@@riccccccardo Google? It's just crazy to me that all these people in the comment section is calling the f10 he's driving a "dud" because he doesn't think the f10 is quick as he thought it would be. Just got rid of mine.. on a dry warm day these are absolute missiles! Did 2000 miles over a week in the very north Scottish highlands and it was fantastic, hides its weight remarkably well and the brakes are good. They all make nearer to 600hp than the quoted 560hp. But again these cars don’t feel that fast on anything but dry warm days with good tyres, in the UK where it is often damp and cold you find yourself having to really feather the throttle. Put your foot down at 50mph + though and the car takes off. I miss mine but not as much as I miss my e92 M3.
@@boydiedj3718 You will, I think this car he reviews is a lemon or is on terrible tyres. These things are rapid but like I said, in the right conditions. In the wet they are a handful, and will not put their power down until you are up to motorway speeds. They are phenomenal value for money, but I would pay more than 20k and get an un abused low mileage, facelift AUC from BMW.
@@boydiedj3718 Jay's video is in line with most reviews of this car. This is definitely the M to skip. I've driven this car on a test drive and walked away not at all understanding what BMW was trying to do.... such a boring car. The M4 of this era is much more fun and its only sin is the lame (wet fart) exhaust note.
@Car Content - why do you miss the E92 M3 more? I ask this having lusted after an E92 M3 since they came out, but when they did I was 21 and so no chance. I’d be interested to hear what it was you specifically miss about it. Sadly I’ve driven neither! Thanks in advance.
Couldn't agree any less. After driving an F10 I couldn't believe it had performance like a coupe. It was incredibly impressive for it's size, and you can have a lot of fun getting it sideways when no one's looking. This review is quite inaccurate especially considering what everyone elses says about it.
As others have said (and I realise you can only report as you find), but I reckon that’s got an issue. Boost leak perhaps. These things are absolute missiles.
There's got to be something wrong with that one... mine was lairy... lighting up at 60+ if the road wasn't perfect.. it lived on the traction control. Not quite as much fun as the E39 M5, feeling a bit too grown-up, but still hugely impressive & able to raise a smile.
Seems like he’s bottling it and short-shifting changing up at ~4,000 rpm. Mine is manic and breaks traction at 70mph if prodded in sport plus. Never heard any car journalist share these views on the F10 M5
James how on earth do you manage daily uploads? Can you do a whole video on that because I’d love to hear it I just hear you waffle on about all the details of daily uploads in the car you tuber life
I think even if you drove a stage 1 example with down pipes you’d have a very different opinion. They do sound wonderful when opened up and serious gains even from an off the shelf tune.
Agreed, these are very quick. I've been lucky enough to lap the Ring in one of these, seriously impressive. I think this review falls short in many areas - of course, a car won't feel ferocious if you're short-shifting ...
Initially I was shocked at the review of feeling slow, but as the vid continued it all came back to me. You see I have an e34 m5(last year production) and went for a drive in the f10 in 2014. My conclusion was a seriously fast car with little occasion likely to cause the loss of license or life if one is not wary. 70mph is done with no fuss. Getting back in my e34 m5 made me realise I would never go for the f10. A decision I stand with 17years going with my beast.
I dunno, I drove an F13 M6 and felt the same. Not that it wasn't fast- the speedo goes round just fine, it just didn't feel fast. Bit of turbo lag, TC and a very insulated car meant the acceleration never felt particularly dramatic. My impression of that car was exactly what James said in this video. Not a bad car, but considering a significant number of people seem to love them I found it very underwhelming. Numbers are good, it's just not particularly fun. The interior is also meh and the ergonomics are surprisingly poor, but that's just BMW in the 2010s.
@@ApothecaryTerry if you thought the f13 felt staid, the new M8 was even worse. It drove like a big power 440i nothing M about it except for the speed. Zero feedback compared to f13 and doesn't have the dual clutch even either
@@papa_pt Interesting, if not entirely surprising I guess. In a way I don't mind cars like that and lack of a DCT doesn't bother me (although I love my PDK), but if a car has a full fat M badge that's when I feel like it should be a little more special, else why not just buy an M550i. A reliable E60 would be pretty much perfect in that regard, if such a thing existed...actually a GSF is pretty much that, that'll do nicely.
I think he wants something a bit newer and within a budget, something he doesn't think he can get an Alpina to fit which I think he mentioned in a previous 'my next daily' video or somewhere.
Yes, the B5 is almost a bargain for the interior and performance you get. And you have optional AWD and touring available. Sure the M5 is probably more fun to drive, but I'd personally buy a real sports car for smiles per gallon.
My 2012 M5 didn't feel any quicker than my E39 530i, a specialist diagnosed a faulty oxygen sensor that greatly reduced the power. Now properly sorted with 625 BHP mild map.
James that M5 is poorly, they are rocket ships I've driven both E60 and F10 M5's and apart from the sound, the F10 is leaps ahead. Its a sick car mate.
I own a 2015 LCI M5 (F10) and I don't quite understand the comments about performance - this thing is an absolute rocketship and will easily keep pace with far more exotic machinery on UK roads. It isn't a scalpel, it is a 5 series after all but it is precise enough and more than enough car to be genuinely exciting. For points of reference, I have owned an E92 M3 Competition and an LCI M2 in the recent past. The F10 M5 would leave both for dead in basically any situation on the roads other than something immensely tight and twisty (single track switchbacks maybe) - or if it was raining really hard. If you want an F10 M5 to compare, get in touch :)
Be interesting to see if the one in the vid really is broken. I drove an F13 M6 which definitely wasn't broken (tested from a dealer) and had the same view as James in the video. The speedo goes round just fine, but it doesn't feel fast- exactly like my old GS450h. That car was a touch quicker than my 981CS down a slip road but without actually racing/timing them you'd assume the porker is twice as fast. Thankfully I was in the GS for that race and now know not to embarrass myself trying to race one in the 981 ☺
@@markwright3161 yes he mentioned it as a downside , but i believe he will drive some cars for content for this series and then pick one ,not necesairly discarting anyone right now, the LS460 still a pretty smooth v8 with a standard auto

@@Chazaxl Munich Legends reckon that in their experience, 10% of F10 M5s have high oil consumption - probably due to the first owner not following the running-in guidelines. 1 litre per 500 miles is rare but not unknown.
Sounds like a similar feeling I got from my 2016 M135i, sold it after three years on Sunday and not missed it one iota. Was looking at M4's, considered these and may do in the future but the current solution is a 2015 Fiesta ST that is getting a load of modifications, but even as standard it is so much more fun than the BMW's. There is fast, which these undoubtedly are, and there is feeling fast which the Fiesta seems to carry off much better than the M135i, a lot of it is auto boxes, they have their place but I just miss a manual, combine it with rubbish suspension and lifeless steering you end up with a comfy thing that does acceleration quite well and is practical. If the answer is "Remap it" on a 560 BHP car, probably asking the wrong question of the wrong car. Sometimes stuff works on paper but is boring, then something just grabs you that you didnt expect to.
I bought my M135i more or less sight unseen. Had a few of the first gen 1 series before, and really liked them. Finally BMW added some firepower wirh the N55, I thought. I love hatchback, so this would be my dreamcar. Fast, fun, practical. Testers all agreed it was great, certainly on paper it was. I bought a fully loaded one, since I like toys. Active suspension worked well enough, and the engine wss quite strong. I planned to bring it up to about 600hp, which seems to be where the n55 tops out. BUT... nothing could have prepared me for the steering. Unacceptable. I have driven playstation games with more feel. After just 4 weeks, I had decided it had got to go. I got one of the last old gen 335s that rolled off the assembly line instead, the last BMW made with hydraulic steering as far as I know. Couldnt be happier, I will never sell it.
@@GoldenCroc Yeah, I had plans for mine, I got as far as a tuning box and then thought, well its plenty fast enough but that isnt the problem. Stuck with it but was itching to get something else, could have 500 odd bhp but that wasnt my problem with it, even with just a tuning box it was fast enough. Can see why you prefer the hydraulic steering on your 335. Glad to be out of the horsepower/numbers game.

So far it doesnt dissapoint, even if it will never have the power of a single turbo n54, I think the 450‐500hp potential of a street tuned M57 is just about what is usable on a track in my skinny-tired RWD E92. If it makes you feel better, I got serious plans to make it the worlds fastest street legal diesel. I have done a gps verified 177mph with only a tune and new downpipe so far. Cheers.
something is wrong here, I've driven a M5 F10, it is my dream car actually, but can't get one yet, try something next time you get your hands on a M5 F10, when you are flooring it , if you put a little extra pressure, there is a kind of button system on the acceleration pedal, press that and it gives FULL power
You need an E39 M5. What you save in expense you can use for any preventative maintenance (VANOS, valve cover gaskets, rear main seal, etc) and it will last a lifetime and only go up in value.
This car is obviously wankered, the F10 M5 is a beast, I've driven two, for extended drives and after stepping out of my 911 Turbo 997... The M5 was rapid Bentley like I felt
Try a competition package. They worked on the disconnected feeling. Love my M5 although defintley not as much as a drivers car as my 700hp manual M4. Its a fun cruiser which can embarrass alot of high end sport cars in the canyons as well.
A sensor has gone down restricting it or something. Mine flashes the traction light if you boot it at 70.Mine is properly chipped to 650 BHP. Very refind for long trips but I do miss my E39 M5 for response and instant go.
My thoughts exactly! I just took one for a test drive today tuned to 755bhp (Dyno printout to back it up) and like James said, I just didnt enjoy it. Yes it was ballisticly quick when it eventually gained traction, but lacked engagement, and a total 1 trick pony. Got back into my 981 Boxster S (which by comparison felt so slow I thought it had gone into limp mode 😅) and after recalibrating my internal speedometer, I spent the drive home grinning like a Cheshire cat.
I agree with everyone here, you definitely feel the power when you stamp the throttle! They are rocket ship fast! Something is off with the car you’re driving. Probably why it’s 20k.
Have no love personally for the F10 generation but i am reasoning along the lines of that's a dud James, S63 are everything but quickish, most were 600 break + from the factory. You sure the car was mechanically sound?
I think a D4 S8 would be a tremendous proposition. Very discreet package; but the stick it carries is monumental. That car is another one said to be close to 600bhp in reality
ok so firstly this is my car thats in the review. i can confirm that there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. its bone stock and running perfectly. its a very very quick car easily as fast my old e63 and even the s65 that i had previously. when i saw the first edit of this video i was surprised at how jayemm decided to describe the car. i instantly knew there would be lots of responces saying its broken or hes wrong etc. however in his defence he had probably 20-25 mins in the car on a cold wet day. also in Jay's defence i agree with much of what he said. its not a very engaging drive. the car is so well insulated and cossiting that you really dont get the sense of speed even when your going very very fast. it dosnt have the same sparkle and finish to the experience that the old V10 cars gave but it would most certainly walk all over one in a drag race.
Thanks for sharing! The F10 seems like it’d be a perfect daily since it’s so comfortable. I feel like most people don’t realize how quick these cars are above 200kmh. The e63 m6 actually wasn’t too far behind the f13 in autotopnl’s test. Wish we coulda got the v10 with a DCT…
Dont see how cold or wet conditions would make you think the car is slow, since he confirmed there were no traction issues. I asssume he knows how to push a pedal correctly. Nah, something is afoot here. Mount a first class hotel suite inside a launching moon rocket, and one should still be able to make a reasonable guess about the acceleration, no matter how comfortable one sits. Sorry to say it, but either it doesnt run right, or Mr jay lacks the ability assess car performance reasonably objectively. .
When I had a go of one (abeit a short go) I definitely found it engaging with a fantastic steering feel, however it was a newer MY than yours, maybe they changed something, I don't know.
@@GoldenCroc it really depends what you compare it to. i was surprised by jays comments on the pace of the car. as i said its definitely not slow. it will happily smoke the wheels in 3rd and your doing silly speeds very very quickly.
I was going to purchase one of these recently, but in the end went for the W212 E63, the 5.5 twin turbo one, its worth it for that engine alone! Even when not 'on it' it sounds fahtastic at low revs, so can always be enjoyed.
Jay - buy a 640d gran coupe m sport - get it remapped 400bhp , plus more torque than most super cars , it looks gorgeous, total missile and good mpg and fantastic interior you won’t regret it
Informative review as always James & love your presentation style. Also watch two M5 'review' vids prior to this from two amateur American who basically told me nothing I didn't know and just crapped on (mainly about themselves). Have you considered an Audi S6, circa 2015 model? They're great to drive (IMO), plenty of power (faster than the Quattroporte), nice design & you can feel/hear the 4.0L TT v8. And they're nowhere near as expensive as the RS6/RS7.
@@JayEmmOnCarsI have C7 S6 Avant in Estoril blue for nearly 2 years now with sports diff and good amount of options, the amount of grip the car has and the way it takes corners in Swiss Alps is mental (P-ZERO's, so not even Michelins), and then load it up and cruise 200 km/h on autobahn with kids laughing and playing in the back in relative silence, I really don't know what I would replace this car with, only get something else but keep this car too. Absolutely recommend you checking one out.
Traction control will cut the power significantly on a damp day or if it’s running bad tyres. They are stupidly quick cars. Should feel quicker than an rs6/gtr etc when you hook up. It’s either broken, or traction control is sapping 50% of the power constantly. Try soft suspension settings (so the car can squat) and check tyres and tyre pressures. There’s no way anyone can say a 600bhp car doesn’t feel rapid. MDM still saps a LOT of power. Try it completely off next time if you dare lol
Every f10 M5 I’ve driven was an absolute weapon. Bonkers tyre shreddingly rapid with a warm remap, 800bhp possible with stock turbos. There has to be some ponies missing from this example.
Odd.. When I went in one it seemed rapid and it was dangerous too with the TSC disabled. I don't think you're letting it go up the rev range enough unless the video just doesnt show it. The car might be fucked too. Might be worth getting it on a dyno to see whats going on with it because these things are very quick cars and should certaintly feel it even at 2 ton. You cant hide 560bhp.
@@JayEmmOnCars Yeah a little too refined perhaps. It's a strange car really. Because you buy a 5 series for the comfort and size as it's a bit more practical you don't look to a 5 series for performance. It's supposed to be refined etc. I guess the m5 should have been a bit more aggressive than what it is.
Something doesnt add up on the power. Last f10 i drove was a pure metal edition and that thing was hardcore. 70-130mph was quite fast and in line with a tuned 997 turbo i had driven. Lots of settings in idrive for these, wonder if it was in pussycat mode?? Traction limited accel up to 80mph is what i remember
There is nothing in iDrive to limit power. The only option you need to have for full acceleration is at least "Sport" for the throttle and you would want the gearbox in S3, but even in D1 a working car would still accelerate twice as hard as the one in this video
James, nice review. My neighbour has purchased one, in kind of imola blue. He's had it perhaps 6 months, and now wants rid. Doesn't like it. For me, I've always loved the 5, but as the M5 has progressed, BMW have lost focus I think. It doesn't LOOK like an M5. For me, the E39 is the last great M5....I'd have one of those with no complaints...Manual box, V8, and great looks...
I’ve just sold my F10 M5 and can only say what a brilliant all round car! (If thirsty.) Bit surprised by this review- dunno whether this car wasn’t setup properly, but those I’ve driven are plenty quick enough. Most two ton cars aren’t great on B roads, but with the M2 sport plus settings, the setup is firm and responsive and is easily enough for what most keen drivers would need.
BMW extended warranty is key. If you buy one from a dealer you can practically extend the warranty forever if you are willing to pay. I certainly think its worth it. zero excess and even covers wear and tear
You sure you weren’t in an upbadged 5 series? The 30 mpg coasting and 20ish while on it is way too good. My 440i only averages 24 mpg and I only do highway lol. I hear M5 owners get like 10-12 mpg usually lol
Each to their own this review is probably the total opposite to reality of driving the F10 M5 having one the drive in every mode condition is better than expected. At speed nothing better its instant and keeps going. e63 is in my opionion no where near better in any department. All about opinions but this guys reviews are pretty off the mark.
That car must be faulty. I bought one new and they were ballistic, 0-100 in 8 ish seconds in 2013 was quick then and is still quick today. They do hide their speed well as they are so refined, just watch how quickly the speedo rises!
All other concerns aside, are we sure it is healthy and gives full power, if it feels surprisingly slow? It could easily be missing quite a lot of power through different factors. One of my cars is missing about 100-120 horsepower, yet, since it doesnt throw a code, there is nothing wrong with it, according to an authorised dealer. Something to keep in mind when reviewing used cars. A simple 100-200kph or 60-130mph timed test will easily show if all power is availible, though I understand there could be some difficulties doing said tests on British roads.
The problem is that UK roads and weather are not ideal for high powered rear wheel cars. On a wet morning a diesel Fiat Stilo managed to get off the line quicker than my '14 BMW 535d, and I realised that I had a pretty useless car. If I was you I'd look at Audi S6/S8.
These do look like a bargain, even as an AUC. I was pretty meh about them when they were released, but as the prices dived they look a lot more appealing! Trouble is as your alluded to in the video that they do seem to end up in the wrong hands; there was an owner near our old house who fell into that category. Don’t agree that you can ignore the 1M; they’re amazing little things. A ‘proper’ M engine counts for little these days; the S55 in the M2 Comp for example sounds nowhere as good as the N55 in the OG M2.
I’m not a huge fan of this car but this is kind of shocking. It comes across as “it’s not fast” but I THINK the real message was I don’t FEEL the fast. Still…the owner should consider getting it checked out because these are missiles. Hop on the highway and cruise at 50 then floor it and report back
When I tested an F13 M6 I found it fast but not exciting...at all. I feel like these cars are highly rated by people who haven't driven anything more interesting. Not that it's bad, it's just overrated and not exciting. I drove home after the test drive in my GS450h and realised that car was not only comfier and more efficient but more engaging to drive with a far superior chassis, which is just wrong from a Lexus hybrid vs an M car. On the plus side, I'd been 50/50 on buying a 981 Cayman S - the M6 put perspective on just how good that (and the GS) were, so I got home from driving the M6 and bought the porker ☺
It’s Tanzanite blue Jay, I have a 2018 M6 and agree the cars a little cold, but slow it ain’t, these things are typically making in excess of 600bhp, I guess the coldness comes for the refinement
Had the E60 M5 which was another eyewateringly fast car but didn't seem it as the scenery disappeared. Put me off getting the F10 M5 plus lost 10k in a year on depreciation! What you want is a D4 S8! Have one now and it ticks every box!
Could the charge cooler tank be dry, thus limiting power? I’m looking to get one in a couple of months…pretty disappointed with the review if this is how they are…
James, Genesis is hitting the UK this summer. You like the Stinger so look at a G70. A more luxurious but faster and sharper car. And they're doing a shooting brake for all your gear. The Genesis brand is no joke. These cars are seriously good. Nothing like the one they brought over a few years ago. They have designers and engineers from Lamborghini and BMW's M division. You want a different badge? Then check them out.
Your feelings on the F10 M5 are about the same as mine. As a car to get from A to B they are amazing but they miss the fizz factor. The E60 is a much better experience IMHO, it might be flawed but at least it excites.
Agreed on the F10. I suspect the E60 too- I've not tried one but my neighbour recently bought one so once covid calms down I'm going to have to see if I can swap him for a ride in my porker ☺
That's because you have to to wring the neck of the E60 M5 V10 to make any decent progress. Below 3500rpm they are very flat. I used to have the M6 V10 and around town at pedestrian speeds it was pretty lame and jerky.
@@Sum_Ting_Wong The jerkiness is bad but wringing it out is part of the fun of an NA engine. Not that I dislike torque, my issue with engines like the S63 in the F10/F13 is that it isn't exciting at the top end either. One big factor in buying my 981CS was that there's a lovely gargle as soon as you're past 2000 RPM and then it howls all the way to 7800 RPM. Plenty of torque since it's light too. Rare to get a nice NA engine with that sort of character in a big saloon sadly, I can't think of a recent example that isn't a Lexus V8. Edit: Also have to mention, nice name ☺
I can never understand people saying the E60 was more exciting. Sure there is no doubt that the V10 sounds better, but the F10 pulls far far harder, than the E60, to the point that the E60 feel incredibly slow after you test drive an F10
@@arcadeuk Speed does not equal excitement. I test drove an F13 M6 last year and ended up buying a 981 Cayman S instead. While the 981 is quicker round a track, in a straight line the BMW smashes it. In terms of excitement though, I can't describe just how utterly the 981 destroys the F10 gen M cars. Sounds far better, gets loads of positive attention, cornering is like comparing an F1 car to a bus, etc. The F10 is fast but it is not fun. That's not a criticism, it's what it's designed for- it's a fast saloon, not a sports car. The E60 was much more dramatic with the sound, the jerky gearbox and slightly less subtle looks. Also the breakdowns...the F10 isn't exactly reliable but the E60 is hilarious ☺
The issue with the M5 is its not an estate. Also... That seems like a car which needs some engine work if that feels slugish. Can get stupid figures out of those without turbo upgrade. 720 BHP by DMS. Perhaps a 2016 Merc E63 Touring maybe more up your street
I think I understand this review. Many heavy modern cars are fast. The speedo shows you. However they hide the speed well through their weight, refinement and insulation.
similar thing happened to my ‘13 m5 with reduced thrust. turns out my turbos were shot. they were replaced under warranty, but it would have cost me $20K+ to replace sans warranty.
My stage 2 m5 is ridiculously quick running 755 You couldnt floor it in those wet roads as it would be sideways. Definitely something wrong with that. Probably been ragged to death
Something is not quite right here, anyone who's driven one of these knows that they're proper rapid and generally produce more power than the quoted figures.

I’m going to get one next . Haven’t driven one so far but I just know I will have a different experience to Jays vid. Tell me I’m right? 🤞🏻
@Car Content I'm between an F10 M5 and E92 M3 for a 2nd car and the last line of your comment has sealed the deal for me 😁
@Car Content - why do you miss the E92 M3 more? I ask this having lusted after an E92 M3 since they came out, but when they did I was 21 and so no chance. I’d be interested to hear what it was you specifically miss about it. Sadly I’ve driven neither! Thanks in advance.
Couldn't agree any less. After driving an F10 I couldn't believe it had performance like a coupe. It was incredibly impressive for it's size, and you can have a lot of fun getting it sideways when no one's looking. This review is quite inaccurate especially considering what everyone elses says about it.
I would suggest that example doesn’t have a full stable?!
Agree, these are mentally fast and very much feels like it.
Seems like he’s bottling it and short-shifting changing up at ~4,000 rpm. Mine is manic and breaks traction at 70mph if prodded in sport plus. Never heard any car journalist share these views on the F10 M5
Turbo German cars in general, especially BMW, give you all the torque from the bottom.
Every other manufacturer gives you a more linear build up.
James how on earth do you manage daily uploads? Can you do a whole video on that because I’d love to hear it I just hear you waffle on about all the details of daily uploads in the car you tuber life
I will let the 1M not a proper M car comment go this time, but try not to do it again 😉

Agreed
1m is pure M imo. Purity!! 🤣
Have to say a 1M is probably the best and most pure ///M car fot the last 10 years.

Wouldn't get too excited mate, he drives it like a wanker.
Future classic maybe?
You're driving a Wrong-un They're bloody rapid !! Ha !
Seconded, F10s were notorious for not being able to put their power down, especially on wet roads
I was just going to write that, hell, even my old e39 m5 breaks traction at 45 mph in the wet.
I suspect it's not developing the power Jay..
Agree 100%
@@ApothecaryTerry This.
Interesting and a bit different… Alpina.
That's a damn good point, and if you want reasonable fuel economy their diesel models are insanely fast!
Alpina will be much more "classic" in the future than M5.
Thankfully I was in the GS for that race and now know not to embarrass myself trying to race one in the 981 ☺
The 4lt bottle of oil in the boot.
Should be a standard feature in a BMW...
Or just put a proper ester based 5w40 oil.
@@cutdepiefails6596 That would be pretty dumb seen as the car requires 0w30 / 5w30 synthetic 🤷♂️

5L bottle of oil in the boot is probably a telltale sign that somethings a miss
They do use oil. My E60 did as well, its not unusual for an M to use oil.
no man. Any respectable BMW owner knows to keep some oil in the back just in case. Also coolant and rubber hosing 😂
@@Chazaxl Munich Legends reckon that in their experience, 10% of F10 M5s have high oil consumption - probably due to the first owner not following the running-in guidelines. 1 litre per 500 miles is rare but not unknown.
@@boojum Not surprised. One of the reasons why the 1200 mile service is mandatory, otherwise just pass and look at the next car.
Partly down to me buying an auto, good though it was it just wasn't what I like, am no purist or driving god but I like a manual change (can see the place for autos, traffic, lots of miles etc) . Stuck with it but was itching to get something else, could have 500 odd bhp but that wasnt my problem with it, even with just a tuning box it was fast enough. Can see why you prefer the hydraulic steering on your 335. Glad to be out of the horsepower/numbers game.
@@GoldenCroc totally agree with the statement on the 335i, it is such a fuckin car, proper bmw as far as im concerned, its a bit worky sometime? but otherwise idk if id ever sell it,

Classic German cars
What about an XFR-S?
You need an E39 M5. What you save in expense you can use for any preventative maintenance (VANOS, valve cover gaskets, rear main seal, etc) and it will last a lifetime and only go up in value.
Regret selling mine, and nearly as quick.Sounded much better.
These cars are one of those “oh hey I forgot about those!” Cars. Solid review Jay
How? It’s basically the same as every m5 since
Could say the same about the W212 AMG of this era. It's all about the new W213 E63S
@@Fee.1 that's why everybody forgot about it, it's not distinctive
Jay have you considered a birds bmw tunned E90 335i. They are very nice to drive. Good balance and steering feel.

They did. And it broke.
I was going to purchase one of these recently, but in the end went for the W212 E63, the 5.5 twin turbo one, its worth it for that engine alone! Even when not 'on it' it sounds fahtastic at low revs, so can always be enjoyed.
In the United States, you could also get the F10 M5 with a manual gearbox.
But honestly, it doesn’t suit a car in this segment.
sounds like it was misfiring as you pulled away right at the beginning ?
Just to reinforce the previous comments, mine is an absolute rocket, ita stupendously fast. Must have been something wrong with that one!
How about a vauxhall insignia 2.8 vxr? I've no idea what they are like but I don't imagine they are too common.
Don’t think that one was making full power or traction control was definitely cutting power, F10 M5’s are rapid.
Interesting review though. 👌🏾
Jay - buy a 640d gran coupe m sport - get it remapped 400bhp , plus more torque than most super cars , it looks gorgeous, total missile and good mpg and fantastic interior you won’t regret it
I would guess he doesn't want a 6 because I believe he owned a 635d in the past.
You do a lot of mileage, so imo you'd be better off getting a 435d m sport for your daily.
If one appears I shall give it a go!
Maybe this one needs a walnut blasting? Carbon buildup maybe limiting its performance?
Could well be.
There has to be some ponies missing from this example.
brotha i noticed it didnt even down shift when you were in 3rd. I have an m5 cp and its an absolute animal. it spins its wheels in 1,2 and 3rd.
That's what I figured but trust me I revved it out. I think it's just too refined, never felt that scary
Probably down on power, I've heard this are usually a handful to drive
James, nice review. My neighbour has purchased one, in kind of imola blue. He's had it perhaps 6 months, and now wants rid. Doesn't like it. For me, I've always loved the 5, but as the M5 has progressed, BMW have lost focus I think. It doesn't LOOK like an M5. For me, the E39 is the last great M5....I'd have one of those with no complaints...Manual box, V8, and great looks...
Hence why two e39 M5 sold for £32k and £34K at auction in the UK the past month or so. Prices are certainly increasing.
XFR/ XJ supersports or grand cherokee!! I ll say those till it stops raining over there
I think J Clarkson described it as 500bhp "bank vault".
If you couldn’t afford an M5 when new, you certainly cant afford to maintain it second hand
@@TheM5Dog I’m not wrong though 😅
If the car doesn't excite you but want one as a daily consider a 535d plenty of overtaking torque with decent mpg
Something must be wrong with the power output...
Why don't you try a B7 RS4 avant? You said the B7 RS4 was always a bridesmaid when buying cars.
I have a f10 competition pack 65 plate which is stupidly fast the one you drove must have a problem ?
That car must be faulty. I bought one new and they were ballistic, 0-100 in 8 ish seconds in 2013 was quick then and is still quick today. They do hide their speed well as they are so refined, just watch how quickly the speedo rises!
True.
Probably faulty, as they usually are.
Great video. Thanks! Also considered one of these, but it sounds like it won't tick the boxes I have.
This guy should know by now that the car clearly had an issue with power as you can feel it in these. He should know how 560 feels.
Methinks a revisit is needed, either using another example or following this car having been properly checked over.
I love mine, theres nothing that would tempt out of it, unless the new model...... I don't know what way you were driving it....
Hop on the highway and cruise at 50 then floor it and report back
This was my impression too, both of the video and driving one (F13 M6 in my case). Goes fast, just doesn't feel it.
Have you tried a W212 E550 as a daily?
How about the e61 M5 touring. It ticks all your boxes (apart from fuel consumption, not wanting a V10 and the gearbox being jerky.)
Also hard to daily drive a car that only works 1 in every 10 days ☺ V10 is always the answer though...mmm.
If your not actually bothered by not having four wheel drive or actually care about size of the engine or chassis, Jaguar XFR?
It has a check engine light so id assume thats why the car isnt "pulling hard"
Had the E60 M5 which was another eyewateringly fast car but didn't seem it as the scenery disappeared. Put me off getting the F10 M5 plus lost 10k in a year on depreciation! What you want is a D4 S8! Have one now and it ticks every box!
My BMW technician told me: dont buy ANY turbo V8 bmw. They show uo in his shop too often
JayM. Interesting my best mate had the same response after testing an MY21 ? Maybe it's needing another +100Bhp ! V.
Could the charge cooler tank be dry, thus limiting power? I’m looking to get one in a couple of months…pretty disappointed with the review if this is how they are…
And? Did you get one?
James, Genesis is hitting the UK this summer. You like the Stinger so look at a G70. A more luxurious but faster and sharper car. And they're doing a shooting brake for all your gear. The Genesis brand is no joke. These cars are seriously good. Nothing like the one they brought over a few years ago. They have designers and engineers from Lamborghini and BMW's M division. You want a different badge? Then check them out.
I wonder if it was a little poorly. I've never heard of an M5 to be underwhelming
Try a 435d xdrive grancoupe. I have just bought one and very happy with it.
Talking about smg….don’t you think even smg ii is better than the egear in the Gallardo?
I thought that maybe the wet conditions were affecting the drive, but you appear to have checked all options.
do another review of the stage 2 m5 f10 please,
tbh, i kinda feel what you are feeling, its rapid but it doesnt feel fast (stock)
As are people have stated there must be something up with this car as the F10 M5 is a 🚀. The gearbox is a masterpiece in them F10 M5s 👍
similar thing happened to my ‘13 m5 with reduced thrust. turns out my turbos were shot.
they were replaced under warranty, but it would have cost me $20K+ to replace sans warranty.
27.9 mpg. Best I seen on mine is 23mpg on a motorway. I normally get 16mpg
Sounds like that one was broken, 3rd gear it should be scrabbling for traction.
Left-field choice: Mercedes E500. Will appreciate and engage.
My stage 2 m5 is ridiculously quick running 755
You couldnt floor it in those wet roads as it would be sideways.
Definitely something wrong with that.
Probably been ragged to death
Are you sure it is a M5? Does not seem it from the review
