  • In this video we go over the steps on how we installed our brand new Warn VR EVO 10S. We hit a few hiccups and show how we overcame them but adding a winch to this Jeep project was a much needed upgrade. Cody also covers the install of the Factor 55 Flat Link E. Thank you everyone for watching and stay tuned for our ALTERED HONEYMOON coming next!

    That’s awesome! We are in the same Jeep situation as you all. 19 JL, 93 YJ. JL goes to shop next week for lift and tires. I just picked up Dana 60’s for the YJ. Your videos are super helpful.

      Richard Drombetta Sweet 🤙🏻 it’s the best of both worlds, creature comforts of the new and the raw feel of the old. Nice call on the 60’s. If I didn’t get the JL axles for mine at a deal I would have done one tons as well. Thank you very much for watching!

    Perhaps another option to elongate the fairlead mounting holes and not cut the bracket. Then it would have been farther away from the wench and retained all its strength. Hopefully by now motobilt has redesigned the bracket. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience.

      That’s a good idea! The only thing I could see as a downfall of that is it pushing the fairlead further out from flush of the front of the bumper but I think that would just be a visual issue not a strength. I haven’t checked if they redesigned it because ours has been working great since we installed it. Thank you for watching and your feedback 👍🏻

    I'm wondering about the battery life of the remote. So it is not rechargeable, and it seems like those are ER14505 batteries. But how long will the battery last with a normal use (and some periods without using it). Is it fairly simple to change the battery on the remote?

    • @altered_life
      @altered_life  4 роки тому

      Kevin Villalobos Actually after speaking with them and looking into it, in our remote the battery is just a normal AA and it’s a simple three Phillips head screws to take it apart. The issue we had with the Bluetooth not working was something with our Bluetooth receiver and they warrantied it no questions asked. We just had to bring the winch to a local authorized Warn service shop and they took care of it.

      Altered Life thanks … that’s why watching yours and other UA-camrs videos is so important …you got to look in other people’s mirrors and learn from their mistakes… it’s of humans to make mistakes … I’ll keep you posted …

    At 19:50 if you haven't already done it .. I'd be putting a protective sleeve of some form over the +ve cable as it passes by the -ve terminal on your battery. From the camera position it looks like it can rub and if so ... it will eventually rub through against the -ve terminal and you could be in a world of trouble.
    If ANYTHING is allowed to rub against anything else .. it WILL eventually wear through.

      Appreciate the advice! I know when we were installing this, we were kinda in a rush and it’s been good since. But I do try and check over the Jeep periodically. I’ll definitely take a look at the cable next time and put a wrap around it if I see an issue. Thank you for watching

    Curious to know motobilts response. I have the same bumper but w/ the stinger. I like this winch due to $ savings.

      We haven’t heard an update from them regarding the issues we had but we also haven’t followed up since our modifications have been working. Their customer service is great and I’m sure if you call and reference this video they could give you an update. We love this winch to for the same reason and the quality is hard to beat! Thanks for watching.

      Oh ok awesome, I’m glad they have it noted at least. I know they make another fairlead Mount so I’m sure that one would work with this winch

      E W We called Warn and they said that sometimes during shipment the battery in the remote can become loose so they instructed us to unscrew the three screws in the remote then remove and reinstall the battery. Unfortunately that didn’t fix ours so we have to call them back and have them send a replacement remote. Sorry I don’t have a better answer as of right now but I’m sure they will make it right. Thanks for watching! -Cody

    Man I wish Toyota made 4 runners with winches in mind .. I had to lose half my dumper and go to fab shop get a custom job to mount my winch .. 400$ later

      Yeah I definitely feel some manufacturers forget where their roots came from and the people still enjoy doing things with vehicles instead of just driving them on the street to work. At least you were able to get something cool and custom to make it work!

    couple washers between the bracket and the winch would probably have done the trick

      @@altered_life Positioned way too close to the recovery. Could lead to injury or death if something breaks.

    • @altered_life
      @altered_life  4 роки тому

      Emmanuel Chen I can definitely see where you’re coming from with that. Certain times though to make sure everything is going correctly you have to position yourself where you can see. We also did take precautions by using a full closed loop winching system to help avoid the chances of parts failing as well as the use of the synthetic rope so that it doesn’t store energy like a steel cable would in case of a line snapping. Winching can inherently be dangerous but with proper equipment and inspection of that equipment before use, risk can be mitigated to a very low level. Thanks for watching!
