Miklo wanted so bad to be seen for who he was on the inside instead of his white skin and blue eyes. He found that acceptance behind bars and did what he needed to keep it.
Paco evolved so deeply in this film. And Cruz ended up an addict to deal with his back injury and ended up continuing his habit to numb his pain after he was overwhelmed with guilt about Juanito’s death.
Amazing movie and it’ll forever hit me in my soul. Even as a Black woman I felt this film from the first watch ❤

Probably my favorite movie. It has everything in it. Ive literally watched this probably 500+ times. Its timeless. The biggest crime is that they never made a sequel.
For real. I know this movie word for word
I have not seen it as many times for sure, but I knew it was a classic first time I saw it over 20 years ago. I dont even consider it a movie movie, its on a different level artistically, very crude and real. Not the typical "gang movie" or action or whichever. As much as everyone likes to say it, this one is honestly true; they don't make movies like that anymore. But then again, I haven't seen many since or before. Like a mix of Menace to society and Godfather. The gang life and all of that as well as the continuity and longevity of Godfather in the sense that you get to see them evolve, change and become someone else. A complete life, not a glimpse or a glance of a week or 2 years. The length as well. It is pretty much a gangster epic; i probably came up with the term now so definitely a unique movie!!

Paco did influence Miklo, but when Miklo got out he was a grown man who made his own decisions. During the heist, Paco told him to give him the gun and that he would help him out, but Miklo ran.
Also: This movie never fails to make me bawl like a baby.
True, would be very dumb to still live in paco's shadow. But then again he didn't know he changed and went to marines until he got out. Makes me wander, why didn't Paco visit Miklo in the first place.

PACO CONSTANTLY gave Miklo shit for being white, not being "Chicano" enough ! All Miklo wanted was to be accepted by his Latino side of his family. PACO built Miklo up, got him shot & locked up , then SHOT MIKLO
& tried to them him into a rat!!😅 PACO is BUSTER! That being said I LIVE THE CHARACTERS IN THIS FILM and Bemjamin Bratt killed it as Paco,. Just saying the character should have let Miklo go instead of SHOOTING HIM IN THE BACK!

This movie was a huge part of my childhood. As a Hispanic boy from a bunch people who came to this country as immigrants this taught me not to follow some of my cousins into gangs.
I watched it all the time when I was like 5 years old.

This movie came out when I was still in high school. I’m 50 now. My friend won two tickets to the premiere along with two posters with the original movie title “Bound By Honor” It’s still as good now as the first time I saw it.
The original title was blood in blood out the M made them change that.

This was my platoon's favorite movie when I was in the army. I'm from LA (818), and one of my best friends was a Mexican from East Los. It was only a couple years after the movie came out. He showed it to me, and we showed it to everybody in small groups. Within a few weeks, everybody in my platoon, most of whom were white, were quoting dialog from the movie and calling each other "ese" and "carnal." I miss those days...

they did such a good job of catching a tortured artist. Cruz is listening to abstract jazz, his paintings are dark and depressing, he looks so defeated when he turns around. The scene between Cruz and Paco screaming at each other is one of the best scenes ever made so much pain coming from Cruz.

Man such a classic and memorable movie to the Mexican American community growing up. Must have watched this 100 times over the summers with my bros and cousins, great reaction my guy loved the reaction. I also have to add American Me is definitely a must watch and is based on basically the same story. Both are inspired by the true story.

Yo. This the story of chicanos. Mexicans have their own thing inside. It is hard for people who don't know or didnt come out of east los or other Chicano areas to understand the Chicano story.
Leo is killing it with these movie reactions. He's over here having hella fun and I love it lol. Big ups on watching this flick, it's a whole classic to so many people.
It's so interesting how Miklos and Paco start the movie as complete opposites and take over eachothers roles, Paco becomes an officer and Miklos turns into the delinquent.
I notice Miklos was always trying to fit in somewhere. Paco always had that alpha male / older brother type of attitude. And their other brother seemed to have an addictive type personality, which probably was probably a positive factor in his determination in his craft of art, but the negative side was that he got into drugs too.
This movie is hands down the best movie for memorable lines, the most lines period! It's littered with so many in almost all the scenes and after I watch it, I just zone in on my favorites and just repeat them like a parrot. I'm 100% I'm not alone on this one!
When I was younger, I found this movie late one night on HBO. I starting watching it and got into the story. Not knowing this movie was 3 hours long. The time flies because the story and acting is so good. My favorite line is " Know what I mean Jelly bean!".

I remember watching this movie on pay-per-view when I was growing up. My best friend's parents at the time had a black box and all the pay-per-view was unscrambled and I used to watch this movie over and over again
I've been requesting this for close to 2 years glad you finally watched this classic please watch "American Me" which is similar except they used real Gang names and the directors and actors lives were threatened over the making of the movie and story. Think of it as Boyz in the hood vs menace II society same kind of story but a bit different all great hood classics
Some people were more than threatened for American Me. There were actual murders in and out of California prisons over it. And an actual hit was put on the actor Edward James Olmos. Danny Trejo "Geronimo" (who was in prison. And was acquainted with the leader of the Mexican Mafia) from Blood in blood out. Goes into it on in an interview on Vlad TV.
I second this. American Me is next level because it’s based on that true story. The behind the scenes rumors are crazy.

The part of Cruz is played by Jesse Borrego. He is also a dancer and singer. He played the part of Jesse in the TV series Fame. I was use to seeing the dancing and singing side of him, so when this movie came out I was shocked by his portrayal of Cruz.

This movie is so special and close to so many people that I grew up with. Cruzitos performance is Oscar worthy and I stand by that. I hold this movie in a higher regard then GANGS OF NEW YORK. Although Daniel Lewis is a phenom , this movie is the complete package. A legit broadway should be made from this movie.

Man you just witnessed a timeless classic brotha. Whats crazy is in prison there was inly the few main actors the rest were real life san quentin inmates.
My boys and I watched this movie in the theaters back in the day. We played basketball after. I want in for a layup and my boy Alex blocked my shot and yelled “GIMME SOME CHON CHON!” I laughed we laughed so damn hard.
This movie had everyone in it. Ving Rhames, Benjamin Bratt, Delroy Lindo, Billy Bob Thorton, Danny Trejo, Richard Masur, Chuey is Tuco from Breaking Bad. Biff from Back to the Future. Even Wallace...used to be Earl the Postman in That's My Momma and a hustler in Good Times and What's Happenin. I saw Montana in the play Zoot Suit in Hollywood, playing opposite Edward James Olmos back in the 70's. Olmos went on to make American Me which is a bit more accurate and scarier story about the Mexican Mafia. They even murdered an advisor on the movie. It's a sad one.
You left out Valente aka ernie from the George lopez show.
Edward James Olmos screwed up being arrogant and wreckless and that got multiple people killed by offending the Mexican mafia by using the name.. This film created all 3 different names for real life gangs and it was that simple to avoid scrutiny.
They actually murdered 10 people from that film due to the incorrect portrayal of some La Eme members they took offence and acted on they're emotions as they aren't people who take theatrics of they're lives being portrayed as weak and wrong they had to take proactive measures in order to save face
So Gilbert at the art gallery paper was the one who did all the painting for the movie.

This movie changed my life. It was the first time I saw the world for what it was. It taught me that not everything is black and white, but confusing shades of grey. There is a little bit of Paco, Cruzito, and Miklo in all of us.

Such an unexpected and memorable story. The movie does a very bold move halfway through, turning Miklo from the main character to exposition for Cruz and Paco, and ends in a perfectly human way: The two of them mourning Miklo's foolishness, but okay because they have their own lives.
So basically “poor bastard, we pretty much fucked up miklo’s life, but we were only kids. O well! Come on let’s go home!”

I’ve seen that movie hundreds of times. Even now I watch it a few times a year. Now I have to watch it again after seeing this. Every Hispanic person I grew up with had seen it multiple times. It’s an amazing movie! Every time someone says they haven’t seen it I have to watch it with them.
This movie is like The Godfather in where you watch it over and over to always find the same lines spoken but you understand then better each time. 20-30 times I've watched this. Seeing you react to it gives a fresh perspective. You caught on to the story quick.

Hell Yeah! It is always great to see a big time reactor getting to a gem before others. I think people don't realize this film exists. Another classic I don't see getting reacted to is American Me (1992) and the Warriors (1979). Although this film is not about gangs, the film Bloodsport (1988) hasn't been reacted to that much. At least, not as much as I think it should.

Dope reaction to this classic film!!!! Most chicanos can relate to movie on so many levels. This film portrays how a lot of young chicanos really live and type of things they really deal with. This movie is so POWERFUL! I've watched it more than 20 times, and it has the same emotional impact on me every time i see it. A TRUE MASTERPIECE!
I'll be honest, usually I only watch you take on silly films, because you're often so goofy in your reactions. Idle Hands, Jackass, that kind of thing. But when I saw you'd done this film, I knew we were both in for a ride. This one hits hard.
One of the writers of this movie (and supposedly the largest influence on the final version), Jimmy Santiago Baca, was a respected Chicano poet who had done time in San Quentin, and a lot of what ended up in the movie is based on his own experiences. The director was a respected figure in film making, who had previously done An Officer and a Gentleman. The movie was filmed in part at San Quentin itself, using actual inmates as extras. There was some serious power there.
The three gangs in the prison, La Onda, the BGA, and the AV, are based on three real gangs, the Mexican Mafia, the Black Guerilla Army, and the Aryan Brotherhood.
A lot of people focus on the flaws of the movie, and there are flaws. But many more find something in it, and it's become a significant film to many in the Chicano community.
Back when it came out, I was the movie reviewer for my college newspaper in Fresno, CA. The producers wanted to preview the movie in Los Angeles, but they were worried about it because of some real-life events going on at that time, so they decided instead to do it in the second-biggest gang city in the state, Fresno. They held a press screening, where about 10 or so of us (reviewers) watched the film, and then immediately after we went to a conference room at a local hotel where they had two big, round tables set up, and a really nice Mexican buffet. They divided us into two groups, one at each table, with empty seats between us. They then brought in Hackford, Baca, and a good chunk of the cast (I don't remember exactly who was there, but I know it included Damian Chapa (Miklo), a then-unknown Benjamin Bratt (Paco), and Enrique Castillo (Montana), because I specifically remember talking to them sitting next to me at the table).
This was a group of people who really seemed to believe in the film they had made, and were proud of it. They also all seemed like really nice people, so it was a bit odd to be sitting next to them and chatting over some nice food immediately after seeing them portray such intense characters in the movie. Definitely a memorable experience.
The way they told it, they had shown the film to some people involved in the Chicano gang culture there in Fresno, and one young man broke down in tears, saying that what he saw onscreen was himself. The film remains important to many people.
I'm glad you watched this one, and took it seriously. At three hours plus, it's a long journey, but it's worth the trip.

Miklo sent Montana to get killed and he sent the fake message Miklo was the only one who knew Montana was there. Montana became to soft so the only way for la Onda could survive was for him to get taken out 😢
This is one of my favorite movies 🇲🇽🇺🇲, growing up i was always into the gang world i wanted to be a King until my uncle told me too change my ways before it's too late and Cruzito speech at the end woke me up
The guy in this who goes into play Tuco in Breaking Bad, is such an underrated actor
