    In this video, I go into detail on the differences between CS:GO and Valorant, as well as the positives and negatives of both games. Remember, all points mentioned in the video are based on my own experience, so despite trying to stay unbiased on every topic, you might still disagree with some things and that's fully understandable. Nevertheless, I hope you will enjoy this comparison video essay.
    I should also mention that I peaked Global Elite back in 2017 when I played CS:GO regularly, so currently I am no where near that level since I only just came back to the game. Thought i'd make it clear so you don't assume that the footage used in the video is in my "prime" time.
    If you enjoyed this video, considering dropping a like, it helps a lot with the algorithm!

    Probably the first somewhat unbiased video I've seen on this topic. One point you forgot to mention was the presence of the community workshop and large number of community made game modes. A large number of players solely play surf, kz, bhopping maps, hide-n-seek, deathrun, 1v1 arena, prop-hunt, zombie escape, etc. Its a huge reason why a lot of players prefer CS over Valorant.

    • @LeniusRiven

      Riot Games intentionally make their game linear. One of Overwatch's biggest reasons for downfall is because they gave their players too much ability for creativity - people just spend their entire time playing custom games that the competitive scene became so terrible. Dividing the playerbase into two is very dangerous. That's why Riot Games limit their gamemodes. But as time goes on, younger players will gravitate towards Valorant so eventually Valorant will have more players

      I think a big reason for that is the fact that Valorant is more kid-friendly and, more importantly, came after CS. So people who've stuck with CS for possibly over 20 years don't like the fact that newcomers are getting a different, and noob-friendlier experience. Since CS is somewhat of a tradition now, it feels weird having a competitor that is less of a sport and a lot more "video gamey" in character abilities, etc. It's like if football had a new "competitor" where you don't have as much control over the ball and you can only do specific moves based on the role you select, many football fans wouldn't like that. And it's not to say that that other game is bad, but it's just stupid that they are being compared in which one is better and which one is worse, when there's so much more to both.
      I think the biggest issue with Valorant is actually just the fact that it's marketed as a CS alternative, instead of a completely different game.
      I rambled quite a bit, so I hope that makes sense lol.

I think that servers make a big difference in gameplay experience. i agree but i think it's fair to say that riot games really doesnt care about cs or valves decisions/gameplay anymore. they clearly copied the base game fundamentals but val strays further and further from that with every new agent and patch added to the game. to me, riot seems to be much more money hungry with their main focus in generating revenue with each new update. in a sense its becoming like LoL where every update is either adding new content or balancing older mechanics to fit the current meta.
      this might be a hot take but CSGO doesnt have to worry about anything other than the occasional gunplay shifts to spice things up. the game is already as balanced and polished as can be. any changes no matter how miniscule have a massive effect on all levels because of how optimized and familair the game is. you can take a year break from cs go and come back to something that feels and plays very similar to what you left off at, but in valor ant if you take a year break you come back with an entire new meta, with new agent abilities and mechanics to learn.

    The maps were definitely what kept me from playing Valorant as a long time CS player, but the peeker's advantage and very odd movement/gun feel that I for some reason couldn't grasp was a big factor as well. I used to also be heavily invested in the skin market and betting scene, because it's far more beginner friendly than trying to actually get into stocks while still being appealing to people who like that kind of thing.
    I remember doing tradeups and learning how all of that stuff worked back when people didn't understand float values and I could make some money off of it as a kid. Kind of wish we could go back to those days before everything was so heavily tied to money and hyper optimized due to how lucrative it can actually be, because it felt more like a community than nft and crypto kids who've played less than a hundred hours in total spending $10k on sticker capsules during sales.

    I would argue the skin market in valorant being "affordable" is a little off. I got back into CS after a couple years and selling all my skins prior to leaving. Lots of cool skins can be gotten for under $10 whereas all valorant skins are like $15 base and each knife being $40. The knife market and high end scene on CS is way higher, but the budget scene is also tight.

    • @kumanochi

      You get a knife skin and a bunch of skins for 10$ from battlepass, also there is night market with gives you up to 50% lower prices on skins each act, which is every 2 months. This is basically uncomparable, because with valorant you can get any skin you want for 15-40$ and in CS some skins locked under ridicules prices up to thousands. And ability to sell skins in CS is not an argument, who do you think would donate a 1000$ for a knife, to play for a month or so, and sell it with an external site to get money back on your card.

    I feel like one of the reasons I love Valorant so much is that I don't play duelists. I mostly play initiators and sentinels and then harbor sometimes as well. Not only do I rarely have to worry about insta-lockers but I find the joy of getting kills/making plays in general by using smart usage of my util so much more rewarding than just by rushing in. I bring this up because a lot of people seem to have a mindset of "only duelists are fun" which I feel like makes a lot of people lose interest in the game because they rarely experience everything it has to offer. I think the dynamic of allowing everyone to do everything in CSGO is interesting and was fun when I first tried it, but it kind of had a paradox of choice in that I didn't know what play style I would go for in each round and its more clear with the role system. The community is another big reason I tend to like Valorant more as well, I agree with what you said. I tend to just enjoy talking to people more on Val, but then again it has been quite some time since I last played CS. It doesn't sound like much has changed, though. Finally, I just like the "feel" of Valorant more. I don't know how else to describe it, I guess I like to way the movement and gun play feels more in Valorant than in CS.

    I have the same issue with LOL as well in comparison to Dota. Sure having 100+ heroes from the off in Dota is a little overwhelming but it allowed me to experiment and find the heroes I really liked, whereas in League you can have thousands of hours and not have all the heroes which just seems stupid to me.

      And even though the black market does have a set of skins on rotation for a discount, both that and the in game store promotes Fear Of Missing Out by encouraging you to buy the whole bundle on release or risk waiting for months on end to finally have the skin you actually want on rotation.

    A lot of these points on csgo are why most people who play csgo regularly play on Faceit instead of the normal matchmaking. valve needs to compete with riot, so I’m hoping to see them fill some of the holes in the official matchmaking system that you pointed out with cs2.
    Edit: also the hitreg is fine, it’s just at long range a few guns have a point where they start to have bullet inaccuracy, which is part of the strategy. on top of that it’s harder to know when you’re fully standing still in cs compared to valorant, making some people feel robbed because they thought they would be accurate. It’s also probably notable that the bullets in valorant pretty much show where they are going/are supposed to go, while in csgo, you have to understand the mechanics very well just to know that the game isn’t broken, let alone understand what the problem was.

      well said, another thing I wanted to add to this is that the netcode of valorant is much more refined than that of cs, however that problem seems to have been fixed in the sub-tick update in cs2, the things added with movement when someone prefires you in csgo in online matches even on decent 25 ping it will look like the enemy just peeked and killed without even spotting you where as in valorant (partially because the movement is a bit slower too) things like xantares peek or ferrari peek aren't as effective... these type of things basically make it look like the enemy is hacking at times and yeah it also makes the skillset of LAN and online players differ, which as they say isn't a bug but a feature... I think a big problem with Valorant, that a lot of people fail to recognize, is it's Hero/Agents hitting power creep. They are a timebomb for power creep. Every game that has this type of system, Overwatch, DOTA, Rainbow 6, ect, has experienced power creep as new and better agents are released. Sometimes that make a meta just by their new abilities, sometimes they are legitimate better versions of old characters. This causes people to lose interest because their favorite characters are useless, and they are forced to play other characters in order to fit the meta. Even casual players suffer because no matter how much you don't care about winning, it just isn't fun to be stomped every game by a meta that you have to interest in playing. Solo queue people have it the worst as they are trashed by their teammates for not playing the current meta of characters, even in casual. The best thing the developers can do is try to slow down the power creep, but eventually it will happen. Riot, as good as they are trying, has already felt this happen with Cypher. He was a mid pick in the early days of the game, but with better agents coming out, he has fallen out of the meta and as now seen as a useless agent, with some people in the community being extremely vocal about a buff for him.
    There are more examples, but sadly this is an inevitability in the type of system that Valorant has. It can be staved off for a while, but eventually power creep with harm this game's stability in the market.

    I felt the opposite about the communities portion. With CS being around longer than Valorant, the player base of CS has a higher age average of players. Older players have been less toxic and mature (aside from the hardcore players i guess) than Valorant. Younger player base in Valorant leads to self explanatory things. When playing CS, I've found less partied up friends who just bully a solo q than I do in Valorant.

    I agree with most of the thoughts you shared! Another key thing that I wish Valorant has was more map design variations. Most of the maps tend to follow the standard 2x2 which can feel repetitive especially when spectating. Maps feel very 'open' too in the sense that most of the gunfights happen with players seeing the full body model of each other. Objects in CSGO allow for more variety in gunfights whether standing or crouching with only areas above the upper torso are visible. I'm glad to see Riot experimenting on the latter ever since the release of Breeze and more on Pearl (although they nerfed that cover on B long lmao). It may be a design choice to keep the simplicity and casual gameplay though but I'd definitely play more if they expanded on their designs.

    No cheaters in Valorant? Cheaters in Valorant are allmost in every game for someone with high shadow rank! They are only more careful, but seeing someone on map on B and you get instakilled by him while you are on the other site is extreme. Valorant punishes good players to make them play it more and to put smurfs and cheaters in same lobby, but when you are not a smurf or cheater you will loose. In Valorant iron to gold is just pure luck when you are good. And I am not happy with ranking in that game. Every game being match mvp with 30+ kills, least deaths in team and most assists in team, having the most first bloods, plants and defuses and then getting +12 and after that getting more cheaters to lobby against you with the same pattern, but you will loose, because some n word yelling instalock Reyna sabotages the team you get -30. That is just bad and it’s true that games against cheaters are winable, but it is just luck. I am bored being stuck in silver and then playing swiftplayes against Diamond that is yapping how I am smurf. And I am not saying I am radiant level, but I just want to play games where skill matters and that won˝t happen until I get out of low elo.

    I think that if you include 3rd party ranked in CSGO it beats valorant overall. The issue with cs is that valve cant make a working anti cheat so anyone who isn't ready to invest time and effort into cs won't have fun in match making and will be forced to play community tab.

    • @fazeelayaz855
      @fazeelayaz855 9 місяців тому

      Wdym they "can't" make a working anti cheat. Anti cheat is just a software with different variations. Valve decided to make their Anti Cheat the way it is instead of using kernel anti cheat system like majority of the games today. Valorant using Vangaurd which is also a kernel anti cheat that detects the changes in your game files and see if you're cheating or not. Kernel AC can easily access all your PC files while you're running it, and t can be misused. Valve just decided that it was too much to access a user's files and decided to make their AC the way it is now. Saying they "can't" means they're incapable when in reality they have highly skilled engineers who can make the same thing for csgo pretty quickly.

    What I like about CSGO's skins is the creativity and level of detail the COMMUNITY ARTISTS go to, not paid devs, but independent artists hoping for recognition through a blank canvas without the ability to change the animations of gun model itself. I also like certain Valorant skins, but the ability to buy and sell is ofc a huge factor
    As for the Pro scene, only Paper Rex has made me feel a similar level of excitement as CSGO's pro tournaments!! Valorant has a meta but they defy the meta with w-key gaming through different team comps!

The community workshop simply gives Valve a way to increase throughput and the creative depth of their skins while supporting the community (skin creators get paid in the tens of thousands), something Valorant will never have and is evident from how few skins it has compared to CS.

    I have played both mainly csgo but I have played a good bit of valorant as well. Personally, I found valorant to be a way more toxic environment than csgo. That was typically only in ranked though. From my experience csgo typically has like one toxic player and everyone else is chill. However, when I started to get high up in the ranks in valorant I started to have the most toxic experiences of my life playing that. It was so bad I just stopped playing it. I found it to just not be enjoyable, but I have been able to enjoy playing the game even at the highest level. It definitely has the occasional games where I want to kill myself but not nearly as consistently toxic as valorant. idk I still enjoy both games. It is fun to play unrated with my friends

    I wish you had more freedom with your skins in valorant, like trading them with other players, even if it's skins within the same price tag. But on regards to cs, it's important to remember that valve is probably going to get more uptight with cs go skins, apparentely it's become illegal withing steam terms to trade skins outside of the community market, that includes activites like gambling and third-party sites in general. Also, selling your skins outside the community market (that has taxes and doesn't let you use your earned money outside steam) is a bit risky since some third party sites can later use your trade API to steal your items by selling them for cents in the community market.

    As someone who has played CS for years and years very casually, moving to Valorant was actually a significant step up in technical play. Because movement is slowed down but guns are not, you can predict much better where someone will be. Cursor placement in CS where all characters pretty much have built in jetpacks seems pointless from a casuals perspective, while in Valorant, after a few weeks of playing I can tell how far someone can realistically move and pre-aim accordingly. In cs I find myself doing upredicatble flicks and run and gun attempts much more out of necessity because of how volatile movement can be. Feels very unrealistic too.

    • @marcelogallardo2749
      @marcelogallardo2749 10 місяців тому +23

      So is more realistic to move like a turtle? You forgot how humans move? Plus, the fact that movement is faster helps for the flow of the game. If you get stuck on a corner, you are done, but in csgo it would require more skills to kills intantly someone crossing the corner. In valorant is more squared. People learn the lineups and the few tricks for shooting and stuck to that. In csgo there's more components relying in raw skills and reflexes. THt'as why decent csgo players slay in valorant, not the opposite.

    Great vid brother, I'd just like to add that movement is an integral part of gunplay, the movement mechanics in both games shape gunfights in widely different way. Also, while knives good knives, both in terms of animation and looks are more expensive in CS, one could make the case that it is easier to make a decent loadout in CS, even with less than 10$. When it comes to the comunity I agree with what you said but from my own experience it seems that while CS players are prone to toxicity, Valorant players seem to give up more often. I know this point is way more subjective, but I always find myself coming back to CS after play Val because of CS's simplicity, the lack of agents and abilities is always a breath of fresh air. Moreover, while I do believe the map selection in CS makes the game less frustrating, but beyond that I think CS maps are better overall, I'm not exactly sure how to explain it but aspects such as angles, chokes, and such feel more intricate yet a lot more comfortable to navigate through and fight with.
    Anyways, good points, unbiased takes, great vid, keep it up x).
    PS: I think it's good to keep in mind that CS was built to last while Valorant might not be recognizable in a few years and making updates on comparisons might no be such a bad thing especially with CS2's close release. (unless we get Valve Time'd again)

      I agree on your points but calling that in a few years Valorant might be dead, ofc we don't know the future but what the numbers say I would argue its other way around. For example just checked that CSGO had last month around 1mil active players around the world, Valorant has had the whole year, also last month around 14mil-15mil active players around world, CSGO has never had over 10mil active players it's been cycling around the 1-5mil, CS2 has to do so well to keep it up and alive, some people already are arguing that CS is only alive because its market place, which is fair, but active players are crumbling compared to Valorant. Still I love CS and play it to this day, we will see what will happen to Valorant in the future.

      @user-tq5vq6gg9y 10 місяців тому

      @@leevimasalin2301 I never said val would die, simply that it was made by Riot. They have a good track record of often modifying their games as time goes on, and as you said we don't know what's going to happen in the future, I think Val is worth it's weight in salt, same for counter strike. In the future more players might get bored of CS due to it's nigh unchanging nature and would perhaps prefer a bit more changes, while Val players could get frustrated with the sheer ammount of new content being brought and would prefer more stability. But IF you had to point a gun over over my head and tell me to predict which one will outlast the other I'd argue CS would. There have been many games, far more accessible to new players and way more popular. However, for those that have been fallen off, their downfall was due in no small part to poorly added content and perhaps also badly balanced content, in spite of these games getting off to a good start. While you could definitly say Valve could also botch the game in such a fashion, but in terms of track record Valve are either to lazy or too careful to do so. Thus, for me, the question isn't whether or not CS will remain alive for long in its current statebut instead, how will riot handle Valorant's updates in the future to maintain interest in the game? And I do agree the skin economy is an undeniable contributing factor to CS's popularity, as well as in maintaining it, but at this point it is an inherent part of the game.
