MCN and Michael Neeves make some of the best motorcycle test videos in the world. And, I have to say Indian Motorcycles really knocked out a formidable machine in the 101 Scout. Not too much of anything - and enough of everything. A really beautiful and cool bike.
Just picked up a 2022 Harley Nightster and I love the 975 motor. It's such an upgrade from my Harley 48 in every way. I have to give credit to Harley on this bike. That said, Indian absolutely nailed this bike! I may have to go test drive this BUT I'm afraid I'll buy it lol

Indian have done an amazing job here they delivered what the fans and public asked for and to their credit. It must be said Harley could have should have been and done the same thing with the sportsters line up. This is a prime example of done well and not. Well done to Indian.
Harleys been fumbling the ball a lot lately if you ask me.
Apart from the karl gustaf inspired pipe it looks great.

@mosgor They made a full exhaust for it. Gran national 2 to 1. It's pricey but I'm getting it to swap out on my sport scout
Man they really knocked it out of the park with the aesthetics of this one for sure.

In Australia there dealer network seems to be getting smaller and smaller.
I like it because when I look at it, it resembles Arch Motorcycles bike and that is a good thing

Nice review & bike. Looks very cool. Much prefer the Indian design approach to Harley in general. Although not ready for a cruiser yet but maybe one day.

Indian bikes are amazing
As someone who had 2 scouts, calling the ride plush is rather amusing. The 3 inches of rear suspension travel is not good unless you're comparing it to a scout bobber or HD sportster s lol.
But with the reserve shocks this is significantly better that older models right?
Great review as always! How did you find comfort? Any back issues due to the low seat / feet forward combo etc?
such a beautiful bike wow. I'd quickly change the exhaust, but other than that it's such a good looking bike. Kinda reminds me of the iron man suit from the front lol. I need one of these.

Mr Neeves, here's one for you: How can manufacturers make the call to halve the front brakes, and leave everything else the same or worse? Not just this bike, but in general, how do they justify which brakes they give a bike? Where does it go from cost cutting, to the bike being underserved by its parts?

Lovely looking bike. But when will Indian put midpegs as standard on a cruiser bike. Dont like to pay extra when the bike already is expensive.

Love it, but I dont get the colour options? so limited. I want black, black smoke or the newer Storm Blue price is a bit high makes me want to get a chief instead

Makes me laugh when the sports bike crew have an idea of cruisers being plodding tractors these days. A combination of comfort in traffic and pull your arms off when you get the chance is perfect. Edit: the top speed is probably about 110mph, tell me when you need any more. It will need an exhaust out of the shop to make it not sound like a 125 so factor that in.
Dude, I work at Harley modern cruisers are tractors a 117 will be smashed off the line by the tiger 900 so there's no pull your arms off. Yeah they can turn better than they used to. Still don't do it well
It's got to go faster than 110 mph. My 96 Honda Magna will do 125 GPS, it's 80 horsepower 530 lb 125 mph out of this thing for sure.

@@elithegreat6463 the rocket, is a modern machine that weighs almost 100 pounds less than most American cruisers, and I love the rocket it's a masterpiece

I was excited by these, fancied a change from a Bonneville to a Super Scout, THEN I looked at the specs, carrying capacity, this is the weight of the rider, pillion, their riding gear, luggage and any accessories is only 181kg, that is 40kg down on my Bonneville, needs to be at least 200kg, and that boys and girls is the information that these so called reviewers don't give you

Ooof she's a looker. If I can swap out the wheels for something nicer, like the ones on the Sport Chief, and handles as good as you say I'm sold.

I want this bike so bad. I have been wanting a scout for some time but this checks everything I want but the price. One day I'll be able to justify it, just today is not that day.

The shock angle on Indian Scouts is leaned way too far forward to give a good ride over bumps.

How does it compare to the Harley low rider you reviewed year or two ago?
Low rider s is a much larger bike
They need to do something about the 30 seconds it takes for the speedo to boot up.
Bought ny fully-fendered Scout in '17 to skow ne down, but it hasn't worked.
The Scout platform is so agile - especially against bigger bikes like Fat Boys & Rocket IIIs and I have a lot of fun humiliating supersports riders on the right roads.
You din't buy any cruiser-style notorcycle for performance or handling, but in the real world the performance differential between any bike over 65bhp is so small as to be irrelevant on the road.
Its time we got out of our iwn way and ride what we realky want rather than fooling ourselves that a 'faster' bike will make us a faster rider anywhere other than on the track.
Ride what you want. On a Scout, the limitation will be your riding ability - not the machine itself.
With 10% more power & torque than my Scout, the new Scout closes the gap further
The original 101 was sportier and lighter in frame, that was the success. Sadly they didn’t make it that way, it’s just parts, but at least beafier engine performance.
Looks like Indian has a winner, watch out Harley.

Why is black EVERYTHING so in vogue, a bit of shine or colour would be nice. I’m not usually a big fan of after market exhausts but that one needs cutting off on day one.
Don't like the short mudguards. The rear one looks horrible along with the wheels. Does look much better than the new Harley 'Sportster' but not a patch on my 2001 Sportster 1200S.
At least they got rid of that carbuncle of a radiator they had on previous models and went with something less pronounced. That said I believe car radiators belong in cars.
I don’t quite understand the specs. If it’s a cruiser, it should have gobs of torque. If it’s performance it should have gobs of HP. My 12 year old air/oil cooled BMW R1200GSA produces the same HP at 110HP and 6 lbft more torque than the Scout 101 at 88. The Scout is only 10 lbs lighter but only carries 13L of fuel, while my GSA carries 33L. What is the Scout competing against that would warrant such lousy specs for a water cooled bike? It should have >100 lbft of torque to be worth considering as a cruiser with such a big water cooled motor.

Well, with that being said, after market parts can really make the new scout line up go up in hp. Scouts aren't best for torque. It's slightly geared towards hp. The chief line up is more about torque. Less about hp. That's just the way it is. Would you get a new sportster s just for the torque? No? Didn't think so
They went from 1133cc to 1250cc. The potential is there.
Why isn't anyone not mentioning how hideous the Exhaust is ?? Just spoils the looks of otherwise beautiful motorcycle.

Gotta throw something on there for critics to hate on and buyers to immediately replace... Better than having to replace the suspension!
I really appreciate the 2 into 1 exhaust. But that enormous can at the end? I think John Deere is calling, and they want it back!
Indian Motorcycle surpasses Harley, but the instrument panel and headlights are the same and need improvement.😊😊😊

No need for rocker covers to come off as it has hydraulic lifters so no valve adjustment required

I'm So F@#king tempted.....down side two years to get my savings up to where I can buy it.....don't do finance, px my xjr1300 maybe little less time
correct me if I am wrong but a 1250 is a 76 CC engine. Why would anyone want this engine versus the 114 or 117 found on a Harley Bobber or Lowrider? I am 62 next month and buying a new bike. What appeals to me is the low weight of the 101 which would make the engine seem more powerful and probably still be an enjoyable ride. I have owned 4 harleys so switching to an Indian would be is a big move for me. The 101 Scout seems like a souped up 1200 Sportster.
The engine is tuned for medium-to-high revs for power and it's very linear. You can keep it in second for the freeway even if you want to scream. There's some sacrifice on very low-end torque, but only if you're doing stop-light to stop-light show-off racing. Anything longer, and the scout will eat it up.
I wonder if it will be a rust bucket in 10 years.

the upside down is only on the 101 scout
Looks terribly uncomfortable with your feet and knees elevated. 15 min ride to store maybe, 2hrs max.

@jensfos That doesn't mean that American cruisers don't represent terrible value for money when compared to other bike classes.
@@Alex_mkII Why? Just because the Speed Triple has more horsepower? You could also opt for one of the cheaper models. The scouts are fully modular anyway.
@jensfos Because for the same, or lower price, naked bikes, ADV's, sportsbikes and even many performance retros typically offer more power, higher end suspension, more advanced frame construction, and better tech packages. I enjoy riding simpler machines, but they should be priced accordingly
@@Alex_mkII Yes, but here in the US, cruisers have better resale value, so you get your money back. Especially with Harleys.
