1. The shaft of the burner needs to be shorter so the complete setup dont stand so high. 2. Get rid of the plastic parts. 3. They need to design the iid to the pot to use as a fry pan so you have both a pot and pan. 4. Needs to come in a bag kinda like the solo stove.
It's a very different direction for Jetboil, and in that they are getting a bit more generic. What made Jetboil so fantastic was it is simply rock solid dependable. Boil time consistency, pot-burner connection, stability, easy igniter, cozy, pressure regular for cold weather performance. They kept that with the Sol Ti, but with the Stash they are widdling those aspects away and increasing the fiddle factor a bit. Interesting to see how it plays out. Additionally I have found that even if 0.8l can be a shy short for 2 people for say freeze dried food rehydrating, since the Jetboil boils so fast it is never a issue to boil 0.8l, let everything start soaking and then boil another 0.2 to top it off. The Jetboil boils so fast that it's never a issue to heat just a little extra.
David, I am very sanguine that this is an excellent good direction for JetBoil. Those of us in the Ultralight Community have long hoped for a MUCH lighter version of the stove that did not sacrifice too much. Until then an alcohol stove was the better option. As an Engineer I think they are getting a lot closer to the goal a much lighter version of the stove that does not sacrifice too much of what makes a JetBoil good. Warmest, -alan
Think they're trying to get more of the ultralight group. I'm doing the Colorado Trail next year and was looking to cut weight where I could and not sacrifice much so I was going to go with a different cook system. With this being half the weight as other jetboil systems I'll probably be ordering this very soon
My standard go to for several years is the Titanium Evenew Appalachian set at 5.6 ounces for everything. I was thinking about getting one ( JetBoil ) , especially liked the idea of popping corn in it . I'm sure it's a very good backpacking stove but from what I have read about customer service it was a plan killer for me.
Picked up the stash yesterday. Indoor test to boil 2 cup of water resulting in 4 or 5 grams of fuel used, scale fluctuations of 1 gram. This is fantastic compared to my original pocket rocket at 8-9 grams or my brs anywhere between 9-12 grams of fuel, both with a toaks titanium pot.

Stove does a good job of simmering. Nice control valve and it's not super high BTU which also helps the simmer. And yes the wide burner head and concavity to help with wind resistance. If it's not too cold the stove will handle a modest wind without difficulty. When it's colder it's the stoves unregulated nature and low BTU output that are it's hinderance and not so much the wind resistance of the burner head. That is, the stove will stay lit in cold + wind, albeit with long boil times. Hope this helps, -alan
The biggest query I have about this Jetboil is does the lack of a "jacket" around the pot make any difference. I am guessing it may make the stove less fuel efficient and also possibly heated food or drinks would cool more quickly? Anyway I have ordered one, already have a Jetboil Zip which is similar in that there is no regulator or piezo lighter (don't like piezo lighters as they tend to break in my experience), so will conduct some "scientific" tests. Over here in the UK the biggest problems are wind and rain, so it will be interesting to compare them. I have noticed that the benefits / problems of various stoves is often dependant on where you live. Alcohol stoves have limited usefulness here when it is windy, which is quite often. Came for the stove. Stayed for the purple space suit. 👨🚀 I would compare this to a 3oz 750ML Toaks titanium pot and 2.5oz Soto Amicus stove for $70. Seems like quite a stretch to add 2oz and $60 more dollars for this. I don’t really see alcohol stove or folks with similar systems as above flocking to this. Makes perfect sense in Jetboil’s product line, though.
Maybe for a short solo trip. On longer trips, and especially long trips I think the speed to boil, and fuel efficiency of the JetBoil would be mighty attractive. Guessing the STASH might win out for overall weight as well. Best, -alan
@@adventure_alan_co maybe a good topic for a future video! Comparing stove systems based on fuel efficiency. I would pit a Soto Amicus + Toaks 750 Lite pot against the JetBoil. Alcohol stoves over long distance is definitely not going to stack up. As soon as you’re carrying more alcohol fuel weight than a canister, it’s time to switch over.
I believe that for more than a day or two or more than one person an alcohol stove + fuel is actually heavier than a system like this due to the lower efficiency.
Thanks for the heads up on using the Mini Mo French Press attachment!! How well do the Jetboil frypans work on this stove please, since this is a year later?? I am looking at this stove because of the long burner arms for use with a frypan or larger pots.

Possibly but would not recommend it. If you got it too hot on the fire the additional heat might damage the bond between the pot and the flux ring. Best, -alan
One other comment about this great stove. I've found the exposed metal edges of the stove's FluxRing to be pretty sharp. I was concerned what those edges might do to, say my puffy. I eliminated this concern by packing the Stash inside the spare blaze orange Buff I always pack.
Good Q Kayo. Honestly, you need to stick with LNT. What I do is scoop them out with my fingers into a zip-lock baggie. Not as messy as you think. I use a very small piece of a dish cloth or pack towel wipe the last few grounds out and then shake that free of the last few attached grounds. Easier and cleaner than you think. Your other option is to do a pour-over with a filter (see my Backcountry Barista Video). In this case just pull the filter out put it in a baggie and you are done! Hope this helps, -alan

I'm not a jet boil owner yet but I've been reading the comments and someone else recommended putting the coffee grounds on top of the french press plunger instead in order to pull the grounds up. Might be another option!
Thanks Alan for the informative video. Great stove, used it a few times now on the (winter) trail to boil water (super fast) for oatmeal. The one additional purchase I did make was a related product: the Bic EZ Reach butane lighter (new as of September, 2020). It's a Bic lighter with a short flame stem that keeps your (bare or gloved) thumb knuckle safely distanced from the extremely hot burner flame. It ignites its butane using a piezoelectric spark. It weighs 23 grams vs 12 grams for Bic Mini. Its 4.5 inches long total (3 inch body + 1.5 inch flame stem). It doesn't fit inside the JetBoil Stash, but I don't pack my lighter inside my stove anyway, I put it in my pack's waist band pocket.
Nicely put together. And, having read your full review, I agree, this will sell a ton and suit most lightweight backpackers well. However, I don't see this being taken up by many UL hikers / thru-hikers. F Btw, if we want a closer volume comparison, even my Evernew 900mL and the BRS is over 80g lighter than the Stash System. When I take this out with my partner for 4-5 days I still only need 1 small canister max even though there also will be tea/coffee on the go and not just 1 hot meal per day. So I'm still ahead 80g (and ++ $$) on those trips. For lightweight solo folks doing 2 hot meals and 2 drinks per day it will get closer to a wash after a few days (I haven't done the math) and, for sure, on a longer trip itthe Stash then probably even edges ahead. But never for me with any of my real-world usage. Of course there are trade-offs for going full UL - my BRS stove for sure is more fragile and not as fuel-efficient. But I've had the same BRS for 5+ years and hundreds of boils and it's never failed yet! I do fully realize my use case won't be many folks' use case but I thought some viewers might be interested in a more UL-oriented point of view.
Thanks for a well considered response dcaudwell. All good points. Assumptions and scenarios that one runs thru with stoves matter to one's conclusion on cooking systems - stove/pot fuel efficiency, wx cold and/or windy, how much you boil per day, how many people, how many days? etc. all contribute to folks coming to different conclusions about what is the best stove system. The variations are endless.Then there's the convenience factor with faster boil times, pot stability, and simmer control which all matter but may not affect total cooking system weight. But agree that solo, with minimal cooking needs, with not too cold weather and protected from wind, and on shorter trips lighter may be better even if sacrifices boil times and convenince. Case in point is your Ti 0.9 & BRS Stove System. Even lighter would be my Trail Designs Caldera with a Toaks 900ml pot alcohol setup which allows me to skip the canister. Even so the new JB STASH stove is tempting. I am going to try and pair the pot with the Soto WindMaster Stove and see how much it improves cold and wind performance. Best, -alan

I rec'd my Fire-Maple 1L Aluminum heat exchanger pot this afternoon. I ran 3 complete comparison tests between the new heat exchanger pot & the one I've been using which is a 750ml Titanium Toaks. I have & used my Soto Windmaster stove. For all tests, I turned the stove's heat output control wide open. Yes, I added the same volume of water (24oz) that was the same temperature to both pots in all 3 comparison tests. Boil times & fuel consumption between the 2 pots were infinitesimally inconsequential. I'm planning to return the new heat exchanger pot to amazon tomorrow that I paid $32.75 for. Not what I was expecting. Adverting/Promotion claims of 25%-30% lower boil times & fuel savings have no more substance to them than the tooth fairy. Definitely not worth the added cost or weight. Curiously, Soto hasn't marketed any Heat Exchanger type of pots to compete against the Jetboil Stash system which is specifically designed for solo hikers/backpackers/thru-hikers. Considering that Soto is THE company that first introduced fuel-efficient stoves with "Regulators" you'd think if heat exchanger pots actually resulted in lower boil times & significant fuel savings they would have been one of the first companies to introduce heat exchangers on their pots. That SHOULD tell you something. Just a thought/observation. I'm hoping others will compare the pot they've been using with an aftermarket Heat Exchanger type of pot. I eagerly look forward to their test results.
AZ Claimjumper, thanks for your comments. We have to admit we are more than a bit confused about your seeing no difference between a heat exchanger pot and a standard pot. Your observations seem to be in direct contraction to well done test data (and many, many tests) from a number of reputable sources including the manufacturers (like JetBoil) which could be liable for false claims. Our testing here (dozens of tests) with the JetBoil Pots, and the Olicamp XTR pot (which looks remarkably similar to your Fire Maple) shows they clearly outperform standard non-heat exchanger pots like a 900 ml Toaks by a significant amount (boil times and fuel efficiency) using exactly the same burner. Most especially in cold and even more so with cold and wind. Finally, that Soto has not made a heat exchanger pot does not indicate that this technology does not work and/or have an advantage over a flat bottomed pot. Best, -alan
I would say pots with heat exchangers will be more fuel efficient but not enough to be worth the extra weight. Only under circumstances where you need lots of fuel (very long trips, sharing pot in a group...) the fuel efficiency wins out over the added weight
It's still in there. I pulled the upper portion of the shaft so that there was a small hole in the top of the lid (using the FP shaft hole) for air to get in for an easy pour. Subsequently I have drilled an small extra hole so you don't have to pull the top portion of the shaft to get a good pour. And FWIW all other JetBoil lids have extra holes (besides the FP hole and the pour spout). For some reason they forgot to do this on rev. 1 of the Stash Lid. Easily fixed tho. Best, -alan

I must say that color is very distracting, I'm usually on hunting trips, even in freezing weather, and I usually wear more subdued colors, however if her were to be injured in that get up or lost, he would be found very quickly. I bet that coffee was perfect in that freezing weather.
Close but not really. The diameter is the same but the height is different so the sleeve is a bit tall. As such it might be too close to the flux ring. And the handle on the STASH gets in the way, altho you could cut that part away. Best, -alan
I really wish you did a fuel consumption test. I've seen other UA-camrs who did and compared to the popular MSR Pocket Rocket, fuel consumption was half for the same amount of water even though the boil time was not impressive. Over the long term, you save money on fuel which is a merit you should mention. If I was starting out, this would be on top of the list. But I have all the stoves I need for now. BTW, my gen 1 Jetboil (before the Flash) still works. I mainly use it for camping, not backpacking.
I have done all the fuel consumption testing in warm temps, cold temps, and the killer cold + wind. This is on the Stash, as well as other JetBoil Stoves, and their competition, Pocket Rocket (Standard & Deluxe), the SOTO Windmaster, etc. There are some interesting stories in there when you look at the cold + wind tests. I have the FLASH and read about the STASH. Apparently you can't simmer well with the STASH. For boiling water it is much cheaper to keep using the FLASH vs $130+ dollars for this new model. For you folks who do 6-10+ miles or more a day backpacking, I don't think the extra ounces of the ZIP or FLASH will hinder your endurance.
Can you do an experiment with curing the radiator to insert the stove closer to the pot to get it more wind resistant and more stable-standing while using?
We have experimented with notched heat exchanger pots and find that the notches can be helpful, but do not make a world of difference. With the Stash pot in particular, the base is quite thin and messing with the flame/pot base alignment could be risky/damage the device, especially if you switch out the burner for a higher BTU unit.
@@Утконос-г5д Our hypothesis is that yes, it would make the Stash more efficient and improve wind resistance, which is one its key weaknesses. It might also cause damage, and is not recommended by the manufacturer.
Wow, these guys did quite a marketing job. This is the 4th “unpack” video I’ve seen today of this product. So they send free samples to all you guys and give everyone the chance to be the first!!
To call this an "unpacking" video is pretty unfair since it includes a full description, is accompanied by an article complete with features list, boil times and comparisons with other models, not to mention that he is literally in the field using it during the video. Jetboil indeed might have marketed and timed several reviews well, but this review is hardly a rushed press release.

Found one at a Dick's Sporting Goods around where I live today. Did a quick test when I got home and this seems like a great piece of gear. This will replace my older Flash for backpacking stoves. I think it's a great balance of ultralight needs without sacrificing a solid gear kit. Stash + Fuel + Lighter I measure about 12.3 ounces.
Do you need to pre-order it from jetboil at this point. I just did a quick scan a few minutes ago and doesn’t seem like any major US retailer is offering it for sale.
I am not aware of JB selling spares. Actually the stove does decently and continues to operate in a direct (measured) a 5mp wind, which better than the Flash which struggles to stay lit. It's only the combo of wind and cold where the STASH struggles. Even then it stays lit - it just takes a long time to boil. More info is in our written post. Usually i go with my soto winmaster (with triflex stand), 100 gram canister and 550 titanium pot with lid. That lasts me more than a week and is lighter than the jetboil system. So when would i use this? Maybe when hiking with a group and sharing the setup? Maybe i should test flux ring pots for melting snow with my whisperlight for winter camping.

You can but you need to leave the orange fuel-canister stabilizer feet out. They aren't strictly necessary and there are alternatives that will fit in the pot with the java kit. Best, -alan
You can use any size canister (they go up to 16 oz) just so long as it uses the SAME valve. But if you are asking of the tall, green "Coleman" canisters work, they do not. They have a different value and a different fuel. Best, -alan
the jet boil pot is a copy of the Olicamp 1ltr pot with fins at the bottom that l brought 2017 and with my windmaster stove is just as quick if not faster then the jetboil the Olicamp pot had a silicone lid measurement's on the inside and was made of Anodized alu cost 20 pounds one more thing why give money out for a modern copy that worked just as well
Hey Barrie, no doubt that the WindMaster 4Flex with the Olicamp XTSPOT is a solid combo with good performance and *if you take weight out of consideration*, it's a better value. Altho the combo is only 28% less expensive than the STASH, $93 vs $130. But where the FLEX excels is in overall weight. At 7 oz vs. the 11.5 oz of the WindMaster XTSPOT combo (I actually have a XTSPOT in front of me as I write). That weight savings adds up to a lot! For the same overall weight (canister+stove+pot) you could bring an 8 oz canister for the FLEX vs only a 4 oz canister for the WindMaster XTSPOT combo. Thus boiling 2x the amount of water with the FLEX vs. the for the same total system weight of the WindMaster XTSPOT combo with 4 oz canister. Or around a 12L advantage for the FLEX. In the end, overall weight matters and the extra $37 may be well spent. Best, -alan Oh, and the FLEX has liquid amount measuring marks on the side as well.
Actually it pours just fine. You just need to pull the center shaft on on the press before pouring. Or better, make a small extra hole in the lid. Best, -alan
There are advantages in terms of fuel efficiency in favor of the JetBoil. And even more if want to make a pot of french press coffee in the morning. And the PR Deluxe stove has a pressure regulator which will have better cold Wx performance. Best, -alan
Darren. Look on Amazon for the Fire Maple FMC Pot. It’s got the “flux ring” on the bottom, and a cup that acts as a lid. But I’ve ditched that in favour of a folding Silicon cup. It comes in its own sack. The Trangia Spirit Stove will fit inside it, along with the Silicon cup. It costs £24.99, (UK Sterling). It boils 500mils of water on my Trangia in 4 minutes 40 seconds. 1 minute 30 seconds with my Soto Windmaster gas stove. It brilliant, and cheaper than the Jetboil!
Don't touch this new Stash with a barge pole, and buy the Micromo instead! Its a no brainer! Micromo has same 0.8ltr capacity, and is regulated where the Stash is not. Micromo connects to stove base and can be suspended, Stash cannot. Micromo boils 15 seconds quicker at 2mins 15 secs to Stash's 2mins 30 secs. Micromo has secondary base cup for measuring, or as a second vessel, Stash does not! If you want to use either system as a cup the Micromo has a normal cup style handle with cosy, the Stash has a hugely annoying horizontal handle and no cosy (how naff!). Looking at the RRP the Micromo is typically £110 and the Stash £30 more expensive. Now look at the wider market for similar stoves (you have mentioned the MSR Pocket Rocket Deluxe Kit at £100! which is £40 cheaper than the Stash!!) and you will find a vast array, that will compete with the Micromo on functionality, for half the price!! let alone beat the Stash into oblivion on functionality for 1/3 (Look at Alpkit systems!!) of the price!! What is Jetboil thinking! They must be so out of touch with reality its incredible!!..ok so a caveat to all this, if you really are that anal about saving 5oz, or 140g to sacrifice so much feature and functionality, and pay through the nose for it, go right ahead, but by the time you add a lighter/firesteel + wind screen that weight saving claimed will be next to nothing...and what the heck is so ingenious about being able to clip the cannister to the lid! Absolutely pointless!!
Hi Jedi. First take a look at our more comprehensive written review (link in the comments). It covers most of your points, especially in the "Compared to Section." And we have done the testing in the field and the lab to have measures of the quantitative performance differences between the STASH and the MiniMo. So what JetBoil was thinking of was to create a very light stove system for the *average backpacker in 3-season conditions* - milder temps and protected from strong winds. Not bad assumptions for the average hiker. In this case they can save 1/2 the weight of the cooking system. In this I think they have done well to meet the needs of the majority of casual backpackers, which is to say most backpackers. BUT... Like you for cold and windy conditions we also prefer a "Mo." In our case he MiniMo (we feel the extra oz is worth it for capacity and better form factor on the pot). It was the stove we took to traverse the Southern Patagonia Ice Shelf, and the stove we take winter backpacking in the Appalachians - altho we did manage to get the STASH to work fine in winter Appalachia albeit with a bit slower boil times. I am guessing it may make the stove less fuel efficient and also possibly heated food or drinks would cool more quickly? Anyway I have ordered one, already have a Jetboil Zip which is similar in that there is no regulator or piezo lighter (don't like piezo lighters as they tend to break in my experience), so will conduct some "scientific" tests. Over here in the UK the biggest problems are wind and rain, so it will be interesting to compare them. I have noticed that the benefits / problems of various stoves is often dependant on where you live. Alcohol stoves have limited usefulness here when it is windy, which is quite often. I would compare this to a 3oz 750ML Toaks titanium pot and 2.5oz Soto Amicus stove for $70. Seems like quite a stretch to add 2oz and $60 more dollars for this.
I don’t really see alcohol stove or folks with similar systems as above flocking to this. Makes perfect sense in Jetboil’s product line, though.
Maybe for a short solo trip. On longer trips, and especially long trips I think the speed to boil, and fuel efficiency of the JetBoil would be mighty attractive. Guessing the STASH might win out for overall weight as well. Best, -alan

Alcohol stoves over long distance is definitely not going to stack up. As soon as you’re carrying more alcohol fuel weight than a canister, it’s time to switch over.
I believe that for more than a day or two or more than one person an alcohol stove + fuel is actually heavier than a system like this due to the lower efficiency.

Possibly but would not recommend it. If you got it too hot on the fire the additional heat might damage the bond between the pot and the flux ring. Best, -alan
One other comment about this great stove. I've found the exposed metal edges of the stove's FluxRing to be pretty sharp. I was concerned what those edges might do to, say my puffy. I eliminated this concern by packing the Stash inside the spare blaze orange Buff I always pack.

Good Q Kayo. Honestly, you need to stick with LNT. What I do is scoop them out with my fingers into a zip-lock baggie. Not as messy as you think. I use a very small piece of a dish cloth or pack towel wipe the last few grounds out and then shake that free of the last few attached grounds. Easier and cleaner than you think.
Your other option is to do a pour-over with a filter (see my Backcountry Barista Video). In this case just pull the filter out put it in a baggie and you are done! Hope this helps, -alan

I'm not a jet boil owner yet but I've been reading the comments and someone else recommended putting the coffee grounds on top of the french press plunger instead in order to pull the grounds up. Might be another option!

Thanks Alan for the informative video. Great stove, used it a few times now on the (winter) trail to boil water (super fast) for oatmeal. The one additional purchase I did make was a related product: the Bic EZ Reach butane lighter (new as of September, 2020). It's a Bic lighter with a short flame stem that keeps your (bare or gloved) thumb knuckle safely distanced from the extremely hot burner flame. It ignites its butane using a piezoelectric spark. It weighs 23 grams vs 12 grams for Bic Mini. Its 4.5 inches long total (3 inch body + 1.5 inch flame stem). It doesn't fit inside the JetBoil Stash, but I don't pack my lighter inside my stove anyway, I put it in my pack's waist band pocket.
Good tip. We like and use the same short stem Bic or most of our trips. Way easier to operate. Best, -alan

Btw, if we want a closer volume comparison, even my Evernew 900mL and the BRS is over 80g lighter than the Stash System. When I take this out with my partner for 4-5 days I still only need 1 small canister max even though there also will be tea/coffee on the go and not just 1 hot meal per day. So I'm still ahead 80g (and ++ $$) on those trips.
For lightweight solo folks doing 2 hot meals and 2 drinks per day it will get closer to a wash after a few days (I haven't done the math) and, for sure, on a longer trip itthe Stash then probably even edges ahead. But never for me with any of my real-world usage.
Of course there are trade-offs for going full UL - my BRS stove for sure is more fragile and not as fuel-efficient. But I've had the same BRS for 5+ years and hundreds of boils and it's never failed yet! I do fully realize my use case won't be many folks' use case but I thought some viewers might be interested in a more UL-oriented point of view.
Thanks for a well considered response dcaudwell. All good points. Assumptions and scenarios that one runs thru with stoves matter to one's conclusion on cooking systems - stove/pot fuel efficiency, wx cold and/or windy, how much you boil per day, how many people, how many days? etc. all contribute to folks coming to different conclusions about what is the best stove system. The variations are endless.Then there's the convenience factor with faster boil times, pot stability, and simmer control which all matter but may not affect total cooking system weight.
But agree that solo, with minimal cooking needs, with not too cold weather and protected from wind, and on shorter trips lighter may be better even if sacrifices boil times and convenince. Case in point is your Ti 0.9 & BRS Stove System. Even lighter would be my Trail Designs Caldera with a Toaks 900ml pot alcohol setup which allows me to skip the canister. Even so the new JB STASH stove is tempting. I am going to try and pair the pot with the Soto WindMaster Stove and see how much it improves cold and wind performance. Best, -alan

I rec'd my Fire-Maple 1L Aluminum heat exchanger pot this afternoon.
I ran 3 complete comparison tests between the new heat exchanger pot & the one I've been using which is a 750ml Titanium Toaks.
I have & used my Soto Windmaster stove. For all tests, I turned the stove's heat output control wide open. Yes, I added the same volume of water (24oz) that was the same temperature to both pots in all 3 comparison tests.
Boil times & fuel consumption between the 2 pots were infinitesimally inconsequential.
I'm planning to return the new heat exchanger pot to amazon tomorrow that I paid $32.75 for.
Not what I was expecting. Adverting/Promotion claims of 25%-30% lower boil times & fuel savings have no more substance to them than the tooth fairy. Definitely not worth the added cost or weight.
Curiously, Soto hasn't marketed any Heat Exchanger type of pots to compete against the Jetboil Stash system which is specifically designed for solo hikers/backpackers/thru-hikers. Considering that Soto is THE company that first introduced fuel-efficient stoves with "Regulators" you'd think if heat exchanger pots actually resulted in lower boil times & significant fuel savings they would have been one of the first companies to introduce heat exchangers on their pots. That SHOULD tell you something. Just a thought/observation.
I'm hoping others will compare the pot they've been using with an aftermarket Heat Exchanger type of pot. I eagerly look forward to their test results.
AZ Claimjumper, thanks for your comments. We have to admit we are more than a bit confused about your seeing no difference between a heat exchanger pot and a standard pot. Your observations seem to be in direct contraction to well done test data (and many, many tests) from a number of reputable sources including the manufacturers (like JetBoil) which could be liable for false claims. Our testing here (dozens of tests) with the JetBoil Pots, and the Olicamp XTR pot (which looks remarkably similar to your Fire Maple) shows they clearly outperform standard non-heat exchanger pots like a 900 ml Toaks by a significant amount (boil times and fuel efficiency) using exactly the same burner. Most especially in cold and even more so with cold and wind. Finally, that Soto has not made a heat exchanger pot does not indicate that this technology does not work and/or have an advantage over a flat bottomed pot. Best, -alan
I would say pots with heat exchangers will be more fuel efficient but not enough to be worth the extra weight.
Only under circumstances where you need lots of fuel (very long trips, sharing pot in a group...) the fuel efficiency wins out over the added weight
What happened to the french press plunger when it was time to pour the coffee? It movie-magically vanished
It's still in there. I pulled the upper portion of the shaft so that there was a small hole in the top of the lid (using the FP shaft hole) for air to get in for an easy pour. Subsequently I have drilled an small extra hole so you don't have to pull the top portion of the shaft to get a good pour. And FWIW all other JetBoil lids have extra holes (besides the FP hole and the pour spout). For some reason they forgot to do this on rev. 1 of the Stash Lid. Easily fixed tho. Best, -alan

I must say that color is very distracting, I'm usually on hunting trips, even in freezing weather, and I usually wear more subdued colors, however if her were to be injured in that get up or lost, he would be found very quickly. I bet that coffee was perfect in that freezing weather.

Close but not really. The diameter is the same but the height is different so the sleeve is a bit tall. As such it might be too close to the flux ring. And the handle on the STASH gets in the way, altho you could cut that part away. Best, -alan
I really wish you did a fuel consumption test. I've seen other UA-camrs who did and compared to the popular MSR Pocket Rocket, fuel consumption was half for the same amount of water even though the boil time was not impressive. Over the long term, you save money on fuel which is a merit you should mention.
If I was starting out, this would be on top of the list. But I have all the stoves I need for now. BTW, my gen 1 Jetboil (before the Flash) still works. I mainly use it for camping, not backpacking.
I have done all the fuel consumption testing in warm temps, cold temps, and the killer cold + wind. This is on the Stash, as well as other JetBoil Stoves, and their competition, Pocket Rocket (Standard & Deluxe), the SOTO Windmaster, etc. There are some interesting stories in there when you look at the cold + wind tests. I have the FLASH and read about the STASH. Apparently you can't simmer well with the STASH. For boiling water it is much cheaper to keep using the FLASH vs $130+ dollars for this new model. For you folks who do 6-10+ miles or more a day backpacking, I don't think the extra ounces of the ZIP or FLASH will hinder your endurance.

Can you do an experiment with curing the radiator to insert the stove closer to the pot to get it more wind resistant and more stable-standing while using?
We have experimented with notched heat exchanger pots and find that the notches can be helpful, but do not make a world of difference. With the Stash pot in particular, the base is quite thin and messing with the flame/pot base alignment could be risky/damage the device, especially if you switch out the burner for a higher BTU unit.

To call this an "unpacking" video is pretty unfair since it includes a full description, is accompanied by an article complete with features list, boil times and comparisons with other models, not to mention that he is literally in the field using it during the video. Jetboil indeed might have marketed and timed several reviews well, but this review is hardly a rushed press release.

Found one at a Dick's Sporting Goods around where I live today. Did a quick test when I got home and this seems like a great piece of gear. This will replace my older Flash for backpacking stoves. I think it's a great balance of ultralight needs without sacrificing a solid gear kit. Stash + Fuel + Lighter I measure about 12.3 ounces.

I am not aware of JB selling spares. Actually the stove does decently and continues to operate in a direct (measured) a 5mp wind, which better than the Flash which struggles to stay lit. It's only the combo of wind and cold where the STASH struggles. Even then it stays lit - it just takes a long time to boil. More info is in our written post. Question: now that you have it in your possession - are other gas canisters (Coleman, Primus, even MSR) compatible with the legs and the top cover (i.e. can I also clip in other canisters the way this one clips to the top?)? Usually i go with my soto winmaster (with triflex stand), 100 gram canister and 550 titanium pot with lid. That lasts me more than a week and is lighter than the jetboil system.
So when would i use this? Maybe when hiking with a group and sharing the setup?

You can but you need to leave the orange fuel-canister stabilizer feet out. They aren't strictly necessary and there are alternatives that will fit in the pot with the java kit. Best, -alan

You can use any size canister (they go up to 16 oz) just so long as it uses the SAME valve. But if you are asking of the tall, green "Coleman" canisters work, they do not. They have a different value and a different fuel. Best, -alan

the jet boil pot is a copy of the Olicamp 1ltr pot with fins at the bottom that l brought 2017
and with my windmaster stove is just as quick if not faster then the jetboil
the Olicamp pot had a silicone lid measurement's on the inside and was made of Anodized alu cost 20 pounds one more thing
why give money out for a modern copy that worked just as well
Hey Barrie, no doubt that the WindMaster 4Flex with the Olicamp XTSPOT is a solid combo with good performance and *if you take weight out of consideration*, it's a better value. Altho the combo is only 28% less expensive than the STASH, $93 vs $130. But where the FLEX excels is in overall weight. At 7 oz vs. the 11.5 oz of the WindMaster XTSPOT combo (I actually have a XTSPOT in front of me as I write). That weight savings adds up to a lot! For the same overall weight (canister+stove+pot) you could bring an 8 oz canister for the FLEX vs only a 4 oz canister for the WindMaster XTSPOT combo. Thus boiling 2x the amount of water with the FLEX vs. the for the same total system weight of the WindMaster XTSPOT combo with 4 oz canister. Or around a 12L advantage for the FLEX. In the end, overall weight matters and the extra $37 may be well spent. Best, -alan

Actually it pours just fine. You just need to pull the center shaft on on the press before pouring. Or better, make a small extra hole in the lid. Best, -alan

There are advantages in terms of fuel efficiency in favor of the JetBoil. And even more if want to make a pot of french press coffee in the morning. And the PR Deluxe stove has a pressure regulator which will have better cold Wx performance. Best, -alan

Darren. Look on Amazon for the Fire Maple FMC Pot. It’s got the “flux ring” on the bottom, and a cup that acts as a lid. But I’ve ditched that in favour of a folding Silicon cup. It comes in its own sack. The Trangia Spirit Stove will fit inside it, along with the Silicon cup. It costs £24.99, (UK Sterling). It boils 500mils of water on my Trangia in 4 minutes 40 seconds. 1 minute 30 seconds with my Soto Windmaster gas stove. It brilliant, and cheaper than the Jetboil!
Don't touch this new Stash with a barge pole, and buy the Micromo instead! Its a no brainer! Micromo has same 0.8ltr capacity, and is regulated where the Stash is not. Micromo connects to stove base and can be suspended, Stash cannot. Micromo boils 15 seconds quicker at 2mins 15 secs to Stash's 2mins 30 secs. Micromo has secondary base cup for measuring, or as a second vessel, Stash does not! If you want to use either system as a cup the Micromo has a normal cup style handle with cosy, the Stash has a hugely annoying horizontal handle and no cosy (how naff!). Looking at the RRP the Micromo is typically £110 and the Stash £30 more expensive. Now look at the wider market for similar stoves (you have mentioned the MSR Pocket Rocket Deluxe Kit at £100! which is £40 cheaper than the Stash!!) and you will find a vast array, that will compete with the Micromo on functionality, for half the price!! let alone beat the Stash into oblivion on functionality for 1/3 (Look at Alpkit systems!!) of the price!! What is Jetboil thinking! They must be so out of touch with reality its incredible!!..ok so a caveat to all this, if you really are that anal about saving 5oz, or 140g to sacrifice so much feature and functionality, and pay through the nose for it, go right ahead, but by the time you add a lighter/firesteel + wind screen that weight saving claimed will be next to nothing...and what the heck is so ingenious about being able to clip the cannister to the lid! Absolutely pointless!!
Hi Jedi. First take a look at our more comprehensive written review (link in the comments). It covers most of your points, especially in the "Compared to Section." And we have done the testing in the field and the lab to have measures of the quantitative performance differences between the STASH and the MiniMo. So what JetBoil was thinking of was to create a very light stove system for the *average backpacker in 3-season conditions* - milder temps and protected from strong winds. Not bad assumptions for the average hiker. In this case they can save 1/2 the weight of the cooking system. In this I think they have done well to meet the needs of the majority of casual backpackers, which is to say most backpackers. BUT...
Like you for cold and windy conditions we also prefer a "Mo." In our case he MiniMo (we feel the extra oz is worth it for capacity and better form factor on the pot). It was the stove we took to traverse the Southern Patagonia Ice Shelf, and the stove we take winter backpacking in the Appalachians - altho we did manage to get the STASH to work fine in winter Appalachia albeit with a bit slower boil times.
