    I think the relentless hatred of TC use by many Gran Turismo UA-camrs over the past few years has given many players the false feeling that TC is only for the lesser gods. I can't prove that with numbers, it's my feeling based on the ongoing discussion on this topic. That's why I think it's good that this video at least shows that it's a bit more nuanced than just "TC? Nuh-uh!".
    I've been using TC since day one, in the entire range from 0 to 5, depending on the type of car, track, weather conditions, stationary or rolling start, tires and whatever else can justify using it. I'm not a top driver by a long shot, I do play the game seriously but mainly for fun. If using TC makes my lap times a few tenths slower (which is questionable whether that's really the case), but I have better control of the car and don't spin or go off the track, I'll have a more enjoyable race. And that, for me as an amateur, is the goal of playing the game.

      It has, up until 1.49, felt much worse to use. I don't think people hate that othera are using it, it's just that it really took the fun out (aka, skill) out of driving the car. 1.49 has changed this a fair bit as TC use is far more situational, and has become "just another thing" to adjust, rather than a crutch (that it was previously)

      TC DOES make your lap times slower but it has a few buts, let me explain.
      The fastest way to drive any car in Gran Turismo will always be using no tc, but it is directly proportional to your skill. If you have a smooth feeling with the throttle, no matter what conditions you're going to be faster, if you turn TC even if you tried to be as smooth as possible you'd go slower because TC doesn't activate when the car is about to slide, it activates when you go over certain RPMs while having a turning angle that's over the limit each TC level has, even if you're not suposed to slide TC will activate.
      This being said. Not everybody can control the throttle as they'd like so turning TC will make their lap times quicker because they don't have to worry that much about their throttle inputs and will go through the corners smoothly.

      In real life TC is used pretty heavily to help keep you fast since it makes more traction for the wheels. And apprently banned in f1 for removing the skill of controlling the vehicle.
      So real life TC is "cheating" helping you put out more force to the road.
      Gt7 is weird with it honestly

    Great stuff, Tidge! I've been running with TC1 as my default for quite a while now. It hardly ever activates in dry conditions -- even less since the 1.49 update -- but when it does, it's usually saving me from a self-inflicted spinout. It's great to see your tests confirming what I've felt was the case all this time -- that TC1 doesn't really slow me down. If I'm slow, it's for completely unrelated reasons.

      I’ve never used traction control. This latest update makes me seriously consider it, but it’s only because some cars have now turned into the stock Muria. I wish they’d leave their game alone, that’s the hardest thing about this game is constantly having to tweak your racing habits after an update. I had a car that was loose but I could manage it and had a lot of fun with it, one update and now it’s a huge challenge just trying to stop the back end from coming around.

    MG your content is never padded with fluff. It’s all good stuff. I appreciate all the effort -I know how long all that takes. Since update 1.47 I’ve been switching between TC 0 and TC 1 as much as I’ve been switching the ABS from default to weak. From what I can gather it seems to be more beneficial in F/R cars for both acceleration and braking.
    TC 1 can save you from those stupid lost concentration mistakes. I leave it off in time trials but often go there in a race as it helps when door banging starts 😂

    They absolutely fixed the TC in this game with this update. TC1 and TC2 allow for wheel spin still. I can get the car to spin on throttle out of a turn even with tc on 2. like completely spin out and 360. That never used to happen before. TC1 and TC2 are safe and not much slower than tc off, just a hell of a lot safer. The new TC model does not intervene as badly now. This new model is definitely something that will help with the new tire model as well. As tires start to fade, turn TC on. Be faster than pitting

    I’m almost always at TC 1. But more powerful cars can require TC 2. It’s only at TC 3 and above that I’ve noticed the speed reduction while gearing and/or coming out of corners.
    Some of the super and electric cars almost require a higher setting to prevent a spin out. I can’t recall the model but, even at TC 5, it continues spinning the tires with a wicked sound effect all the way to gear 6 🤯.

If anything throttle control which you are forced to learn if you are on 0 is a massive benefit in general when it comes to racing skill. Slamming on the throttle and waiting for tc to bail you out is not a good way to drive as soon as you have a bit more power or need throttle control you will be spinning out. I've recently started turning TC off whenever I can, but even so, TC1 does an excellent job of taming the oversteer on corner exits in most situations without slowing me down.
    However in some situations getting rotation mid-corner can be significantly impacted, so what I would say is if you're being slowed down by understeer, then try turning it off and see if you can manage without it, otherwise try setting it to 1 or 2 and don't be ashamed of using it.
    As Tidge proved, it's nearly identical in times to TC0 in most situations whilst giving you more confidence when you need it.

    • @geoganicus7238
      @geoganicus7238 6 місяців тому

      For a top tier driver yes. He is good enough to compensate. The rest of us. Not so much. TC1 will definitely slow you down by about 1-200th sec per lap at least. If you can train yourself to be more precise on inputs then TC0 is definitely the fastest & most precise.

    • @PaulTheFox1988
      @PaulTheFox1988 6 місяців тому +2

      @@geoganicus7238 On the flip side, if a driver isn't capable of compensating for TC being on, then they're definitely not going to be good enough to compensate for power oversteer coming out of corners, and compensating for power oversteer is much harder than learning to work around the limitations of TC.
      Imo for most drivers being slightly slower and only being able to get into the top 5 with occasional podiums is far better than consistently being near the back because they keep spinning out while trying to keep up, which is demoralising and unenjoyable.
      Games are supposed to be fun, and a driver will have more fun if they feel competitive using TC than languishing in last without it.
      In time trials I'm consistently in the top 2-2.5% of times and occasionally breaking into the top 1000 times, with approx 86% of my medals being gold and the rest being silver, but without TC1 (and Tidge's guides of course) I'd be lucky to get silver, so if it does slow me down, so be it, but at least for me and presumably most other drivers in GT7, TC helps them be more consistent and quicker than without it.

I stillvthink race C is fun cause itvis something different and definitely takes more driver awareness and reflexes

    I've been playing GT since GT2. But I have never onced considered using TC as not as skilled or lesser than not using TC. With GT7, I mainly use no TC. But for some of the higher powered cars like group 1, I set that sucker to TC 1 or TC 2. Never knew it was frowned upon until recently. But race you want.

    What is fastest is what you're comfortable with! :)
    I can use some G1 cars with TC0 but some are awful to not spin for me with TC1. It really just depends on a lot of factors, but seriously, if you're comfortable with one thing, just stick to it, because you'll just improve in the end.

    I never actually used it, and I do tend to spin out lately (first lap cold tires)
    Maybe I give the lower levels a try tomorrow, feels a bit like cheating though.
    But I saw a youtuber today in one of my racers and I checked out his channel.... He races with brake zone on, I was kinda surprised i thought people turned that on the first two races when the game is new and then turn it of, guess not. 🤪
    But it explains why some people are still tapping the brakes on suzuka with that little bend at the end of the lap, which is ffing irritating, it's like getting brake checked.
    Close racing is out of the window then cause you have to keep in mind they are going to brake there.

    After a few hundreds hours on racing sims (more like thousands now but anyway), I will always say that on the GT games, mastering driving without TC will always be faster than driving with TC, the only time I use it is on tricky weather conditions, only as a safety thing (i try using it as little as i can, not at all being the best). But if you're more comfortable and quicker with TC, continue using and abusing it, and find the perfect TC setting for you

IMO it would have probably been a better for you to have used one of the Mission acceleration events for better in game car performance timing data unless there’s a stated reason it’s not accurate. Otherwise I appreciate you putting in soo much effort and time trying to make a entertaining video

    I dunno if I'm imagining it but it feels to me like TC gives alittle more lateral grip when turning, and feathering the throttle. It's almost like trail braking with the accelerator.
    Also I found in this TT, if you run without TC, if you can keep the car straight, revving the tits off the car with wheelspin is just as fast, if not faster out of turn 2 than running tc

    Since the new physics I now use TCS at 2 with low ABS (for FR MR or RR cars), at least during my learning of new physics . It does suit me very well. As I think if we get the good apex, tcs doesn’t activate , I think I loose not much time. The only time lost I saw on Suzuka this week is the left long turn after the S portion of 1st sector . You should have tried TCS2, because I feel TCS1 does not prevent all wheel spin, and TCS3 activitates even with a good apex. TCS2 seems to make a better insurance against oversteer , and is not invading with good curbs. Sry for my English if I am not understandable

    Doesn't letting the tires break loose slow you down to though, I mean I understand this area still isn't realistic in GT but spinning the tires the car still isn't putting the power down

    • @tidgney
      @tidgney  6 місяців тому

      It's a good point, but what you find is on acceleration if the tyres spin up even briefly it could put the car in the higher part of the power band and GT is a bit weird with its power band and acceleration which can make it a bit quicker.
