Noora's ISFJ boyfriend is really in touch with his Ne. As an ENFP I wholeheartedly approve. I compare and contrast quirky examples all the time. It's as normal as heat and humidity in Houston, Texas 🤠

I just realized I also ended up demonstrating the tertiary Fe smiling discussed in the previous video :D Anyway, thanks Joyce for having me on! And thanks everyone for the kind comments :)
Also I messed up by saying we've been together for 12 years when in fact it's been almost 14 years already. Apparently I'm mentally still living in 2020.

    These were great examples.
It's always interesting to see people who don't make Ne leaps in judgment whatsoever, or find them really funny/odd.
A friend of mine (suspected ISTP) showed me a picture of a car he thought looked good. Long, black and with a sad "face."
"Reminds me of a funeral car," I said, "even has the perfect face for it."
He seemed almost insulted, whereas another friend (suspected INFJ) agreed with me.
(For the record, the car did look great though.)

This is adorable. I appreciate her interview.
The ISTJ I know mostly uses Ne ONLY in either sexual funny joke comparisons or jokey mean comparisons, just like her examples. I think it's because it's Ne 4th, compared to 1st.
For example, he said, "The stock market is like sex, you have to know when to go in and know when to pull out."
Lol. He rarely uses his Ne though, whereas I use mine MULTIPLE times a day.
Also, he rarely gets my Ne 1st type of analogies and take those too literally lol.

I'm an INTP who has always had strong Ne. For example: I always associated the number 9 with chocolate malts because my grandma would always make me chocolate malts by pressing a "9" on the blender and I also wrote short stories about a couple of anthropomorphic cats who would go on wacky road trips where they would get sprayed by skunks as a running gag. I'm also on the autism spectrum. Mistyping as ISTJ in high school psychology class really gave me an identity crisis as I've always been a quirky creative type. If only my teacher had given us a cognitive functions test instead or a letters one. I wonder who else in his class ended up mistyped.

That's interesting. Even though sensing is higher for him, it seems like since his extroverted perceiving is intuitive, he prefers to describe what something is like, rather than what it *is*. But with Si higher, his comparisons are very concrete and earthy.

Noora's example of the difference between Se and Si was great. Se (for me) helps me "identify" or "categorize". I'll use the sense of smell to explain. When I walk outside, I may notice the smell of wet rocks or concrete and know that it had rained. Or, I may smell the milk and notice that it has soured. With regard to colors, I don't see blue and think "blue", I see blue and distinguish it between other blues, such as teal, aqua, ultramarine, etc. If I see a red apple, I register it is a round-ish fruit, blue-red in color, and something that is edible. I make no connection to sensory stimulation with my experiences or nostalgia. Moreover, in the case of enjoyable sensory stimuli, for example the smell of wet rocks (which I love!), it's as if I am smelling and experiencing it for the first time. The other day, I walked out of my office and the sun was shining bright but there were tiny sparkling rain drops coming down and landing on my face. The warm sun rays, the delicate sparkling raindrops on my face, and the smell of the wet soil and rocks was nirvana to me, and I relished the experience for the unexpected titillating experience it was. Another example of this is: I have bird feeders set up in my backyard and I get a lot of red cardinals and other birds. Every time I see a colorful visitor on the feeder it is an exciting sensory "hit". I experience it as a surprise every time.

I would smell, see and experience all of that very similarly. I would also simultaneously relate it to other times I've experienced that (sometimes back to childhood). Then I would wonder (looking around me) if the rain was totally done/what kind of day lay ahead.
I've been typed as both enfp and isfj.

As an INFP with NE and SI, I dont have SE, I dont experience my 5 senses as bright and as acutely and intensely as you do, when I hear sounds they are more dull, my mind is paying far less attention to them than yours does; when I smell the air I cannot pick up all of the variety of scents that you do- and normally I barely even notice any scent in the air at all- instead my mind is focused on my thoughts and my imagination- I am missing out on the sensory world that you are in. Only if there is a strong scent of flowers in the air will I smell it. I do not believe this is because my actual 5 senses 'do not work as well as yours', rather, there is nothing that is wrong with my senses, it is just that I do not have the SE cognitive function switched on like you do.

As an Se user I can confirm the tidbit about energy drinks. I’m always drinking some form of caffeine to keep me energized. Some people can’t believe how much of it I consume in a day. It’s also funny that I’m currently drinking a bang energy drink as I type this 🤣

My ISFJ mom's Ne manifests as more of an anxious thing. I remember how she despised the concept of the multiverse in Marvel, because all of the plot possibilities were very overwhelming. I can see how having Ne in the fourth slot would make her conscious of these possibilities, but not completely confident in mentally managing them.

    • @audreytyn6965
      @audreytyn6965 2 роки тому +3

My isfj mom is exactly like same. Ne activates anxiety for her. I never thought of that before!

    • @dogdonut3

EVERYONE has an isfj mom. lol
I've been tested and found to be either an enfp or isfj (gotta love those differences!)
I like the idea of the multiverse and find the idea really intriguing to think about. I'm not into most usual "mom" things.
But, I don't think people fully understand the isfj type and tend to assume one of their parents are that type.
Maybe parents skew conservative most often to their children? Parents uphold certain rules usually, have routines and celebrate holidays, so people think isfj.
If you consider the functions of an isfj, they are quite interesting...not as stereotypical 50s mom as people think.

@@dogdonut3 Good points! People mistype others all the time due to stereotypes. To the extent of my own knowledge, Im fairly confident that ISFJ is her type, as I’ve been thinking about it for a year or two. She actually isn’t super big on tradition, and was reasonably flexible in parenting. She does love history though, especially interacting with physical things from the past, so that is pretty stereotypical lol. But so do I, and I’m intuitive, so I guess this goes to show how the functions are much more than the stereotypes

Plaid = lesbian is a pretty common stereotype, isn't it? I would've made that comparison as well (at least in my head) :) Also, I probably have Ne....It's funny, because I've read somewhere that Ni is a comparison function as well.
You read SO many contrasting things about the functions on the interweb, so to hold space and merge all of these explanations to one functioning explanation is impossible. It's very frustrating.
