I enjoyed the whole video and all great tips. I think one of the best (besides giving an itinerary to a friend) is car camping first. I believe a lot of folks love hiking and the thought of sleeping in the woods. However, many get out there for the first time and when the sun goes down it scares them so much they never go back (not a judgement or criticism at all. Completely understandable and relatable!). Your car camping and camping close to your car is such great advice to help one ease into their overnight comfort zone at their own pace. Maybe that’s all they wish to do or take it further into the woods or just day hike only. Great which ever way. The main thing is they are outside, hiking, camping and enjoying life!
Great content. Look forward to your next video. Happy Holidays!

Good tips especially about learning how to use a map and compass. For those who want to get real specific terrain info the USGS has topo maps you can download. Merry Christmas to you and Jerry and all the family.

This was fantastic! I learned new things to put to use. I appreciated the car camping advise. I actually feel I need to do this a few more times to feel absolutely comfortable before taking the next leap! You do an amazing job putting this together it takes a lot of time and is a lot harder and time consuming than you think! Take care and have a great holiday!

Hi!! I've recently started watching all of ur videos and we seem to share the same love of hking/backpacking. Im actually fairly new and haven't spent the first night out yet on the trail. My husband has cancer so I've had to kinda go with the flow and get out on the trail as im able. I'm interested in knowing which foot wear u prefer. I have a pair of Columbia boots that I love but u wear trail runners. Why do u prefer those over boots? Are t boots more supportive? Maybe I havent given trail runners enough of a chance or I've tried the wrong ones. Ur opinion matters to me so please share. U might have already discussed this topic but I haven't been able to find it. Thanks so much
