  • How to remove a rearview mirror mounting bracket from a Windshield.
    (ONE EASY STEP)
    Using a lighter to heat up the rearview mount. It will only take a minute to heat the rearview mount and it will slide off.
    ALWAYS HAVE A WET SHOP TOWEL ON HAND. You will need it for the rearview mount to drop into.

    Thanks for the tip Mr. Powell. I would like to add to these instructions how I went about removing my button.
    First I was concerned about heating the metal button up on a cold windshield so, I parked my car in the direct sun for about 30 mins, ambient temp was 78F at the time, then I heated up both the outside and the inside of the windshield with a hair dryer set on High around the button area. After preheating the glass for about 15 mins I got out my micro propane torch, set the flame on low and applied heat to the center on the button moving around and around for a bit. after 8 to 10 seconds I grabbed the button with a channel lock pair of pliers and gently twisted the button back and forth as it released from the glass. Worked great with no discoloration or damage to the windshield what so ever.. The rest of the glue residue comes off the glass just like Mr. Powell demonstrates. Easy P easy.
    Thanks again. This is what YT is all about, sharing information.

    Thank you!!! Hubby put ours on backwards and we couldn't figure out how to get the thing off. The mirror has just been hanging for days. This worked so fast

    Yeap, I put it on backwards! WTF. Thought I was going to bust the window trying to pry it off. Looked up a video on how to fix, found you, you are a phuqing Genius, thanks you.

    I've never commented on a video before. Thanks so much for posting this! I also stupidly placed one with the wrong side facing the window using the Permatex kit. My celebration of victory soon switched to frustration as I realized my error and thought all hope was lost. You really saved me (as I am trying to impress my husband by fixing something on my own). It worked perfectly.

    Thank you a million times. I wish I could like this video a million times man. My baby son tore off the mirror accidentally about a year ago. I must've glued it back on about three times but because it had some glass or residual glue on it, it stayed on for the last part of winter partially in summer and now partially in winter. I guess because of the hot and cold and I was using crazy glue and gorilla glue. Now the windshield shop says they would do it for free if I could get off the residual glue. I tried chiselling it and sanding it down. Didn't even budge. But less than 2 minutes heating....voila... I don't know why I didn't come to youtube before. Thanks so much again....btw, I just used a regular Bic lighter then a sharp knife to scrape.

    yeah I may have to do this. my 2000 tundra electronic rear view mirror quit working and it has a cam mount. The only replacement mirror I can find that is similar to my old one has the wedge mounts. I went to Walmart to get a temporary cheap replacement but they only have wedge type mounts too. SO...looks like I will have to get a lighter and a razor blade as well. .....AAAAAND the cheap mirror didn't have an adhesive included either. dammit. But I'm glad I came across this video

    I don't have thing he used there, can I use a regular gas lighter?

    • @michaelpowell2291
      @michaelpowell2291  3 роки тому +1

      I find that a BIC Lighter is slow and heats up the glass. If you use a Jet Lighter, it will heat up the bracket fast allowing you to remove before heating the glass. Jet Lighter: amzn.to/3mG5G0O

      I did use a jet lighter. I find it will heat the mirror bracket quickly and not the glass.
      You can find them on Amazon: amzn.to/2OJDfAi
