"Very cool, if you're a mega nerd" - Hahaha thats great :)
You know me. I am. Thanks!
The "Analog" visual vibe is just terrific!
This is one of the most interesting channels I have seen in a long while. Your knowledge about music is immense, the script and animations are meticulously planned, your creativity is superb. Most of all, you can deconstruct things and make them seem almost simple. I don't know enough words to describe how good your videos are. Well fucking done, sir.
Oh man thanks so much! I'm very happy people likw this !
This is pure gold y’all be sleeping on this dude for far too long!
My favorite part of Rosetta Stoned is when Maynard says
"Ababababababa my bug eyes"
ROSETTA STONED is such a euphoric groove ❣️
Really well done man! Maybe someday that bassline won't be stuck in my head but not anytime soon.
Sounds like my job here is done hahaha
I wish I had studied music theory to fully understand this but damn you speak clear and I absolutely had a mind blown moment as in having a feeling of why I love this song so much. And the effort you put into making this, stop motion and drawings. God I love this video. Never have I left comments like this but I really want you to know I love what you did. Now Imma binge watch more of your videos for a few days (yes this is the first time I watch your work thank you UA-cam recommendation algorism)
oh wow thank you so much! I'm glad you like it !
BOOM!!! this was unreal to watch
I've been trying to find an explanation for this polyrhythm for years and this is the only one that's done it. Amazing.
Brilliant explanation with beautiful illustrations and of course the subtle humor. Love it! Will see you in the videos soon :)
Your song choise making me subscribe: Opeth, Porcupine Tree, Meshuggah, Tool...
(not only songs, really, but your great work too)
Tool?? Best first video EVER! 👌
I just discovered this channel. Started with the Gojira Art Of Dying video, then got recommended a Opeth / Porcupine Tree video and now I find this TOOL video. The 3 videos I have watched are from my top 4 bands and I have loved them all. Cool to see that you started this series with my favourite band and one of my favourite songs
Wow this tool video is my first one.
I'm happy to say, my production skills got WAY better !
Aah, another of those channels. Creating actually good information, gets drowned out, because it's not posting daily and the content has a small interest group, because ouch...thinking. I will dutifully watch all videos and well, hope for your best and success and that life treats you fairly!
Found this from your Instagram page man! Not only is this super cool and easy to understand, but you picked one of my favorite bands for your first entry! Keep it going man!
NAILED IT! Well, that's easy when the band is TOOL hahaha happy you like it!
did it, i used to play drums and never though to break it down like this, I'm now a subscriber
Very cool
Dude this is outstanding! Great work!
Yalla, let's start 🤣
This is fantastic, my man!
Great job! Really great way to explain it.
Terrific. And I really like your way of presenting and explaining things!
Amazing job!
that's incredible, you deserve more!
Thanks for that excellent explanation. Love the graphics!
Really glad I stumbled across this...
The Glickman! Happy you like it !
So epic man.
Thanks for wickedly entertaining breakdown.
Such wizardry 🔥🔥
Oh god, if you say this about this video, the FIRST one ever, you're truly kind !
Thanks a lot !
Looking forward to next week 😁😁😁
Great video Yogev. Looking forward to see more!!!
Thanks Bartosz!
Your channel is the best!
Awesome dude
Beautiful format! 🌺 awesome presentation! ❤️ 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 MAKE MORE!!
Will do, every week!
Great explanation and Video Art! Think You!
Man this is beautiful. Such a nice illustration an explanation. You are a real genius 👌 cant wait for more lessons...
Thanks a lot! I'll be posting one every week!
Just found your channel Yogev. Thank you for the entertaining and simple explanations of complex rhythmic structures. As a guitar player it is helping me with songwriting and deconstructing others' music a ton! Keep up the great work.
Awesome, thank you! Happy you enjoy these
Great video yogev. I like the zion golan parts
Your are so underated. Thank you for you hard work and time.
Thank you too!
I'm brand new to this channel and I'm amazed for having found out such a gem!
Simply awesome...
Welcome aboard!
so good!
This is awesome!
Hahah the hand dance killed me, I wasn't expecting it
hahahahaahahh
You are the best.thank you for making these videos.
Glad you like them!
Dude kudos for the amount of effort that goes into these videos
Thanks man. Yup it's a tone of work but I love doing it!
I wonder if Tool thought about all of this when making the song or they just played and said "yeah, that's cool. Let's put it in the song."
I highly doubt they did. The creative process is much more about feeling than music theory.
Great love this.thankx
Brillant as well as acessible. Even a college professor can follow .... :)
MORE TOOL!
OMG!!!! Is this the very first Time Consuming?!?!
I absolutely love that Tool groove. So glad I found this today.
hahahahaha it is! So much cringe watching it now after a year of doing these !
I loved this video!!!!
Yogev, you are the be(a)st...and showman too. Looking forward to Tigran's approach on post-it notes 😉
Oh you'll get some Tigran action for sure!
cool stuff love it!!
This is the best video I have seen about one of my most favourite songs. Although, I do not have that much technical knowledge about it. But, loved the way, how you just slowed down the guitar and drums sounds to make it easier to understand the composition 👏🏻❤️
You Sir!! are really a genius 👌🏻🤘🏻
THanks a lot man !!
I freaking love this video! Very well explained !
Edit: Also, quick question: What about the weird drums in the background and the guitar?
I´m down! Thanks so much!
Great !!
This nice!
Why am I dancing so muuuch???
I'll just say I love it! Looking forward for more.
Gimmie mooooooreeee! :D
Really, really a great video to watch :)
Hahahah working on it as we speak!
That's fucking awsome, marshim!!!
Great song, great lesson, great presentation! I wonder how you'd go about decoding the you-know-which section of Lateralus :D
ohhhh good idea.
really well explained, awesome video design! looking forward to the next one. "Bakol Atta" by Shye Ben Tsur has an interesting rhythm IMO.
מ ל ך זה מה שאתה
Fucking amazing
Oh my god I thought I knew how it worked but it was so much simpler than I thought it was... It makes so much sense now!
Also, though I, too, sometimes get polyrhythm and polymeter mixed up, I'm almost certain that this is an example of polymeter, not polyrhythm. Awesome video, though!
Best. Tutor. On the interwebz.
Fantastic explanation, I finally understand how the polyrhythm works. It would have been great for you to include the full beat for the hands and the left foot pulse as well! These really bring it up to the next level of technique and groove too
To be honest, this was my first video so I got overwhelmed and totally forgot to talk about that hahahah
@@YogevGabay first video?? That’s very surprising. You really did a great job mate, I already understood the hands and left froot from johnkew’s breakdown but thanks to you I understand the right foot too. I’m thankful for the work you’ve done here.
@@grogbit3682 Thanks !
You should check out the band ”Intronaut”. They sound kind of like a mix between Tool and Opeth but with meshuggah influenced elements. I think they have several songs which totally could fit in a time consuming video!
I'm not a drummer but I have been trying to figure this line out for access so I'm so happy someone finally tackled it!
I have a question though: why did you choose 3/4 for the time sig? Wouldn't it be easier to count and feel if you were to think of it as 6/8? I'm finding it difficult to keep with the rhythm by thinking in quarter rather than eighth notes, especially at the speed they play.
YESSSS
I know this video is already 3 years old but could you make a video about the rest of this insane drum part?
Wow, amazing videos you have here, congrats!!!
I was wondering lately about the first minute of the song "Back to the magic childhood pt2" by pagans mind. I'm super intrigued by it and I think it's interesting riff.
Would be great if you could analyze it!
Yes! Thank you!
Will put it on my list and will listen
Before watching video: I don't need to listen to Tool
6 minutes later : I need IT !
Btw great content
Great dude.. need some tool :p
Hi man is a great explanation with funny clever visuals, and I like every par of it, you have a new sub 🤘🏼 A little comment about the "3 against 5 thing" I think it falls into polymeter more than polyrhythm (correct me if I'm wrong) of course if there's a polymeter, then there will be a polyrhythm implied it's a little tricky but I think it is a Polymeter.
I'm a composer and I've been using both polyrhythm and polymeter in my compositions and arrangements also I challenge myself to "unlock" all polyrhythms from 2:3 to 7:11 👌🏼
Again is a great work, I'll be watching it 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Thanks a lot man!
The polymeter vs polyrhythm issue is one I will address soon. I was brought up in Israel, and we never used the term polymeter, for anything.
And then, when I stumbled upon it for the first time it made no sense to me hahahaha but I will make a video about it, I'm curious what people have to say!
@@YogevGabay I know what you mean, I'm from México and I didn't know about this term during my time in school, and now that you say it I haven't heard it from any musician I've come across, I knew it was an actual term in a UA-cam video and I wasn't looking for it 😂 (maybe is a Berkeley thing, I don't know).
You forgot to mention the drum hands playing a swiss triplet phrase in 4 over the snare and bass, which is what makes the drum part so hard to get right :)
Well, you're right hahhah
I knew the pieces fit
YESSS! More nerd music! 👏😍🔥
מושלם!
I'd like to hear some explanation of the Bridge section of the title-track 'Lateralus.' Maybe it's just the phrasing/part writing, but that drum groove hits different. I know for sure the cymbal flourishes leading into the section are polyrhythmic, but that's about it.
Ohh yea! That song rocks!
Brain blown, what a king. *Also* So many too shim, as a mashakit of education I'm getting emotional.
Hahahahah epic!
איזה גבר נודרר
אחייי חייבים להביא אותם לארץ!!!
הלוואאייייייייייי מת לראות אותם
Hmm I wonder if we'll have an ocTOOLber to look forward to some day lol xD
Why would you say that.
It's a good idea.
And now I'm considering it.
Bro, you are a beast of a teacher, love your style...can you do Pnuma by tool? Danny carays drum cam getting millions of veiws(I’m in for a thousand). I have the sheet music, but love to hear your take. It is IMHO their greatest achievement, and the drumming is next level.
Great suggestion! Putting it in the list.
Sorry. Thought you were gonna give a DMT trip breakdown to interpret the visuals and overall experience by narrator. Music theory. Time for my ADHD to wander to ANYTHING else more interesting.
Actually the song completely magnetizes my attention. So it helps me pay attention but I also noticed how you broke down the song in theory in a practical understandable manner. Unique way to go, very helpful.
Yogev, I now see this was your first video breakdown of one of my favorite songs from Tool. And maybe the coolest section of it. But I would so much like you to cover the whole song, because I think it deserves it. If not, could you explain the section which starts here: ua-cam.com/video/qnlhVVwBfew/v-deo.html and lasts some 9 seconds. I'm totally lost where is 1, which time signature, or to put it bluntly, I can't feel the rhythm as I should. Thanks in advance. I adore your channel.
Ohh thanks !
Yeah this video is quite old.
I really need to do another tool video !
@@YogevGabay Thank you ❤
I love that but is too difficult 😢
5:13
What's the song clip at 2:50? That's a pretty wild groove!
ahhhh it's called " Ya Jama'a" יא ג'מעה !
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Forty-Six and Two would be great!
What about the percussion section Danny is V playing on the electric part of his kit.... you know he does that live.
Yeah I know, that 3 thing?
Honestly, I didn't realize he's playing that I won't lie hahahah
@@YogevGabay they don’t call him the octopus for nothing 😂
hahaha totally!
Yes but you forgot one whole arm of Danny. Which is actually 3 mortal arms
Isn’t this more of a polymeter rather than a polyrhythm?
This video is quite literally
*_"picture this if you will"_*
so, I'm having a hard time with this one, because I cannot NOT read the notation at the end.
and although the snare and kick clearly play the same beat on bars 2 and 3, the notation puts the kick right after the snare. is it a mistake, or am I not getting something?
No no, you're right.
Bars 2 and 3 have a kick drum in unison with the snare, and that kick you see after is the beginning of the next cycle.
Makes sense?
@@YogevGabay yes!! thanks, man!
what about the other percussion? what’s going on with that
A d i r !!!!!!!!!!!
Try "The Teacher", Paul Simon; "Train", Chris Potter; "Can't Chase Time", Now Vs. Now; "Icarus Lives" - Periphery ...
Checking into all of these !
Shame you didn’t include the Tom pattern
Pretty good, but you missed out the third polyrhytm going on with the right hand drum part! ua-cam.com/video/ltx5bEFX5mc/v-deo.html#t=5m40s I believe it's doing a 4:3 thing over the top of everything, but it adds a layer of difficulty even greater than the 5/8 3/4 combo!
hahahah you're right, but there's only so much I can fit in a video while not making it suuuuuper long
@@YogevGabay I could go for a part II. ;)
@@Lexie_T Oh you'll get you Tool dose. Don't worry.
