    About me:
Hi, I'm Harry, and I'm intensely passionate about personality typing and self-development - so much so that I have created my own Jung-inspired system, taking a more high-resolution look at the factors making up personality.
Through Cognitive Personality Theory I examine the underlying mechanisms behind cognition, and the means through which a single type can have limitless individual variation - I believe type itself is just a set of cognitive predispositions that can according to the needs of the situation be overcome.
I don't believe any type is limited in what they can achieve, but have noticed sensationalist attitudes and internet trends propagating a culture in which type-development is actively discouraged in favour of conforming to simplistic archetypes. Through CPT I hope to dispel various myths and oversimplifications of what constitutes personality type, and along the way encourage a healthier attitude towards type that allows a person to become not who they are told they are, but rather who they want to be.

She tells me that she daydreams about Micheal Jackson and her together but I told her that he’s already dead and she’s like noooooo. INFP being INFP.

I found the MBTI personality test really helpful. For the longest time, I had so much difficulty understanding myself. I could solve other people's problems - but why not my own? I was in a constant war with myself. Why am I acting this way? Why do I think this way? Am I a bad, selfish person? These were questions that flooded my mind all the time.
After finding out about MBTI, I've been able to understand myself more and become more lenient with myself.
MBTI should not dictate your life, but rather take it more as a tool to help yourself and others to further improve our understandings of each other and ourselves and use that as a starting point.

I've only ever gotten INTJ or INFJ on those online tests, but neither type ever really felt right to me. After looking at cognitive functions for not very long at all, I came to the conclusion that I'm almost definitely an ISFP type. I am never out of touch with my feelings, I always know what they are and why. And I am always aware of my environment, and perceive it accurately. I notice details, and I've been told my memory is almost photographic. This sounds like Fi/Se to me. I could never relate to the descriptions of INTJs and INFJs about how flummoxed they are by their feelings, or how detached they are from them. I've never asked myself 'how do I feel about X". I always know, usually quite quickly, and I cry and laugh easily and often. Furthermore, the description of Ni just never seemed all that crystal clear to me, so if it was my first function, I feel like I would respond to it more strongly.
As much as the S types seem to be sort of looked down upon by 'intuitives', the ISFP type is the one that seems like a proper fit for me. I think I should have an accurate assessment of my type, even if it isn't one of the 'cool' ones, if I hope to get anything out of this at all.

I think this is another difficulty for any sort of self-typing. There are certain functions that are just “cool” or written in ways that people will want to have. Sensors in particular get the short end of the stick in almost every type description, either because they sound boring (istjs for example) or stupid meatheads (ESTP). People will always be drawn to things that tell them they’re smart and unique and caring over being dumb, boring, and uncaring.

9:37 "... channels and people that propagate stereotypes based upon cognitive functions aren't doing the world a service." This is very revealing. It is somewhat an elephant in the room statement and I am glad you have said it. I see another version of it also type shaming. XYZA is "bad" because of this. Certainly isn't doing the world much of a service either.
It seems personality traits and cognitive functions are not as strongly correlated as I might want to believe. My OCEAN score has me with high OEA which is what I would expect of an ENFP though it might not correlate for all ENFPs. In the past when I was suffering clinical depress I certainly would not have had openness and extraversion expressing. During that time of life I typed INFP, 25 years ago. I also wonder if I changed over time.
None of my friends or acquaintances think much about typology. No thoughts about the functions and with that somewhat a challenge to access if typing is accurate. I know two more people that recently typed INFJA via 16personalities. Both appear quite extroverted though this maybe my assessment of their assertive behaviour and that I have a bias. I do not know if they are correctly typed as we haven't sat and discussed it. It might occur with one I get to dive deeper into this.
From your study and discussions I have changed my thoughts of MBTI as no longer a measure of personality much at all. I view it more as a framework of the inner workings of our minds, a scaffolding, and that significantly more factors are involved in personality. These assemble upon the scaffolding such as intelligences, sensitivity, family of origin, life events, appearance, race, religion etc ...all these are going to be significant in causality of the person anyone becomes.
We are myriad and nuanced. I wish people used these ideas more for understanding an individual's significance with a focus towards empowerment and wholeness.
I am particularly bothered by the type policing that goes on, feels wrong on many levels. I avoid them as I never feel good watching them.

Thanks for the wonderful comment! As you say, there are so many nuances to personality that assigning a code based upon behaviour alone just doesn't cut it.

An elderly woman came up to me and asked if I was alright. She had observed me for a while and said I had not blinked for seemingly eternities. She was worried I might be suicidal. It caught me off guard, I had no idea my motionless stare would be worrisome to other people. Also, I usually blink a lot and I do not notice when my blinking starts to shift to hibernation mode, appearantly caused by going into full mode Ni...

This makes a lot of sense. I've always been more intrigued with the cognitive side of mbti, not so much the behavioral side of it.
When I was younger I used to take advantage and influence others with my ability to come up with random universal theories on everything, so every time I would read labels about how INFJs are natural born counselors and advocates just ready to save the world, that typing never resonated with me. Your definition of what it means to be an infj is much more accurate and relatable.

  • @morbidgirl6808
    @morbidgirl6808 4 роки тому +9

INFJs are rare because Ni is usually interpreted from Te not Ti. But INFJ uses Ti instead of Te, which is interesting. INFJ stare is very awkward. My mom always think opposite of what am I think and literally accuses me of something I don't want to. Lots of people told me that I have beautiful eyes with...creepy stare. Lol. I even got phone numbers from guys just because of my gaze. Girls thought I was lesbian because of my gaze. Hahaha.
Most of times, I even don't know what am I feeling. My mom is ISFJ and she always tell me that I have mood swings. I had no clue about it. I guess I was using Ni too much. Ni isn't necessarily everyone expects to be but it can be interpreted as "nothing" and it's mostly in unconscious part.
I used to be mistyped as INTP and INTJ on tests before I studied cognitive functions. I realized I had developed Ti. Mistyped Ne/Te users are actually Ni-Ti users because Ni mostly works with Te (INTJ) and Ti mostly works with Ne (INTP). There is flexibility in Ni-Ti which is one of reasons why do INFJs get mistyped as INTP or INTJs. INFJs also get mistyped as INFPs if they are artistic rather than academic. INFJs may be judging type but they are actually perceiving based on Ni-Fe. That's why they seem to be agreeable in conversations even if they disagree indirectly.

Rarity is the reason why do INFJs feel like they don't belong to the world and try to fit into it. Like I always been different from everyone in my family, school, college, society and community. That's why I felt like a rare breed. I hated it very much and I tried so hard to be what others are.
INFJs knows that being rare is a curse. Most of them would say that they are not special when everyone calls them special. INFPs would say that they are special when everyone don't call them special.

That's one of the problems. We're described in rosy terms and then everyone wants to identify as one--which minimizes our existential pain. I've heard it said, and tend to agree, that INFJs can be rather cold--not great maternal types, if such a measure could be used to evaluate femininity. As for a more deliberate conscious Ni, that I relate to more. Maybe some of it was subconscious at first. After learning about it though, I consciously use it a lot and everyday. My INTJ significant other is the same way. In fact, one of the things that we love about each other, is that we both naturally understand each other when sharing our Ni observations (hidden meanings and patterns). I run into quite a few people online that don’t necessarily relate to my experiences.

Thanks Jaime! Yes indeed, conscious Ni in a dominant role has a deliberate nature to it, and so often doesn't match the hazy unconscious descriptions of the function found across the internet.
I also love the INFJ-INTJ intuitive bond - many, many differences but sharing a dominant function definitely puts two people on a similar wavelength.

Great overview. I think it's good that people know the differences in the systems, especially when some piggyback off of others like in the case of 16P.
One small distinction though in terms of terminology is that Big 5 is a "Trait" model, not technically behavioral (in that it measures a specific trait in a quantitative way). Your description of the behavioral approach though was very good in how it differs from the cognitive approach. Another reason 16P is so wierd is that it applies not only MBTI terminology but also behaviors to measured traits. It's a bit of a mess, it cant decide what it is. The original Big 5 measurements did no such thing and didn't attribute behaviors to catagories of scores. The only one that's really done that decent is Jordan Peterson's in which he applied very general behavior descriptions to quantitative typologies of each score (such as very low through very high).
Either way, great video and an important discussion. I am hopeful more people will decide to view things from the cognitive approach in the future.

Cheers man, glad you enjoyed it!
I'd like to discuss in more depth with you at some point where you believe trait ends and behaviour begins. I certainly wouldn't allign the Big 5 with cognition to the same degree as cognitive functions etc, but I do see where you're coming from, especially in regards to the behavioral percentages and stereotypes of 16P.

Thank you for this video. I am a 53 year old man that only recently took the personality test to discover I was an INFJ. I found it very insightful and that led me to explore a whole lot of new things and I believe I have become a more authentic person as a result. I was shocked to discover how many INFJ videos there are on UA-cam. After a watching a few I tuned out but this one got my attention. After watching it I searched for the cognitive test to see if my result would be different as you suggested. I did several different online quizzes to discover that I tested as INFJ on some and INFT on others . the questions were much harder to answer on these as I found myself struggling with the options as I felt I could choose several different answers and still be true. I agree 100% that you should not try to be what anyone tells you. But I also think that from my stand point it has helped me to embrace and explore aspects of my personality that I had tried to block out in many ways. So there is value in that. I always knew I was different but I didn't truly value it or understand it. I believe that it is rare personality for a reason but none the less important to contribute to the overall fabric of a society . I would suggest to other INFJ types don't shy away from leadership if it comes your way.

yay this video is great! I've been bugging out because so many of the INFJ videos seem to talk exactly about my experience as an ISTJ. Being super exhausted socially, feeling weird like no body understands you and not wanting to know anyone unless you can know them completely on a soul to soul kind of level. All IxTJs feel like that too. Of course we want to help our friends with their problems and downplay our own emotional needs, that's Te protecting fragile Fi. In the MBTI community, though, IxTJs get stereotyped as being overly analytical and severe as if anyone in your life who's ever made you follow a bogus rule is an ISTJ. Stop abusing the Fi children 😂

wow. Thank you. This makes me feel much better about being odd. Most of my experiences go like this: I try to share something I see, recognize, perceive, feel, and am considered a rebel against the status quo or negative or insightful but strange, and sometimes simply wrong. And then as time goes by, usually starting about six months but as far out as five years, people will return and tell me they were glad for what I asked or said because it led them to a better place personally. They will also share that what I said would happen actually came to fruition. Sometimes, this gift scares me, but it always feels like a burden. At least so far. And don't get me wrong. I don't claim to be able to predict the future or be brilliant or that anyone should consider me the answer to anything at all. I simply see patterns. I spot trends. I feel rooms and energies. And often, what I sense connects with something else, and with something else, and I see an opportunity, or a danger, or an assumption that needs to be challenged or tested. Most people don't seem to want to think about these kinds of things, and I think a lot of the times, there is an underlying unspoken belief that a woman shouldn't be the one seeing or saying. If I was a man, I would be more believable.

    • @CognitivePersonalityTheory

I resonate with this experience a lot! @@CognitivePersonalityTheory I find the entp enfp difference very interesting from a politcal point of view. From what I've percieved in politics, especially in modern liberals (talking about U.S. democrats mostly and people following a similar ideology. Alternativly european greens). They seem to often have, in their argumentation, a very fi-te approach. And what I mean with that is that they usually have a value (mostly being humanstic which leads them to want to save the refugees, be feminists etc.) And they usually search for facts that back off their values instead of looking what logicially makes sense and is the best approach to solve problems of the whole society (which I'd see as ti-fe approach). Generally speaking I'd say fi-te will often look for a value and back them off with facts and ti-fe would rather take a logical approach to solving general problems of society.
To me it makes therefore sense that there are more enfps than entps because you need lesser innovaters for the general public. Fi takes a more personal approach and therefore tends to be more concerned in solving problems in a smaller frame.
A study about cognitive functions and politics would bei actually rather interesting. Maybe the with a few more sensors in the government, our countries might work better as they are more likely to stop talking and start doing things, like Greta Thunberg would wish ;)

I think the devils advocate/debater stereotype holds definitly some truth. However being a good debater is not always good to leading a country. And an intuitive whoe doesn't ratify those ideas and is more so the talker than the doer might not always be the best as well. @@taugamhorrsod8972 I'm such a troll when it comes to politics. I think it's because It exercises my brain and it's one arena where I usually can drum up a debate. I'm personally very conservative, but I don't identify with either democrats or Republicans in the US. I can gladly take people through a worm hole of logical associations to demonstrate how our political world is not what it seems.
The average person I run into is so unequiped to unravel the truth, that the best I can give them is a roadmap to how they can discover it for themselves, leaving it at that.
The system is simply rigged to divide people. And therfore, it seems simple minded to accept one party over another based purely on ones partisan viewpoint. Take global warming for instance. Both sides have been programed with propaganda as to obscure a greater reality. And that's pollution. Pollution and chemical poisoning will kill us off faster than CO2 ever will. You see, pollution is a concern that would unify everyone. But taxing the world based carbon and conflicting science is much more polarizing.
In my mind it would be difficult at best to make the MBTI political connection because I think we live in a contrived matrix to keep the controlling oligarchy in power. Sure it's interesting on a purely superficial scale, and not without merit, but it bores me to tears because of my awareness.
Harry has a great video on the empathic nature of ENTP's. It doesn't take me long to pick up on the general mood of a person or group. I recognize the emotion, although I don't think I internalize it like a I think some INFJ'S seem to do, although after this video I'm wondering if it's the behavioral or cognitive. The difference may be what I do with my information. My life was once rife with obstacles and I spent a vast amount of time working through each one. This gave me some empirical knowledge and insight on how to problem solve a myriad of problems. I became an RN and learned more about human behavior hands on, giving me further information.
So I help people traverse what ever difficulty they may be facing by offering a perspective they may have missed. Its logical to try to help people avoid pain. Misery loves company, and helping one person can prevent the ripple effect that a person in pain can generate.
By the way, if your a true ENTP don't go into nursing. You'll get in more trouble than you can ever imagine. If you think the average ISFJ in nursing respects honest evaluation, think again, lol.

Being highly aware and overly distracted by others emotional states. Doorslamming jobs, friends and family with zero regrets. Seeing clear paths for my future and others futures. Not caring about hierarchys or my "supposed" place in them. Your videos pointed out how I prefer to tinker and self teach. I'll listen to peoples problems and it sucks out my soul but I endure this misery for some kind of greater good. I like to understand everything with my own reasons because then I can apply it elsewhere or everywhere. I do think everything is connected or there are energies that govern things that mankind doesn't have the tools to measure yet. I'll have a really painful ugly fight with a loved one if it means I don't have to have the same fight 5 more times. I don't think I'm special and I am constantly struggling to not freak out all the time. So when I give my friends the 16 personality test to use because it's free I always send them links to the cognitive stack to see if it resonates.

From what you said I kinda of have the same cognition as you presented.
One more thing, is this a use of Fe when you observe another person behaviour really meticously and then you observe some inconsistencies in it, and then you overthink what the cause could have been to the point where you will have clinical depression?
Because like you have said, sometimes I'm not that attached to other people's emotions or my own. I just try to make sense of them and what their cause could have been and then I ruminate a lot on how they could get resolved.
Most of the time I try to suppress my own emotions but sometimes I can't.
Also, you said that Ni isn't always subconscious. For me it is conscious(less than before as I lack concentration now) and subconscious.
Also, how the INFJ Fi manifests it's self in stressful situations. I asked this because with thinkers I just want more emotion and understanding(from both us), while with feelers I became more analytical and critical.

Some of my scores even came colse to evening out, like feeling vs thinking, intuition vs sensing, turbulent vs Assertive. I rarely feel someone else's emotions as my own completely, but when it does happen, it's very intense and lasts a while though never too sure how long it would. Usually, if I do take on someone else's strong feeling it can be because I couldn't allow myself to accept such a feeling exists in the other person because it is so negative and wrong in some way, so it's like I'm subconsciously taking it on as my own and all I can do is feel weird bc I don't feel like myself. One time I simply walked into a room cheery and soon I was already feeling awful, as if somoene snasppenfnigesr adn made me feel that way. I noticeddit was very much bc of the guy behind me in the class, he wasn't doing too great. However, most of the time, I don't just take on emotions in an immediate setting and usually see situations and emotions objectively, analyzing it to the point where I know exactly how a situation should be viewed appropriately, perhaps melding together several perspectives into one that includes them all. I would very much say I am an INT-Fs in terms of the myers briggs cognition.

I finally know why exactly it always annoyed me when on the personality tests where questions like: "Do you often meet with your friends?" (if so, you're an extrovert) or "Would you rather spend time with a lot of people or alone with a book?" (if the first you're extroverted, if the second you're the opposite)
I was really aware of such things, because there are many, many reasons why someone would chose a certain answer (in that case e.g. not having friends, anxiety which can happen to ANYONE). I was annoyed probably because of my sad social life experience.
Anyways, it's a pity that so little people know about the CPT stuff. I discovered this which your channel after half a year of being obsessed about gathering more informations about MBTI and now I have to forget almost everything when I learn CTP in order to understand certain concepts.

Really interested in how many people are attached to this type, it makes me wonder to what extent this could be the case for cognitive INFJs, and what the mechanism for this is... I’ll have to think more about this in my own case, although I feel less attached to the label than others seem to be, but I could be playing tricks on myself. I’d be interested in more about this, especially in so far as metacognition plays a role.

i do a mix of withdrawing and trying to solve the underlying condition, and relating to the person and experiencing their emotions as my own. sometimes i either avoid the first because i know someone doesn't always want "logic", or i do it in the background to gain a better perspective of the person and what they're going through but i don't relay it back to them. it's hard to say which is more prominent though because feeling deep emotions is so intense to the..soul i guess, that it can feel a lot stronger and more often experienced

I repeated the 16personalities test(and a few others) quite a lot of times (before I learned about cognitive functions and CPT as a whole) and each time it gave me either an ISTP or an INTP. It is hilarious because I am most likely an INT-Fs (agency subtype) lmao.
I realized this only after going through your ebook and various discussions on UA-cam here and honestly I think this "typing" system is extremely effective as it corresponds perfectly with the fluidity of the human mind itself. None of these online tests seem to talk about the cognitive functions or their maps, the very base model of MBTI which is fine but the amount of labelling, heck even shaming on some types, due to what are essentially stereotypes is extremely unproductive and inhibits individual growth.

    Your explanation is very useful!!
I always got ENFP on 16 personalities no matter how many times I did it, (a few times ENTP or INFP but I have done it so many times that I can remember most of the questions lol)
I tried fitting myself into it and searching on why am I different from the known ENFPs, but still outwardly made myself ENFP for almost 3 years, justifying it by websites saying not all ENFPs are the same and some are introverted etc
Later on, a friend told me I seem INFJ, so after lots of searching and understanding the cognative functions I am still not totally sure but 95% sure I am cognitively INFJ
The rare part still makes me hesitant tho.. despite not meeting people similar to me I don't feel THAT special, I think every individual is different and it doesn't have to be because I am rare or sth
Anyway, I have always thought of what you've said but failed to explain or organize it,, now it makes me less sure about myself but it helped me a lot, thank you xD

Now knowing it’s based on big 5, that makes soooo much more sense. My big 5 score tends to be low on agreeableness, high on openness, and low on conscientiousness. Makes so much sense why 16 personality is so much different than my cognitive function score. Actually correction: my conscientiousness score varies .

Also, while I haven't done the OCEAN test, I got the result INFJ when doing the "sixteen personalities" test, and from what I've read and understood of the functions I also have the NiFeTiSe stack-order in cognitive functions.
If I do a "proper" MBTI/Ocean test or a "proper" Cognitive Functions test, I might get more conclusive evidence, But I've felt like I've read and heard enough anecdotal descriptions of what the cognitive functions feel/are like, that I'm pretty convinced that I'm INFJ.
I've had my doubts though, but none of the other types seems to describe me as well as INFJ. I'm not ENFJ, ISFJ, INTJ or INFP, which were the ones I felt like I was closest to.
Not that any of this *really* matters, you are more than your type after all, you can be INFJ and be completely different from another INFJ in all the ways that matter. You basically only share the same base "operating system" (I'm pretty firmly on the Congnitive functions side, and less behaviour).

One thing I find that people dont often tend to consider is the level of integration of their shadow. The less integration you've gone through, the less self aware you actually are, and the more likely you are to be mistaken in your classification of either means. You will always have unconscious content to unpack, but the more you have to be sorted, the more you are a puppet to desires and behaviors you dont know exist, and thus more likely to be someone you wouldn't recognize from an outside perspective.
I do agree on a vast swathe of what you've articulated; nicely put.

    Hello Harry,
I guess you've been kind of hammering this message since you started the channel, but today's phrasing brought much clarity to me. 👍
Here's my question to you, though : if there is no correlation between behaviour and cognitive functions, on what clues does CPT rely to type somebody? (It seems to me that cognitive processes are by definition, internal, therefore not visible to an outside observer).
    Cheers, Claire

    • @CognitivePersonalityTheory
      @CognitivePersonalityTheory  4 роки тому

Hi! Indeed, this is a topic close to heart :D
There can be a behavioral overlap, but it is inconsistent and cannot be relied upon, especially not in regards to extreme stereotypes.
CPT relies largely on a person's honest response as to how they process information, but also analyses the way a person responds to the question. These combined can provide a lens into whether a person thinks, say, intuitively and feels, in this instance, specifically :)

How is it likely or logical that cognition has no influence on behaviour (at all)? While it indeed seem a stretch that a certain type of behaviour *must* mean you have a certain type of cognition, the absolute opposite idea where they're portreyed to not be related at all, just as well seems a stretch. Even if you do not know how they're related and to which degree, they could still be related in some way.
Also, just because there are many INFJ's on the internet while the idea is that they're rare, does not automatically mean both these things *could* not be true, as you portrey it to be. It could be that certain types could gravitate more towards typology and the internet more than others. That idea does not seem super unreasonable.
The thing is that it is always interesting if someone makes really bold and absolute claims in a video like you do, but generally if you make such bold claims, it works better if there is enough explanation/theory/logic/examples to support these claims.

    • @CognitivePersonalityTheory
      @CognitivePersonalityTheory  4 роки тому +14

As usual thanks for the well reasoned analysis!
In my videos I tend to present two binary extremes in order to a) serve as contrast and b) encourage people to take a different perspective.
It is of course possible for people to receive an IOAC score and be a cognitive INFJ, and while my comment on the unlikelihood of these scores coexisting is largely to encourage many mistyped people to ask questions they may otherwise not, it is something I hypothethise to be correct. I am not saying it is impossible, but I do suspect it is unlikely.
In terms of cognition and behavior having absolutely no overlap, this would be a ridiculous insertion, but the overlap isn't half as significant as it is made out to be. Cognition and behaviour cannot be completely seperated from one another, but nor should people leap to conclusions about behaviour based upon cognition.
UA-cam is something of a challenge, as concessions must be made constantly. If I covered every base, took time to thoroughly explain each assertion and kept my claims entirely moderate, the videos would be longer and far, far less engaging.
I am interested in reaching people with messages questioning what I consider to be rigid and unhealthy understandings of what type is, while introducing a more fluid system that empowers people more than it restricts them.
Thanks again for your continued engagement and well thought out criticisms :)

After reading this a second time, it is important to add that I had, very early on into the video introduced, MBTI as the system attempting to blend behaviour and cognition together. As I said in the video, this system has a 50% accuracy rate, which, while not entirely reliable, does provide evidence of a small overlap between behaviour and cognition. Can it be used to accurately determine your type? Not in my opinion. But to go to the polar extreme and argue there is absolutely no overlap between behaviour and cognition would be ridiculous, for which reason I never made this argument in the first place.
My argument states 16P and tests like it has nothing to do with cognitive functions, while acknowledging MBTI has found some (albeit unreliable) overlap between cognitive functions and behaviour. This small overlap cannot be relied upon to determine type.

The intuitive bias, in part, exists because the subject is abstract; it is therefore of greater interest to intuitives, who tend to dwell in and seek out abstractions. INFJs are common in community in part (small part) because genuine INFJs have Fe, and are more inclined to seek out community. The thinkers, especially the Te thinkers, could care less about community. Others are, of course, over-represented as well. INTJs certainly are.

Thanks for the clarification. I've always wondered why 16 personalities seemed so far off. It has consistently given me an INFP result even though many other tests, including cognitive function tests, have given me INFJ as a result. After reading more about the types I know I'm definitely not an INFP and I'm almost 100% positive that I'm an INFJ. I think it's misleading that 16 personalities uses the same lettering as MBTI, yet they're not using the correct theory. To me, just throwing MBTI concepts on top of the Big 5 test is rather deceptive. If they wanted to do their own thing, I think they shouldn't have hijacked the MBTI for their own purposes. It just confuses a lot of people out there.

That's wild. I'm a "self-diagnosed" (via online tests) INFJ, but I have never felt myself to be particularly "agreeable." On the contrary. I'm highly judgmental and vocal about my judgments and uncompromising. But I very much have all the other INFJ traits: introverted, intuitive, feeling, empathic, creative, lover of beauty and sincerity, etc. I have no patience or tolerance for disingenuous people or insincerity in any form, and I am very vocal about it, which I find people generally find off-putting. I do not feel "responsible" for anyone's emotional state, and while I can "feel" others' emotions, I do not "share" them.

    • @CognitivePersonalityTheory
      @CognitivePersonalityTheory  4 роки тому +1

Oh yes, as I said I estimate about 10% of people who receive this highly popular result will have the corresponding cognitive functions.
While the dichotomies can be aligned with the Big 5 to some degree, the F/T dichotomy does not fully correspond to Agreeable vs Disagreeable, no matter how much some tests will try it force it to do so.
The 16P test is one such instrument that will give a F/T score that doesn't necessarily correspond the the MBTI dichotomy is claims to be scoring.
Other tests may be more faithful to MBTI and therefore give a Feeling score regardless of disagreeableness.

I recently had my male ISTJ and female ISFJ friends who are a couple take the 16personalities test and the male ISTJ came out with ESTP while the female ISFJ came out with ESFP. They are so clearly ISJs so these results were not correct at all. I thought about this for a while and realised that many people simply answer the test as people they would like to be and come out with their "aspirational personality type" which is why Is are attracted to Es, Es to Is, Ps to Js and Js to Ps. Most recommended compatibilities for all types (STs, SFs, NTs and NFs) recommend an extravert to an introvert and vice versa, and a judger to a perceiver and vice versa. Perhaps it's also that my friends think like an ESTP and ESFP but present themselves to the world as an ISTJ and ISFJ.

I think you may have covered this in another video, but just to state it again: Big Five not only isn’t a direct correlation to cognitive functions, but also is more complex than say, 16personalities would lead you to believe. Each Big Five trait is broken down into up to 6 facets (depending on the version) that tend to group, but not in every case. For example, even in JP’s 2 facet version of the Big Five there is considerable ability to diverge from the predicted correlations between facets. For example, Agreeableness has two facets - compassion and politeness. It is entirely possible to score as very high on compassion and very low on politeness, or vice versa. How then do we formulaically lump people with contradictory facet scores into the 16 personality model? The answer is... you don’t. Cognitive Types guy, while I understand your frustration with all the misinformation and mistyping of the INFJ on the internet, (I made a video about this myself - I get it, I do) there are no hard and fast rules. I think your Model is interesting, and I support you in its creation and dissemination. However, one thing that I would like to see you acknowledge is the hormonal differences between men and women, and their subsequent effects on behavior and cognition. You say in a few of your videos something to the effect that a cognitive INFJ won’t be so emotional. I think you will agree based on your background in psychology and neuroscience, that hormones do affect/color cognition, and certainly the behavioral manifestations of cognition. As male, you are not as subject to hormonal cycling, and thus cannot really make a blanket statement that INFJs are unemotional, and if you are, you must be another type. INFJ females have just as much PMS as any other type haha. Also I’m not sure we can say that epiphanies are the product of unconscious Ni. An INFJ can live in the Ni cognitive Kaleidoscope, and also have random epiphanies from time to time. I agree that the subjective framing of what constitutes an epiphany obscures it’s importance to type, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. We’re so much more complex than type will allow for. Just something to think about.

This is an absolutely excellent comment - thank you for this.
It can be very, very difficult to package such multi-nuanced realities into a UA-cam video and it does frustrate me when I cannot cover all the bases and relevant exceptions.
Perhaps I didn't communicate myself well in previous INFJ descriptions - the Fi element pertained more to an unconscious Fi rather than one that lacks influence and intensity. I believe a theoretical disposition is present in both males and females, but also acknowledge, contrary to my binary descriptions, variance can exist across all people of any given type.
But, yes, I do believe the differing makeups (biological and otherwise) do affect how cognitive type manifests. However, I do not perceive this in a binary manner, as even while some type variations are more common in one sex than another this does not mean the variation cannot occur in either sex. I also believe this remains somewhat unknown territory, and until we can exactly pinpoint the differences in sex behaviour/cognition that are non-programmed I'm hesitant to make statements on how the average cognitive type of one sex differs to another.
I agree regarding the epiphanies of a conscious Ni, and my statement pertains more to the consistency of non-deliberate/non-directed Ni conclusions.
Once again, thanks for this great comment - I can't disagree with any of this!

Tbh I'm the opposite. I feel extreme relief when digging into congtivie functions, it explains so much about the way I am. Before there was only "There must be something wrong with me" and now it's "oh yeah the door slam, that's why I cut people off. Oh yes, the grip stress, oh yes, so it's apparently normal for INFJ to feel like an inherently horrible person!"
Like someone opened my eyes, pointed at my struggles and said yeah you're weird but it's a bit different weird than you thought and now that you know you can go do something about it.
I don't care about being peculiar. I care about understanding myself.

Same with INTJ. I still keep getting this result on 16p site even though I've found that my cognitive functions 100% are TiNeSiFe (INTP), not NiTeFiSe. I just have plans for the future and make to-do lists lol.

Tbh I was happy with myself before mbti n if I wasn't aware of bein an infj before then I doubt it will effect me if I'm not an infj, but I am, and its unfortunate for me, mainly because ppl say "infjs want to make the world a better place for everyone to live in" and that's just not me, this tiny blue n green ball in space is so full of corruption n hate n chaos that I have no desire to help humanity out, sure I enjoy helpin ppl if I can, if they deserve it, but an entire planet??? No, hell no, I dont have the infinity gauntlet so idgaf, besides tryin to fix problems in this world is like diggin a hole in the sand in a desert n hopin it won't fill in a few secs later, me as an individual has no desire to help when I know what little I can do wont even stop someone from bein deleted, forget bein an infj, I'm an individual consciousness 1st and as an individual consciousness watching the world burn without any way of puttin out the fire I honestly couldn't care less about humanity as a whole, I mean yea they've got alot of good but the bad is so extremely bad I fear humanity is lost, so in all honesty I wouldn't mind if I wasn't an infj, but I am, and I have to watch the world burn, hopefully this is my last incarnation

I judged my type from looking at my cognitive functions. I'm a rather disorganized INFJ who struggles with routines so in the most 'MBTI' Tests including the 16 personalities I test as INFP. the only test that I actually got INFJ on is the one by Cloverleaf. I heard the Cloverleaf questionaire is actually based on cognitive functions unlike 16 personalities. Do you know that one?
