Valet service is a nice touch but each service had issues, they really need to work on the dealership experience.

Lol, I laughed out loud when I watched that part. One of the bmw dealership is good, but the other less so. Maybe not traditional Hyundai or (worse) Nissan bad, but… it narrows the gap. (I have ownership and shopping experience with all the above). My main point is… between their competitors failing and Genesis pushing upward, they’re steadily closing the gap. Kind of cool to watch it happen, tbh.

No folding rear seats: NO SALE -- under any circumstances. That was a really stupid decision. I love sedans and not SUVs, but they gotta have some utility with the folding rear seat. The Germans have had folding rear seats in their mid sized sedans for DECADES now (their main competition). Totally unacceptable.
@@mato8225 Thats what I’m saying. I work a corporate job, and the people that these car companies are targeting are high income professionals. because when people spend that kind of money for that kind of car and want it to last a long time they end up with an acura or a lexus. if they're looking for a short term image car, smart people, like my dentist, will typically lease an Audi/BMW/Mercedes for 24-36 months, rinse, repeat.

Oh please buy one. I have the 2018 G80. That is a gem of a car. There is a reason they don't make anymore GS. mmmmm. I know one of them because I owned 3. One 3rd gen. 2 4th generation. I drove Lexus for 20 yrs until I went for another GS my dealer of 20 yrs said no mo. They are discontinued. Yes the GS is done. My own dealer said hey go buy that G80. It's better than the GS an that's one of the reasons that the GS is going ghost. One of the reasons. The other? They jus didn't sale. But that G80 or the one I have now? Does knock the GS out. I've drove those GS's. Had my GENISIS FOR 2 YRS NOW. I will have the 2021 in November of 21. The best thing happened to me is the GS got discontinued and I loved my GS. Lexus the company is lazy. Great cars reliable but lazy. Trying to take ur money for less car. Genisis which is a excellent car gives you more for your money. Go figure.
oooO guys genesis is doing THAT well that some random comment says they have 70k they could drop on this car maybe we should take genesis serious now huh??🤔
From what other reviewers have said that tested the dBs, the cabin is the second quietest vehicle they have ever tested. Only bested by a Mercedes S Class Maybach I believe.
thats just nonsense... This car is nowhere near a standard S-Class, A8 or 7-series in the refinement chapter. Including noise insulation. And theres even the G90 to account for... What, are the folks at Genesis crazy and made the mid size sedan better than the full sized one? Absolute nonsense. Any of the 6L E Class hybrid Mercs are probably even more quiet than this due to the superior powertrain. Volvos are insanely quiet too. DB count does nothing. A single variable test is incapable of determining the noise level of a cars cabin. Not that long ago Ford Fusions and S-Max used to be top 10 in these lists, and those cars are not top 10 on noise insulation in real life.
@@AI-qd4vb Next time, come with facts, not your overblown German car worship. I'll take the word of actual car experts that test these kind of things for a living over someone who obviously loves German cars above all else.
I definitely agree. I currently own a G80 and have to get it serviced at a Hyundai dealership. Don't get me wrong, I love Hyundais. But it's just straight up weird when my loaner vehicle is an Elantra or Accent.
Another great review. I'm not crazy about that humongous grill. The flip side of the depreciation problem is affordability on the used car market. I bought a 2016 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 in February and got a really quiet, luxurious, well-appointed car with over 20,000 miles left on the factory warranty for just under $22k. I love the torque, effortless acceleration and sound of the naturally aspirated 3.8L V6. It's the quietest car I've ever owned and has a terrific 15-speaker sound system. The clarity and sound stage is awesome and the bluetooth connection is much faster than the one in my 2014 Accord. It's not as agile as my Accord, so I totally agree about the handling. It feels like a big car and doesn't corner as responsively as I'd like. There's a little creak from the panoramic sunroof on cold mornings with the shade open, but you can close it and the noise goes away. That's my only gripe. Despite the lack of premium dealer experience, the build quality is excellent. According to CR, the Hyundai and Genesis brands are more reliable and have better customer satisfaction ratings than Honda, Acura, Cadillac and most other brands. It's a solid value all around.
We went from last gen G80 to Volvo XC90. Absolutely love the XC90, would be an easy re-lease, however, I do miss the quietness of the 80, so we may get lured back in the next two years, maybe to the SUV or even back into the G80. For us, it was the level of luxury, refinement for the dollar and lack of brand recognition/public perception. I place a high value on Genesis' ability to provide higher levels of luxury while laying low. The Bowers system in the XC90 is incredible, but the Lexicon is no slouch either and the isolated interior certainly helps. Amazing review as always.
The top waterfall is a frequency response chart where the second graph is on the back and towards you is a timeaxis. Idealy the frequency graph is smooth and it dampens out in time, the lower frequencies rumble on a bit. The bottom graph is harmonic distortion and that should be low.
I looked at the 2017/2018 used prices and they’re not as cheap as everyone thought. The rate of depreciation is really not any greater than comparable bmws. But I’m sure they’re much more reliable than a comparable bmw.
This is a super quality review. Especially when you cover what it looks like below and an overview of the suspensions. Impressive. With that said I wish Genesis went with hybrid lineup instead of turbo.
I was anticipating getting a GV80 but, like your experience, my dealership experience from just discussing the vehicle did not go as I expected. I decided not to wait and instead got a 2021 BMW X5 xDrive 45e. The BMW drives amazingly, but has a very small 2nd row. Perhaps in 3 years Genesis will have worked out their dealership experience and I will consider them.
Have they fixed the defects in the hybrid BMWs yet? Heard it was an issue. Come to think of it, seems to be an issue with a lot of hybrids and new EVs from traditional ICE manufacturers.

There's a reason I'm subscribed to this channel, and that is because you guys share something in common with me. We all appreciate the finer things in life when it comes to cars. You are car enthusiasts while not going stupid overboard like some of those Brits do. You two are sensible and practical American car enthusiasts with whom I can greatly relate to. That being said, your perspective on the G80 is a little skewed. You mentioned that the top engine in the G80 isn't as great as the top engines in the Germans'. Yes, that is a true statement but do you think that a buyer looking at the G80 is thinking in those terms? I don't think someone looking at a M550i or M5 is cross shopping a G80.
Let's appreciate a major design factor for the North East and Canada. Extensive aluminum suspension components extends the longevity of the vehicles in addition of the weight and design advantages. Lexus/Acura/Mazda are not doing it so let give credit to where it is earned (German vehicles and perhaps Genesis from now on).
This. Hoovie changed my mind on these luxury turned sports car. So I went for an older Volvo. Cushy leather seats AWD and a float feel suspension. The seats dont have to pinch you, it's nice to sprawl and cruise.
I think the depreciation part will be better with this generation. Since the first gen had some identity crisis. This one along with newer models from genesis have much more consistency. Plus they just look more luxurious.
Rented the base model 2023 recently and drove 500 miles. Was great on gas, non branded speakers were above average and love that the exterior lights fade in and out opposed to just turning on and off. The self driving features and lane keep assist I had to turn off since it was very aggressive and made it appear as if I was driving distracted. Apple carplay disconnected often and wireless carplay wasn't an option. Turning radius is worst than a large suv, if you're making a u-turn or parking in a tight spot it requires some extra attention. The latest Avalon and ES350 felt quieter and had a much smoother drivetrain imo.
This is why I watch you. People don’t realize the dealer experience and depreciation is a big turn off. I see everyone in comments going on about the G70 and how it’s a better bet than a 3 Series or C Class but many haven’t actually bought or leased new ones. I have and seriously looked at a G70 and G80. Dealing with a Hyundai dealership can be excruciatingly aggravating. I hope and pray it gets better but between that and the depreciation it’s a solid no for me still.
Did he just say you will lease it because of the "depreciation".... Okay after selling cars for a while i realized Americans have a hard time understanding how this wokrs.... a Lease is a rental agreement in which you agree to pay the Depreciation of the vehicle and some build in interest while the vehicle is in your hands. There for if a car depreciates faster then other cars you are by NO MEANS ESCAPING THAT, YOU ARE THE ONE PAYING IT. Also because it's a new vehicle in depreciates most under the lease.....

I actually love the design. Looks modern in an almost futuristic way. Every so slightly ahead of the curve and obviously upscale. At least it's interesting to look at. Far better than bland.
The current K900 is actually derived from the Stinger's platform, which itself is a derivation of the DH Genesis platform. We'll have to see if Kia is actually excluded - I'm sure they'd like to use the new platform for a Mohave replacement.
In the late 1980s Hyundai and Dawoo were the only manufacturers to be selling low quality throw away disposable cars that were lucky to last you 30K miles without a major overhaul. What a difference 30 years make.
Dude you make this car look big. I'm a g80 owner, 2016 and was waiting for this so bad.. then I saw it next to my car... and its so small.. I was so sad.. I'm 6'5 lots of pounds. But its still pretty.. but luckily mine is still pretty too!!
Depreciation on ALL mainstream luxury cars is bonkers. So I'm not sure this is a valid concern for those shopping in this segment. Unless we're saying, all luxury vehicles should be leased? Further, with 100,000 mile warranty, it seems like this is more of "buy" and not lease car. On the other hand, we all know what happens to German luxury after 3 years or 36,000 miles.
@@cmacd8879 my credit score is high enough to allow me to lease German autos. I cannot and will not be caught slipping in these Chinese cars. My company won't even allow me to park this on the lot.

The previous G80 was amazing. I rented a 5.0 Ultimate on Turo and was floored by how smooth and quiet it was. I'm happy to see Genesis is still providing comfort first.
V6 is garbage turbo or non vs the v8... no more v8
All of your car reviews are always a pleasure to watch. The Genesis brand is really on its A game with its newer product, the G80 and GV80 are no exceptions to this.
I’d love to see your full in depth reviews on other hotly anticipated new vehicles like the new Chevrolet Suburban and Ford F-150. Keep up the good reviews!

Beautiful car and likely very reliable - Mercedes and BMW need to take note. I am personally fed up with poor German reliability, high parts pricing and a consistently poor service experience based on the 4 German cars that we have leased over the past 8 years.
Make the switch. You won't be dissappointed.
Absolute BEST car review channel on YT. Love your format/approach to your videos, CANDID words, and the depth in which you go into the details. Thanks, Rich.
I bought a G70 last year. The car is fantastic but he dealer experience is atrocious. None were interested to find me the car I really wanted and I ended up buying one in Arizona and have it shipped to TN. Valet service is a nice touch but each service had issues, they really need to work on the dealership experience.
Finally, a luxury car that focuses on comfort instead of pretending to be sporty.

I think Genesis is nailing these new products. They are designing and tuning for the market segment, hitting the nail on the head.
The dealership experience is a huge failing. That alone will kill it for many.
Lexus makes a great product, but the dealer experiences of all the luxury brands is a big reason we go back and buy and lease continually.
Lol, I laughed out loud when I watched that part.
I understand the dealership experience part, but I have to be honest, at least here in Seattle, the nearby Mercedes and Audi dealership experience has also been a bit crap.

Good point, and it's a shame the Lexus ES doesn't have folding seats, even though the vehicle it's based on (the Toyota Avalon), DOES.

@@mato8225 Thats what I’m saying. I work a corporate job, and the people that these car companies are targeting are high income professionals. Most of the time they’ll just go with an established brand because they don’t delve too much into the details and “value” isn’t what drives their decision (if value really mattered, you could get a tricked out Toyota Avalon with every creature comfort)
because when people spend that kind of money for that kind of car and want it to last a long time they end up with an acura or a lexus. if they're looking for a short term image car, smart people, like my dentist, will typically lease an Audi/BMW/Mercedes for 24-36 months, rinse, repeat.

From what other reviewers have said that tested the dBs, the cabin is the second quietest vehicle they have ever tested. Only bested by a Mercedes S Class Maybach I believe.
Amazing!
thats just nonsense...

Jack was much more sombre in this episode after that previous Acura TLX review haha. Loved that episode, keep up the good work gentlemen!
Yeah, I wound up with an XC90 as well for many of the same reasons. Ill talk more about that in GV80 video
can you do a vid about what the graphs on the audio test mean? Maybe interview the guy who tests them?
Haha. I thought I was the only one who had no clue what all the graphs meant. I’m glad you asked first.
Just look it up on UA-cam lmao
The top waterfall is a frequency response chart where the second graph is on the back and towards you is a timeaxis. Idealy the frequency graph is smooth and it dampens out in time, the lower frequencies rumble on a bit. The bottom graph is harmonic distortion and that should be low.
I never a car review where the guy goes str8 in and give facts without prep prep prep and let's u know about dealerships.. Wow, this was awesome 👍🏿

Couch on wheels is the vehicle my wife really wants so it seems like one of these used in a few years would be perfect (she prefers used cars).
I was thinking the same, especially if the warranty is transferrable. I like comfortable cruisers.
I looked at the 2017/2018 used prices and they’re not as cheap as everyone thought. The rate of depreciation is really not any greater than comparable bmws. But I’m sure they’re much more reliable than a comparable bmw.
I like the Kia Cadenza too. Used 2017s are even cheaper. While not quite in the same league as the Genesis, I think of them as sort of a Korean Buick.

Cinematography on another level. Btw, I love the new car designs from Genesis.

Can every commentator not go! its not a sports car!? Not everyone wants a sports car!!!!!!! Some peeps want a luxury cruiser which is reliable!
This. Hoovie changed my mind on these luxury turned sports car. So I went for an older Volvo. Cushy leather seats AWD and a float feel suspension. The seats dont have to pinch you, it's nice to sprawl and cruise.
Yep. In my opinion, something like the Lincoln Town Car never got replaced in the market.
I can't believe Genesis still refuses to resolve that dealership fiasco with you.
@Maciej Badower that's pretty much correct I like cars that are say 3-4year old with 20-40k miles I know I'll get another 70k out no problem for me that's 5-6years

When you say the architecture is exclusive to Genesis and Kia can't share, does that also include the K900?
The current K900 is actually derived from the Stinger's platform, which itself is a derivation of the DH Genesis platform. We'll have to see if Kia is actually excluded - I'm sure they'd like to use the new platform for a Mohave replacement.
