I guess the motors might be similar for other Wagner models as well
A few months ago I bought for aprox $140 this paint gun.
I bought it, because I am doing some small renovation in my apartment and before this I used this paint sprayer (I borrowed) for one big project and I had some good experience with it.
A few days ago I was doing some primarying and for surprise for me the paint got in the engine part, where it should not be, I dont know how this happened, since before this I used same model Wagner paint gun for like 2 week project where I painted a lot and I even could not imagine this can happen, especially while it was assembled.
Any way when it happened I thought I need to open it up and clean it, but I didnt have right tool to open it up and since the sprayer was working ok, I thought, maybe I need to run it not stop work, so paint does not get deeper but by air is pushed out. So I finished the work and went home. Next time when I needed to do next room I tested the Wagner paint sprayer and it worked, I painted the room and everything seemed ok. Then I when for next room and figured out I need to change spray pattern and I changed it for wider size and sprayer motor just stopped working.
I thought it is weird, first I hoped it is some sort of overheating thing since I worked for a while, but after 15 minutes I decided maybe I need to give a hard shake to sprayer and it started to work, but half power with a lot of sparks.
After sparks etc., I quickly turned it off and now for sure I had to open it up, especially by knowing that motor is kind a working!
To open this up you will need torx 10 and torx 15 screwdriver with a hole in middle of bit!
You wont need any other tools!
Since I could not find any other video how to do it, especially with Wagner paint s[prayer motors, this fix took me some time and I learnt a few things in process.
I hope my video will be helpful for you if you got in similar situation and want to fix the paint sprayer!
This video might be helpful as well for those who wants to replace the brushes since it is possible for this Wagner paint sprayer and does not take too much to do it if you once done it or seen how to do it.
Overall I must say I was happily surprised that the motor was not one time motor, but motor you can actually disassemble and later on put back together
To be honest I yet to have to check how fix will work in life, but the motor is running now smoothly!

This was the information I needed. About to reassemble after cleaning. You'd think Wagner would design a better duct to prevent paint from flowing back to the motor

Good video. I didn’t have paint inside. I had rust from cleaning with water. Sanded everything, work fine now.

Brilliant video. Exactly the same for me. My version has black plastic panels on the side and end that you can just clip off. Took both of the brushes out and one was stuck solid with paint. Fortunately it was water soluble paint, so cleaned them up, sprayed a bit of isopropyl alcohol on them to displace any water. Put it back together and working absolutely perfectly.

Exact same issue, and this video was really helpfull to disassemblyle and fix. Nice job!
The exact problem with my sprayer was that the paint insixe the motor prevented one of the spring loaded brushes from moving to contact the rotor. Clearly a design flaw that allows paint to get to the motor and cause this issue with normal use. What I don't know is, how do you prevent it from happening again? It's. It like you should run water through the motor to clean it.

Hi, Thank you so much for this video ! I disassembled the motor as you show it and I found so much paint in it. One of the motor brush was completely stuck in paint. Maybe I will need to replace it by a new one. I search on Internet but the only ones that looks similar are for washing machine and they looks too big.
Refering to your channel, you looks as a very good mechanic. I thought that maybe you could help me to find the good model of those motor brush.
I live in Canada but I can order from anywhere worldwide as long as I am sure to order the right item. I thank you in advance for any help you could give me or my husband (Michel) who already wrote you for the same matter.
I am better in searching internet or to manage my UA-cam channel. Please answer me first if you don't mind.

Thanks for this video. Last time I washed my paint sprayer, I forgot to put back the red washer in the nozzle. What a mess !! The paint went inside my motor and I tried to clean it the best way I could but I didn't succed. After seing your video, I desassemble the motor and I found so much dryed paint in it that it couldn't work. One of the motor brush was completely coverd of paint. I soak the parts in hot water with black soap for a few hours and scrub every little parts with a dentist tool and a needle. I finnaly got all the paint off. I think that I should remplace the motor brush that was full of paint because I dammaged it in scrubbing the paint. Do you hage an idea of the motor brush model I should order ? I search on internet but the only similar motor brush I found were for washing machines and they seams to be too big. Thanks for your help.

Hi there, I dont know exact dimensions/part number of the brushes, but I suggest you to take one out and if hardware or electronic tool shop does not have the same one, buy little bigger and just file the new one to the original size. Of course it is not the best solution, but if you do good job, it will be as good as original, if you wont file it quite a close to original dimensions, it may overheat and melt the plastic where brushes are located and destroy the motor. Sorry for not beining able to help.
