PSVR2 and Gran Turismo 7 - Our First Look!

- We've been hands-on with the PSVR2 headset, and Gran Turismo 7 on PS5.
Based on our limited-time preview, we think this is a transformative step forward for console virtual reality gaming and, as a value proposition, VR racing in general.
The entirety of GT7, minus local split-screen multiplayer for obvious reasons, is playable with the PSVR2 - and that includes rain, all tracks, all cars, the full career, licence tests, missions and even online. Both lobbies and ranked Sport Mode.
The VR functionality will be available as a free game update on 22nd February, alongside the PSVR2 headset itself. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

Hyped! I rather enjoyed GT Sport and Driveclub with PSVR, and an entry level wheel/pedal set.
It looks great and I'd love to buy it, though I just cant justify the cost as I have a gaming PC with a 3080ti. Still, games like this make me miss my playstation

A full Gran Turismo in VR is a dream many of us have held onto since the launch of psvr1, glad we're finally seeing it realized. PSVR2 is gonna kick ass.

I preordered PSVR2 today. I was on the fence, but I feel like we need to support Sony with this one. it is be or not to be for future VR AAA content. Can't wait for the 22nd!

Why do you need to support a corporation that by its very nature is only interested in profit? They do not care about you.
Had mine preordered as soon as they opened it. VR offers experiences you'll never get by looking at a traditional screen. It's totally worth the cost.
You bring up a very valid point for all you on the fence just pre order and show Sony they made the right choice because it’s Sony carrying AAA VR with this amazing headset. You only live once so do whatever you have to to buy one a support Sony on continuing on the VR journey!
I was never interested in a VR but I always knew the potential of it and that gaming is going that direction. However since I bought my sim rig my interest in VR grew. Finally when they announced GT7 on VR2 I pre-ordered it without hesitating. This is exactly the review I was looking for and removed any doubts in my mind! Good job👍🏼
This is gonna sell a lot of headsets. I already have the steering wheel and pedals setup. Can't wait for this!

The VR mode in GT Sport (whilst limited) was a joy to behold! Graphics aside, there is NOTHING that can compare to the immersion felt in VR. Watching a video of VR gameplay CANNOT convey the sense of presence. You're in for a treat! Pro-tip: Start slow and on flat tracks. It takes a while to get your VR legs. Tracks with lots of undulation or suddenly coming to a stop or moving backwards can be nauseating. Take a break and try again later. I usually advise friends to get used to VR on stationary and roomscale experiences before moving onto more high thrills experiences. Whilst there's an understandable urge to want to jump into the fastest vehicle or wildest game, VR can take some adjustment. Have fun!!
I am super stoked to don the new headset and dive head long into GT7. I suspect the "sky is falling" crowd that only focus on the perceived negatives concerning the headset, i.e., wire connection, price, false news stories, etc., are going to eat their words. Bring on PSVR2, we are beyond ready!
Let the haters hate...they can sit on the sidelines in their "real" world, while watching all of us have fun in our virtual worlds...getting experiences you can't anywhere else

I can’t wait for psvr2! If this headset released on pc people would be saying how it’s a bargain price for what you get. PSVR has always costed more than the console itself. I hope once people try it they will end up buying it because I want lots of support for it in the future.

Looking forward to this. Its perfect for people with sim setups could get rid of having multiple screens. VR is huge when it comes to racing games etc.
Completely agree! With a rig, wheel and pedals we don't think you can get closer to reality on console with this bundle, as it stands. And of course the space saving will be appreciated... at least I know my partner would appreciate it
I wasn’t really interested in GT7 or racing games until it was announced for VR2. Now, after buying the game last month, it’s one of the VR experiences I’m most looking forward to!
It's kind of beautiful isn't it? PSVR2 and GT7 are getting VR fans who never played racing games into the racing genre, and racing fans who weren't interested in VR are being pulled into the VR community

@@paulatredies9242 Yup same here! I've never played a GT game and only have experience with the old Need For Speeds and Burnouts in terms of racing games, but I bought GT7 on sale as soon as I heard it was getting full VR support and I've actually been loving it just on the flat screen!
You NEED to play dirt rally 2.0 in VR also
@@Jdb63 I loved 2 back in the day, and this reminds me of it in that it felt like a racing game combined with an RPG. Running races with my favorite cars, earning cash, tweaking and upgrading. And that’s what I’ve heard 7 nails too. Just more excuse to keep my headset on! I love full games in VR, short experiences are neat, they don’t sustain me though.
I'm so happy to see that the showroom is so full featured. I do a lot of painting cars, and getting to see them up close like that is going to be so fun for me.

I've completed the license tests up to A, and have a livery of 35 cars. I am not playing any more until I receive my PSVR2 headset. Our multi- year waiting period is almost over, I CAN"T WAIT! Great video and thank you for the information, you just made the anticipation all the more exciting!
I just got the game yesterday and did all the licenses...the final test of the final Super License almost killed me lol...bring on PSVR2!!!

Racing sims are the only reason I held onto my Rift S, but the image quality with that headset isn't exactly sharp. This PS5 experience looks unreal!
Just installed the game last night can’t wait !!Feb 22nd can’t come sooner!!

I'm a PC VR only guy, and I've been excited about PSVR2 for everyone else and for the industry, but this first video that's actually made me consider getting one!
I'm waiting for a next gen OLED headset for PC, but it is looking like that's at least a year away.
Seriously tempted now! I'd have to buy a PS5 too, but it's looking like PSVR2 is shaping up to be something special so I wouldn't mind going in for the long haul.
Exclusives like GT7 are a big deal, and the potential for Sony to bring other exclusives into VR is extremely promising.

I've got a reverb G2 and a quest 2 and have like yourself was thinking of getting a new vr headset for my pc. I've opted for a ps5 and psvr2 as I feel having access to the playstation exclusive games will be a better investment than getting another pcvr headset at the moment .
@@pmulherin9414 Probably a smart move. For me, if I were to upgrade to a new headset on PC, I'd need to upgrade my GPU too. It would cost me way more than a PSVR2 + PS5.
And there's no next gen OLED PC VR headset on the horizon, none even announced.
And the PS exclusives are a big deal too which we likely won't get on PC. PC VR is awesome but in terms of exclusives, there's really not much at all and PS has way more potential here.
@Clarissa 1986 considering that the Oled screens on smartphones are of extremely different quality, it will be the same on the vr headsets. Also note that Sony has the best by far image control on the TVs, so the psvr2 will also get this technology or optimisation.
Also, you can calibrate your screen so the pixels don't shut off by raising the black levels. That way you don't get perfect blacks, but you get rid of the smearing effect. Try it if you can on the quest 1.
@@Clarissa1986 GAMMA is out of the question of course, what I meaned is the image settings where you can as in photoshop calibrate each individual color. I guess you have to download a third party app to be able to do it if you cant directly on the quest 1. But if you find a way to do it, you WILL get rid of the smearing ;)
I actually think the game will look BETTER in the headset than on a screen, 2 reasons for this:
1) 120fps (or maybe 90?) instead of 60fps => that's already a huge temporal resolution upgrade
2) if done right (meaning aggressively), the FOVEATED rendering can allow to display greater visible detail than otherwise possible on a full screen with normal rendering. If only 20% of the pixels need to be rendered at the highest quality, and 80% can be rendered at much lower quality, then even with double the framerate, the game could still appear sharper and more detailed.
I wonder how the foveated-ness makes the image look different than it looks in the video they've released. Like is that a video image of it all foveated or un-foveated?

After playing Dirt Rally,Wipeout and Driveclub on the PSVR I can safely say VR and racing games are a match made in heaven.
Man I hope they port Wipeout Omega Collection to PSVR2. It already looked gorgeous even on the PSVR.

Yep - pre ordered for GT7 (tho will enjoy other games I suspect). I also purchased the PS5 a year or so ago purely because if GT7 and figured there would be a new psvr sooner or later- can’t wait for the 22nd!👍

When I learned that GT7 was playable on PSVR2, I immediately placed my preorder, this is the "KILLER APP” for this set up.
In past few months i was always sayin to my friends, yeah VR is cool but it’s lacking content!
I was telling them I will buy it if only we get full GT7 in VR ! And now it’s here ! Can’t be more excited!!

I haven't played a Grand Turismo game since GT3 and I'm SUPER hyped for this. Already bought GT7 and pre-ordered PSVR2 a while back.
I am sooo looking forward to racing gt7 in VR. This will be epic! We have the old PSVR and we love it. And what people, who were fortunate enough to test the PSVR2, tell about their experience with it it has to be so much better than the previous one. I can not wait to lay my sticky fingers on it and put this thing on my had.🤪
I am really going to struggle to pick a game to focus on when the PSVR releases. RE8, GT7, Horizon, Switchback, Kayak and No Man Sky all have my attention. I'm going to love seeing my boys reaction to having a go on this too, he loves playing Forza on his Xbox, but I suspect he will be ditching that once he has a taste of this.
GT7, Horizon and Kayak for me. Adventure, Racing on the edge and escapism when life takes hold.

If you never played VR you will enjoy Horizon. If you've played VR it will be incredibly boring and like going back in time to 2016. GT7 is the only new and exciting thing.
@@BD-zg7is I’m new to VR and to get the other half on board I had to get a game she would enjoy as well 🤣 so Horizon because we both enjoyed the series so far, kayak for the quality graphics and to escape when ever and I’ve already got GT7 with a sim set up so that’s a no brainer. Can’t wait to get back into it after a few months out 🙌🏼 what about yourself?
I sold my very expensive VR Rig and headset and pre-ordered the PSVR2, its not a niche product at £1k for a full VR system with OLED displays screens, eye tracking and foveated rendering plus haptics in both the headset and the controllers, its actually a very cheap product for what it is bringing to the VR world, and at a fraction of the cost of a mid to high end PCVR system.

Preordered psvr2 a while back, it releases on my birthday so rude not to! 😂 had psvr1, vive, rift and quest 2… easy to see psvr2 is the best all round system and hmd yet and with GT7… it has a AAA killer app at last! Thank you Sony for still believing in VR!!

GT7 is one of the key reasons I pre-order PSVR2. I said, "All I needed from them is to make GT7 full game happen." They did. Now, my final VR request is Cyberpunk 2077 VR. I'll be set for a long, long time if we get that.

Sounds like we’re about to get something unique and special on the PlayStation ecosystem. I hope that reviews and word of mouth can start making it more mainstream. The potential is insane!

You can't go back once you experienced racing in vr. There's no comparison in terms of immersion. I do race in vr since 2019 daily. Went through three vr headsets already. It's getting better and better. Don't hesitate, get the vr and enjoy sim racing!

How do you think psvr2 will compare to pcvr? I'm worried I should just stick with pcvr but also I'd like to play Gran Turismo 7 with vr lol. I have a 3090 and and 5950x so hardware is fine...but I don't wanna buy 2 headsets here and I also don't wanna buy the quest so I'm looking at at least $1k on any other quality headset.
@@mycarrysun from my experience it all depends on how well the game is optimized for VR. Some sim race games for pc like ACC are not made for VR. sure it runs, but the price is high. I own a 3080 rtx. Other titles like AMS2 or iracing look pretty good with solid fps. Depends on the engine i guess. Not an expert tbh. You have a very beefy system. You can enjoy max quality with your pc. If you're looking for a sim racing or flying VR headset for sitting position only, the hp reverb g2 is a solid and affordable choice atm. Hope this helps :-)
I'm pretty sure gran turismo will be optimized to it's max for the ps vr.

Affordable, easy to use, and delivering a substantial better experience than previous technologies. This is one of the very few applications where I see VR actually making sense. Very cool.
$1000+ isn't affordable in any way...
@@BD-zg7is less then your IPhone but will last 10 times longer. This is absolutely a bargain for anyone looking to get into VR. The tech is unmatched and not even comparable at such a cheap price.

I preordered the PSVR2 because (except for the Move controllers and the umbillacle cord required to connect it to the PS4) the PSVR was actually quite a great gaming experience with lots of great games. What I had NOT bought before was GT7. Honestly, since I have an XBox Series X with GamePass, and Forza is great and included in GamePass, I just didn't feel like I also needed GT7. I hope someone from Sony sees this, because I bought GT7 last night because it has the PSVR2 expansion. That's the only reason. And I'm stoked to try it!
I know people keep talking about how the PSVR2 is expensive, but really, it's cheaper than the PSVR was when you remember that it required a $60 PS Camera and two $40-50 Move controllers. Adjusted for inflation from 2016-2023, the PSVR is about $50 less and so much better. Can't wait to try Moss Book 2, Resident Evil Village and of course Horizon VR, but I hope MANY more games add VR the way GT7 is doing it (actually this is what No Man's Sky did too - release the VR expansion and let you play the whole game from a new perspective). If only Red Dead Redemption 2 would do the same ... sigh...

At first I wasnt going to bite on GT7 just yet and maybe not even at all. I was going to wait and see if Dirt Rally would get an update in which case I was going to buy another T150... But seeing this... Ive just bought another T150... Already spent too much so I will still have to wait to get GT7 itself but yeah man, I am hyped, I hope Dirt Rally comes back too!

I wasn't going to get it but I always said if GT7 was supported it would be an immediate purchase, this got me, I couldn't refuse.
Had it preordered since November.
Re8 and horizon already showed of how amazing the headset could run games , between those 2 and fair few others such as walking dead part1 &2 ,no mans sky and even some of the smaller games that was enough for my pre order.
GT7 announcement made me buy gt7 after not buying a racing game since gt4 or 5.
very tempted to get wheel ect but not sure how the would be gaming on sofa
if you can find a way get yourself a wheel.......you will never put it down with a vr setup like this to go with it
But how do you see the steering wheel buttons when in vr? I've never used a wheel so not sure how important the buttons are whilst driving.
@@agentshillbot I use a wheel and and I don;t ever remember staring down at buttons while driving.....you just now where they are from feel......do you stare at your controller buttons when playing a game? lol

Got the psvr2 preordered and just used vacation time to be home for delivery. Not much of a racing game guy but when it’s vr I’m definitely going to try this one.
Can’t wait to fully immerse myself with this now. I got into Sim racing on the PS5 a couple of months after GT7 came out. Slowly built up my kit, experience and skills. I haven’t raced on GT7 for a couple of months for various reasons but now I’m ready to come back to it. Luckily i pre-ordered the PSVR2 bundle when PlayStation sent me an invite. I was potentially going to cancel it but knowing this setup for GT7 is full it has cemented my decision to keep the pre-order. Time to level up!
I'm a PC sim racer and also a PCVR sim racer and this looks,graphically at least,like it will be the new benchmark for VR sim racing,by quite a margin.
Just a shame my sim rig isnt PS5 compatible.:(

We did have a couple of other racing titles on psvr1 in Dirt rally and Driveclub VR.
I hope the VR pc versions of Assetto Corsa and ACCompetizione make it to psvr2 too.

Not really a racing fan, but have to say this does look pretty tempting in VR.
I'd pre-ordered PSVR 2 for Horizon Call of the Mountain, but the announcement of a FREE patch for GT7 giving it FULL VR playability is icing on the cake! I cannot wait to get my wheel and headset plugged in and play through the campaign.... and hopefully online with friends one day!
A big advantage of VR is that when I crash I dont have to spend 4 days in the hospital.
Wow, it looks totally amazing getting that from a console. I've done VR racing on the PC but I can't handle it. It's a bit too overwhelming for me lol. I prefer slower moving VR games.

Really looking forward to PSVR2. Can't wait to play this in my playseat with my wheel. Also, together with Horizon, No Man's Sky, Resident Evil and a few others this seems like an amazig launch lineup to me. Really don't understand all the complaints about it.
Two exclusives, one being a short boring linear VR gameplay demo that looks like it came from 2016. SOO exciting to do stuff like CLIMB LADDERS and USE A BOW AND ARROW in 2023 LUL

GT Sport in VR was amazing, even being so limited, for me, it was absolutely incredible.
Now, having the chance to play the full GT7 with this beauty. My goodness. I'm in the middle of a moving, so, I can't just buy it now, but damn it, as soon as I finish with everything, I'm going to say bye bye to my wife, daugther and cats for at least 5 days hahaha.
Can't honestly wait for this. Quick question though, everybody is talking about graphics, which seem to be almost almost the same as in a flat screen because of the FOV rendering, but, how about sounds with a Pulse 3D headset? I just read a couple of things about it, but nobody really elaborated much about it, and I think, think, that considering how amazing the game already is, adding VR and a level of immersion like that with proper 3D sound can be just amazing.

This is gonna be amazing pre ordered my VR2 this is too impressive.
Obviously VR is unbeatable for immersion in racing games, but PD could do a lot more for regular non VR immersion, such as:
1. FOV adjustment + speed based FOV
2. More seat position adjustment
3. A Proper bonnet/hood camera
4. Look to apex
I bought a Logitech G29 and the h pattern shifter, and I preordered the psvr 2, now I am looking for a cockpit and a seat. It was never before this cheap to get a vr aided sim racing setup. I bought a pc for 2500 usd worth and sofar I find myself spendibg more time on my ps5, which was a fraction of the cost in comparison.
First video that's actually made me consider PSVR2, as I am a PCVR only guy waiting for the next PCVR OLED headset.
But knowing we may be a year or more away from that, this is seriously tempting.

I pre ordered mine a while back, I wanted to make sure I got one in case the scalpers decided to ruin this launch too. The more I hear the more I get excited for it, especially if they start making the existing VR games I already have available for it.
I'm really glad to see Sony bring this to life. Been playing Assetto Corsa on PC modded with a HP Reverb G2 and full Fanatec setup with a motion rig, analog ebrake, buttkicker subs, and 120mm server fans for wind sim ... and it's a fantastic experience. At least with a proper wheel / shifter / pedals setup, this will be a great PS VR experience for much cheaper.

I wish Microsoft would do something similar with VR and Flight Simulator..that would be awesome! I preorderd my VR2 for PS5! I cant wait to race with my rig!

Got my pre order in and this is a stand out game for me in VR. Loved the limited GTSport in VR but the visuals were very blurry. I can’t wait to experience PSVR2

“…despite requiring a separate processor box” the aux box in PSVR1 was not a processor box but was there for social screen, split HDMI signal and assist with some 3D audio. It gave the PS4 no additional processing power.
That resoL;ution looks on another level that the previous version game, team who developed hardware and the racing game itself took their job and done it nicely
This is the moment I've been waiting for so long! I can almost smell the motor oil and burning rubber. And I'm not even a racing game fan, it's just that vr makes me love genres I'm not normally that excited about 🔥

Vr will really be at it peak in the 2030-35 when it will be 8k per eye, wireless with long battery time, very light and pefect hand/body gesture. kids of the future will have a blast.
People are in for a hell of a treat. Once I played Assetto Corsa Competizione in VR on my sim rig I could NOT go back to playing GT7 on my 65" OLED. I literally have not touched it since then. The VR experience is just ridiculous for racing games. The immersion is top tier and it is literally one of the best overall gaming experiences I've ever had.
This in turn caused another problem; I couldn't play ACC anymore either lol As a complete package ACC pales in comparison to GT7. With ACC you're limited to GT3 cars. I absolutely can not wait to whip the Camaro ZL1 around the Nordschleife!!
GT Sport on PSVR1 was a disappointment for sure so I’ve settled for racing on the wheel with a big screen up front for a long time. Preordered PSVR2 for all the other games announced but now that you’ve confirmed how good GT7 is, I think I’ll be spending a lot of time on the virtual track 👍
For me GT Sport on PSVR1 was fantastic, first VR experience! But due power restrictions of PS4 Pro I understood that I need PCVR for simracing and other VR games))
