      Thanks Erik! I was looking forward to a weekend in the Driftless, but alas, Covid messed that up! Next year hopefully!

    Hey Andrew, whenever you’re feeling up for it would be awesome to see the Pool Toy! Love all your flies, keep up the good work!!

      hey there! I'll make sure to add that to my to-do list. I never did a video for that one as it's kind of one of my older and less exciting flies.

      @@andrewgrillosflyfishingfly1517 right on I appreciate it!! Not sure I’d agree it’s less exciting… any hopper pattern is a blast. It fishes great and have been wanting to learn how it’s done and try my hand at a few. Cheers!!

    New to viewing your ties, first of your videos I saw was the Hippie Stomper, great tie. I've subscribed and will be watching more and will be tying some for this summer in Montana.

      @@andrewgrillosflyfishingfly1517 My only question is on the smaller flies do you use the 2 mm foam? or is it the 1 mm or razor foam?

    • @andrewgrillosflyfishingfly1517
      @andrewgrillosflyfishingfly1517  4 роки тому +1

      Oh I wasn't clear about that. On larger ones, size 10-12 I use 2mm. Sizes 14-20 I use 1mm. Sorry for the confusion!

    Thanks for the great video! Any chance you’d do a video on the Captain Crunch fly that Montana Angler featured in the piece on Trout Spey flies?

    Andrew, thank you for the excellent video. I note that you use 2mm for for the overbody for a size 12 hook. In the Aug-Sept, 2018 Fly Fisherman Charlie Craven suggests 1mm foam. I've tried it both ways. Naturally the 1mm foam gives a slimmer profile. How do you feel about this? Keep the tutorials coming.

    Excellent tutorial, Andrew! Good to see all the support lately. Can I ask what specific rubber legs you’re using? All the best.

      I’ve been using Montana Fly Company centipede legs (size small & medium) when tying Andrew’s patterns. It sure looks like that’s what he’s using.

      @@Snackalacka Thank you. That’s one leg product I bought. However, with the legs already separated/split (MFC product) I thought it must be a different one.

    Love your flies man! Which rod you packin in that old 2 piece Scott tube? I remember going down to Scott in SFO back in the day to pick rods up and have a couple of this tubes to show for it.

      I have a few classic Scotts, including 2 that Harry Wilson built in 1974, a 10' 7wt, from the late 70's, and a couple G's from the 80's. I love my Scotts! :-)

    Quick question - when you indicate that the fly can be tied in other colors, should one match the tails, rear tail splitting ball of dub and the rest of the fly, including dub, thread etc with the foam? Thanks, great fly in the original black body version that you demonstrated - very productive here in the Black Hills of South Dakota.

    On the smaller versions (16-20) do you still do the two captures on the foam or just x wrap from the back all the way to the eye and then back track for the dubbing, hackle, wing, etc? I'm having trouble getting all this stuff onto the smaller hooks. Any other modifications?

    • @andrewgrillosflyfishingfly1517
      @andrewgrillosflyfishingfly1517  2 роки тому

      Hi there DrRHThorndyke! You've got it figured out, remember that less is more when scaling the fly down. The only modification I like is to use a wing of hot pink and gray for a high viz option

    Hello Andrew. Excellently narrated. I wanted to ask you, when you tie the attractor colors (i.e. red, purple, lime green etc do you always use black foam? You also mentioned that you tie PMD and BWO patterns. I would like to know what color foam you use as well as abdomen and thorax dubbing. Lastly, do you ever change the leg color and are the tails always light dun?

    • @andrewg658
      @andrewg658 3 роки тому

      Hi there! I like the contrast of the black over body against the bright color of the dubbed body, however please feel free to change the over body color as you see fit. Further, I like the look of he black and white barred legs, so I don't bother with changing them.

      If I could piggy back on Fly Tyer's questions, would it be overkill to use the ice dubbing all the way down the shank? Too much sparkle?

    • @andrewgrillosflyfishingfly1517
      @andrewgrillosflyfishingfly1517  2 роки тому

      hi Michael, i prefer superfine dubbing because the ice dub would soak up too much water, effectively sinking the fly. also, I don't think too much sparkle is a problem
