I'm always amazed that tipsters like yourself use pencil thin models when discussing overweight issues. These young girls don't have a tummy or anything else to hide.
Finally, an expert who agrees that "tucking in" isn't always the best solution. You have offered some really good advice and we appreciate you doing so.
Yes! What a relief to hear sensible ways to de emphasize the big tummy. You are boldly brave to swim against the current of belts, tucking etc. Thank you so much!
I can't tell you how much I enjoyed these very useful tips on how to deal with problem areas. Plus you didn't discuss the horrible half tuck which has been talked to death.❤❤🎉
Thank you for this video. This is such good, practical advice. There are other UA-camrs who insist that everyone should always tuck in. I couldn't disagree with that more. Your suggestions are a lot more flattering and realistic.
Love your videos, Deirdre…so classy and stylish for those of us over 50. You always show realistic clothes that aren’t outrageously expensive and don’t involve 3-4” heels. Absolutely love your channel!
Thank you for some great tips. At 70 my tummy is an issue but I want to look up to date and would like to feel confident. Love your blue and white striped shirt!
my absolute favorite you tuber. No politics no opinionated rubbish just real help in making us make t he best of ourselves. And your friendly warm manner is a real plus. xx
Love your coastal granny blue and white. I just bought one myself and love it. I have the menopause middle for the first time. But I’m so happy with my life right now, couldn’t care less.
All good tips and I especially love the last one. My strategy has always been to gloss over the flabby bits with well-structured, well' fitting basics. So worth the investment in a good tailor. Then make sure the best bits are in tip top condition, such as great hair, pedicure, etc. Love your content and most of all your attitude, dear Deirdre. It is such a privilege to get older.
Good strategy. I have tried shapewear but I live in a hot climate and it makes me feel hot. It might be ok for an indoor event in the cooler months, but I find styles that help without it.
Another great video, and really great practical tips. I’ve never tried a slightly longer top under a shorter jacket, but I will on date night this weekend.. thank you Deirdre 😊
Love this video. Funny enough, I have a large tummy and wear a lot of sheath dresses. As long as they aren't tight, they somehow manage to help make the belly appear more flat. I also wear a blazer over the sheath dress.
I agree with you also...a "tummy" is relative to only what we know. Especially someone whose weight fluctuates. Someone who has lost a good bit of weight may be ready to show off a slimmer body, and her circle of friends might see her that way too. Size or weight may affect different parts of the body. I have a large bust and a slim waist and when I gain weight it's usually in my hips. Some tips don't work for me when my "hourglass" shape is out of proportion. I can wear a half tuck because it flatters from the front. but covers from the back. I win!
The bigger the tummy, the more important it is for ‘our girls’ to be high! You’d be amazed how a good supporting bra can completely draw the eye up from the belly. Dark first layers can minimize, too, with a long colored top and a popped collar to finish. About shift dresses for summer - I love Tommy Bahama for comfortable high quality, upbeat prints, and beautiful colors - often with pockets!
Loved how you voiced against the current trends. Trends of shirt tucking and belts section up my body making me look like a snowman or emphasize my belly as if I were pregnant. The greater choice is something that gives me a smooth line and curvy silhouette. I personally love things that taper in on my sides, have decorative stiching or ruching on the front, and flows longer in the back. 🙂
Thank you. I’m glad I found you. I’m 53 and ever since my hysterectomy I put 20 pounds on right in my midsection. I’m dieting and have to kick up my workout. Thanks for sharing this. ❤
I have been looking for a video like this for awhile. First time watcher. I’m a rectangle shape and I’ve struggled with clothes for awhile. I’m 65 and I love to sew but this idea of tucking in a shirt just a little is such a big trend and is one that many stylists say I should b doing. It seems everyone has a different opinion how to style clothes for a rectangle shape. Also I love wrap skirts or a more A line skirt. What shirt do you wear? Should it b tucked or not. So confusing I want to b stylish but not old looking. Your dress options are spot on they look great on me. Thanks for any advice you can give me
Hi Deidre I’m 65 and a first time viewer. I absolutely loved your video so full of useful tips and tricks and I loved the way you presented it. I’m looking forward to catching up on your previous videos. Thank you xx
04/19/24. I do wear a belt sometimes with pants but having an over shirt or jacket cuts the picture of that horizontal line at my waist. That is the vertical opening, then the belt is the surprise element! A narrow belt is best for me. I am 5’2” tall and age 75 at end of April. I just purchased a sheath black dress and I am rectangular in shape. Not much waistline. This is for a summer wedding I am attending. Love the peplum tops and just purchased a ruch-style top this week. I am almost finished buying my summer clothing items except to update shoes and get 2 new handbags from Dooney and Bourke. I like the ‘dog leather leash’ in these satchel handbags to hook on keys. Great tips and I am enjoying your videos!

Wonderful video and techniques for hiding the tummy. This is my first time seeing your videos and I'm really impressed that you show different body tops so we can all be included in your suggestions. ✨New subscriber after seeing this video on “how to hide a tummy” and needing fashion advice to do just that. Recent hysterectomy and body changes have me embracing new style techniques. Thanks for sharing very practical and classic style advice 👍🏼 ✅My favorite technique for de-emphasizing a tummy is drapeing a 3rd layer such as a classic oversized button down or jacket over the shoulders 🦋
Deirdre another fabulous video. You show us how to to look classy without breaking the bank. I hope you and Scott have a blessed Easter. It’s Good Friday but Sunday is coming. Hallelujah Blessings Hugs Love Victoria ❤️❤️
Hi Deirdre, I think you’re just awesome! I am almost 66 years old and I always appreciate your styling tips especially the ones about hiding your tummy :-) if it’s some point and maybe you’ve already done it can you do a fall travel capsule for a two week trip to Europe?
Hello, I pray your health is continuing to do well. I found your channel only a month or so ago and love your ideas! I watch each episode and review my wardrobe looking for items that fit your helpful hints! I cant believe how many items I already have that will help me look MORE fabulous!😊 for those that I dont have it gives me a goal when shopping.❤ Thank you!
I don’t know where to find white tapered dress pants. I have white leggings but it’s not the refined look I want. I noticed you wearing white tapered looking pants or dress pants in this video. Could you suggest where I can look to find a good quality dress pant? Also, for the summer, I would like a pattern dress (between the knee and ankle length) but in a soft flowing fabric like chiffon. I am between a petite large and a petite medium size and I just don’t know where to begin looking. You are just what most woman are looking for, someone who knows how to dress and with style. I am so happy that I found you. I did know a lot of the things you spoke about in this video but not quite as much as you know. I love learning something new everyday!
I also love beach coverups and wear them a lot in the summer with a pair of white jeans. I feel so glam! I imagine that lovely striped coverup came from a beachside shop in Greece? I didn't see a link for it and it is so fab.
Thank you for the info. My real problem area is I am short with a short waist. If I wear high rise clothing it doesn’t look right with my short waist. I used to be able to wear anything…prior to menopause. Right now I live in leggings with a top over it and blazer.
I just came across your channel, good advice. I am 5’1’ and often have a hard time getting clothes to fit properly especially pants, also I have small shoulders and flare out in the hip area.
Hello from New Zealand, I am a 56yr old woman (the real thing lol) I have just started tonight watching these sorts of video's. I'm a pretty strong, not shy woman who looks very similar to you :) I have crazy, now white grey to darker at the back ringlet curly hair that I straighten generally, because to dry it makes it frizzy, not into that look. We look to have about the same body shape and size so you are perfect for me :) The funny thing, yours was the 3rd vid I watched after 2 that didn't resonate with me at all. I found myself laughing hysterically at certain points and it was so refreshing and enjoyable that I watched it twice. People have told me over the years "you scrub up well" hahaa I have always been modest and its like I have grown into beauty as time has gone on. Have never been a big makeup person except for a bit of lippy as my grandmother use to say :) Anyway, I have sub you, my very first ever "fashion" type channel. I love the way you deliver this content, no ads even better (i have an ad blocker anyway, IT was my thing) Off to see what else I can watch x
Hi lovely ladies, I hope you are doing well. I'd love for you to share below what your own tips and tricks are for hiding a tummy. What are your favourite techniques that you find work well? Lots of love to you all. Deirdre. XX
Tunic tops with tight leggings also work like a charm.
❤
Any top or dress that skims my body and is not too short
High rise jeans, leggings, panties it helps smooth the middle section.

Great ideas, but why not use models who actually have a belly?
The style tip is so brilliant that these models are hiding their bellies........🙂
Because it's harder to make ppl look as good as they do w/o it - dammit!

Yes, I don't know if it's just me but tucking just gives me double big belly: above and below
😂😂😂😂
It’s as if - I have a fat belly, here it is, take a good luck. I’ve never done it as I can’t see how it can hide it.
Half tucks are the most idiotic thing ever to happen to fashion. And I lived through the 90’s.
I'm always amazed that tipsters like yourself use pencil thin models when discussing overweight issues. These young girls don't have a tummy or anything else to hide.
I came just to say the same thing
Some of the models look like they need a good meal
I didn't see a model that had a tummy to hide!
It would definitely be more realistic if models had the actual body builds being discussed. 😅
Please use models representing a problem with a tummy. Not cool to use pencil stick models. Is that ur way of being covertly sarcastic???
Great ideas but it would be nice to see all models that actually did have bulk near the tummy area.
I'm totally with you, Sheila. It's actually hard to find models that have tummies. I have tried to include as many as I could. XX
@@50FabulouswithMyFriendDeirdre thanks for trying.

Hi S Kimsey. Thank you for your lovely comments. XX
Dear Deirdre,
Thank you for another fantastic video full of useful tips and ideas ❤
I loved your yellow and black long kimono cover up on you!
Hi I like how you just get right into the subject straight away Thank You
Love your tips. I'll save the video for Spring.... we're moving into winter in my corner of the world. Beso from Argentina ❤
Thank you, really loved your quidelines. Learnt a few good tips.
Glad it was helpful! XX
Love Love Love my Tieks!!! Love the pinks for sure
I also love beach coverups and wear them a lot in the summer with a pair of white jeans. I feel so glam! I imagine that lovely striped coverup came from a beachside shop in Greece? I didn't see a link for it and it is so fab.
That’s my favorite thing in the video as well!!
Thank you for the info. My real problem area is I am short with a short waist. If I wear high rise clothing it doesn’t look right with my short waist. I used to be able to wear anything…prior to menopause. Right now I live in leggings with a top over it and blazer.
Thank you for all the tips. Your blouse very crisp & becoming.
I really enjoyed this video and got some new ideas as the thermometer soared to 80f today in Washington,DC
I just came across your channel, good advice. I am 5’1’ and often have a hard time getting clothes to fit properly especially pants, also I have small shoulders and flare out in the hip area.
I need it that!! Great tips to follow asap!! Thank you !!!
Thank you for caring and coming up with good sense ideas. You're a blesding!!
You are an inspiration! We all need to be reminded and taught. Thanks.
I really appreciate that! Thank you so much. XX
One important style I feel you missed is the Nehru tunic cut - as jacket, vest-length or even coat. The style is an absolute winner and disguise 😊
Hi there. Yes, I agree, that’s a good style but this video was more focusing on lighter garments for spring and summer. Xx
I LOVE the black and white polka dot dress!!!! Please advise me how to purchase it!!!
Hooray for 50+ ❤ Trendy Beautiful and stylish ❤
Kimono number 1 looked great on you
Hello from New Zealand, I am a 56yr old woman (the real thing lol) I have just started tonight watching these sorts of video's. I'm a pretty strong, not shy woman who looks very similar to you :) I have crazy, now white grey to darker at the back ringlet curly hair that I straighten generally, because to dry it makes it frizzy, not into that look. We look to have about the same body shape and size so you are perfect for me :)
The funny thing, yours was the 3rd vid I watched after 2 that didn't resonate with me at all. I found myself laughing hysterically at certain points and it was so refreshing and enjoyable that I watched it twice. People have told me over the years "you scrub up well" hahaa I have always been modest and its like I have grown into beauty as time has gone on. Have never been a big makeup person except for a bit of lippy as my grandmother use to say :)
Anyway, I have sub you, my very first ever "fashion" type channel. I love the way you deliver this content, no ads even better (i have an ad blocker anyway, IT was my thing) Off to see what else I can watch x
Thank you so much for your sweet comments and a big welcome to my channel. Lots of love to you and all those in New Zealand. XX
I wish I knew where to get some of those coverups and dresses!! Some I just love!!
