Great tips, Leonie. I hated those low-rise pants we were forced to wear for 20 years. Not only did they make my belly pop over the top, but because I’m long-waisted, my BARE belly showed, too. I just never wore pants until high-waisted came back, they’re so much more flattering. You’re the best, keep the good stuff coming!

I LOVE this video! I appreciate how you show the different styles on all the different body types. As an apple body, everyone preaches the wrap dress to me but I hate it. I have a large chest and I feel so exposed in a wrap dress. Your advice really makes a lot of sense to me!
This is one of the best, most insightful styling videos I’ve ever watched! I’m young and carry weight around stomach but also have a very high and short waist. Your tips are brilliant and very insightful! Love this video. 👍 Thank you!!
High waist indeed! I rediscovered high waist and not only it hides the tummy, it elongates the legs. Bonus. The sleeve tip I had never heard of. That's smart. Thanks Leonie 😉
Thanks for this. I thought I was the only person who thinks Empire line makes us look pregnant, I've seen that suggested by so many people, and it made no sense to me. Great suggestions!
Finally someone who sees how dreadful the empire look is on full figured women. Also those tops with the little skirts at the bottom make you look larger too.
These tips are truly genius Leonie. I have aways been thin until menopause and I now have a muffin top and can not wear what I use to. You have helped me immensely, thank you. xo, Cowgirl Deb

Thank you Lynn and I’m sorry to hear you’re depressed. I really do hope you can find something to smile about again real soon. Sending lots of love your way 😘
I love the advice about not ruling out shopping at plus size. In recent months, I've been really trying to find the perfect pair of jeans that I can tuck my shirt in and not be concious of my tummy. The current pair of jeans that I love has a stretchy waist band and so do maternity pants. Looking through Target maternity pants reviews, other nonpreggo ladies were buying maternity pants and love it! Never rule out some really good options!
My mom used to make clothes for my dad’s mom because grandma couldn’t find clothes that fit. Mom would never let grandma see the patterns because she used maternity sewing patterns.
@@kathygann1180 That's a great story! 😃 In the same vein of family stories, my mom had a big tummy, but killer legs (and wasn't fat overall). I inherited the same apple shape. Sigh. I sure wish I knew how to sew - I'd make my own clothes!
"regular-sized" you have got to be kidding. My God they were obese. Let's stop trying to normalize obese people. There is a pandemic of horrible overweight people. It's NOT healthy.
I so agree with your comment about posture. I have found by taking notice of my posture when passing by a reflective surface (mirror, window, etc.), reminds me to adjust my posture. This not only improves the way my close hang, but improves my attitude and mood as well.
Great advice! All of it. So good to see sensible, realistic advice for the tummied girls. I'm a NZ size 22/24 and have been for years so I think I've really developed the knack of dressing for my shape. Most advice you hear is rubbish, like the classic "go for empire styles" and "avoid prints". There is always an exception that disproves the rule and that would probably be my top tip - dont follow "the rules" but rather notice what actually enhances you, what makes you smile, do you feel confident, which colours make you glow? For myself my top tip is to be a bit 'quirky' not like Mimi from The Drew Carey show! But as a teenager I loved the whole punk vibe and as I've gotten older I've gravitated back to that type of look, but obviously updated and "age appropriate". For example I wear a lot of black and darker colours and I love my white Dr Marten shoes. I think this gives me a point of difference in todays Instagram culture where everyone tries so hard to conform to the latest trends. I dont buy Fast Fashion which has awful synthetic fabrics and the way they just size up a standard size pattern so that you end up with arm holes that gape and sleeves down to your knees doesnt flatter anyone! I buy local NZ designers like Euphoria and Lost And Led Astray so the fabrics are good quality, natural fibres and the patterns and styles are literally designed for the chubby Kiwi gal. It's all about less is more for me and I no longer buy an item of clothing unless I truly LOVE it.
Great advice , I also think that fit around the shoulder and neckline in super important . If the shoulder isn’t well fitted the garment can look saggy and baggy ,not a good look . Sometimes shoulder pads can help with this especially if you have sloping shoulders .
Thank you for your comments on the wrap dress, I agree, I've noticed that most all wrap dress I've seen is well clingy. Love the various models and your sense of reality. Thank you!
Half tuck is the best thing they come up with, I do it with skits, jeans, and trousers. Now I really love the new voluminous dresses, now you have to be careful, usually looks best when your thinner. Yes, I used to think hanging a long scarf down in front would elongate me, and was frustrated that it never did. Now I realize that the scarf ENDS at the waist - just the area I don't want to emphasize! Thanks Leonie.

Hi Leonie, thank you for such a refreshing and honest video. I'm sure a lot of us are in need of this advice right now, I know I definitely am! As I can't replace the bulk of my clothes, and I'm actively trying to lose a few pounds now, this advice is invaluable. I can see where I've been going wrong now! Thank you, as always. Stay safe, Izzy
I have always been an apple shape, even losing 90 pounds my middle is still the biggest part of my body. These are great suggestions and the examples were very helpful.
@@susanbarlow4841 I started keto in January 2017. No products, drinks, or fake foods, strictly meat, vegetables, and dairy. The key was getting me off the sugar and carbs. I’m still down between 80 and 90 pounds but it does get harder to keep the weight off the older I get. Once I lost I had to learn how to dress my new body since I had been heavy for most of my entire adult life. I wanted to be more stylish.
I’m sorry but most of your suggestions, which I think are really smart, only work if you have a flat behind. When you have a big behind like I do, kimonos and big shirts get stuck on it! Your styling is great and I love that you did this!
Exceptional. This video was awesome. She really did educate us about facts the average person does not know. Great tip about vertical stripes and fabulous accessories.
Great tips as always! The A line dress has always been a problem for me , with or without a belly. I am very top heavy compared to the rest of my body and because of that any oversize anything without any closeness/skimming the middle section is going to make me look bigger. Sheath dresses can work but I do have to size up for the girls. I do like wearing men's shirt at the moment since with the plague has come the plague of weight gain. Thanks for sharing and blessing to you and all in the days to come.
Thanks Denise and yes sheath dresses for you would need to have a slightly lower neckline to be the most flattering but I'm sure you already know that - thanks for sharing :)
A little confused as I follow Erin and a few others. I’m carrying extra weight since lockdown and I gave up smoking end of January so a UK size 14. They suggest adding belts, wearing t’s or shirts, half tuck etc but definitely suggest wearing belts no matter how large can give you shape. Otherwise I really have enjoyed your last two videos and am interested in your take on things. X
Hi Leonie, thanks for the tips. It's summer here, and I have a collection of short sleeve swing dresses in light materials. They skim the body and keep me cool when it's hot enough to cook an egg on the pavement.
Thank you for your practical advice. I am 5'1 so I never thought about checking out the plus size fashion. I'd been checking out maternity wear and get depressed about it.
I so appreciated this video. I have put on 8 lbs. right in my mid-section. I took 6 pairs of pants & jeans to the tailor to let out two inches on the waistbands because I have no intention of putting on any more. Emotional eating.....and it has to stop now. Stay well.
Awesome tips, love the small print information so easy to change it up. Amelia Coks comment gave me tingles, what a lovely community following so glad I found you
I love your advice and your videos, keep them coming girl 👍🏽 I did the half tuck today then came home and just watched your video. Great minds think alike 😉
Hi. Hello. Howdy. If the fabric will have a tendency to shrink some then I often will buy a size bigger so the garment will not be too tight. Thank you for sharing.
I've just found your video, and the hints and tips you've given are amazing. Having had major abdominal surgery a few years ago I've lost all muscle strength around my stomach area, and even an abdominal binder doesn't do much. In hot weather it's so uncomfortable. So I joined the ranks of the baggy tee shirt brigade which although helps a bit, it doesn't do much if I want to get frocked up for an evening out, or meet friends for lunch. I love the half tucked in look, the layered look and the A line shift dresses. So thank you very much, from the U.K. 🇬🇧
This sounds really odd, but I wear Spanx all the time and I don't even need them! I just love them; it's like a 'comfort thing' that I am just used to. They just make me feel better...that simple! Changing the topic completely: was that a black bra you were wearing underneath your sheer top or was it a camisole Leonie? Would you mind sharing...it looks divine!
Wow that's so interesting JayJay and I definitely understand what you mean (not that I have ever worn them) but I do get it. I was wearing a camisole under my black dress but it did just look like a bra now I look at it again. Thanks so much for watching and always commenting JayJay - I really appreciate it :)
Agreed with the tops and dresses that make you look pregnant. I am a pear shape but I've had 4 babies and that has left me with a bigger tummy, trying to figure out how to hide it!
Forgot to say: I found the perfect dresses at Old Navy this summer, they are cool, breathable rayon knit, and shaped to show the waist more than a shift dress, but are not too fitted either, lime many fit-and-flares are. They are great for comfort on my thick-waisted figure, but still show one’s feminine shape and look better than a shift or swing dress.
This was truly comprehensive - great work! Yes, I decided long ago that empire waisted styles looked like maternity wear on me.😜 Save it for the mamas to be!
Thank you so much for this wonderful video! It's so informative and you thought of everyone and you showed us regular women!! YAAAAYY! TFS. Oh, I hit that bell to make sure I don't miss any videos!!🥰🥰

This is my first time on your video. I really like what you are saying. You speak so much sense. I very much look forward to your next video! Thank you.
Love love this video thank you so much for all the info. I am trying to bring my tummy down. Also when it comes to undergarments do you have a brand in mind? Thank you so much🤗
Great video, Leonie! I so agree with you on the maternity looks and the shapewear. I have a very big tummy and the half tuck doesn't work for me at all. Just today I for the first time knotted an oversized t-shirt sideways and was very happy with the outcome. It looked like a half tuck light and was very comfortable as well.
5:00 While once wearing an empire line dress on the tube in London, a young guy kindly offered me his seat. "Chivalry isn't dead!" I thought, until it hit me that he must've assumed I was pregnant...
It happened to me on a bus too and once I was putting away some heavy shopping in the car when a little old lady admonished me saying I shouldn't be lugging around anything heavy 'in my condition'. Very disheartening, I know. But I looked at the bright side of it - at least she thought I was of child-bearing age when I am definitely way past. So there was that, at least.
Finally someone who doesn’t say that wrap dresses hide the tummy! I keep seeing this info everywhere and it just isn’t true. They emphasize your waist but you turn sideways and you see your tummy protruding. Thanks for the great tips!

I’m still down between 80 and 90 pounds but it does get harder to keep the weight off the older I get. Once I lost I had to learn how to dress my new body since I had been heavy for most of my entire adult life. I wanted to be more stylish.
We need to come out of lock down with this kind of kindness
I’m sorry but most of your suggestions, which I think are really smart, only work if you have a flat behind. When you have a big behind like I do, kimonos and big shirts get stuck on it! Your styling is great and I love that you did this!
Excellent presentation, really enjoyed it and gave me great tips. Thanks very much💐😀
Exceptional.
Oh they sound perfect and wow that does sound hot - especially for me at the moment as it's mid Winter here :(
Sleeve length matters!? Wow thank you for these helpful tips :)
You bet!
Brilliant, sensitive, not offensive, practical, thank you ! Subscribing
Awesome, thank you!
Your models and outfits were beautiful. Also, your suggestions on styling were spot on. Thanks
Thank you so much!
Stay well.
I think most of us can relate at the moment :(
Can they let out waistbands? How is that possible?
Anthropology has plus size fashionable clothes! You can order online and return if possible
I feel so relaxed watching your video because you are really helping with your attitude. I love the tips, not yet used to the half tuck 🌟
😊
This is one of the best videos I’ve watched on flattering your figure! I tend to go big & frumpy so this has been super insightful!♥️
That's great to hear - so glad you found this video helpful.
The short jacket over a hemtail top is genius. Best of both garments' benefits.
Here, here sister for high waist. Who knew they are AMAZING? Well done!
I know right? They are so good :)
So true about the wrap dresses! I used to love them but now with my muffin top I find it too figure hugging
Yes that's def what happens :(
Awesome tips, love the small print information so easy to change it up. Amelia Coks comment gave me tingles, what a lovely community following so glad I found you
Thanks so much Jess 😃
I love your advice and your videos, keep them coming girl 👍🏽 I did the half tuck today then came home and just watched your video. Great minds think alike 😉
Yay! Great minds do think alike :)
No wonder my tiny-print shift dress makes me feel lovely. I love all your tips. Yes to NO wrap dress and empire tops :)
Lovely to see your brilliant videos again, thank you for showing cute and curvy girls instead of mainly thin girls, please add more .x
Thank you! Will do!
Thank you! Finally tips that are realistic and practical.
So glad I found your video! Thanks for sharing and I agree with everything you said.
Hi. Hello. Howdy. If the fabric will have a tendency to shrink some then I often will buy a size bigger so the garment will not be too tight. Thank you for sharing.
That's a great idea!
I love the longer top with tight pants like the layering thanks
Me too!!
Best insightful styling vedio...Thank you so much for the practical tips
Yay! Thanks for watching :)
"Stand up and be proud" Love that
Forgot to say: I found the perfect dresses at Old Navy this summer, they are cool, breathable rayon knit, and shaped to show the waist more than a shift dress, but are not too fitted either, lime many fit-and-flares are. They are great for comfort on my thick-waisted figure, but still show one’s feminine shape and look better than a shift or swing dress.
Oh this dress sounds fabulous :)
I agree! Just found great dresses there!
This was truly comprehensive - great work! Yes, I decided long ago that empire waisted styles looked like maternity wear on me.😜 Save it for the mamas to be!
Wish I could like this video more than once. Thank you. Great ideas and illustrations
Wow, thank you!
Thank you so much for this wonderful video! It's so informative and you thought of everyone and you showed us regular women!! YAAAAYY! TFS. Oh, I hit that bell to make sure I don't miss any videos!!🥰🥰
Thanks so much Liz and I'm pleased you enjoyed this one :)
I have watched many youtube posts on how to dress and fashion mistakes but have not enjoyed any as much as I have watching this video. So appropiate for the real world.
This was perfect timing for my new postpartum body❣️🌟😊
So glad!
I was just thinking how thin you looked when you said you’d gained weight.😂💖
I do look thin in the face in this video for some reason - not so much around my middle lol 🤦🏻♀️😂
The Style Insider I’ve started doing Chloe Ting You tube exercises because I’m growing a COVID belly since I’m stuck working from home.😂
Thank you so much for this advice. Im going to try the half tuck and see how i get on. Also, if you have any tips for tall dressing i would love to hear them, im 6ft tall and slim, apart from my tummy!
Hi Jane I'm almost six foot tall too so I can definitely create a styling video for us tall gals :)
Please and thank you.
Excellent suggestions. I heard a few of them before your video. However, so much for the ideas they were great!
Glad you like them 👏🏼
Thank you so much for this video. Sometimes I feel like we are forgotten.
Lots of great tips here. Thank you!
Glad you found them helpful Cynthia :)
This is my first time on your video. I really like what you are saying. You speak so much sense. I very much look forward to your next video! Thank you.
That’s great to hear - thx Gaynor 👍🏼
Great advice and just enjoyable to listen to. Keep up the good work!
Aww thanks so much Shelly :)
Love love this video thank you so much for all the info. I am trying to bring my tummy down. Also when it comes to undergarments do you have a brand in mind? Thank you so much🤗
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you! You are incredible! I love your teachings!🥰
So glad!
Thanks love! This is legit advice. I fancy my new buys especially the high waist boyfriend jeans
Best one I’ve seen on this issue. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it Jo Ann 😊
The tip about the sleeve length is excellent!
Love your tips Leonie they've always worked for me.
That’s great to hear Judy 🤩
Very insightful information. However since we were talking about tummy and midsection the thin models were a little disheartening.
Sorry, unpopular old fogey opinion here, but I think half tucks don’t do anything for anyone. The half tuck just looks sloppy.
Great video showing real size models. Thank you.
☘️🌝🌲
Thank you :)
These techniques are great! I usually choose a freshman size outfit and show my advantage curve.
Oh that's great news - thanks for sharing :)
I love these practical tp[s. One of the best set of advice re hiding the tummy
Yes! Empire waist with a big tummy = maternity look.
Oh I think it does very much depend on the individual but I hear you :)
I am so HAPPY for your amazing advice. I stumbled into your videos, they are so helpful. Great work.
I don’t think I’ve ever grown out of my maternity style dressing, my girls are 18 and almost 22! 🤣
Me too!
Makes perfect sense to me :)
Hhh that’s really sweet hhh
5:00 While once wearing an empire line dress on the tube in London, a young guy kindly offered me his seat. "Chivalry isn't dead!" I thought, until it hit me that he must've assumed I was pregnant...
Oh gosh!
Well, how nice he showed such consideration, even if for the wrong reason!
I saw a high school friend I hadn’t seen in years and she congratulated me and asked when I was due. I NEVER wore that beautiful wool sweater again!
