeduardomendoza1445 6 років тому

      It definitely does not sound good live. Sometimes she detunes and if it goes down a little, it would sound almost like phil anselmo although she is beautiful. There is a difference between her voice at the studio and live. Im objective.

    • @monelfunkawitz3966
      @monelfunkawitz3966 6 років тому +12

      Most good singers that dont pre-record or autotune do it. After blowing your vocal cords out show after show you get really critical of your sound. Try singing at the top of your lungs, 100% of what you possibly can belt out for three weeks straight, three hours a day, then say turn up vocal patch.

      If she wanted more volume she would ask for it......singers tend to know these things.....they are called monitors

      The monitors are for on stage only. Front of house is what they record, and you are hearing... and yes, the mix is crap.

    There’s 13 years between me and my brother. I’m 25 and was listening to this at its peak when I was his age. He and all his mates came round and started listening to their modern crap music like Drake and Stormzy- I put this bad boy on loud speaker.
    Hitting the kids with that early noughties epicness!

      Good for you, I raised my boy on this (and the 80's) so he has no interest in modern crap like Beyonce, Taylor Swift etc. His peers think he's just the most innovative and cool 12 yr old ever. He loves Black Sabbath too
