My garage next Edward! Lol
I have to say Thanks a million for this idea my husband and I put it to use in our own garage and it worked out beautiful. Thanks.
You are so welcome!
Pretty slick idea, I need more garage doors!
HAhah too many rods?
Dude…I love simple…I love cheap…but mostly I love effective! Thank you. Hate my tangled rods…never more!
Awesome hack right there!! When I get a place with a garage I’ll remember that!!!
Yea bro, super easy and effective
Thank you for sharing this video we really appreciated it. Thanks to you we ordered some ourselves for our garage perfect solution for us as well. We love watching your video. Keep up the great work.
Glad it was helpful!
That is some Rod Buster approved rod holders! Good show Ed!
After I'm done painting my house I'll definitely do this!
awesome idea, thanks for sharing... I was looking for another option from a big store that charges way as much... my total for what I have ordered is ~ $18
Glad it was helpful! this way is really cool because it's so customer
I’m so doing this right now. What a great idea. Thanks!!
Such a good idea! Going to give this a try this weekend
You should!
Brilliant! Now you can get more rods. 😆
Haha and keeps Veronica happy the garage is clesr
Holy crap! Best hack of the year!
Thanks! Keep in mind, you can’t overdue the tape strength!
Gorilla tape is fine, but just to be sure, add some tiny self-tapping screws.
i made one of these garage door rod holders yesterday made out of wood and pvc $10 budget to hang 15 rods. good stuff u got there but i rather screw those instead of tape bro.
Any video or pictures?
Nice going! Only one thing about Gorilla Tape. When it gets hot outside, the temperature inside the garage gets hotter and the tape will start to come loose. Have you experience this problem yet?
I think this a great idea and I'm think about doing, my question is i know this video was posted about 2 years ago and i wanted see how it is holding up.
That house is rented out now for the last two years. No load on them but they’re still there. Haven’t had anyone comment yet that had it fail
@@Hook2Cook right on man, I read some of the comments and I didn't think about the heat playing a factor with lines that I have on my poles. My garage faces east and it's a hot one here in New Mexico but I might try drilling some on the walls. Thank you for your response have a great day!!
Did you have to scrape off the factory adhesive before using the gorilla stuff?
killer idea bro thank you!
🎣
Glad you think so!
So, how did the adhesive backing hold up through the hot summer heat?
What I would do before you put the rod holders on the door wipe it down with alcohol because sometimes they put a substance in the cleaners that does not actually clean the metal reason being I've tried cleaning my window to my pickup with and then I put my GPS suction cup to the window and it falls off I have to clean it with alcohol first not Windex but alcohol and then on another thing you might look at when it starts getting warm or hot will those holders fall off they might go
They also come with hardware to screw into wooden garage doors like my ancient one.
What did you use to clean the garage door? Great video?
I put my fishing rods in my bedroom because in the garage it gets really hot or really cold and the fishing reel grease dries out in the garage and in the bedroom it is temputure control inside the house and reels grease never dries out and fishing line to
Yea, it’ll make more sense this way if your garage doesn’t get too hot. Ours doesn’t. But, it’s something to look into for maybe storing them without the reels on
I had a garage in Bakersfield that got so hot that the garage door handle actually burned me. I also put ceiling mounted rod holders in it and the 1st summer 12 rods got destroyed by the heat. It stayed over 105 for a week that year.
A garage I had in Mariposa was the coolest place in the house. Just depends.
You're right. it definitely depends if your garage/ garage door gets uber hot.
I want to try it but I wonder how will the heat from the sun affect the gorilla tape. Is there enough room to drill a hole for a screw?
Yes there’s room to drill
Now that it has been a year, how are they holding up? Should I do this, or did it fail over time?
We ended up moving but have renters there. Holders are still in place but no rods.
Well you put those holders on metal wait till summer ,that garage is going to be hot and those metal bars too, the hit will make the sticky part slip away..screws is the best option to me . 🎣✌️Just put the rods without the reels.
good points. we'll see. maybe even zip ties might work too..
I will 2and that warning. Depending on where you live and where the garage faces it could even get hot enough to harm your rods. I had a place in Bakersfield that the garage door got too hot to touch without actually getting a burn. Ceiling mounted rod rack in the garage destroyed 12 rods the 1st summer.
Clever idea! 💡 👍
Glad you think so!
How does tape handle the heat
How did adhesive hold up? My concern is never the weight it holds, it's the breakdown over time. Especially in an environment like that
It held up pretty good and it’s still there after I moved out and we have renters there. They don’t used them but they’re still on the garage
@@Hook2Cook you da man. I hate copying you but glad I am. 🤣
I was about to start cutting 2x4 with brackets hung from the ceiling and thought "I bet someone got oddly creative. Let me look first" haha
@@haystack17 lol there’s no such thing as overkill with the gorilla tape either. Get some strong tape!
Is this still good?
2 years later, still work?
how is the garage door rod holder holding up with temperatures?
So far so good!
Nice work 3yr later how they doing
All good. They’re still there. We since moved out but I did a repair on our old washing machine for our renters and I was happy to see they’re hangin on
How will that tape + weight of the rod/reel hold up to heat?
We shall see! if it seems to get less sticky, and they start to fall off, maybe going straight for gorilla glue might be a good option....
Cool man. Summer heat update!
I don’t have enough garage door for all my rods my collection has gotten outta control
What you spray to clean surface?
Make sure there’s no dust or oil that can keep the tape from fully sticking
Sorry, misread your question. It’s this stuff, but the spray version amzn.to/3pC33yY
All is good till the adhesive eventually weakens.
Will keep you updated on how it's holding up. If you're looking to do the same thing, here's the products: kit.co/hook2cook/garage-door-fishing-rod-storage-hack
It's been 3 years. How bout an update? Gorilla tape still holding up?
Don't know where you are located but a hot garage is terrible place for fluorocarbon and mono. Basement is much better.
California. Central coast. South facing garage so it doesnt get too hot, but you're right. heat is a big consideration
@@Hook2Cook Extended periods of bright sunlight also severely weakens mono and fluoro.
Still holding in 2024????
😉👍
It works but it may put more stress on the motor
Good point. Maybe just don’t overload it. There’s some mount on amazon where the mount itself is like 1 lb
@@Hook2Cook You should be able to look up the weight rating of your motor, then weigh your garage door to see how much weight capacity you still have to work with: ua-cam.com/video/tovyyLaZoio/v-deo.html
also, if its a concern, it's also possible to mount just the rods minus the reels
@@Hook2Cook Stress on the motor is a function of tension on the torsion springs of your garage. If the tension is too low(not enough turns on the torsion springs), then you will put stress on the motor. An average sectional garage door is about 150#. I wouldn't worry too much about a few rods.
@@Hook2Cook Yeah, that was my next thought too.
So I live in Ga, which is about 2 degrees from the gates of hell for about 8 months out of the year… I’m loving this idea, but I do not know if the adhesive would work here, not even gorilla tape. I noticed you in a hoodie, if you wore a hoodie in my garage you would be dead within a few minutes. LoL
Lmao! Same here brother! Have you found a different way to do this? I went over to Home Depot and bought some ACC conduit hangers and it seems to work great…..I do like the spring loaded option of these clips though…
@@matthew0317usmc I saw another video of a guy that did the pvc conduit hangers, I think that’s the way I’m going to go too!
@@liprippingwithblake5613 yeah man, I did it yesterday just with one pole. Works great! I can properly fit 6 or so poles up there without drilling any holes at all, just using the holes already in the rails
@@matthew0317usmc did you use the 1 1/2 inch?
@@matthew0317usmc oh and Semper Fi brother.
