Turns out this setup also works on male characters! I didn't think it would due to the turn around Moveswap not working for male characters in PTDE. But this version of the setup in Remastered works for both male and female characters!
@@splee5556 Edit: NEVERMIND, the swap IS working, I was confused thinking that it would swap the entire moveset over. It only swaps the sprint attack of the right hand weapon to the left hand weapon. Original comment: using your exact setup (same weapons and technique) except as a male character, I have not been able to get this to work. I'm able to perform the steps successfully and 2-hand wield my left hand weapon, but the moveset doesn't swap over. Did you personally confirm that it works on male characters?
I tried that, but I haven't been able to get it done this way. Don't know why though, maybe the game doesn't want me to use this glitch to make life harder :(
Basically, Dark Souls only ever intends for you to two hand bows in your left hand, it's not possible otherwise. By buffering certain inputs it's possible to make your character two hand a melee weapon in your left hand, and the animations become bugged, particularly the rolling and running attacks - using the stats of the weapon you're holding but the animation of the weapon in your right hand.
Most of the trick is in the prompt swap (tricking the menu to do one thing while "thinking of"/having memory of another thing) I assume. Then the bow part is like in PTDE; it's a weapon that can be 2-handed from the offhand. Why buffering a block input allows you to "store memory" of the moveset/animations is quite beyond me though.
If it's like other "moveswaps", then it isn't actually all moves. Just the ones bows don't have, iirc. So running attacks, rolling attacks, and plunge attacks. Still cool, still a nifty speedrun strat. But not really fun enough to bother with casually imo, and the name is kind of an overstatement
@@bariumselenided5152 THANKS, wish the video had mentioned that BEFORE I jumped off a cliff and lost my souls and wasted an hour on a glitch that I'm never going to use. Also it only works if you start it with a rapier or curved sword, which, again, WHY DID THE VIDEO NOT SAY ANYTHING?!?!
I love it when new discoveries are found in videogames even years after the game was released. I can't wait to see how speedrunners will manage their runs now.
this was already a basic strategy on the vanilla version, so not gonna change much. Only difference is that now you can also do it on remastered version
there are certain new skips only available on the remastered. So with moveswap covering the damage aspect of the run now. We should see even faster times than ptde times. I think. Is been a while since I checked the runs on ds1.
This is awesome! It even works with keyboard and mouse. Also, here are a few things I've discovered while doing a bit of testing: - switching from bow to a weapon when turning should be done later than earlier - for some reason, I can only transfer from thrusting swords (like rapier) and curved swords (like falchion). Could be smth with different animations, could be skill issue 🤷 *EDIT* : you can swap from other weapons by changing the rapier right before equipping the bow - you can transfer to pretty much any weapon (even stuff like whips and shields work). You can even "transfer" to catalysts, talismans and pyromancy flames, although game gets confused and you can't attack (can still cast spells tho) - game threats the weapon in the left hand as a bow that was two-handed. Thanks to that, the glitch stays even if you use an item (like estus), rest at bonfire, quit the game, or even die - changing the weapons (even the secondary ones) breaks the glitch - the transferred attacks are - running attack, backstep attack (these two have the same animation), attack after dodging, and plunging attack. The attacks that aren't transferred - normal attacks, heavy attacks. Obviously, you can't perform a riposte, since you can't parry (cuz you're two-handing a weapon, duh), but for some reason you also can't backstab. When doing a jumping attack, a heavy attack is done instead for some reason - you can't buff the weapon in the left hand. Buffs include resins (probably because the game thinks you're trying to imbue a bow, which isn't doable without glitches) and spells (because you can't use a staff while two-handing a weapon, duh). - I haven't tested it, but if you buff the first weapon (rapier in the vid), the second one (bk sword in the vid) probably won't get the buff of the first weapon - self buffs from items (like eating Green Blossom) can be used during the glitch. Self buffs from spells (like Power Within) can be used before the glitch is performed, but not during the glitch (because swapping the weapon greaks the glitch) I think that's all I've discovered. Also, as I said, running and attacking has the same animation as backsteping and attacking. The backstep attack is quicker (and thus better) IMO, at least if you want to spam the double hit attack from the rapier Also also, I'd love for this message to get pinned 👀😳, so people can see it and potentially get answers to some of their questions

It does work on PS5. The initial setup can only be done with certain weapons. (Thrusting swords, curved swords, daggers work. Some others don't.) You can still Moveswap from other weapons by equipping them to your right hand after equipping the bow, before doing the turn around. The other thing is timing the equipping of the weapon to your left hand. It should be right around the time your character turns 180 degrees.
Amazing find! If you get summoned to another world, does the moveswap stay? Also, have you ever tried swapping with a catalyst to try and cast spells from a weapon?
I haven't used it online myself; but I believe it should stay when being summoned. If not, setting it up again should still be possible. Only certain attacks are affected by Moveswap (running, rolling and jumping attacks). So I don't believe it's possible to cast spells from a weapon. You can utilize Moveswap and Spell Swap to apply buffs to normally unbuffable weapons however.
i can't get this to work at all. i don't understand how I get "Use selected item" to appear in the first place. edit: got use selected item to appear, equipped the bow and turned around while swapping to weapon and it doesn't two-hand it
I have a question: does this moveswap work with any weapon other than the rapier? I have not been able to moveswap with the running attack of any other weapon class. If I try with a straight sword, or greatsword, or anything else, it doesn't work. You just end up holding the two weapons in each hand. So for example, I have not been able to use the running attack of e.g. an ultra greatsword while holding a dagger. EDIT: I have done it with dagger and thrusting sword movesets so far. This setup does not seem to work with straight sword, greatsword, ultra greatsword, or most other weapon classes afaik
The initial setup only works with certain weapons. You can swap the right-hand weapon to any other weapon after equipping the bow, before doing the turn around though.
I really cannot get this to work. Male, Estoc, Longbow, BKH. It doesn't two-hand in the end. the rest seems to work fine... Edit: Nevermind, i equipped BKH too early

Getting the text on the stamina bar is relatively easy. I just have both fingers positioned, so you press them at the time with your confirm button finger slightly lower. However, I have been unable to do the actual animation swap. I'm not sure if I should be holding L or not, I've tried both to no avail.

I open up the menu, select the Darksign, press use, press use again and 1 frame later press menu (ESC, E, E, E + ESC) 5. "Use selected item" appears above the stamina bar 6. I release block 7. I open up the inventory and pick a bow for my left hand (tried both using keyboard only and mouse only) 8. I hover over a different weapon for my left hand (some halberd above the bow), turn around and either press E or click on the weapon while turning (or right at the end of turning) Then, my character performs a light attack and I have both weapons equipped. If I don't release block (step 6) until after I've changed the left-hand weapon (step 8), my character two-hands the weapon in the left hand and performs a normal block. Same happens when I change the weapon towards the end of the turning animation.
Is there something specific about swapping weapons after jumping? I can do the jumping thing with darksign, and it goes black just like it does for you. But when I try to equip the weapon after the bow the glitch stops working and I see no results.

I’m having trouble with the timing when swapping the bow to the desired weapon. I’ve been able to do it a couple times but not consistently. It usually ends up with both weapons equipped. Is there specific timing? Do you just press down on the stick or do you rotate the stick
Press down on the stick to make your character turn around and then equip the weapon. It is possible to equip the weapon too early or too late and have it not work. The initial part of the swap can also only be done with certain weapons (daggers and thrusting swords work, some others don't). You can still Moveswap with those weapons, but there's an extra step. this likely means remaster times are going to come tumbling down more because the ptde move swap route was better than bkh. So remastered skips + moveswap is going to go hard. I will definitely give remastered another run to see what kind of time I can get (also no bkh means no rng thank god)
They'll still work like normal. Moveswap only affects the running, jumping and rolling attacks. It is possible to apply buffs to normally unbuffable weapons via Moveswapping a spell tool into your left hand and then Spell Swapping into the buff applying spell. This has some interesting effects on certain special attacks.
You're equipping it a bit too early if you end up attacking with it. If your character's hands come together, but then end up single handing both weapons, you equipped it too slow. Should be equipped right around the time your character turns 180 degrees.

@splee5566 at 3:15 for whatever reason my pg, where i was able to pull this moveswap out before, does an animation right before equipping the bow with the left hand and the glitch is not working anymore. Have this somehow already been noted?
It sounds like you might be queueing another action into the bow equip somehow, which is causing the stored left hand action to trigger early. It's hard to say what exactly is going wrong without seeing it though.

Does this work on all versions of dark souls remastered?
All except Switch.
Um. I was here?
Finally got it ima def get blocked by everyone now😈
Wow. Will this result in new wrs?
I'm not sure to be honest. There's definitely potential for it to be useful somewhere. So time will tell!

challange runners' mouths watering
i can't get this to work at all. i don't understand how I get "Use selected item" to appear in the first place.
edit: got use selected item to appear, equipped the bow and turned around while swapping to weapon and it doesn't two-hand it
This is just ds2 rapier now
I have a question: does this moveswap work with any weapon other than the rapier?
Been trying the jumping technique for a couple or hours now, and it's either I'm too slow or hit the sequence too fast. Let me know if anyone has gotten this to work on Switch!
Praise it broski 💙🥰
Thanks brotha
bro why does the moveset not swap for me?after i do the glitch do i have to do something else? i press r1 but it doesnt work
Much WOW you earned a sub

The Options button.

If I moveswap to piersing weapon does the weapon in left hand do piercing damage too? Does that mean I can do extra damage when counterattacking?
@@matwa3587 I'm not sure. Never actually tested that.
Can you moveswap all weapons? I got daggers, straight swords, katanas, thrusting swords and whips while everything else doesnt seem to work 😢
@@chrisbl1727 Yes. The initial setup only works with some weapons; but after equipping the bow, you can swap your right hand weapon to a different one before doing the turn around.
@@splee5556 after doing the initial setup with all of the compatible weapons i know of im still having issues with things like the Moonlight Greatsword and Zweihander where when i swap the right hand weapon after selecting the bow its just instantly 2 hands the bow and messes the entire thing up. I have been having this issue with other large weapons but weirdly enough things like the bonewheel shield do not do this. Do you know whats happening?
@@splee5556 i would also like to add that i cant seem to get a jumping attack to work at all, i know its not just a skill diff because the moment i disengage the moveswap it becomes super easy again but it wont do anything past normal R2 Heavy when 2 handing the left hand
@@sporehunter1 It won't work if you don't have the strength requirement to one-hand the weapon you're equipping to your right hand.
@@splee5556
i was able to achieve it on both a male and female character with the right stat requirements to wield the weapons, but for some reason it only gives me the ability to use the two handed running r1 move of the right handed weapon with the weapon in the left hand. is this a problem with my setup?
Moveswap only affects the running, rolling and jumping attacks.
how were you able to get it to work on male characters? i have been practicing this on female characters for about a week and a half and i can get it semi consistently but i still cannot perform it as a male. no matter how i time the weapon switch on turnaround i dont get the 2hand or any animation at all for a matter of fact. I just turn around holding one in each had
@@sporehunter1 which part are you having trouble with??
@@r4loids everything works including the menu glitching but when I do the turnaround there is no 2 hand animation regardless of how fast or slow I do it. I can do it perfectly with the female variant
@@r4loids streamable /02wdju You can use this to see my method with female characters
so what's the difference between this and PTDE's moveswap?
@@hamburgercheeseburger7959 In actual use, they're pretty much the same. It's the setup part that's different.
Getting the text on the stamina bar is relatively easy. I just have both fingers positioned, so you press them at the time with your confirm button finger slightly lower. However, I have been unable to do the actual animation swap. I'm not sure if I should be holding L or not, I've tried both to no avail.
You'll want to hold block until you see the use selected item prompt over the stamina bar. It is possible to swap the bow too early/late after turning around. The initial part of the swap also only works with certain weapons (thrusting swords and daggers work, some others don't). You can still swap from other weapons; they just need to be equipped to your right hand after equipping the bow, before doing the turn around.
@@splee5556 thank you
is there a way on the remastered version to buff unbuffable weapons with stuff like crystal weapon
Yes. If you Moveswap a spell tool to be in your left hand, two handed, you can then use Spell Swap to apply buffs on the weapon in your right hand, even if it's normally unbuffable.
i can't manage to jump while blocking , and can't manage to pull the glitch no matter how hard i try, maybe the reason is that i can't jump while blocking, i simply roll instead. .. no matter how long i dash before removing my finger and clicking the button again ,, ps i can jump normally when not blocking ...
edit:- i managed to jump when i changed the jumping hotkey to left thumbstick not B yet i still can't pull it off, i am playing DSR on PC, this works on pc not just consoles right?
Nevermind , i finally managed to do it after about 2 hours of practice, you have to press A the second time just a milisecond before start and keep doing it till it works, it works on pc at 11 / 9 / 2024
I'm having trouble with the glitch, I get the "Use selected item" over my stamina bar, however, the animation of the item (throwing knife) is still executed, which probably leads to the moveswap not working.
Same issue with the Darksign - it's not used, but once I turn around, some animation plays in the background before I change the weapon from Longbow to a halberd :(
Maybe the issue is me using fat roll?
Or is the issue just that it doesn't work past 1.01?
@@kasane1337 It needs to be an item with a confirmation prompt. It works on current patch. You might just be timing the equip wrong. It should be right around the time your character turns 180 degrees.
@@splee5556 EDIT: Okay, I just read another comment - it works, I just forgot it's only the running attack animation that's swapped :|
Hey, sorry for the ton of messages, just to make sure - I'm using the fat roll animation (due to its length), Bandit's Dagger in the right hand (2-handing it), mouse and keyboard and I do the following:
1. I 2-hand the weapon (dagger)
2. I hold down block
3. I roll (W + Space on keyboard)
4. I open up the menu, select the Darksign, press use, press use again and 1 frame later press menu (ESC, E, E, E + ESC)
5. "Use selected item" appears above the stamina bar
6. I release block
7. I open up the inventory and pick a bow for my left hand (tried both using keyboard only and mouse only)
8. I hover over a different weapon for my left hand (some halberd above the bow), turn around and either press E or click on the weapon while turning (or right at the end of turning)
Then, my character performs a light attack and I have both weapons equipped.
The initial setup only works with certain weapons. (Thrusting swords, daggers, curved swords work. Some others don't.) You can still Moveswap from other weapons by equipping them to your right hand after equipping the bow, before doing the turn around.
The other thing is equipping the weapon at the right time after turning around. It should be right around the time your character turns 180 degrees. If your character swings the weapon, you equipped it too early. If their hands go together, but both weapons end up one-handed, you equipped it too late.
@@splee5556 I see, thanks for the info. I'll keep practicing
@@splee5556 I got it right now, I was too late to go back from the item prompt and use item didn't appear for me. It works now. Cheers
Does it works even with peculiar weapons like the Moonlight Greatsword? Would it give it the beam to the r2?
@@mr.einwood2384 It only works with certain attacks. Namely the running, rolling and jumping attacks.
@@splee5556 oh, ok
I didn't get It
Thanks
I’m having trouble with the timing when swapping the bow to the desired weapon. I’ve been able to do it a couple times but not consistently. It usually ends up with both weapons equipped. Is there specific timing? Do you just press down on the stick or do you rotate the stick
Press down on the stick to make your character turn around and then equip the weapon. It is possible to equip the weapon too early or too late and have it not work.
The initial part of the swap can also only be done with certain weapons (daggers and thrusting swords work, some others don't). You can still Moveswap with those weapons, but there's an extra step. After equipping the bow, swap your right hand weapon to the desired one before turning around and swapping the bow with the other weapon.
How do you manage to press the button one frame after, I try and try but I can't get it, I think it is my finger placements
@@brickwitti I use my thumb for A and my index finger for Start. You want to press them at almost the same time. The delay between button presses is very, very short.
is it a full moveset swap or are there moves/attacks that will break it? for example I only see people using running attacks but never something like a simple light or heavy
It affects the running, rolling and jumping attacks. The only thing that will break it is swapping/changing weapons.
Can u tell how to do it without controller step by step?
A hero
Bro, i cant seem to jump while holind block, i only roll ? Any suggestions
You need jump to be bound to a different button than roll to jump while blocking. Mine is bound to the left stick.
@splee5556 thanks man 👍
CHEAT'S BACK ON THE MENU, BOYS!
do you need to be able to one hand the weapon, i keep trying this on the zweihander with only 16 str and it keeps failing, i also dont have enough dex for the rapier so i also cannot wield that, is thats what preventing me from doing this?
@@RigorousSeven You need the stats to one hand the weapon in your right hand.
@@splee5556 i tried using it with a different weapon and i still cannot get it to work, i get the menu set up just fine, equip a longbow (dont have stats for it though and didnt grab shortbow on this playthough) and i see my character two hadning the longbow, have handaxe in right, and try swaping to broken straight sword to just try the glitch and every time im just one handing each, i guess i also need the stats for the bow as well? (this playthough was giant dad stats so i have pitiful str and dex)
@@RigorousSeven Getting the unable to wield effectively message will trigger the queued input early. So you'll need the stat requirements for the bow you're using. The initial setup also only works with certain weapon types. (Daggers, thrusting swords, curved swords work. Some others don't.) You can still Moveswap from other weapons; but they need to be equipped to the right hand after you've done the initial setup with one of the compatible weapons and equipped the bow.
This is huge
this likely means remaster times are going to come tumbling down more because the ptde move swap route was better than bkh. So remastered skips + moveswap is going to go hard. I will definitely give remastered another run to see what kind of time I can get (also no bkh means no rng thank god)
How does this work with weapons with special heavys? Both for having it as the two-handed weapon and for having it as the "holstered" weapon?
They'll still work like normal. Moveswap only affects the running, jumping and rolling attacks. It is possible to apply buffs to normally unbuffable weapons via Moveswapping a spell tool into your left hand and then Spell Swapping into the buff applying spell. This has some interesting effects on certain special attacks.
@@splee5556 ah, good to know! Thanks a lot.
This is insane
BIG AND HUGE 🎉
Once i turn around and swap to the weapon after the bow it just attacks ands doesn't moveswap??
You're equipping it a bit too early if you end up attacking with it. If your character's hands come together, but then end up single handing both weapons, you equipped it too slow. Should be equipped right around the time your character turns 180 degrees.
@@splee5556 yeah i got it after a few more attempts. Amazing work and i am looking forward to seeing if it will be optimized even more.
